ElekeNtioba: am talking abt what predated d oyo empire and ur giving me a link to d oyo empire. So much for reading!

Why dont u try and read whats relevant to what am saying. Hw does rise and spread of oyo empire imply dat yoruba didnt come out from d bini??

And what insight does ur coming from d south-south give u as to d history of yorubas. Did u live around d tym of d oyo empirehuh

Pls dont quote me with a half-azzed comment again. U speak like an sumone enlightened bt all i hear is bullshit.
The Akpes language has its origins traced down to present day Ondo state,
Ayere–Ahan is traced down to present day Kwara state,
the Gbe language is traced down to south eastern ghana with distribution spanning across Benin, Togo and into Nigeria.
The Fon language is traced down to Togo.
The Ewe language is traced down to Ghana and Togo.
Yoruba is traced down to Nigeria and Benin
Akoko language is traced to preesent day ondo state.
Of course Igbo origins are easily traced to eastern Nigeria.
Of all the launguage (and by extension people) groups that make that Volta-Niger population, only one, Edo is has origins with the Benin people

Now tell me, not forgetting the language they speak, do you still claim that Yorubas originated from Benin?

The map below shows the Volta-Niger region

Please go here and get an insight into the origins of the of the yoruba people:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Yoruba_people

According to wiki, "The documented history of the Yoruba people begins with the Oyo Empire, which became dominant in the early 17th century. Older traditions of the formerly dominant Ife kingdom are sparse and unreliable."

It further goes on to say "The African peoples who lived in Yorubaland, at least by the seventh century BC, were not initially known as the Yoruba, although they shared a common ethnicity and language group. The historical Yoruba develop in situ, out of earlier (Mesolithic) Volta-Niger populations, by the 1st millennium B.C.E."

Now the question is what people constitute the Volta-Niger Populations?

Below is a breakdown based on the language spoken

ElekeNtioba: skewing history just to take potshots at Igbos.....smh

not meddling in other's etnic sovreignty....what world are u living inhuh. Hw do u think d Usman dan fodio caliphate came to nigeria.....did he beg d den pagan hausa kingdom to accept him. Hw do u think that at some point in history d oyo empire was paying tributes to sokoto....do u call dat generosity or waht?? When d whitemen came calling and forced his tradition on u....do u call dat love or wat??

We dont have any feudal system of master-slave tradition that ur pple had for ages. That why we are adventurous. The boundaries u set for urself do not apply to us.

Feel free to come up with another word for it. Meddling its so lame....smh
That is my point. In the past, all the meddling has been done. Now everyone respects everyone else's space. Yorubas meddled to expand their empire. Usman dan fodio meddled. South-south kingdoms too. It would seem the only people that did not do any of that are Igbos because they never were one political unit.

So others have done that and gone past that, have had conquests and defeats, done good and done bad things in the past. Today, they are at peace with their history accepting all that happened. Igbos do not have that because things that happened to them never happened to them as the Igbo kingdom. There was no Igbo Kingdom. So I say that is probably why they do not have respect for other people's ancient kingdoms - because they did not have theirs. They culturally do not understand that kind of respect for large scale organizational heritage preserved through the generations

They just think it is alright to try to lay cultural claim to Lagos. Other ethnic groups are there and do not feel the need to do so because other ethnic groups have their own ancient kingdoms too and it does not need to be explained to them the absurdity of such desires.
Politics › Re: 2015: Igbo Demand Lagos Deputy Gov’s Slot by coolscott(m): 12:07am On Sep 15, 2014
When Nigeria becomes such that people that are not originally from a certain state can win elections in that state, that can happen. But the Igbo man's affrontal approach will keep on driving that day further and further for him.

One reason other ethnic groups do not do this is because they come from a historically and anciently organized heritage, with which they find modern day peace. So they have no appetite for meddling in other people's ancient ethnic sovereignty.

Igbos did not have any ancient sovereignty so it is possible they do not even know how offensive it is to meddle in that of others

It is not only the =N=150 billion in the monorail project that hurts. but the thought process that led to that decision gives an insight into the kind of thought processes the mercy of which so much in the state has been left to over the past few years

whitecat1: You don't get it! Some part of Edo/Bini are descendants of Yoruba and not the other way around. Yoruba don't bear Bini names but, Bini bear Yoruba names. The gods Bini worship still have to be appeased with some Yoruba words. Even the king of Benin republic attested to coming from Yoruba and pays homage in Yorubaland.

Like they say, the river that forgets its source will dry! Which of the two tribes is bigger, better, world renowned and have descendants in 3 continents? There you go! The answer is Yoruba.
ElekeNtioba: binis bearing yoruba names is a function of wide-spread assimilation. D bigger snake swallowin d smaller one.

