It has been said that a buyer needs a hundred eyes but a seller none. It is a fact that the albatross of online trade is the way it makes buyers susceptible to fraud. There is always a breach of trust between buyers and sellers as there is no physical contact when transactions are being made. If at all there is something I have learnt, it is “ never trust a business organization irrespective of their reputation”. This lesson I have learnt in a hard and bitter way and I am sharing it with Nairalanders so they won’t fall victim to these scammers. There is a saying "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me''. I have already fallen prey to this demonic fraudsters but I don't want any other person to be victimized. This is my story………………………. I wanted to buy a new year present for my mum before I travel back to my place of work in the oil-rich Bayelsa state. Though I have bought products on Jumia without any problem, I decided to try other online commerce industry, after all variety is the spice of life.I love to be adventurous. A friend advised me to try Kaymu. I wanted to buy a 32 inch LED TV and a washing machine for my mum, I searched through Kaymu's website for the products, the search returned products that were relatively cheap . These products had two things in common, a seller named Baba Dayo. My instinct immediately told me the seller is a fraudster, instinct is our first line of defense ,they say. But I told myself, I must stop being paranoid, after all Kaymu is a reputable company and for them to put sellers name on their website, they must have full details about them, address inclusive. I ordered for the products and paid 68000 naira online. I got a mail that the shipping for the products has begun and I was sent the contact details of the Seller Baba Dayo, two days later I got a mail that one of the product has failed. I called Kaymu and was told that the product is no longer available and that I should contact the seller for details. Kaymu sent the seller’s phone number 07066113818 and an email address to me. I called the seller, it was a lady I spoke to, she called herself Stephanie and claimed to be customer care agent of Baba Dayo. She told me they have the product in stock but they pulled the product out of Kaymu’s website because they are on promo. And as a result, won’t be able to pay kaymu’s commission after the reduction in the price of the product. Meanwhile, Kaymu sent me another message that the second product also from Baba Dayo is being shipped and will get to me in three working days. Immediately I saw this message, all thoughts of Baba Dayo being a fraudster disappeared, because I had the feeling that Kaymu has dealt directly with them. When I didn’t get my product in two days, I ordered for the cancellation and decided to deal directly with Baba Dayo. My plan was to go to their shop, get the product and pay them in cash. When I told Stephanie about this, she told me they don’t receive cash that I have to pay to their account number. After a lot of haggling we agreed that I should pay half and on getting to their office I will pay the other half at the nearest ATM before going with my products. She convinced me by telling that they are registered with Kaymu, and have been transacting business with Kaymu for a long time. I was sent their address and was given an account number to pay to, the accunt details- Emmanuel Elyjah First Bank 3092720601 To cut the long story short, I paid 40,000 naira into the account, which was more than the agreed half payment. I was told to come and pick it up from their office ( Shop No. 42., Main Market, opposite Customs office). When I got to Badagry, I learnt the address was fake.I got the greatest shock of my life when I called Baba Dayo's number and discovered I have been blocked. I used my friend’s number, the number went through, she picked and later ended the call. It was then that it dawned on me that I have been duped . Immediately, I logged on to Kaymu’s website to try their livechat, I discovered all Baba Dayo's products have been removed. It was so quick. It was then I realized Kaymu”s complicity in this fraud. I believe I was duped by Kaymu’s agent using the name Baba Dayo as a guise. It was a smart one for them but they have forgotten that hundred days are for the thief, one for the owner. After that, I requested for the refund of the 68000 naira I paid to kaymu, they began to give series of excuses. After a week of constant calls, exhausting 2000 naira airtime, and threatening to bring military personnel to their office I got my 68000naira from kaymu. But the 40000 is gone with the winds |
They may be the best but don't you think there needs to be standard rating. I believe they are politically inclined and not for the masses. |
Channels TV now claims to be the Best TV station for the 10th time. Who gave them the award, what was the criteria for the award and when was the award date?. This questions baffle me. I hope someone gives me the answer. |

