feelamong: CBN STOP RATES FOR TREASURY BILLS AUCTION 10/10/201291 day bill stop rate was 13.0% and not 13.13%. . . .i believe that must have been an error! |
check you out WHERE? You've posted a shop. . . .why not give the address its located to check to your stuff out? |
@all mind you,in evaluating your TBills returns, you should consider its effective interest rate being an upfront deal (zero coupon) when comparing to other interest bearing back-end deals. |
feelamong: Omo, these rates are really down o!! Chai!! Thunder fire satan!!Laaaffss. . . .but guys in financial institution are hoping that with yields coming down, the next MPC meeting may deem fit to reduce MPR so funding costs come down. If that ends up being the case, the rates will look good again to them. For now, foreign investors, fund managers, PFAs, retail banks and individuals are the ones still finding the rates attractive. |
feelamong: But if one could get 14% in dat Access bank deal; doesnt it look better?Well, i guess so but dependent on the conditions attached to it. i know Stanbic came up with something similar but minimum of 90days and a minimum principal too. If not too excessive, that'l be a good move. So to all those that lost at the auction today, you may make further enquiries at Access and lets see what it holds as per conditions. |
Guys, Below are the CBN stop rates for the treasury bills auction held today; 91 days was at stop rate of 12.00% 182 days was at stop rate of 12.60% Rates have really gone way DOWN. . . . . |
The incentive it still has to offer is that it is liquid, risk-free and competitive in face of other money market instruments. No investment house will pay you 10% on a few millions currently unless you doing a long term and usually its volume based. For individuals, think of your cost of funding (its your money at zero interest thus your cost can be equated to be your opportunity cost). What i think the suave investor should think of now is diversified investment basket. Thinking of the Capital market too but waiting for the usual January offload after holiday break and get out by April when companies start releasing results. |
The Monetary Policy Committee has concluded its meeting held on Monday, September 17, 2012 and Tuesday, September 18, 2012. The decisions reached at the end of the meeting are: 1. Retained the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) at 12%, with the symmetric corridor of +/-2% 2. Retained the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) at 12%, and 3. Retained the Net Foreign Exchange Open Position (NOP) at 1%. The major considerations of the MPC are: 1. Ensuring robust external reserves position. 2. Mitigating negative effect of increased Foreign Portfolio Investment (hot money), and 3. The inflationary impact of high "core inflation'. |

Expectations at the auction: 91 days: 12.00% - 13.00% 182 days: 12.85% - 13.30% **note these are personal opinion and not in advisory capacity. also do not represent CBN official rates |

Yields have continued to drop over the past week as a result of an increase in demand for bills. The drop averaged 150 bps(1.50%) and has been attributed to the influx of foreign investors in the market. |
Godogwu: I dont believe this thing one bit. I heard it was in yesterday's papers but still, only a plain dumb person can go for this. Like!, even if you paid just the regular which is N10m there's a great chance EFCC will look into you case, not to speak of paying N300m for a table.....even if it were 10 people to a table. If this were something for the likes of big business tycoons like Dangote, Adenuga, Jim Ovia, Otedola etc, it may be very much reasonable because they actually made that money themselves but as a government worker/ politician it would be quite stupid to go for this sort of thing if working for the government and politics is all you do. Well let's watch and see, 29th isn't far...Pali, try buy ThisDay newspapers of today and check page 12B and clear your doubts by reading it yourself - full page advertorial fa! |
Another point to share is that following announcement in the middle of the month of August 2012 that JP Morgan index will be listing FGN Bonds in its index by October 2012, there was significant increase in demand for bonds especially from foreign investors with preference for the long dated maturities. This renewed demand forced yields down as prices on maturities of those bonds trading rose steadily. Note that for a while now, the yield on bonds have been high and prices trading at low levels which had made the secondary trading activities on the bond's very dull as most of the banks are sitting on negative mark to market positions on these bonds and have moved significant portions to theri Held To Maturity portfolio. It is believed that we may witness further decline in yields if these renewed demands level continue as it also pave more options on raising funds for the government. This will surely impact on TBills yield. |
wura2020: Please how is the interest on 91 days TB calculated? The interest posted to me does not agree with my own calculation. In addition to feelamong's response. use your bid interest you quoted in computation and not the final stop rates. |I guess that's where the contrasting difference is coming from. All the best! |

