Students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile -Ife, are currently crying for help, as their halls of residence have been taken over by bed bugs. The students who spoke through their Students Union, claimed that the university management has failed to live up to expectations and have left students at the mercy of blood sucking bed bugs in their halls. In an open letter signed by the Union President, Oyekan Ibukun Edward and obtained by CityMirrorNews, the students threatened to showdown if the issue is not taken care of by the school management. Read below an excerpt from the open letter. “It is no longer news how the management of various varsities across the nation maltreat students by harbouring and accommodating them on filthy and “Kirikiri-like” prisons called halls of residence/hostels.” The students further alleged that the university management has refused to fumigate hostels even after resumption of freshmen. “To avoid the envisaged embarrassing situation, we wrote to the management through her Division of Students’ Affairs to ensure that the Halls of Residence are fumigated before resumption, that is, Sunday 30th April, 2017 to avoid the barbaric “Military coup” of bedbugs we have even been facing severely before the last session ended (2015/2016 session) and to ensure that our fresh students are not affected with this dangerous bedbugs as the need for them to live happily in their halls can never be flinched and flung. “Bedbugs should be extincted from our halls of residence. We say no to their parades in our rooms, they are not our roommates.” The students also raised an alarm that bushes have began to overtake their hostels thereby leaving them open to scorpions, snakes and other dangerous animals. As if the recession, hike in fuel price and all that money can buy, lack of Job opportunities, underemployment, lack of basic amenities and infrastructure are not dealing enough with Nigerians. Our ‘people-oriented government’ seem to be thinking of other ways to make things more difficult for the common man who voted them into power. According to reports, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), on the orders of the Federal Government has issued a directive to telecommunication companies to increase their mobile data tariffs with effect from December 1, 2016. What this means is that MTN, Airtel, Etisalat and Globacom will increase their data rates as from the aforementioned date. A data plan of N1,000 for 1.5 Gigabytes will be increased to N3,000. Meaning subscribers would pay N1,000 per 500 Megabytes. Unconfirmed sources claim that the Federal Government took the decision having discovered that data rates are very low-priced in Nigeria, compared to other countries. Others think the government might have taken the decision because Nigerian subscribers have been kicking against the proposed nine per cent Communication Tax bill which is currently in the National Assembly. Whatever their reasons might be, the government should be thinking of selfless measures that will make life better and easier for her people, instead of focusing on how to enrich itself at the expense the masses in a period of recession. If our rich is country is now broke, must the common man be the one paying for it? The truth is, the common man didn’t get this country broke. Also, propaganda aside, we all know that we are not all in this together! It would be highly appreciated if the government is more considerate and selfless when making policies. The government should be for the people, not for itself. Souce: http://paulolarewaju..com.ng/2016/11/government-for-people-or-government-for.html

WhatsApp is finally letting its users add formatting to their texts. WhatsApp users can now use bold, italics and strikethrough in their text messages—and it might just change the way we chat to our friends. The news comes as WhatsApp also introduced the ability to embed a previous text in your reply, like a Quote-Tweet on Twitter, and forward content to other conversations . The new updates can be done by: • Bold: Add an asterisk (*) before and after the specific words or phrases you want to embolden e.g. *hello* • Italics: Add an underscore (_) before and after your chosen words or phrases e.g. _hello_ • Strikethrough: Add a tilde (~) before and after the words or phrases you want to strike a line through e.g. ~hello~ Chosen words or phrases will embolden, italicise or strikethrough after it has been sent as long as you have the latest version of WhatsApp running on your Smartphone. These codes can also be used online via the WhatsApp Web Client, but the formatting will only appear in the app-based version of the chats. SOURCE: Paul Olarewaju's Blog |

In a controversial interview with Pulse TV, daughter of former Oyo state governor, Kemi Olunloyo claimed that Bianca Ojukwu was engaged to marry Femi Fani-Kayode, and she had an abortion for the politician. The widow of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu has however slammed that report, adding that Olunloyo needs urgent psychiatric evaluation. Here’s Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s official response to Olunloyo’s claim: “PRESS STATEMENT FROM HER EXCELLENCY, AMBASSADOR BIANCA ODUMEGWU-OJUKWU The attention of Her Excellency has been drawn to an interview granted by a media character Ms Kemi Olunloyo, a deportee from Canada, and a fugitive from justice in the United States of America, whose sole existence centres around online character assassination. Her victims have ranged from Bishops, General Overseers,Presidents, Ministers, Hardworking Musicians and real