RAMADAN The crescent moon sparkles in the night. Twas more crystal-clear than bright the desert camel gallops through the sand dune, racing against the half-bred moon. knees and head on holy ground hearts are heaven-bound lips yield to holy creeds as men's hand untold their rosary beads from dawn to dusk I thirst my heart free from lusty-flirt my tongues deprived of wines and words of ungodly lines my garment is as white as snow drifting from the arcs of the mountains-low my heart pays homage to the creator of man as I slowly sail across the holy month of Ramadan |

Greetings of the Season to Y'all and best wishes for a Happy New Year. Merry Christmas in Advance |
NEVER, NEVER NEVER On October 29,1949, Winston Churchill rose to give a speech in Harrow school. He said the following: "Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never — in nothing, great or small, large or petty — never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. His words encapsulated his biography As a small boy,he talked like a stammerer. He wasn't considered good for anything in school but he became an orator When he joined politics,he wasn't considered good .He once rose to address the House of Commons and they all walked out on him because he was so boring. He did not give up. He often spoke to empty chairs and echoes were his companions. The result of his stubborn determination, he became the Prime Minister of Britain He wasn't considered fit for the army, he became a ruthless general My advice- Never Never give in even when there is no hope, hold on and fight for a little while. A great man once said " a champion never give up,he fights one more round" |
The power of Humility One day during the American Revolutionary War, a man dressed in civilian outfit rode up to a group of soldiers trying to raise a beam to a high position. The corporal who was overseeing the work kept shouting words of encouragement, but they couldn’t manage to do it. After watching their lack of success, the man asked the corporal why he didn’t join in and help. The corporal replied quickly, “Do you realize that I am the corporal?” The man very politely replied, “I beg your pardon, Mr. Corporal, I did.” He dismounted his horse and went to work with the soldiers until the beam was put into place. Wiping the perspiration from his face, he said, “If you should need help again, call on George Washington, your commander in chief, and I will come.” Culled from George Washington's Biography Lessons 1. Leadership involves the humility to actually serve alongside the people who signed up to serve us. It’s the gratitude to serve people who sacrifice day in and day out. And it’s the generosity of spirit to serve those who have nothing to offer to us. 2. Humility begats Greatness, no wonder MLK said " Greatness is not measured mansion downwards but manger upwards" . I was not surprised when George Washington became the First President of USA. His humility propelled him to greatness #Be Humble in all your doings# |

DEFYING ALL ODDS The First Noble Truth as posited by Sidhartta Gautama (Budhha) is that " Everything in life is suffering". Life though full of challenges is also full of overcoming the challenges .When faced with adversities, we tend to give up and sometimes ignore them. I read somewhere about an ostrich in a desert. It is said that when there is a storm in the desert, the ostrich buries his head in the sand, hoping that the storm will go away if he ignores it, and finally gets buried under a heap of sand and dies. We must learn to deal with difficulties as they come. Sometimes we exaggerate our problems and regard them as most complex. But if we look around us, we find people in much worse conditions. As St. Augustine said, "I cried for boots, till I saw a man who had no legs." Sometimes, we wait till things get better before we act. Some profess that they would like to take action, if only the conditions of life were not exactly what they actually are. This shouldn't be the case, we must strive to achieve our goals no matter the circumstances surrounding us Below are examples of men who defied all odds to make history 1. Lous Braille(1809-1852) :Was blind and invented the braille system of printing with raised dots to enable blind people to read 2.. Lord Horatio Nelson-(1758-1805) was a British Admiral. He lost an arm and an eye in battle but won many naval victories, including the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 3 Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945) was crippled by Polio and spent much of his life in a wheelchair but was elected US president four times 4. Stevie Wonder ( 1950-) US singer, has been blind from birth but is one of the world's most popular entertainer (22 times Grammy winner) 5.Joseph Pulitzer (1847-1945) -US publisher and founder of the prestigious Pulitzer prize was blind from age of 40 6 Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1829)- was one of the world's greatest composers. He continued to compose music even after he totally became deaf in 1817 7.Douglas Bader (1910-1982) The legless World War 2 British Royal Air force fighter Pilot). He became a British war hero and flying ace despite losing both his legs in a plane crash. 8. Helen Keller (1880-1968)- was a famed author and lecturer despite being blind and deaf 9. Jack Hawking (1910-1973) : was a British film actor who lost his voice after suffering from cancer of the larynx.
