MOK Movement Disburses ₦450,000 to Empower Petty Traders In Offa The Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode (MOK) Movement has empowered fifteen petty traders across Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State with a cash grant of ₦30,000 each, amounting to a total disbursement of ₦450,000. The Founder of the MOK Foundation, Qs. Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode, has reaffirmed the foundation's unwavering commitment to serving humanity through a diverse array of interventions. These initiatives encompass critical areas including health, education, food security, shelter, and other essential facets of human life. In a recent statement issued to journalists, he expressed his assurance to the members and supporters of the foundation, emphasizing the organization’s open-door policy, welcoming all who seek assistance. Since its inception, the MOK Foundation has significantly invested billions of naira, aiming to transform lives and enhance the availability of necessary social amenities within numerous communities. "Our efforts have predominantly focused on sectors like education, nutrition, healthcare, and access to clean water, among others. While some of our contributions may not have made headlines, our primary concern remains the welfare of humanity," Kayode stated. As the election period approaches, Kayode stressed that this will not disrupt the ongoing efforts of the MOK Foundation. He assured that the organization will persist in its outreach to those in need, including the marginalized and underserved populations who genuinely require assistance. The foundation has a long-standing commitment to treating all individuals with equity, regardless of their tribal affiliations or political beliefs—a principle that has been a hallmark of its operations throughout the years. "I want to reassure our community that we will not relent in collaborating with the government to alleviate poverty. We remain steadfast in our dedication to the development of our communities, and we will continue to extend our support to those who need it most," Kayode concluded. |
Note from MOK Foundation Founder I reaffirm our commitment to serve humanity, nurture mentees, immortalize our legacies, and collaborate with government agencies to improve the lives of our people- MOK Before the establishment of the MOK Foundation, just a few months after the 2023 elections, I was driven to take action by two significant realizations. First, I observed that many Nigerians, particularly in my home region, were trapped in a cycle of poverty so severe that individuals were willing to engage in heated disputes over paltry sums of money—5,000 or 10,000 naira—offered as bribes during elections. This pervasive issue has plagued our society for decades, creating a toxic environment where desperation often outweighs reason. Secondly, I became acutely aware of the staggering impact of poverty on our communities. Many people were suffering, from those living with disabilities who faced systemic disadvantages, to patients in hospitals unable to afford even the most basic medical treatments. Families struggled to pay school fees for their primary and secondary school children, severely hindering their educational opportunities. The situation was dire, and it weighed heavily on my conscience. Having survived the grip of poverty myself through sheer hard work, perseverance, and dedication, I felt a profound duty to help improve the conditions of my fellow citizens. Beyond my immediate family and community, where I had already been making contributions, I envisioned establishing a platform that could assist those who had no direct connection to me, people who might not even share my language or background, but who desperately needed support. My focus was particularly on the underprivileged: people living with disabilities, the needy, widows, ill individuals, farmers struggling to sustain their livelihoods, students striving for an education, and many others. This vision culminated in the founding of the MOK Foundation in 2023. When I launched the foundation, I made a solemn promise that it would operate as an independent entity, driven solely by humanitarian goals. I reassured my team that the MOK Foundation would steer clear of political involvement, instead prioritizing the needs of the people. I committed to making the foundation a vehicle for alleviating poverty, shifting mindsets, and significantly impacting lives. Through collective effort and unwavering understanding, we have begun to realize our mission in a remarkably short time. As I expressed in my widely viewed interview on May 4, 2024, “the foundation will be sustained for more than four decades, regardless of my presence.” This statement serves as our guiding framework. Since we officially initiated operations, what began as a localized community intervention has swiftly evolved into a national initiative within just two years. People from Kwara Central, Kwara South, and Kwara North have reaped the benefits of our efforts, and we have positively touched countless lives, expanding our impact far beyond my original intentions. Our progress and achievements are meticulously documented in the MOK Foundation Chronicles 3. I consistently emphasize that our mission is rooted in humanity. Our primary goal is to bring smiles to the faces of underprivileged community members; everything else is secondary. Despite facing numerous rumors and political speculation from desperate competitors, no one has successfully argued that the foundation serves any political agenda. We operate without bias or preference, serving individuals across all political lines. The MOK Foundation is steadfastly committed to its mission, driven by collective efforts that exemplify our vision. I would like to reiterate my unwavering commitment to continue serving humanity, nurturing mentees, immortalizing our legacies, and collaborating with government agencies to enhance the lives of our people. I look forward to sharing more updates with you in the future. Thank you all for your support. Sincerely, Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode Founder of MOK Foundation October 20, 2025. |

