davide470: OPEC does not pump more than its ceiling, every OPEC member has a quota of production which is being adhered to; Saudi Arabia the highest while Iran is making a grand re-entrance. Also, Oil firms are drastically affected by this slurge as profitability occurs if the cost of producing 1 barrel of Oil is lower than the price of Oil, so greater technological development in exploration might not be feasible at this time.
Also, there is not going to be a Lesser exploration with great advancement if non-OPEC members (US and Brothers) refuses to cut production, instead, OPEC (Saudi Arabia) would call for increase in production, notwithstanding the cost price.
The Oil war, also called "market share war" is between Saudi Arabia and US & Brothers! you might need to update yourself on current OPEC production. it is more than 30 mbpd at the moment. already , we have lesser exploration . many projects have been stalled, rig count lower than ever but I dont think research and development has . expect technology to have effect on prices as fracking is one reason why the price is what it is

Omaobe: I can 100% guarantee you that Shell will never ask you this kind question either during the phone interview or the SRD. Remember, you are being employed as a graduate not as a professional. You can merely discuss this kind question as a brain teaser here. Nothing more! it is not in the capacity of a professional alone to make hypothesis on what the price of oil would look like in the next year. That is why in the decision making you were asked scenarios only professionals may have answers to. https://www.glassdoor.com/Interview/Royal-Dutch-Shell-Graduate-Interview-Questions-EI_IE5833.0,17_KO18,26.htm

davide470: In the light of the recent happenings and pronouncement by OPEC, the elevated levels of production will continue, and the global oil market will remain oversupplied.
Also, with Iran already getting in the heat of the “market share war”, OPEC is more likely to raise the “current” production ceiling of 30MMbpd in recognition of Iran’s entry, rather than cut. This will pressure crude oil price in 2016, say Q1 - Q2 and hopefully OPEC will meet before its scheduled June 2016 meeting if prices get too low in their views.
In summary, Oil prices ain't going up for a while. Good points but at present OPEC pumps more than the ceiling. I think it's about 32 now. I don't see it go up but I think it will remain with little +/- changes. I think the interviewers might be looking beyond the commercial side of this i.e demand and supply. It's apparent the energy companies are having a tough time. They have cut everything "cuttable". My thought is this slump would lead to greater technological development in exploration as companies would want to explore cheaper than what it is. Lesser exploration with great advancement would result to a high price in the near future tho might not be in the next year. Upcoming election in the states is also something that may affect price. I can't tell if it would be positive or negative. |

In a forum where people contribute using pseudo names, I'm wondering of what use it is to fight to show relevance or level of your intelligence or information. These your arguments about knowledge of shell as a company is just uncalled for Can I tell you something. You can't get anything serious as it concerns this job opening on this thread other than the fact that phone interviews have been ongoing and SRD slated for january next year. Arguments like the above may seem unnecessary but they are learning points. We learn daily. Conflict is needed to bring the best out of a team / group but it has got to be maturely and not interfere the work flow. I wanted to ask peeps who followed dammyspencer advice if they got any response. Email senders, did you get any response? If yes, pls share. I read somwhere questions like this may be asked during interviews. " what do you think the price of oil would be in the next year? With reasons" . If you got smart answers, pls respond. |

Business › NNDC To Begin Oil, Gas Exploration In North-east In 2016 by COOLCATS(op): 11:47am On Dec 13, 2015 |
December 11, 2015 at 8:09 pm in News FacebookTwitterSMSWhatsApp The Northern Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) on Friday, said it would begin oil and gas exploration in the north- east in the first quarter of 2016. Chairman of the company, Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, stated this while briefing journalists at NNDC’s 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kaduna. Dalhatu said the company was collaborating with its technical partners and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), on the expertise and budgetary requirements for the take-off of the project. The company’s Group Managing Director (GMD), Alhaji Ahmed Musa, further said NNDC could not commence the project as earlier planned due to the security situation in the region. Musa said NNDC was also constrained by finance anc production sharing formula. He said the company needed 20 million dollars for exploration on each of the four oil blocks which caused part of the delay, assuring that plans were underway to begin the project within the first quarter of 2016. The GMD said the NNDC would open the exploration in the four oil block s allocated to it in the Lake Chad Basin, while plans were underway to acquire four more oil blocks in the region. On the AGM, the NNDC said that the company had recorded 42 per cent increase in its income the financial year ended March 31, 2015. “Operating income increased from N651.2 million to N923.9, while a 73 per cent increase had been recorded in operating profit before tax from N137.2 million to N237.2 million. “ Furthermore, increase was recorded in earnings per share of 87 per cent from 16.7 kobo to 31.2 kobo and 4.4 per cent in net assets per share from N14.1 to N18. 5 when compared with results of the preceding year ended 31st March 2014. “ The chairman further said NNDC had trained 541 chartered accountants since inception of the programme in 2007 under its Young Professional Development Trust across centres located in Kaduna, Kano and Ilorin. Bashir said the fourth study centre would soon be opened in Gombe state for youths in the north-east. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/nndc-to-begin-oil-gas-exploration-in-north-east-in-2016/ |

