staga: Keep disgracing Nigeria everywhere. You think the standards in Nigeria are the same abroad where you cut corners and cheat at every turn to have your way. Serves you right. You will learn a hard lesson about this. Yes, yes... I actually learnt a very hard lesson... Thank you for your kind words |

richie240: Don't even go there biko! He's d one seeking ur hand in marriage, he shd be d one doing d fighting. If he's so 'tied' to his parents dt he can't take a stand 4 u, then no deal.
When it comes to tribal issues, by now if u don't know 'they' don't carry last, then u need deliverance.
See what Lola (Peter okoye's wife) has been facing (and still facing) as we speak: the family don't like her for no just reason (even if u and I know its because she's not Igbo), his elder brother (Jude) even refused to attend d wedding. Even his twin brother, Paul, is no better, never shy to insult her on social media.
Use ur head over ur heart, at least in ds case! Hmmm, thank you I have given myself brain and counted my losses |

iamJ: what's the minimum wage for Americans its 7 dollars
And some pay less
There is even legislation that supports it but states dont pay
Meanwhile an American is paying above minimum wage for poorly skilled labour
If you were Indian maybe, Nigerian, its someone that doesn't know tech you will feed this fable Uncle shutup, again shutup! so as an IT professional I should be paid the minimum wage? I hope this your poverty and myopic mindset will not lead you to destruction. If you use Linkedin, login and check for $15/hr jobs, you'll be surprised. So my Nigerian colleague that is collecting $30/hr must be a magician. Gosh!!! |

mayor10: Too many broke inclined people on nairaland..There are companies paying millions to remote workers. IT is the real deal..I'm glad I studied engineering anyways.
Yeh, it was during my nysc days, I was so sure of being retained at my company but was surprised when the boss told me they would have loved to retain me but the workload has reduced and thus my services will no longer be needed after nysc.I wasn't really sondevastated but I was pained. But like God does his magic , I got a job willing to pay x3 of what I was to earn in less than 1 week.
There is always light at the end of the tunnel Awwwn, congrats. Everyday, I thank God I studied computer science |

oluwaseyi000: Why we were fired? I joined this company last year March, they have the highest number of software developers I'm Africa and I was loving life, the salary is great with breakfast and lunch
They keep on employing so many software engineer with time the engineer become more than the available job, I saw it coming but I don't know what the board was thinking
2. How did the firing process happen? We have a global (online) meeting which people are asked not to miss, I was not even listening very well to what they are saying, the president said there are more developer than engagement to they have to let some people go, a mail was sent to all impacted people and I discovered what has just happened
Almost 400 people has been fired across Africa
3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better?
The company is actually a great one, they brought in pychologist to speak with us, bring in different recruiter, and other stuff, most importantly the payoff was reasonable that I can afford a Mac laptop of almost half-a-million
Luckily for me I got another reasonable job in less than 3 weeks of been retrenched Awwn, thank God you got something good. And thanks for answering the questions. |

kunki90: Lol, Mine is kinda funny. Then I used to work as a remote digital marketer for an app. My job was to Increase app downloads on playstore and app store. The issue was that my boss, did not want to spend much yet he expected gigantic results- high number of downloads for so little dollar promotions. Eventually, I could not meet the monthly targets as I was working with a meagre budget. Months into the job, I saw the same job position I was in advertised as vacant on the company facebook page. I wan die that morning
It wasn't funny then o, but now we thank God sha Lmaooooo, brutal |

lebete3000: When I tell people the average Nigerian's mindset has already been bastardized, people say I'm too negative.
Here's someone saying "apparently I wasn't supposed to ask for assistance" in a test, as if she didn't even know that before. In our days, the kain fear wey you go fear b4 you even answer person wey ask you question, let alone the person asking it.
Well it's all good for peeps like us sha, it would make working with civilized people easier for us, as we still got that old culture and tradition of being afraid to cheat, so will rather fail honorably.
For the kids of this generation however, all I can say is Thank you for your kind words |

philip0906: Wow!
One of the things I've learnt over time while working, is to be one step ahead.
I once worked in a company wherw my line manager was a compete nut head. I saw the handwriting on the wall that I needed to leave. I fired up my cv ASAP and got an offer (way better offer than I was paid) and dropped my resignation letter. My line manager was shocked...I knew he would have fired me, or atleast recommended my sack, if I didn't take that drastic step of been 1 step ahead. Soon after I left, 2 other devs, were fired.
Everywhere I have worked in my short career, I've always tried to read moves, anticipate actions and moves, position myself in a way, no one will take me by surprise. Yea, it's always better if you resign yourself. I honestly didn't see that coming |

Roadtoyesterday: We started the work as a field agent sometime last year, I was still in my final year in school when I joined. 4 months into the job I was made the supervisor, when I became, I notice the agents were been short changed, in terms of benefits, I tried working on the irregularities but it bounced back to me, gbam I was fired for lodging a complaint on the delayed salaries of the workers.
A. Month after, my depth profile became so high, I was the one supporting my family and sponsoring my junior ones. I hate myself for trying to be holier than thou while at work. Till this moment, I've not gained myself. I've lost everything. Wow! This is sad! I am sorry you're going through this phase. Please keep a positive mindset. |

Share your experience with us if you have ever been fired. It would be better if we can share: 1. Why we were fired? 2. How did the firing process happen? 3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better? So, I’ll start: Sometimes last year, I got an unbelievable offer (well above #750k) at a remote company. I bought a PC, subscribed for large data and set-up a workspace. On Monday which was resumption day, I turned on my PC, logged in and started the online meeting… everything went well for the first day and I got introduced to my colleagues. My friend and I actually got employed for same position, so we usually chatted while working. To be onboarded, we had to install a productivity monitoring tool on our PCs, we were told everything we did on the PC would be captured if the tool was turned ON but I really don’t know why I cared less. On Wednesday same week, we had a short and simple test, during the test, I asked my friend for an answer as I wasn’t so sure, he responded and that was it. On Thursday, I had a quick one-on-one call with my manager, I was fired. Apparently, I wasn’t supposed to ask for assistance while taking the test. I apologized but the answer was a straight NO (you sabi how oyinbo people strict). So in other words, I was sacked because I cheated ☹. Well, they paid me for the few days I worked I have experienced other sad situations, but this has to be the worst. I was so depressed, the following Sunday, I went to Church and it was while Pastor asked us to greet our neighbor, I remembered I didn’t brush… LMAO. Now, I got something with abit lesser pay but still very chilled