Disrespecting Olofa’s Stool, Offa Clubs, Elder Statesmen For Political Gain, Offa Is Not Your Personal Property, Group Blasts ODU President Offa group has described the Global President of Offa Descendants Union, Alhaji Azeez Salako as a man who is trying to play god because of his political ambition, in a statement signed by the group coordinator, Amhed Afolabi Rildwan the group acknowledged the impact of major stakeholders during the retreat, the full statement reads: In the rich tapestry of Offa’s proud history, few institutions command as much reverence and unifying power as the Olofa’s stool — a sacred throne that symbolizes not only authority but also the collective spirit, dignity, and continuity of the Offa Kingdom. The Olofa, by historical hierarchy and cultural constitution, stands as the supreme head of the kingdom, custodian of Offa’s heritage, and ultimate rallying point for all sons and daughters of the land. The Olofa-in-Council, composed of esteemed chiefs and traditional advisers, forms the recognized leadership structure guiding the affairs of Offa. Within this sacred order, every other platform — whether social, developmental, or cultural — draws legitimacy only through alignment and respect for the throne. One such platform is the Offa Descendants’ Union (ODU) — a voluntary association of Offa indigenes established to complement the efforts of the Olofa-in-Council in advancing the development and unity of the kingdom. Historically, ODU has been led by eminent personalities — men of integrity, decorum, and devotion to the peace and progress of Offa. Among these were distinguished figures such as *Chief Emmanuel Olatunji Adesoye (OFR),* who used his tenure to promote harmony, attract development, and uphold the sanctity of the Olofa stool. None of these past leaders ever brought ODU into ridicule, political servitude, or disunity. Even the regime of Alh Najim Yasin whose background sugest batleready being Active leader of NURTW) never witness such a mess and controversy. Unfortunately, the current leadership under Alhaji Muideen Salako has brought more shame than fame to Offa land. For the first time in our proud history, ODU has been politicized, openly converted into a partisan wing of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Under Salako’s controversial tenure, ODU abandoned its traditional neutrality and moral voice, instead lending itself to the manipulation of local electoral processes and endorsement of illegitimate political outcomes. A case in point was the deliberate frustration of the widely publicized Channels Television Offa Local Government Chairmanship Debate — a noble civic engagement that sought to elevate public discourse. Because his preferred APC candidate lacked the quality, courage, and competence to face the people, the Salako-led ODU sabotaged the event. And when the Governor of Kwara State brazenly imposed candidates without elections, ODU — under Salako — was the first to issue a congratulatory message, shamelessly endorsing an undemocratic process. This same leadership has had repeated face-offs with respected Offa elders, including the Asiwaju of Offa, Alhaji Tajudeen Owoyemi, necessitating interventions by elder statesmen to avert public embarrassment. During his tenure, even the Ijakadi Festival, a unifying cultural event of global renown, was nearly derailed as many Offa elites withdrew their support until His Royal Majesty, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, intervened personally to restore order. The latest and most sacrilegious act came when Alhaji Salako publicly declared himself as “second in command” after the Olofa of Offa in the affairs of the kingdom — a statement not only false but a direct affront to the Olofa stool, olofa in council and the Offa traditional institution. We then ask what is the placement of Essa, Ojomu, Balogun, Shawo, Asalofa and other high chiefs in the council, Worse still, the ODU leadership went on to discredit the Olofa’s recent Offa Development Retreat — a groundbreaking Royal initiative that brought together eminent Offa sons and daughters such as Dr. Awal Ibrahim Brimoh, Chief Ayotunde Raji, Alh Tajudeen Owoyemi, Alhaji Jide Oyewumi, Chief Waheed Olagunju, and elected and appointed political leaders of Offa origin including Senator Oyelola Ashiru, the Deputy Majority Leader of the Nigerian Senate. To dismiss such a royal-driven initiative, distance ODU from it is not mere arrogance — it is a sacrilege. It is an unforgivable sin against Offa Kingdom. To disrespect the Olofa of Offa is to wound the very soul of the land. The Salako-led ODU has further exposed its moral bankruptcy by unlawfully removing its National Secretary, suppressing dissent, and defending every anti-people action of the government — including the demolition of Offa people’s shops without compensation and the reduction of the Ibrahim Taiwo Road width after promises of expansion. Adding insult to injury, this is the only ODU President in history *without any tangible investment in Offa, yet he consistently antagonizes genuine investors and philanthropists who have brought development and employment to the land.