I see reason why so many multinationals find it hard to recruit candidates without tangible experience for entry level roles. Perhaps , any follower of this thread makes it to the assessment centre, pls don't start looking for mistakes of your counterparts, don't start pointing out the other person's loop holes/error. if you feel he or she has made a mistake , correct him or her with respect after results have been achieved. Ok , lots of tension on here about reasons for regret mail. Shell has limited openings for the programme, not all departments or streams have vacancies as at the time the job posting was up. in other countries such as the UK , one has the chance of knowing which department has got openings and which has not. one may likely get a regret mail if the desired department has no opening as at the time of application. |

Damscoy: It is obvious that people are talking based on their previous experience in the labour market. Some people having been through a rigorous recruitment process got dropped because of candidate that knows someone in the company, even though less qualified (I know the feeling), whereas some, I will say have been favoured enough to get in without knowing anyone. Whichever side of the road you find yourself, it is best to keep an open mind because the so called "know people rot" that many says is rampant in Nigeria is actually not a Nigerian thing, it is a gradual global evolution of the nature of recruitment process. It is popularly referred to as Networking. In fact it is estimated that 90% of vacancies are filled through networking, while the remaining 10% is what is been advertised, even a certain % of this advertised may still be filled by inside candidates. It is a growing trend around the world because people prefer to recruit someone they can trust or that is been supported by someone they can trust as other necessary ingredients such as skills, knowledge and qualifications can be acquired on the job. And beside, lets face it, who among us will be a in a position to help an unemployed blood brother and prefer to take on a complete stranger even though he is more qualified. Even in church secular vacancies, a committed worker is more likely to get the Job than a more qualified ordinary member. As the saying goes: Charity begins at home.
Therefore, I strongly believe that in as much as we are making all efforts to get that dream job by studying, gathering necessary qualifications, networking, applying and so on, we will surely get it by God's grace. Never give up or lose faith no matter the number of times you failed. Let it make you stronger not bitter. Whether na connections or na merit, the koko be say na to get the dream job. It is well! there is a difference between referral and meritocracy.yes , referreal is a known way of getting high chances but not when quality of a process is jeopardised. shell will not employ a candidate whose performance was poor at SRD because he was referred and then leave out the guy who is the top performer. |

handie: Seriously, I agree that the mindset plays a huge role. I've seen and I know many unemployed but brilliant guys. Their problem? They're of the opinion that u need not apply for all these big coys as u ain't in without connection and this I disagree with 100%. Agreed. Connection plays a role in some instances. Luck plays a greater role but what I believe plays the greatest role is your smartness(I said smartness not brilliance.... I've met a lot of brilliant but not smart fellows. And those are the ones that will think a less brilliant but smart fellow getting a job is as a result of connection). Another factor is ur ability to really take on d odds. Leave ur comfort zone and go for what u want. They say there's unemployment in Nigeria, I say it's a lie. U just ain't smart enough. Want an example? How about u take a result from a top tier southern uni to the north? In the northeast right now, vacancies abound. Why not go there? Just about going for NYSC, why not ignore the fact that there's insecurity in the NE(no place is secure in Nigeria) and go there? There's a high probability of being retained after service... Don't also forget that the insurgency can't go on forever and @ d end, there'll be needs for reconstruction and all such.... More jobs. Also, with d exploratory activities going on in d chad basin, why not resettle? Were I an investor, walahi I'll apply the contrarian strategy and invest heavily in the northeast. And insha Allah, I'll give my service to my fatherland in the northeast and I KNOW I'll get a job there. Summary? Whether u've got connections or not, There're jobs in Nigeria if u're smart and ready to brave d odds yes its good to take the odds but understand that taste and preference differs , thats where passion comes in. its not about getting a job its about doing the job you love to do . Passion comes first before anything in one's career. There is nothing like "Luck ".Anyone you see in a present position once worked hard and prayed for it, if the person never worked hard but finds himself in that position sometime, It won't be long before the person gets kicked out, he would never perform upto expectation in that position. |

Jarus : I have never said there's no 'leg' in recruitment process. It is, and yes, quite rampant. So should we now because of this not encourage them to put in their efforts? No. Encourage people. Tell them their efforts can count. Don't write off their chances because they don't know anyone. It is not as bad as portrayed by people. Someone just entered thread and said "Shell have already known the people the people they wanted to take" regardless of performance in SRD. Apart from the fact that it is wrong, it is demoralizing. And you cannot tell me every single person in NNPC got the job through a letter from minister or any other VIP. I told you the case of someone I brought to Lagos and accommodated who got NNPC job without knowing anyone. His brilliance and smartness worked for him. We lived under the same roof. It is left for anyone to say whatever they want to say, but going to a war with the mindset that your effort will not count is dangerous, and telling people that is toxic.Of course Shell already knows their likely future employees. They are the ones wih the desired expertise, skills and qualities. he only said the fact. Now ,I am a fan of your post but you have not understood Mr poch thought. what he is saying is yes , shell recruits on merit how many other organisation does. he agreed its a bad mindset but it remains the fact that many organisations compromise quality over sentiments and thats where the problem is not the smart guys with that mentality. some have come to that conclusion cause of frustration they have been through. you never know where it hurts someone if you have not been in their shoes. there are many organisations that recruit on merit but whats its proportion. This is where we need to start from if we want a better Nigeria. |