Most Binis will disagree wit ur version. They insist d progenitor of ur race was a renegade prince from their kingdom.

Do u mean oba of benin or president of benin republic?? These are two different persons.

As for d bigger tribe issue. Evidence suggests d Bini prince who went rogue and spurned ur race managed to gain dominance over smaller neighbouring tribes whom today make up wat is called yoruba tribe. Thats why there is marked differences in d spoken language i.e dialects and intonation.
That guy is right. I am from the south south but I am aware that the oyo empire was very great. So Yoruba influence in those days spread across the borders of present day Nigeria into present day Benin republic. That is what he is trying to refer to. Please go to this wikipedia link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oyo_Empire

So it is so highly unlikely that the Yorubas came out of Benin and I never thought I would ever hear of that, but the thing is no one is interested in reading anymore. People are not that keen one reading history. Growing up we were encouraged to read about the history of the regions one way or the other . But I see a lack of apetite to read and discover. And I observe that those that do not read are more eager to force/volunteer their ignorance upon others.

Igbos seem the most guilty as they do not have any written material from the time when they were one solid organized ethnic group because there never was such a time

I am a Rivers Ijaw from the south-south and this is a note I put up on facebook about the igbos

The Igbo Nation
September 12, 2014 at 7:11am

The current concept of an igbo nation is not refined at all because consciously or subconsciously, Igbos sadly find historical identity only in Biafra. This is because before the war, there is totally nothing they did together as a people. And this in turn is because before the colonialists, they were unable to make themselves into one political group. They therefore skew every position or narration concerning 1963 - 1970 for the sake of historical pride because besides it, they have nothing else they did historically together as a people.

The Igbo nation was not born before Biafra. Igbos did not know the geographical boudries of their ethnic group before colonialism.

Other ethnic groups are different because their ancient kingdoms existed before the white man. They formed themselves into formidable and full political bodies. They had their ancient conquests (and their ancient failings) so they do not need to glorify or skew events of the 60s to paint themselves as heroes or as people that should be sympathized with for being treated unfairly.

Please understand that there was political structure - on the clan or group of clans level only. That is why although there were sometimes clashes between Igbo clans and villges, there was never a time when all Igbos (from the Onitsha Igbos to the west, and the Etche Igbos to the south and all of the igbo ethic group) took up arms to fight any encroacher who tried to encroach into an Igbo vilage around the north (present day Enugu area).

That political structure just didn't exist. If villages in the northern area were fighting, Etche Igbos probably knew nothing about it. The Onitshas had a kingdom of their own, obviously influenced by the culture of politically organised kingdoms not far from them. This is just the reality of the historical political structure.

This total absence of a complete Igbo kingdom from time past to now is the source of this unspoken touchiness about their identity that Igbos feel and which they are usually not conciously aware of because a huge part of it is subconscious, or has been transferred from an older person to a younger person in the narration of ideas from the old to the young.

If Igbos can form themselves into one well structured, traditional political body, there will be a different kind of soundness from a deep level, the depths of which perhaps cannot be surpassed.

Complete political wholeness and congruence from a deep traditional level is the only way to the modern day soundness that some other ethnic groups currently enjoy.

This will take completely restructuring the whole traditional governing system across the board, so that traditional authority flows from one stool to all the other stools in the Igbo nation, with in-built checks and balances. This will amount to creating/starting a traditional monarchy within and for all of the Igbo nation in this mordern day and time.

When I was younger, in my naiive enthusiasm, I thought this was possible. Now I am older I still indulge myself to a little fantasy and imagine it is.

The end. I will post more

alabiyemmy: There are two sides to a story.
There will be no other side to the story except further revelations of unacceptable crap from inside the church.

That church feels a particular need to cover up because they have cloaked themselves with the cloak and air of divine superiority with the ability to spiritually decipher. It is the need to be seen that way that causes them to react the way they have. Otherwise, accidents do happen and should be investigated with a view to trying to avoid the reasons that have led to them.

But that does not mean there is anything holy or divine about the laughable show that is the Synagogue church.

Reminds me of a wolf trying to dress in sheep's clothing that doesn't quite fit.

The message to the rest of the churches that put the synagogue church down however, is... Is there anything the synagogue is doing differently than they are?

Now if the synagogue church is really occultic (and I believe it is) but their daily and weekly corporate church activities are similar to that of other accepted churches, it only goes to show that what makes you genuine, authentic or practically relevant is not the ritual of activities that define the weekly official activities of your church, especially when the main drive after activity-promotion is personality and church brand promotion.

God promotion, human teaching and human character growth and development as guided by the fruits of the Spirit are far down the priority list (if they appear at all) as church earnings, attendance numbers and popularity and public acceptability become the central focus, much as it is with secular business brands.