media Personalities down to her own family members including her mother, father, stepmother and siblings. It is rather unfortunate that it has become the practice for anyone seeking publicity to add Her Excellency’s name to their stories, fantasies or delusions, and none more so than this mentally unstable internet troll whose insane need for attention is well known to Nigerians. This unhealthy obsession with Her Excellency for some time now, a situation most public figures can identify with, has been glaringly evident in her posts, and is indicative of a more serious underlying condition. It is quite clear that her delusions and fantasies have become her reality, and her lack of gainful employment and hours spent online focusing on other people’s lives have exacerbated her already strained sanity or lack thereof. It is obvious that Ms Olunloyo needs urgent psychiatric attention Her Excellency extends her sincere sympathies to Ms. Olunloyo’s family, and urges those who are able, to ensure that this mentally challenged individual receives the crucial psychiatric help she is so desperately in need of in order to contain her excesses. The music star made his heart desires known through an open letter, he wrote: If you love and want a good Nigeria please don’t just read and like but also share until it gets to him. We can make Nigeria great Again God bless Nigeria! LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT AND THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE ARM FORCES OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA GEN. MUHAMMADU BUHARI Dear Mr President, My Name is DUNCAN MIGHTY a successful musician who has always exported the good massages, RYTHME and vibes of Nigerian IKWERRE PORT HARCOURT content to the global world. I am also a successful entrepreneur /businessman with remarkable achievements in Niger Delta Today I am the current youth/ Brand ambassador for FORUM OF COALITION OF SOUTH-SOUTH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE INDUSTRY MINES AND AGRICULTURE. And also the Niger Delta Entertainment Youth President. My office existence is to channel the minds of the youth in Niger Delta and South- South in Diaspora to embrace there Gods given talents for a greater Nigeria! Your Excellency Mr President, Please I want you to give me the opportunity to assist your Government in carrying out youth empowerment project in Niger Delta as to enable some of our eligible youths shun social vices, cultism and face there Gods given talent for a greeter Nigeria of Tomorrow. Mr President you spoke so much about youth empowerment but I think one of the best ways to achieve that is through sports, and talent capacity building then we have a long way to go. These are not good times for Nigerian sports at all. With the Super Eagles failing to qualify for the 2017 African Cup of Nations and the lack of stability in the team – constant change of coach and captain as well as the not too impressive performance of different sporting teams representing the country at different global events in recent times, it is obvious that the year 2016 has not started well for Nigerian sports at all. The situation has been compounded by the refusal or inability of the National Sports Commission to make funds available to the country’s sporting contingents to different competitions in recent times. This may well be a sign of austere times. It is no longer news that the Federal Government has been finding it difficult to navigate through the country’s economic woes which have been fueled by the free fall in the global price of oil and worsening exchange rate. What may be news is that the effect of these challenges on sports is huge. Recently, the Nigerian Table Tennis team had to sponsor itself to a major tournament in Malaysia because the Nigerian Tables Tennis Federation and the NSC said there was no money to sponsor the team. While Segun Toriola, Haruna Quadri and others paid from their pickets, Funke Oshonaike angrily withdrew from the tournament. There is no better evidence to prove that the country has been on auto pilot for some months now. This sort of challenge reminds one of our recent past where sports was given maximum attention by a serious government which was committed to youth empowerment and national integration. The London Olympics of 2012 was this disgraceful outing for Team Nigeria. After a few days of the event, the then Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi had to fly to to London where he gave touching speech at the camp of the athletes. The athletes were inspired by his moving speech and they promised to up their game. Unfortunately, the entire Team Nigeria still came home without a single medal. That was a major scandal the country could not stomach at all. Angered by this outcome, the Federal Government summoned a major conference of all sports stakeholders from across the country and beyond. Government wanted to hear from everyone who mattered. Hundreds of stakeholders gathered at the State House Banquet Hall (now Conference Centre) to dialogue with the President. Unlike other leaders who will just attend the opening ceremony of such event, make a fantastic speech and leave, The Federal Government dedicated a whole day to the summit and dialogued with the stakeholders for over 7 hours. Asked questions, sought clarifications and demonstrated to everyone present on that day the willingness and political will to implement all the decisions and recommendations put forward. The Federal government was told to take all sporting issues personal and grant administrators and coaches direct access to the Presidency. The Federal Government was told to release funds to beef up infrastructure for training and ensure early preparation for all sporting tournaments as well as provision of world class training camps and facilities. Most importantly, the Government was told to re-introduce the reward system and ensure athletes are rewarded, celebrated and recognized for any achievements recorded in sports in