Politics › Re: S H O C K I N G: A Town In Imo State Has A Muslim As King by coolscott(m): 10:02pm On Oct 12, 2014 |
The one thing wrong with this post is that Igbos don't have kings. They have only had multiple titles. They have no monarchy and they say it in a saying in their language "Ibo ewe gi eze". Forgive my Igbo. I am not igbo and am not good at the language but that is my attempt at writing the popular Igbo saying underscoring their point.
I however think they like the idea of kings even though kings are a complete non-existent in their cultural history. Which is why you see the funny Nigerian movies with igbo kings of villages rather than of territories, a reflection of modern day cultural fantasy.
If they live in peace however, I like the idea of tolerance. Although I believe Islam is not the way to God, I hope this is a step forward in the direction of tolerance amongst us as Nigerians

Dejohnbull: Shame on u Amechi, wike is coming to complete ur big elephant projects, sometimes i fil like to compare u wit t a orji. Rivers People may not like Amaechi but it does not mean they like Wike either. Wike just assumed this. Being revered in the party hierarchy did not automatically translate into acceptance/endearment with the people. I didn't even know what Wike looked like until many months into his fight with Amaechi. He didn't even sound impressive when I heard him. Anyway, this thread is not about Wike. It is about the monorail and while I do not want Mr. Wike's ambitions fulfilled, my opinion is that Governor Amaechi's successor scraps this project for good. Let it remain a painful reminder to us all that projects must be thought out properly first before being embarked upon. |

kel4soft: Rivers State budget is 485bn not 490bn with the state expected to get 241.243bn from the Federation Account; N92.420bn from internal sources; N33.5bn from the sales of assets; N100bn from proposed loans; N6.983bn from the World Bank and N0.660bn www.punchng.com/news/rivers-lawmakers-pass-2014-budget-in-govt-house/
As of July this year, the state has gotten just 89bn from Federation according from NOI publication. Compare the figure to 241.243bn the state was expecting and the allocation keeps going down. Offcourse the state can't achieve 100% IGR of 92.42billion annually. Only the state rec current expenditure is N237.950bn for the 2014 budget. The 100billion bond propose to compliment the budget so far only 50billion was approved by the HOA.
If the State has realised less than N237.950bn of recurrent expenditures from both FAA, IGR and bonds and loans. Tell me how it will meet up its capital projects of a different figure of N247.573bn?
Comparing Lagos to Rivers is like comparing Apples to oranges. Lagos hits more than 200bn annually on IGR while Rivers struggle with 70billion. The wage bill of Rivers State is 9.2billion monthly since apart from PH, the residence are civil servants.
Lagos State is financing her light rail with $1bn world bank loan while Rivers monorail is from the state budget. www.thisdaylive.com/articles/lagos-how-we-spent-n160bn-world-bank-loan-on-light-rail-project/188736/ Lagos State debts though they can service it is 10 times bigger than what Rivers have.
Rivers State spent 800million naira annually on the free secondary school that the Indians manage of 1000 students of Rivers indigenes and non indigenes on scholarship at Nne Kuru Model Sec Sch at Eleme. Even the FG cant dare that.
The state service over 2000 overseas scholars smonthly stipends all from sane budget
Even the PDP in the state can't buy into this your ignorance.
EFFC should arrest Wike first since he is not under immunity then I can start taken your claim of not PDP and APC seriously.
Can I see any where you quoted that EFFC should investigate the embarrassment in South Africa before you start your non partisan when actually you are. This thread is not about a comparison between Governor Amaechi and any other politicians. I think what it is about is very clear. ~ South-South voice |

kel4soft: Why are you quoting 150 billion you can't defend? who told you the project is that amount? Well from the design the train passes through Isaac Boro Park then elapse at Waterlines. The flyovers at Mile 1 wont be of any hindrance.
Hahahahaha, it seems am the only still deluding myself on this monorail stuff? The budget for this project has never been kept a secret. It has always been public knowledge, just like any large public project anywhere. Are you not aware of this? I am adding a screenshot of your profile. ChimaAdeoye: I hope EFCC is taking evidence and documenting the River State monthly allocations,IGR and how it is being spent.
The Rivers State budget is always about N490 Billion naira which is bigger than Lagos budget of about N488 Billion naira. If Fashola who has a bigger civil service and many spectacular projects can find money to invest in his even longer light rail, i wonder where Rivers money is going.
Rivers state budget of more than $3 Billion dollars is bigger than the annual budget of 40 out of 54 African countries!
This is not going to be about APC or GEJ politics, this man must not be allowed to enjoy the peoples money he is stealing. Very Correct |

My community and 180 other communities now have a standard health centre with 2 nurses and 1 doctor
Hundreds of our children are studying abroad because of my Governor
Songhai farms, banana plantations etc
My Governor employed 30000 teachers
My President made sure that no project was sited in my state. My president built just 125 almajeri schools My President gives corrupt leaders presidential pardon My President gave TA Orji national honour My President gives militants billions My President built an airport in Enugu that also serves as swimming pool in rainy season

kel4soft: The title of this thread is misleading. The design of the monorail should elapse at Eleme Junction. So the Governor is actually saying he can't stretch it to waterlines where he was hoping his administration will stop end it because of funds. The statement actually meant that he will stop at UTC bus stop where the last columns are. Then the next administration can take over from there. It doesn't mean the train wont run. How is this a bombshell is what I expect the OP to educate me on. How can you convince anybody that that monorail will even go past mile one? Will they destroy the flyovers? How many more =N=150billion budgets will be needed if 150 billion was budgeted to get it to waterlines (which he has already admitted he wont be able to get to)? It is interesting that almost everyone else in the state (including market women) seemed to know he wouldn't be able to take it anywhere. He seems to be the last one knowing and acknowledging this. |