So I accuse the Synagogue church of being fake, but I also accuse the rest of us - for not being able to demonstrate a valid difference
Politics › Two APC Governors, National Assembly Members Set To Join PDP – Metuh by coolscott(op): 4:08pm On Sep 14, 2014
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday disclosed that two All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and federal lawmakers are set to join its fold.

https://nigeriaexitpolls.com/blog/article_photos/pdpapc.jpg

The statement signed by National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, said “Many more of its (APC) members, including two state governors and members of the National Assembly are now set to decamp to the PDP due to the bad image and anti-democratic stance of the APC”.

The ruling party criticised the opposition for attempting to deceive Nigerians by presenting former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as one of President Goodluck Jonathan’s entourage during his recent trip to Chad.

PDP described as “repulsive and utterly despicable”, the refusal of the APC to shed its taste for lying, spreading of falsehood and attacks on individuals as means of achieving political control in spite of several counsels[sic] by well-meaning Nigerians.

It added that the Jonathan-led administration would remain undistracted by the antics of APC, which were all geared towards scoring cheap political points with the 2015 general elections in sight.

Actually, I am a busy person with work to do and that is why I have not had time to post on this since the 22nd of July when all this went down. I have to leave off now. I have done my job but before I go, I just want to tell Mr. Akpede Frances a thing or two about the lies in his allegations he has so shamelessly put up here.

You have lied and lied directly into your business. It is in your business that you have sown the seeds of these lies. Therefore, it is in your business that these lies will grow, and will eventually bring forth fruits. And it is in your business that these fruits will be harvested. Just as surely as it is my hands that are typing these words, and you are aware of the lies you have told here, so shall these words come true

Of course you do not have to worry about my words if you have not lied here.

But just in case you are worried or get worried at anytime, you can always come here and confess your lies. That will be the only way out for you. Just as out of your own volition, you set yourself to telling these lies, so you must set yourself to correcting them if you must evade the fruits of the lies you have hereby sown in your own garden.

Have a nice life!

For the rest of us, I have put Mr. Francis' email to me in another topic. You may find it here: https://www.nairaland.com/1887877/some-crap-email-travel-ebook
Travel › Some Crap Email From A Travel Ebook Seller by coolscott(op): 5:07pm On Sep 04, 2014
This is the reply from the owner of http://www.learnersandjobs.com/consultancy.php when I complained about the poor quality of his ebook and asked him for a refund

If you are highly disappointed then l think you have a malevolent
intent which you were not able to executive due to prevailing security
measures as such your disappointment can't be a yardstick to judge the
purposefulness of this book, the purpose of this book is to make you a
travel agent and a visa consultant.
On my website the course content is explicitly open, the currently prevail
y circumstance does not warrant refund because the course content is fully
delivered(http://www.learnersandjobs.com/refund.php)

Regard your suggestion, transforming or modifying another persons work as
your own without referring to the owner is plagiarism (using another
person's writeup without referring to the persons name).
Kazlauskas is an enigma, an expert in qualifying clients, the same way l
referred to him that's how
http://www.travelagewest.com/Exec-Connect/Qualifying-Your-Clients/#.U9AaGECTHU8
also referred to him, l never knew this site before now, this book l
bought for $29.97(http://www.fabjob.com/travelconsultant.asp) also
referred to him with his name also mention get a copy you will see it
there.

Typo is simply incorrect grammar which you are also guilty of, fist you
wrote typos (typos is not found in the English dictionary), secondly you
wrote "I have to confess sir, that I was highly disappointing at the
quality of this ebook." the correct sentence is("I have to confess sir,
that I was highly disappointed at the quality of this ebook."
disappointing as you use it is totally wrong for an SSCE holder not to
talk of you, don't feel you are too much.

Dafiri, you just succeeded in telling me that you are a hurried
learner, because of people like you l added pages 288-293 to enable you
become a visa consultant without much work, the content of those pages are
worth N25,000.

In case you decided to write a book on this, you must mention my name and
quote me raw otherwise if l see that you modify my work, the divine cosmic
will punish you, you can't be more catholic than the pop, stop it.
Travel › Re: --- by coolscott(op):
And please, just to be clear, I said It is the parts jacked from the internet that do not have bad grammar
An indication that a section of his book was blatantly plagiarized will be that you do not find grammatical errors there.

In other words, while reading his work, if you are reading a portion and it is not rife with errors, it is a good chance that part was plagiarized. It is very likely that if you take a part of that area and search for it on google, you will find where he jacked it from word for word.

In the end, this is still the best thing that has happened to Mr. Akpede's business because while he wouldn't listen to me while I spoke to him about his work, now I am sure he is reviewing his book and desperaltely making as much corrections as he can.

