manny4life:
Oga Coogar, I beg to disagree with you on this one o, big stores have Loss Prevention personnel who monitor these cameras. In large establishments, there's someone in the control room watching a live feed. The electronic tagging helps, but electronic tagging is only as good as if the items are in their original packaging. In MOST instances, the packaging is removed and discarded and the item is taken out. There's no way the anti-theft system will pick it up. The CCTV is the only equipment that picks up such activity.
only the staff at the till can remove those ink tags. if someone attempts to steal any clothing item without going to the till, the alarm system is deafening. the way people at the store would look at you, you would start confessing. grin

It's not waste of money considering the shrink value that retail stores go through. Most stores have shrink up to 3%, that's really high... That's literally profit to the store. A store that can save potential thousands of $$$ monthly will like hire one or two control room specialist.
the high end stores have cameras & they do monitor. they actually make enough profit to pay for personnel that would sit & stare at the monitors. a small scale store like the one in the video on this thread wouldn't be able to afford all that on security alone. they have overheads to pay, don't they?

Have you seen the security control room of Harrods before? I have and they have security men with radios monitoring the screens as well as patrolling the shop floor.
They don't just rely on tags and yes they do pay people to monitor CCTV and that is a hard fact..

Nuff said
harrods is a different story now.
that's a high end departmental store. how can you compare harrods to the one on this thread. come on, stop reaching! there are items in harrods worth several thousands of british pounds. don't compare it to a store in this video that looks like a regular £1 store. grin

CCTV is rarely monitored eh?

Ok go into Marks and Spencers or Harrods, stuff some clothes into your jacket and try and walk out. The big shops do monitor their CCTV and the national CCTV you see on roads, airports and other public places is monitored and recorded 24 hours a day.
they don't monitor their CCTVs....
all the items are tagged electronically. if a thief tries to take the clothes out without removing the tag @ the till, the anti-theft alarm system would be triggered.

The only people who 'rarely' monitor CCTV are those who put fake monitors up or some small shop owners. I suspect the reason they don't is they cant afford the staff. Even the small shop owners can be seen watching the monitors from time to time. I can't quote how often because i haven't done a survey nor have i read one regarding monitoring habits..so don't generalise and make statements like you have the statistics in your pocket.
no one monitors CCTV.....
it's extra work & waste of money on a job the camera is doing anyways. why would a shop owner pay anyone to sit down and stare at the monitor? grin

Furthermore we aren't in a country with effective police for you to rely on recognition of the individual after the crime has occurred, do you seriously think the police are going to come round and investigate. Its only the general public that might help identify the culprit but then what next?
the clothing items should have been tagged...

She must be the first thief to be featured on CCTV in Nigeria,
by the way what's the point having CCTV if you don't monitor it?
expensive waste of useful technology
even in the west, CCTVs are barely monitored in the shops. there's a system in place that would get an arrest with the face captured in the CCTV.

if this shop owner gets the police involved & they print these faces on a national newspaper or make "wanted" posters, the culprits would soon be arrested.

i am amazed at the sheer ignorance...

they simply forget what goes around comes around. they know the pretence & trickery they played on their husbands as young wives. when they grow up & bear sons who later get married, they try to protect him from his manipulative wife and thus the label "wicked MIL" is reborn. grin

Good advice but one sided. Some MILS will not just let their sons enjoy their marriage by intruding. Meanwhile forgetting that their DILS too are some one else's daughter and sister too. She wants to control two homes hers and her son's. Some of them never find anything good in their DIL. To them the sin of d DIL is marrying her son. If you say DILs should remember they too will some day be MILs too and what goes around comes it means the law of Karma is visiting such MILs.
i just can't stand this type of tunnel-vision. all the "wicked" MILs today were also "innocent" DILs about 2 decades ago. it's a vicious cycle. when you grow up and your son gets married - someone else's daughter would call you a wicked MIL one day.

The level of hypocrisy on nairaland is nauseating
People like sweetcocoa are here blaming op why she chose the guy and whether she was taped bla bla bla and bragging about what they would've done if it was their child.
Yet if someone opens a thread asking for advise on whether she should accept someone without her parents approval, u'll start hearing things like 'it's your life', 'your parents cannot dictate for you' etc
use your common sense and don't muddy the waters. accepting someone without parents approval is different altogether from getting pregnant out of wedlock. i don't see anything hypocritical about sweetcocoa's comment - you are the one exhibiting a huge dose of myopia or perhaps dyslexia!

Now this one has gone wrong and she's termed irresponsible girl that should've listen to her parents. Be careful what u say sha

she's irresponsible for getting pregnant - not irresponsible for choosing her baby-daddy as her partner. there's a universe of difference between the two.

But how else would we compare the two teams if one has played more games than the other? We can either take both back to 14 Games or calculate the amount of points garnered of the maximum available. Chelsea trumps in that, especially when we consider that they haven't lost a game yet and you have lost 2!
that is not my business....
man utd have won the most points from home this season. chelsea's game in hand is irrelevant. they have to win it for it to count. united have won theirs & nothing can remove it.

ElFenomeno1:
Concentrated nonsense from Coogar yet again!
Barren clubs? you talk like our trophy cabinet is the same as Weymouth FC's!
Been there done that, yet can't bloody qualify for the competition.... On the back of your garrulous statement about being there done that, you should be qualifying for UCL with relative ease, yearly... Not praying fervently and hoping other teams slip up!
You play the poorest football in recent times out of the top sides in England, you are in danger of not qualifying for a second year running, you frittered away tonnes of cash in one single summer with nothing tangible to show for it...
Past fu...cking glory is what you are living on...... That is all,
One point ahead but trust me, that one point is MAJOR ..... It is the difference between a title and no title, it is the difference between a UCL place and Europa place....
Lets see how you will make UCL if Arsenal are 1 point ahead of you lot in May and you find yourselves outside of the cut off!
You are shameless, you even have the nerves to use the match against Cambridge as a reference point, Cambridge, you needed a second game to beat... They were bloody playing in the non league a couple of years ago!
Coogar, you are a disgrace to e-punditry! grin
you have the brain capacity of a goat....
united make more money playing lower league teams than arsenal make when they host the best of european teams. what does it matter if it's cambridge? fact remains we sell more preseason game tickets than arsenal's biggest game of the season. #fanbase!

past fùcking glory?
says the föol whose club haven't won the premier league since 2004. how do you sleep at night? you have no chance of winning the premier league ever again. united have won the title 13 times to arsenal's miserable 3 titles.

then back to champions league - you just make up the number of participants, you have never won it. united have won it twice in the modern era. arsenal have only been to the final once & they were disgraced out of it by barca as far back as 2006.

there's nothing you can say here that puts your barren team in the same echelon as united. when the kings are discussing in europe, arsenal should hide. you are inferior in europe, you are inferior in england. hell, you are even inferior on NL. grin

maybe it's a big deal for barren clubs like arsenal who have never won it. it's nothing to united - they have been there done that. all the english representatives have been summarily eliminated there - so in total, you have 4 home games which is less than £3m in match bonus. it's around the same amount of money united made when they hosted cambridge at OT! grin
