Impulse2020:
Greetings every one,

I'm a medical aspirant,

I'm having some issues but I need you all opinion on this

This is my 3rd attempt (281) in UTME I'm from the South, Edo state

I'm having some issues in picking 2 University since they closer to me

University of Benin (Uniben) and Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma (AAU)

I would have chosen Uniben but the chances with my score for Medicine and Surgery are slim, I'm a student already in that school, 200L biochemistry... I chose this university twice

Now, I picked AAU in my form without true knowledge about the school fees, I found out the school fees is N165, 000 plus other charges, my admission is sure, as they don't write post ume and My chance of getting medicine is 90% due to my good Olevel grades

But the finances is a major issue. I'm raised by a Single mother, my dad is late. I discussed this with her but she doesn't even know what to say

I need your help please

AAU screening just commenced
You may want to consider University of Calabar. You have a good chance of getting MBBS,+you're from South, school fees is also okay

Joskiro50:
I'm a medical student of one of the North-Central Universities. Barely 3 weeks into the new semester, then came ASUU strike, followed by the lockdown.

Initially, I saw this as an opportunity to study and study and study. But as time went by, the student in me began to wither. Every effort to awaken my study zeal has proven abortive.

The stories from my immediate senior colleagues are quite different. They seem to be really studying hard. I'm not surprised because they have their second Professional Exam (MBBS) by the corner.

And judging by the way some of my coursemates pour "stuff" on the group chat, I'm convinced that most of them are also utilizing this break in studying. Meanwhile, I've been consoling myself that I'd still get to study when school finally resumes. I'm busy with other things most of the time.

So nairalanders, what are your experiences as regards studying at home?
Well,I don't know what level you are. If you were in 200L,I'd given you basic advice on how to get along with the Preclinical courses,a little dose of deceit to your mind, and you might be jacking your Gross for the whole night. If however you're in 100L well,I'd say you start with the very simple stuffs. Look at all you've got to study, look at how much you've studied, knowing what you have left, you can then set a minimum target for each day. I don't expect you to meet up with the target each day,but you have to make the effort to do something out of it daily. Just a little more effort, and the studying will come along. And don't forget, you're in medical school to become a doctor,to save lives in and out of season, whether there's strike or not,so you ought to study in and out of season. Study not just because of your exams, but study because someday, the life of that patient would be in your hands

manmade:
You may have seen many things are done in the name of science. The scientist worked hard in order to provide food for a growing world population or to provide medicine and cures for sickness and disease. And today we'll show you some of craziest hybrids made by scientists that will have you believe they don't truly exist.

Liger
It is the Combination between a male lion and a female tiger. They are usually larger and heavier than either of the parent species. The largest of these unique hybrid cats often grows to lengths of more than ten feet. And they can weigh up to a whopping 2,200 pounds.
Killer bees
These creatures were accidentally created by scientists who were trying to increase honey production. European species of honeybees were introduced to South America. But because of the heat the bees would not collect honey.

Cama
Cama is a hybrid animal created by crossbreeding a one humped camel from Asia with the South American llama. Despite the difference in shape and their size the camel and a llama are actually distant relatives and evolved from the same ancestor.

Super cows
The Belgian super cow is known as somewhat of a mutant breed of cattle. Its origins date back to the 1800s when Belgian scientists and farmers decided to breed native cattle with short horn cattle. Over time the breeders would select the biggest and strongest animals of each variety and breed them together.

Genpet
This isn't a real animal created by scientists. And is probably one of the greatest hoaxes in modern history. The marketing behind this shrink-wrap pet was so good that many people believed that they were real.

Sterile pink bollworm
The pink bollworm is a serious pest when it comes to cotton farming. Not only do the young larvae inflict damage to the cotton plant by their feeding they chew through the cotton lint to feed on the seeds. Since cotton is used for fiber and oil the damage is twofold.

Glow fish
Glow fish are a brand of genetically engineered fluorescent fish. The very first fish to hit the market was the zebrafish which come in a rainbow of colors including Starfire red electric green sunburst orange cosmic blue and galactic purple.