I am still certain that he gave no one a copy of his work for proofreading. I cannot imagine a proofreader churning out the kind horror that his work was and if anyone did, that person was either a quack or just evil. That is how bad the work is. But I live in our country. I feel certain it is the case that he just thought his work was good as it was and then declared it to himself ready for the world.

Now the typos are just one thing. Even if they are corrected Mr. Francis still has the job of referencing all the people from whom he got information or paraphrasing their texts if he chooses not to reference.

Now even if he does that, the quality of information in the work is not great at all

And even if he further works on this and successfully makes the information great, I will tell you the major reason it is turning out to be right my letting others know of my experience with his book and him in general.

The major reason is that A RANCOROUS SPIRIT DOES NOT LEND ITSELF TO THE PROFESSION OF SELLING

I will post here the reply he sent to my deciding to complain to him about his book on the 22nd of July.

To think that that is the reply he gives me after collecting my money for his book is just not acceptable.

To think he will come here and lie about me asking for ransom and the other things he thoughtlessly cooked up is just totally unacceptable and shows the kind of respect he has for the people he attempts to sell to.

FIR: See what Dafiri Irimagha, a graduate wrote to me:
"I have to confess sir, that I was highly disappointing at the quality of
this ebook.

I have never desired a refund for material I have bough online until now.

First of all, there was too much material that did not really apply to the
visa consultant in Nigeria. It seemed you researched online for material
and left some materials as is, copied it and pasted it. You didn't even
take the time to put it in your own words.

That is called "Plagiarism" Let me give you just one example of where you
did this. In fact let me not bother. Let me just give you the a site where
you copied and pasted from:
<http://www.travelagewest.com/Exec-Connect/Qualifying-Your-Clients/>*

Have you seen the real work others are doing? I don't want to mention them
here but if you want I will show you their sites.

The other thing is your book was full of typos. Just typos upon typos. You
did not give this material to a proof reader to proof-read before
publishing it. No. If you did, you need to collect your money back from him
and ask him for damages for doing such a horrible job.

Now, I am going to call you in a short while. I want you to be aware of my
position before I call you. You had better accept the things I intend to
(and will) tell you in good faith because it might be the best things you
have heard about your business in a long time.

*They say that good unsatisfied customers are the ones that complain (to
you). The others just move on. You do not need to be told what they say to
others.*"

the write word would have been disappointed and not disappointing,
there is no such word as typos in the oxford dictionary, the correct word is typo.
When he called me he demanded for a N15,000 ransom and that if l don't pay the money
to his bank account, he will destroy my reputation in the social media and confiscate my
website and he has hacked my website, l want to tell all nairalanders that Dafiri Irimagha
is a crook, dubious person and a website kidnapper, beware of Dafiri Irimagha
Now I am sure it was the right thing my coming here to save others from working with this guy (at least from buying his book)
I did type "disappointing" instead of "disappointed" but that is because I type fast and can make errors while typing but that was just an email being churned out. I did not re-read that mail through before sending but that is not something you can afford to do when you are preparing a work for the world to read.

Now he lies I asked for =N=15,000 ransom and I said I would destroy his rep on social media and confiscate his website if he doesn't comply. Now that is sounding like someone on a very special ganja because that is not even a believable lie

From the the tone of my email to him doesn't it sound like I wanted to help him? From the tone of my email, would I call to ask him for ransom? This is what I told him

You do not need to be told what they say to
others.*"

I will post here what he sent me in reply to my complaint and I hope everyone can judge if it is not consistent with the persona he displays here on this forum

The site is http://www.learnersandjobs.com/consultancy.php

The owner is Akpede Francis

I bought the ebook. It is crap. His money back guarantee is also crap.

You will see that he just copied and pasted from other people's work (plagiarism) from the internet. He did not reference them:

This is one link I easily found where he plagiarised from: http://www.travelagewest.com/Exec-Connect/Qualifying-Your-Clients/

If you want to find out the parts of his book that were plagiarised, just look at the places where the grammar is not terrible. Copy and pate it in google and you are likely to find online sources.

When I sent him a mail telling him how I wasn't happy, he replied me saying a lot of nonsense I have only read today since the 22nd of July

He ended his reply by insulting me by suggesting I may want to resell his bad grammar infested piece of cheap work. this is what he said below:

"In case you decided to write a book on this, you must mention my name and
quote me raw otherwise if l see that you modify my work, the divine cosmic

Instead of doing that, I will just get in contact with some of the people he has plagiarized and they will be the ones after him - if they think it is worth it anyway.

I am just letting you know the kind of guy this guy is and the kind of material he is selling. I lost my money to him. You do not have to lose yours.