* The evidence is overwhelming. The sins are grievous. The offense against the throne and the people is monumental. For the peace, unity, and dignity of Offa Kingdom, Alhaji Muideen Salako must tender an unreserved public apology to His Royal Majesty, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, and voluntarily resign as President of ODU. Offa is greater than any individual or clique. The Olofa’s stool is not to be toyed with. To disrespect it is to court the wrath of history and the ancestors of Offa land. This is not just a call for accountability — it is a sacred demand for redemption. Long live the Olofa of Offa. Long live the Offa Kingdom. Signed Amhed Afolabi Rildwan, Coordinator Igbimon Omoluabi Offa |
Like National, Like Home Branch: Political Contractors Masquerading as ODU Leadership _Disrespecting Olofa’s Stool — A Great Sin Against Offa Kingdom: A Call for Apology and Voluntary Resignation of ODU Home Branch Chairman_ In the proud chronicles of Offa’s history, the Olofa’s stool stands as a sacred symbol of unity, authority, and continuity — a divine institution that embodies the collective spirit and dignity of the Offa Kingdom. The Olofa is not merely a king but the living custodian of Offa’s heritage, the rallying point for her people, and the moral compass of the land. By established tradition, the Olofa-in-Council, made up of revered high chiefs and advisers, serves as the sacred governing body guiding the affairs of the kingdom. All other organizations — social, cultural, or developmental — derive their legitimacy and purpose only in alignment with this sacred order. Among such bodies is the Offa Descendants’ Union (ODU), a voluntary union of Offa indigenes devoted to complementing the vision and efforts of the Olofa-in-Council in fostering peace, unity, and development across the kingdom. Over the years, ODU has produced distinguished leaders — men of character, humility, and patriotism — who upheld the sanctity of the throne and advanced Offa’s interest with honor. Sadly, today’s ODU leadership, both nationally and locally, has derailed from this noble path. The once proud union has been hijacked by political jobbers and self-serving contractors masquerading as community leaders. Instead of serving Offa’s collective interest, they now dance to the tune of partisan masters, turning a historically nonpartisan body into a political appendage of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Most disappointing among this emerging band is Mr. Lanre Shittu, the current Chairman of ODU Home Branch — a man whose conduct has become a stain on the honor of Offa land. It is disheartening that an educationist, a man expected to be guided by wisdom and values, could reduce himself to an errand boy for failed political actors, aligning with those who persistently undermine the authority of the Olofa-in-Council abd put offa in bad light, one will recall how Mr. Lanre shittu inglorious took up a political dirty Job of dragging opposition leader to court over unfortunate incident of Offa robbery with state Governor lawyer representing him on the matter. Under Mr. Shittu’s watch, the Home Branch has lost direction. Rather than serving as a rallying point for community service and constructive engagement, it has become a platform of division and political manipulation. He has deliberately allowed himself to be used to frustrate noble community efforts and to lend credibility to those bent on reducing the sacred Olofa’s stool to a subject of partisan mockery. As a chief Otun Akoni of Offa and a sitting member of the Olofa-in-Council, it is both shocking and shameful that Mr. Shittu still sits among the revered custodians of our tradition while simultaneously identifying with those who openly desecrate the throne. This contradiction is unbecoming of a chief and betrays every oath of loyalty to the Olofa and the spirit of Offa’s ancestors. We therefore call on Mr. Lanre Shittu to *voluntarily relinquish his chieftaincy title and resign honorably as ODU Home Branch Chairman, having failed in his moral and cultural duty to uphold the sanctity of the Olofa stool.* His complicity with the failed national leadership of ODU — led by those who have turned the once-revered union into a political wing of government — is evident in the series of shameful acts committed against Offa land. A most recent and painful example is the infamous communiqué issued by the ODU leadership distancing itself from the Royal Offa Development Retreat — a visionary initiative convened by His Royal Majesty, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II (Ajagungbade I Esuwoye II). The retreat brought together some of Offa’s finest sons and daughters, including Dr. Awal Ibrahim Brimoh, Chief Ayotunde Raji, Alh. Tajudeen Owoyemi, Alh. Jide Oyewumi, Chief Waheed Olagunju, and Senator Oyelola Ashiru — all united by the Olofa’s call to chart a new developmental path for the kingdom. For any ODU leader to discredit or distance the Union from such a noble, royal-led