He did not just start a very useless project, but he is unable to complete the useless project I had been saying it that APC must be very unintelligent for them to soil themselves by jumping into a locked embrace with this man.I did not support APC but I wondered why they could not see how they were confidently smearing themselves with s*** in broad day light. Their association with Amaechi is one thing that made me disrespect them because I said to myself, " Can't they see? Or could they really be like him?" It was always unfortunate that great leaders like Fashiola had to be grouped in the same league as Rotimi Amaechi. But when we Rivers people tried to tell them, they did not listen to us. Come to think of it, they deserve the association. They have very well earned it~ South-south voice |

maestroferddi: I will confess that it is quite tasking to honour your simplistic blabbings with a rejoinder.
Take a look at major economies like China, Japan and even the US. Each country has a sizable chunk of foreign direct investment. How do you achieve economic prominence by getting stuck in the rut of exclusivity amidst the current realities of globalization? The attainment of high local content in the economy is not what you get by wishful thinking. There are technical and sundry considerations that must be taken into account. In any case, it is not as if the companies you enumerated are monopolies in their respect markets:the fact is that there are indigenous competitors vying for the market share. At the opportune moment, the vagaries we are witnessing at the moment would be equalised by the laws of demand and supply.
What is important is that the economy is undergoing serious organic and structural growth. I am very sure that we shall get there if we sustain the current momentum. Gradually, we are addressing our balances of trade and payment deficits by gaining sufficiency in such commodities like cement, rice and several agricultural products. Note that in the nearest, Nigeria will become a net exporter of rice.
You don't expect recession accumulated by decades of misrule and mismanagement to be righted by a wave of hand. Part of solving a problem is acknowledging the attendant constraints. Please, do not honour them. It is a dishonour to me |

maestroferddi: I am afraid you succeeded in making ZILCH sense.
Why would you muster the effrontery to trifle a serious issue with jejune rantings?
Just tell me why... I actually did not expect this to make any sense to you.I did not expect the fact that it is wrong that we are being financially colonized by our own making to make any sense to you. I did not expect it to make sense to you that it is our fault that in spite of having refineries we still export crude and buy back the refined products. I did not expect it to make sense to you that that does not make sense. I did not expect it to make any sense to you how it is our fault that all the oil money we have clamoured over, killed for, stolen and said we wanted more control over is only about half of what we produce. The other half is quietly pocketed by foreigners who know how to drill because the highly sophisticated people that we are are not yet able to drill our own oil.I did not expect it to make sense to you how it is wrong and our fault that almost all the beverages we buy in Nigeria are non-Nigerian. Cardbury is not Nigerian. Nestle is not Nigerian. I did not expect it to make sense to you that it is our failure that has made it such that utilities such as soap and detergents are mainly produced by foreigners here in Nigeria. Lever Brothers are not Nigerian. Ariel is not Nigerian. Klin is not Nigerian. I also did not expect it to make sense to you that we cannot blame anybody when companies like the DANA group silently dominate the market with plastic products ( DANA Plastics), drugs ( DANA pharmaceuticals), RICE and buiscuits ( DANA foods), cars ( DANA motors) and even DANA air while the young Nigerian dreams and hopes that he can just get employed in any of these companies. He is so excited that it is a big testimony for him. I did not expect it to make any sense to you that something has to be wrong with the owners of this country when foreigners keep trooping in everyday, establishing businesses and getting rich while we complain about an unenabling environment (as if these Indians and Lebanese were born here). I did not expect these and many more to make any sense to you because it would seem that when it comes to properly self-analyzing, with a view to making any real progress, you don't have any sense |

I am Nigerian but I have to say that Nigeria is one country where you unfortunately find the manifestation of a very successful marriage between great confidence and ignorance. Just imagine a proud allied general landing the beaches of Omaha on D-day, his armies armed with sticks, spears and clubs. Then he gives a loud Spartan-like roar.... "Charge!!!!!" Such is the disparity between the capacity for clear thinking/planning/execution and the show of pump amongst quick-to-puff-up Nigerians. Sadly, it is mostly Ibos ( Igbos) that portray us this way internationally (as they also make a nuisance of themselves locally). If Nigerians only knew the degree to which we have made ourselves look like retards - a close-to-zero capacity to organize. We are only slowly coming out of it and not out of a conscious effort at all. I will put up my facebook post to this effect later ~ South-South voice |

I am from Rivers State and I am not an Amaechi fan at all. I also personally do not mind where the next governor of Rivers State comes from within the state. It is just that we cannot stifle the state in another 8 years of unproductivity under Wike.
We have suffered enough under Odili, then under Amaechi. We cannot allow someone like these two take over again We will be done for (kind of for good).
16 years of retardation has to stop. We cannot extend it by another 8 years. That will mean 24 years in total. We cannot have that.
Nyesom Wike long assumed that respect and domineerism (I invented that word) within the party hierarchy translated into popular acceptability. Incidentally, that does not translate to public appeal within the populace.
Lust for power has nothing to do with leadership qualities. Even the devil lusts for power.
I love my state. That is why I do not support Amaechi, and that is why I cannot support Nyesom Wike either.
I believe I am not alone on this view.
