The fact NXT isn't referring to her as Mariah May means they are changing her name. It's similar to what they did with Ricky Starks when he debuted. It wasn't until he signed the contract live on air that they filed a trademark on his new name a day later .

Wrestling lost the huge boom it used to have in the 90s due folks finding out is fake, rise of reality shows and the ufc. However, folks continue to watch it as seem from profits from sponsorship , merchandise, ppv buys and TV deals. Go look at WWE expensive ticket prices since TKO acquired them. AEW also got a good TV deal from WB.

Isn't it the job of a commentator and the company overall to know a new member of their roster? especially one who was champion from a rival promotion.
That NXT show was run at the performance centre hence she debuted in front of the most smarkiest members of wwe fans. Nxt fans aren't casuals in the least, they are aware of everything that goes on in wrestling.

Raw and Smackdown tour around the country, their audience is mostly made up of casual fans and families. We've seen plenty of times when CM Punk refers to something in AEW and the audience at RAW stay quiet because they don't understand the reference.
Its also same reason why a wrestler like Michin or Pete Dunn come out to crickets sounds on the main roster but are heavily cheered and booed on NXT.

AEW tours like Raw and Smackdown but their product appeals more to smarks than casual fans. It's why they don't air vignettes on their new signings.They expect you to know them already.
The casual audience aren't on twitter or Internet forums browsing wrestling topics.
It's also why AEW TV ratings compares with NXT and not main roster as its mostly similar smark audience.

Just watched Mariah's debut and I must say I don't know which is worse - debuting Thekla and promoting her with an underwhelming and negative story of her, or - check this out - debuting Mariah May without a name!😂😂😂 The commentary team didn't even know what to call her. Are we supposed to call her Glamorous?😂😂 These companies are 'k*lling' me.😂 The reason people are not enjoying wrestling anymore, asides the realization that it's fake, is because they do things that don't make sense and they expect that we should overlook it because it's 'wrestling.' Are you going to tell a pro-wrestling enthusiast that? Geez. It's small, but it's a reflection of the entire business too. The good news is I was able to get a good laugh from it.
One more thing, the crowd, commentator and WWE social media seem to know her well. I thought they didn't watch AEW. Liars.

How should their fans know all their wrestlers? What if they are new or casual fans? Proper introduction is a must.

the belt might not matter that much, but the culture does. What happens in NXT happens on the main roster and it has an adverse effect, really. For a lot of fans, it's always about culture and tradition; I don't care about those. I only keep a culture if it makes sense. It's a new age, some things have to be done away with. This one is one of them. I can't stand Gunther losing the IC title to Sami at Mania and that suddenly promotes him to main event status? Where's the logic? You're not even good enough to remain a midcarder but somehow the main event is what suits you? Make it make sense. That's my peace.

Ehen now. Since the company that owns him has refused to promote their up coming match with him, even going as far as unprofessionally declaring a winner before the match, he has to promote it himself. Nice work.

you forgot one thing; nobody really cares about the developmental belts. The reason for developmental is preparation for the main roster. The belts at best sets a wrestler on the path to the main roster. It puts a stamp on you that you're ready, then you go ahead and lose it. That stamp goes away. The new talents can't be established in the dev brand because technically they're not yet talent. They are only taken seriously when they go up.
Again, if it worked for Austin and Asuka then it's something they should look into and do more. The coming wrestlers will be fine, but they shouldn't water down those going up. Logically speaking Jacy should be the one going to the main roster, after all she's just proved that she's better than Steph.

another thing I don't get is why they have to lose before they migrate. Why lose to a rookie when you're becoming a main roster person. Makes no sense. It simply means the rookie is still better than you. I'm still glad Austin didn't have to lose the IC belt before he went for the world title. One of wrestling's rules we still have to look into.

Cena don old, Roman is not active, Cody is still good but he's being rejected little by little, Rollins in more interested in gimmicks, AJ stepped back, Drew is injured, Punk is old and frail, Kenny is still recovering, Swerve has cooled a little, Joe is tough but aged, MJF talks a lot, Mox is annoying, Hangman is good, but I believe Ospreay is that much better. Where are my lies?