effort is not an act of independence but one of defiance, arrogance, and sacrilege. It is a grave insult to the Olofa stool, a direct affront to the Olofa-in-Council, and a betrayal of the very essence of Offa unity. The same ODU leadership, both national and home, has continuously aligned itself with anti-people policies — defending actions such as the demolition of traders’ shops without compensation and the scaling down of developmental commitments made to the people. They have become the mouthpiece of oppression rather than the voice of the people. To compound this shame, these individuals who attack Offa’s genuine patriots and royal initiatives have no personal investments or developmental contributions to the land they claim to serve. They neither create opportunities nor support those who do — yet they arrogantly parade themselves as community leaders. Offa cannot and will not continue to watch silently while a few misguided individuals desecrate her sacred institutions. The Olofa’s stool is not an instrument of politics. It is the very soul of the kingdom — the symbol of her unity and the foundation of her identity. For the peace and dignity of Offa, Mr. Lanre Shittu must *tender a public apology to His Royal Majesty, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, and to the people of Offa, and resign immediately from his position as ODU Home Branch Chairman.* Offa is greater than any individual, clique, or political party. Those who choose to insult the throne insult the entire kingdom. To continue on this path is to invite the wrath of history and the ancestors who guard Offa’s honor. This statement is not born out of bitterness but out of duty — a sacred duty to defend the sanctity of the Olofa stool and restore the dignity of our community. Long live the Olofa of Offa. Long live Offa Kingdom. |

Alhaji Tunde Salahudeen, a prominent member of the MOK Foundation team shared insights on the foundation's impactful initiatives in agriculture across Kwara State. He stated that over 100 communities across the three senatorial district have reaped the benefits of the MOK Foundation’s farm input distribution program. In an interview with our correspondent, Salahudeen emphasized that these initiatives aim to support the government’s efforts in enhancing the agricultural sector, which is vital for local economies. Towns such as Offa, Igbona, Oke Ode, Patigi, Lade, and Lafiagi, among many others, have received essential resources, including chemical fertilizers and farm sprayers, distributed directly to local farmers. This support not only empowers farmers with the tools they need to increase productivity but also fosters a spirit of collaboration within the agricultural community. Salahudeen further reassured the residents of various communities that those who have not yet benefited from the foundation's assistance can expect ongoing support. He echoed the thought of the founder of the MOK Foundation, Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode, who is dedicated to the principle of giving back to the communities in meaningful ways. In expressing gratitude, Salahudeen thanked the leaders of various communities for their immense support and cooperation thus far. He concluded with a promise that the MOK Foundation remains committed to its mission of providing essential aid to underserved communities in Kwara State, ensuring no community is left behind in the quest for agricultural advancement and sustainability. |
A Memo to Kwara Government 72-Hours Demolition Notice with No Details: A Clear Display of Disrespect for Citizens and Insensitivity to Their Survival By. Hon. Comr. Salahudeen A Lukman Eluku Omo Adugbo. We sincerely appreciate the Governor of Kwara State for remembering Offa Local Government in what appears to be a plan for road rehabilitation or expansion. Any effort to improve infrastructure in our community is welcomed. However, the current approach of issuing a blanket 72-hour demolition notice to property owners along Olofa Way—without details or proper communication—is a disturbing show of disregard for citizens’ rights, their survival, and their emotional well-being. Under normal procedure, when government intends to acquire land or execute a developmental project that affects existing structures, property owners are first communicated with formally. They are provided with adequate notice, clear explanations of the intended project, possible compensation details, and timelines. Anything short of this due process is not only unfair but also insensitive to the plight of the very people government is supposed to serve. Today’s economic reality in Kwara State demands a human-face approach to any development initiative. People are struggling to survive, and every shop, kiosk, or building often represents the entire livelihood of a family. Offa, being historically renowned for its commerce and enterprise, deserves a logical and carefully thought-out model of development that balances growth with protection of livelihoods. We cannot forget the bitter experience of traders and families along Taiwo Road in Offa, where shops were demolished in the name of “road expansion.” At the end, the road was not expanded as promised; in fact, it was reduced in width and still andandoned larger section till now while the shops—sources of survival for countless households—were destroyed and left in ruins. That singular act stands as a painful reminder of how government