order to encourage others and give them the motivation that Nigeria is worth dying for. The discussants agreed that the Presidential handshake policy introduced by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2000 with the Super Falcons team which impressed at the World Cup in that year, had gone a long way to dampen the morale of athletes across all sports in the country. The Federal Government implemented all these recommendations religiously and within months, our athletes started bringing home trophies and medals from across Africa and beyond. Blessing Okagbare was among the athletes that made the country proud. She won silver and bronze medals World Athletic Championships in Moscow. She won silver medal in the long jump and came third in the women’s 200 metres race. The Federal Government rewarded Blessing Okagbare and her coach with cash gifts and national honor. The Government also held a special dinner for both Falconets and U-17 male football sides which both conquered the continent in their respective categories. That same U-17 side also conquered the world in far away Dubai. Nigeria won the African Cup of Nations for the first time in 19 years in South Africa in February, 2013. Nigeria ended up with 11 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, finishing 8th in the overall ranking. Federal government did not fail to extend the same gesture to all the individuals and teams who made the country proud in different sporting competitions. Former England international, Ambassador John Fashanu did not mince words when he granted an interview to newsmen and praised extraordinary feat in sports. It is on record that the Super Eagles won Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa under this administration. The Super Eagles equaled the best record Nigeria ever had at the World Cup in Brazil. The Nations U-17 team won FIFA U-17 World Cup in UAE. The female U-20 team won silver in their own World Cup. Nigeria had the best performance at the Commonwealth Games and the World Athletics Championship. I cannot mention the whole achievements because they are many. All these happened because the Federal Government created an enabling atmosphere for sports men and women to strive because of the way he normally appreciates them when they return, I want to use this references to ask your office to empower me to carry out youth Empowerment projects in Sports, Music Comedy, Dance, Movies, photography And Fashion with this we have a proudly Nigerian youth of tomorrow. Thank you Mr President, Yours faithfully DUNCAN MIGHTY SOUTH-SOUTH YOUTH /BRAND AMBASSADOR AND NIGER DELTA ENTERTAINMENT YOUTH PRESIDENT. Popular OAP and Vlogger, Toke Makinwa was recently boldly accused by an Instagram user of having a child she is not proud enough to show to the world. As expected, her fans were curious to know when and who she had the child for, but all the drama queen did was to delete the post from her account and kept quiet about the allegations. During an interview with Saturday Beats , the 31-year-old addressed the claims and stated that it's laughable that anyone would take such a comment seriously. In her words: “I have been in this industry for over six years. My radio career started in 2010 and I am working with one of the most popular radio stations in Nigeria, I was on television and I have a Vlog. If I have a child, everyone would know. It is laughable and there is no iota of truth in that post”. SOURCE: http://paulolarewaju..com.ng/2016/04/toke-makiwa-finally-speaks-up-about-her.html?m=1

An alumnus of the University of Abuja, Kemmie Obaditan recently took to Facebook to accuse her former lecturer of victimising her. See a compilation of her Facebook posts below: On the 11th of December 2011 I was in my second year in the University of Abuja Gwagwalada Nigeria. I came into school that morning to write a Chemistry examination scheduled to hold that day at 9am. I got into the exam hall at about 8:00am just in case there was going to be a change in the venue and information regarding this examination. The exam started at the time stated and while I sat in the hall assigned by my department for her students, Mr. Samuel Olorunfemi Adams came in to speak with the invigilator on duty while the answer booklet was being shared. He requested that half of the students should follow him upstairs to the main library where his own students who, at that time, were going to write a statistics course so he can shuffle us between them. Unfortunately, I was among those who had to move up with them. When I got upstairs I had a chair and did not have a table in the exam hall, hence I decided to go get a table. By the time I returned with the table, Mr. Samuel Olorunfemi Adams refused my entry into the exam hall. I told him I was among the students he took from the hall downstairs to join his students. He was defiant and still refused for me to enter into the examination hall. I stood outside pleading that I get my answer booklet and examination card so I can go downstairs to go write my exams but he refused. My pleas fell on deaf ears until one of my colleague was able to help me pass my exam booklet and exam card to me. While I was begging him he lost his cool and pulled out his belt from his pants and began to flog me mercilessly. While he was flogging me my phone dropped (Blackberry Bold 2) worth #58.000. Mr. Samuel Olorunfemi Adams picked it up and said he was going to cease it after inflicting bodily injury on me. While I stood on the stairs crying, one of my lecturers saw me and he asked what happened. I told him all that had transpired between myself and Mr. Adams. He consoled me and took me to another hall to write my exams. The exams had passed an hour already. I was able to put myself together and I wrote my exams. After my exams, I went to Mr. Adams