There will be primary auction for Treasury Bills on Wednesday, 05-September-12 (settlement - 6th September 2012) with details as follows; 91 days tenor with maturity date of 06-Dec-12 - N32.97 billion 182 days tenor with maturity date of 07-Mar-13 - N50.00 billion 364 days tenor with maturity date of 05-Sep-13 - N60.00 billion The 91-day and 182-day bills are trading in the secondary market at 13.50% (offer) and 13.85%(offer) respectively. Yields have continued to drop over the past week as a result of an increase in demand for bills. The drop of averaged of 150 bps(1.50%). This has been attributed to the high level of liquidity in the system despite the attempts by CBN to mop up the excess liquidity through OMO auctions. Yields at this auction are not expected to close as high as the previous two auctions |

feelamong: A lot of people have been sending mails to me on Tbills asking for where they could actually invest as low as N100K - N500K. Can You advise on any Discount House that accepts as low as that. My bankers do not accept below N1Million.It would be rare to get any to do that unless you have an account with them which means you would have met their minimum opening investment balances which would always be in Millions. Safe to say the paper work and charge (ranging between 0.5%pa - 0.75%pa) does not make the PMD to accept low amounts. However, there are mutual funds dealing solely in government securities (havent done any analysis on them yet) like "bond fund" bla bla which may be another option though you cant expect as high returns as investing directly. |
webstradamus: How does this secondary market work and how can one participate?in addition to @feelamong's statement, note that you can also buy treasury bills on the secondary market. You need not wait for primary auctions or OMO auctions to invest in treasury bills. The secondary market is like you buying an already issued maturity which is being traded. Registered Primary Market Dealers (banks and discount houses) atimes sell from their existing portfolio to investors and can take instructions to buy specific maturities from the market on your behalf. Will be willing to answer further enquiries @feelamong. . . will send you my details. keep up the good work! |
Very interesting topic. Truth is someone opened a thread about some fraudulent agents and there were several comments most about negative experiences with this so called property agents. i have dealt with a few and i can tell you they are basic time wasters, have no clue about the property they advertise, some have not even been to the property before and you discover the long chain of agents you are introduced to before you meet a direct contact. i call them "man must wack" jobbers. lack professionalism and could irritate the living daylight out of you. a much as we vilify them, few have distinguished themselves and i second the poster that suggest we talk about those that have assisted in concluding transactions. by this, let me commend bomega4u on the successful transaction we had. we concluded a deal as regards the purchase of a house and was smooth. . . . we surely would tie a few more and can recommend him to anyone beating my chest. |
expectation ranges as follows - 91 days: 14.00% - 14.65% 182 days: 14.95% - 15.55% **please note these are expectations based on the market reading and not CBN stop rates! |
There will be primary auction for Treasury Bills on Wednesday, 22-August-12 with details as follows; 91 days tenor with maturity of 22-Nov-12, amount on offer is N30.647 billion 182 days tenor with maturity date of 21-Feb-13, amount on offer is N40.00 billion The 91-day and 182-day bills are trading in the secondary market at 14.40% (offer) and 15.25%(offer) respectively. Yields had gone up across all maturities in the past week due to a drop in the level of liquidity and an increment in the sales of bills by counterparties who need to raise funds to meet their obligations. However, there was a marginal drop over the past two days as there was a decrease in demand for bills. There is also the expectation of the FAAC inflow after the holidays. It is expected that yields at this auction might hover around the stop rates of the previous one |
you guys are doing a good job, will help feelamong with regards to updates and tips in making decision on TBills from our in-house resource |