projects can sometimes turn into deliberate acts of wickedness against the people. It is in this context that we demand full details for the sudden marking of structures along Olofa Way for demolition within just 72 hours. Citizens have the right to know: What exactly is the purpose of this demolition? Is there a clearly defined rehabilitation project? Is the Federal Government involved, since Olofa Way is a federal road linking states? Without these answers, the notice remains hasty, inconsiderate, and unlawful in the court of public opinion. Kwara Government must learn to practice governance with a human face. The people who elected you deserve respect, transparency, and sensitivity in policy execution. Development should never come at the cost of survival. Forcing citizens into despair by stripping away their only means of livelihood is a dangerous path—it breeds anger, frustration, and the temptation of crime. A government that ignores this reality risks fueling insecurity and undermining the very peace it seeks to protect. The call is simple: Communicate clearly, respect the people, and carry them along in development plans. Offa deserves better, and Kwara deserves leaders who balance growth with humanity. |

Death is not just a debt we owe; it is an inexorable force that has taken many beloved individuals from our lives, including our parents, friends, uncles, and colleagues. One such loss painful death is that of Uncle Banji Olawoyin the Bobajiroro of Offa . His passing came as a devastating shock, leaving me grappling with the memories of our time together and the conversations we shared. For weeks, I have reflected on our relationship. Beyond the bond of brotherhood, we shared a connection built on trust, loyalty, and unconditional love. Uncle Banji was a remarkable man, embodying humility and kindness, especially toward the younger generation. Throughout our interactions, he never once looked down on me or treated me with anything less than respect. He was a true family man, always placing the Olawoyin family name in high regard and nurturing its legacy. I can still vividly recall our last conversation, which remains etched in my memory. After a brief period without communication, he reached out to me on July 10th, 2025. During that call, he shared that he was experiencing a brief illness. As brothers, we confided in each other, discussing our fears and exploring potential solutions. Little did I know that this conversation would mark a heartbreaking farewell. Less than 24 hours later, on Friday, July 11th, at exactly 1:40 PM, I received a text from a colleague informing me that Uncle Banji had passed away. In that moment, I felt as though the ground had been pulled from beneath me; I was left speechless and immobile. Yet, in the face of this tragedy, we must accept the will of God and find solace in our faith. Today marks the beginning of his burial arrangements, and I stand with the rest of the Olawoyin family from Offa in deep prayer for his soul. We pray for his peaceful return to Almighty God. Uncle Banji, may you continue to rest in the everlasting bloom of the Lord. Your legacy will forever live on in our hearts. |

Mr. Lawal explained that over the past year, the foundation has undertaken numerous initiatives aimed at improving the health and well-being of individuals beyond the partnered PHCs. He mentioned that there have been countless instances where the foundation covered medical bills for various individuals across different states, actions that, unfortunately, weren't documented. This outreach aligns with the vision of the foundation's esteemed founder, Alhaji Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode, who is driven by a mantra focused on putting smiles on people's faces. Mr. Lawal emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with government efforts, recognizing that the government cannot address all healthcare challenges alone. In April, the foundation supported 57 patients, with 12 bills paid at Lamodi Clinic, 14 at Olomowewe PHC, 11 at Igboro PHC, 5 at Igbona PHC, and another 5 at Abogunugun PHC. The foundation remains steadfast in its mission to provide essential health support to those in need, reinforcing its role as a partner in community development and welfare. |
Establish Temporary Military Base in strategic locations across Kwara South - KSYC As concerned youths of Kwara South who have been unwavering advocates for the safety, development, and progress of our communities, we are deeply troubled by the alarming rise in insecurity in the region. The recent surge in violent incidents, particularly in Kwara South, has led to horrific acts such as the brutal killings of innocent civilians, rampant kidnappings, and the forced displacement of villagers from their ancestral homes. This crisis primarily affects the most vulnerable segments of our population, including women, children, and the elderly. Disturbing reports indicate that in several instances, armed bandits have brazenly spent hours terrorizing communities, carrying out their heinous acts without any timely intervention from law enforcement or other security agencies. If left unaddressed, this escalating situation poses catastrophic consequences for the livelihood and safety of our people across the various local government areas, including Ekiti, Ifelodun, Isin, Oke Ero, Oyun, Offa, and Irepodun in Kwara South. The human cost of this insecurity is staggering; thousands have