Another question is, can you afford a quality goal keeper right now? With the current financial/FFP struggles of the club, it'll be wise to focus on positions that we're most deficient, one after the other.
We've gotten a manager now, the next sensible thing to do is getting a quality defensive midfield player and then Left winger before we start checking our pockets if money go still dey to get and incorporate better goalie (which is highly improbable).
When the club acquires a DM and LW for next season, you'll see that MATs isn't even a problem.

A good manager, quality DM and a world class left winger is what we need the most, but folks here make it seem like he's the elephant in the room.

True. But there's no really any decent CDMs available in the market aside zubi who's not willing to leave la Real.. Even the kimmich we've been linked to isn't exactly a single pivot. Merino's is a better tackler and workhorse than he is, would be cheaper and is a year younger. So if we pull through with the deal, it would be a good one.

Flick uses a double pivot formation so merino will be perfect as the more defensive player of the pair.

And another reason why I think it's a great deal is because merino is 28 this year so it's kind of a quality stop gap deal to give our upcoming lamasia DM prospects time to develop (I believe one of prim, bernal or casado can own the DM position in the future )

Mikel Merino strongly linked to Barca. Omo if we can pull it off, our midfield don set. I've always felt merino is underrated and zubimendi overrated. He'll be perfect as the defensive midfielder in the double pivot that flick wants to play.

When Pedri joined people said he should be sent on loan and that Puig should start. Koeman said no, today Pedri is a star. Puig showed more promise then.

Although Balde was more promising, he was not even first choice LB for the B team, he was supposed to join Ajax on loan, today he's one of our best players. Alex Valle was first choice then if you follow the B-Team.

Fermin was playing in the 3rd division nobody knew him. Nobody expected him to be this good yet he's one of our best today.

Most players adapt to their level as they move up the ladder. For Julian, we'll have to wait and see. I won't mind him as a backup for Kounde while Hector although right footed could back up Balde. Cancelo must go 🙏 😂

Stergen is the common denominator in all our biggest defeats in league, cups, friendlies, UCL etc. He was the one in goal when Bayern scored 8. In that game, he gave up completely at the 4th goal.

When he leaves we'll do well again especially in the UCL provided we sign a standard GK not Onana-Degea kind of mistake!

Xavi will do very well with this current Chelsea team. Our team is dysfunctional and disjointed in personnel and profile. Reason we were getting inconsistent performances from them. One day, they'll play well. Another day, it was a disaster.

I don't think Chelsea's team is structurally wrong like ours. Lots of young, talented players. But lacking cohesion, which is what a coach like Xavi, can bring.

busquets isn't exactly strong or big, and he was very poor aerially even with his height. So I don't see any issues with zubimendi on that. I think he'll blend in seamlessly.

Nico for £50m is a good buy in today's market, but the problem is, he's not exactly an elite/world class prospect, which is what we need. I've seen several of his games with Bilbao and the spain national team, he's just Rapid and okayish.. not good enough.
Getting Simons on loan to play him as an inverting winger and waiting next year for an ideal world class winger would've been perfect but PSG being PSG will make it difficult for us even if Simons wants to come here.

zubimendi would be a steal.
Aside Rodri, Rice and tchouameni who are all unattainable, there's no better DM in the world than zubi right now. He's not exactly an excellent option but what I'm saying is that the DM pool is so small right now, so he's already one of the best.