to get my phone and he said I would have to fill up an examination malpractice form if I was going to get the phone back. I told him I did not set my eyes on the question paper prior to the incident so I cannot fill any form. Mr. Adams told me to take a last look at my phone and he smashed it on the ground to pieces. My colleagues who witnessed the incident gasped and he made sure he gave all of them -10 marks on their script. I ran downstairs to get my brother, so I could tell him what had happened to me. He came up with me to talk to Mr. Adams, but he had already gone ahead to report me to the Dean that I held him on his collar and I told him that if he did not let me into the examination hall that I was going to fight him. By that time, I was summoned to the Dean’s office, Mr. Adams and his supporters (lecturers) were there and the Dean never gave me a fair hearing rather she insisted I state what Mr. Adams had done to me on an examination malpractice form. I stood my ground and refused to fill out the form as I know I did not commit any malpractice. I was threatened and asked for my matriculation number by his colleagues and I was told I would never graduate from that school. That very day, I went to the National Human Rights Commission and I gave a statement and showed evidences of the scars and the pieces of my phone. Pictures were taken and Mr. Adams was summoned in after two weeks for questioning. The following week my Dad was in town and he accompanied me to school to speak with the Dean but she was not around. A fellow lecturer was apologizing on Mr. Adams behalf and begged my Dad to temper justice with mercy. My Dad wrote the school up copying the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor and the Dean of Student Affairs that he would like them to look into my matter. I came into school on a Monday morning and I was told to report to the Deans office for an emergency meeting. In the meeting, there was the Dean, Head of department, Head of examinations and a few other lecturers. I was still not granted a fair hearing. Instead, I was told and I quote “We know you know people, and your Dad is well connected, but if you want to graduate in this school you cannot fight your lecturer and win. You have to drop this case. I walked out with tears in my eyes and my heart was heavy with much pain. I felt the school failed me, the women in the meeting failed me even with the obvious bruises I had on my body. Afterwards, I did agree to drop the case because I wanted to graduate. Little did I know that my misery had just begun? Every day in that school was a living hell. I was always harassed, humiliated and dehumanized by Mr. Adams and his fellow lecturers. I became the cynosure for insult every time I passed by them. From that moment my results became a mess. They failed me on all the exams I sat for that semester. Mr. Adams is a threat to other students in that school as he is known for extorting money illegally so he would pass them, having sexual relationships with ladies and meting out unjust punishment on young men in the department. Hence, my reason for wanting to open up this case again. Mr. Adams If all I have stated is wrong I would like you to come forward and speak out. Justice must prevail! You continue to fail students, if they get on your bad side. You told me nothing can be done to you and I challenge you to present your case and let’s see if you will truly walk away as a free man. “Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world……….. Would do this it would change the earth”. William Faulkner. In a recent chat with Punch, Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe who is a mother of two spoke about her acting career and her marriage. Read excerpts below: In the last few years, you have attained new heights in your career. Some of your fans are of the opinion that you no longer fit into the Yoruba genre. Some people write to me and request that I should feature in more English movies because they believe that only then will I gain more acceptance and recognition. My fans believe I’m not being appreciated in my sector. Will you eventually stop acting Yoruba movies? I can never stop acting Yoruba movies because that industry made me who I am today. As a matter of fact, a lot of people don’t know I am from Edo State. When I began featuring in Yoruba films, I wasn’t speaking the language flawlessly, so I had to learn on the job. My industry is very accommodating and that is why I would always be grateful to them for accepting me and giving me a platform to excel. I also produced a movie titled Osas in order to connect with my Benin roots. What roles can’t you take up even if the price is right? I can never act nude because it is against our culture and my beliefs. How Supportive is her husband? ”Whenever I am overwhelmed with my business, career and family, he is always there to encourage me. He always recommends that I keep pushing.” Is he comfortable with romantic scenes she takes part in? ”Yes, he is and I actually kiss in my movies. I was already an actress before I met my husband and he goes through my scripts. Sometimes, he chastises for not kissing well in a movie. I could be on set for a week or more and he does not make an issue out of it. I know I married my friend and he is very understanding.” How does she Keep her home? ”It hasn’t been easy and this is actually my second marriage. Before I got married to my present husband, I asked God to make this my second and last marriage because I want to stay married. Our marriage is under scrutiny all the time and a lot of people just want to find faults even when there are no faults. My previous marriage taught me to be more patient, tolerant and prayerful.” SOURCE: http://paulolarewaju..com.ng/2016/03/my-husband-scolds-me-for-not-kissing.html