been displaced, and local kings have repeatedly cried out for assistance to no avail. A particularly distressing event occurred in Ganmun Aliheri within the Ifelodun local government area, where residents were forced to abandon their homes due to the imminent threat to their lives. Many of these villagers have become refugees in nearby towns, facing severe hardships without access to food or shelter. This once-thriving town now hauntingly resembles a "ghost town." Farmers in Kwara South have also been severely affected, with many abandoning their fields out of fear of potential kidnappings or violence from bandits. Despite this dire predicament, the situation continues to deteriorate alarmingly. In just this year alone, over 20 communities have been attacked, and countless individuals have been kidnapped. Families are frequently coerced into paying exorbitant ransoms, often amounting to millions of Naira, for the release of their loved ones. Tragically, in many instances, those taken are lost forever. Throughout this turmoil, the Kwara State Governor and his administration have displayed a concerning lack of empathy. At the same time, security agencies appear to be either ineffective or unwilling to take decisive action. Only a few days ago, Oba Isiaka Sadiku Lawal, the Onisagbe of Shagbe, shared a poignant voice note that quickly went viral. In it, he detailed how bandits have systematically invaded various towns within his district, including Ologomon, Eweagon, Alabe-Idera, Owode, and Alasoro. Many residents have been kidnapped, homes have been engulfed in flames, and widespread destruction has ensued—adding to the strains of inflation and widespread suffering occurring across the nation. As concerned youths, we have conducted visits to numerous communities such as Oreke, Babanla, Share, Oke Ode, Babanlomo, Osi, Ayedun, Igbonla, and Omu Aran. Tragically, the narrative remains consistent: bandits operate with impunity, unchallenged by any effective response. This is an incredibly distressing time for us in Kwara South. In light of these dire circumstances, we call for the urgent establishment of a temporary military base in key strategic locations throughout Kwara South before it is too late. Local security arrangements implemented by various communities are being overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the threat. We have reached a consensus that our political leaders have fundamentally failed us during this critical juncture. Therefore, we strongly urge our traditional rulers to rise to the occasion and voice their concerns when necessary. The security threat facing our region is quickly spiraling into a grave crisis that demands immediate and effective action. |

When ₦500 School Fees Becomes a Luxury Do you know there are some parents who cannot afford to pay ₦500–₦700 as school fees for their children in public schools? This may seem absurd, but it comes from my personal experience with the Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode (MOK) Foundation. In mid-May 2025, I was part of the MOK Foundation team led by its Executive Director, Mr Saheed Lawal Temi Tope Sa'eed that paid school fees for 130 students during courtesy visits to 24 schools in two sessions in Offa LG (11 schools on the first day and 13 on the second. A total of 130 students had their school fees for the term paid during visits. 105 the first day and 25 pupils had theirs paid during the second) The Foundation also distributed writing materials to pupils from Primary 1 to 3 in all these schools. In Offa LG, I followed the team to report the distribution to these schools. What I found there was appalling, not appealing. I came to understand that there were some parents who could not afford as little as ₦500 as school fees. I did not know how to react to that because I could see some pupils who were not wearing good clothes or sandals. I also came to understand that there were parents who said they could not afford ₦500 to ₦700 (depending on the school) per term for their child. When we reached a religious school, one of the teachers told us that some pupils skipped school for days—or even a whole week. There was a particular case of one who skipped school for three days. When the mother brought him to school on the fourth day, she explained that from Monday to Tuesday, they had not eaten anything at home. It was on Wednesday that God provided them food, so they returned with their child the next day. I did not know how to react to that, but my eyes were misty. If a parent cannot feed his or her child for one or two days, I cannot imagine a whole household going without food for a day—let alone two. Yes, my four siblings and I were raised by my mom, but there was never a day she did not provide at least two meals daily. We never ran out of food in our house. Mother always found a way. The teachers also told us that there were students whose school fees they paid themselves because they saw them as exceptional pupils. If they let such pupils go, the class would have very few students left. They would then wait for any politician or foundation, like ours, to come around. In almost all the schools we visited, we discovered they kept a register for students without uniforms and for those who had not paid their school fees. They would present it to you, call the pupils out, and you would look at them and say, “Oh, come on.” Taofik Adekunle Jimoh (JAAT) is the Editor of News Bulletin Nigeria |