Zorse
This crazy-looking horse will make you do a double-take and exclaim why does that horse have stripes. The source is a result of crossbreeding of a male zebra and a female horse. It turns out that the zebra part gives the horse high resistance to certain pests and diseases.

Savannah
Many of you have probably seen this animal before because it is a favorite among celebrities. Savannah cats are spotted and is an animal that was bred to give the impression of grandeur and dignity of a wild cat with a cheetah or leopard like appearance.

See-through frog.
Have you ever imagined a frog that can be see through? Japanese scientists created frogs that their skin is see-through in their early lives. It means that there is no need to dissect frogs for medical research as you can see right through.

Enviropig
Enviropig was genetically engineered to produce up to less than 65% phosphorus through its urine and feces. The high phosphorus from their waste ends up in lakes rivers and ocean deltas. Where the high phosphorus wastes can cause outbursts of algae.

Tigon
This one has a tiger head a bit of a lion's body with a tiger's tail. Tigers usually have a body length of 8 to 9 feet. Between 1936 and 1938 both the London Zoo and the Manchester zoo had Tagans.

wholphin

Jaglion

See through goldfish.

Dolly the sheep

Alligator snapping turtle
These creatures are prehistoric and brutal looking. And it's no surprise that their behavior matches their appearance with their spiked shell bear like jaws and thick scale the dragon tail. Interestingly enough they are often referred to as the dinosaur of the turtle world

horpeyemmi66:

I had to introspect and think critically before attempting to answer your question.

To begin with, I'd say the pride which you speak of is an unchecked innate behavior an individual has, Medicine/Dental Surgery only further exemplifies it.

Some of the MBBS/BDS guys expect that people of the Basic Medical/Allied Sciences greet them first, some would see you and then pretend they are oblivious of your presence.

Even lecturers beef themselves on this matter, the preclinical lecturers with MBBS/BDS vs those without either of those degrees.

Now, I can almost say the Colleges/Faculties of Medicine also have a role to play in this "pride-thing".

Looking back in retrospect whilst studying Physiology, there have been instances when we had to part with our classes when the Medicine/Dental Surgery guys needed to have Physiology practicals.

Even 400L Physiology guys had to sometimes excuse 200L Medicine/Dental Surgery students.

The Lab attendants that dressed shabbily without ties when attending Physiology students practicals would be seen all kitted up and all present for Practicals with the Medicine/Dental Surgery guys.

During Anatomy dissections in 200L, Physiology Students, some 50+ students, were given just one cadaver. As compared with Medicine/Dental Surgery that have 4 Students per body.

Looking back now, it's funny, really. I remember some guys then standing on stools just to see whatever it is the person dissecting was doing.

Some dudes just fiddled with their phones the whole period, some wandered around the dissecting room staring at different bodies and sometimes picking out organs and returning them. Some didn't even show up at all; what's the point anyways?

Sometimes the Medicine/ Dental Surgery guys had dissection sessions that's occuring simultaneously with Physiology Students.

You see some of them looking over at where 50+ students were hovering over one cadaver with a smirk on their faces. It was sad in a way. A lecturer even told us we were lucky to have a body to dissect.

I remember one instance very vividly when we were about starting a dissection session, a Anatomy lecturer/Dental Surgeon, rushed in and was like, "Please leave the hall, Medical students have Viva now", with a dismissive tone to it. The woman didn't even care what we thought about what she said.

Similarly, a colleague narrated an experience to me when he went to the Faculty Building at UCH to rectify some issues, he must have mistakenly taken the elevator to the Clinical courses floor. He said he wandered around those corridors looking for the particular office where he had to submit a certain document.

At some point, a man came out from one of the offices and asked him what he wanted and what his department was. On hearing Physiology, he said the man's countenance changed and he told this my colleague in a frantic voice, "Go down!, go down!, you have no business here!"

At Zaria during my clearance, students of various departments gathered in front of a certain office for clearance. At one time, the lecturer-in-charge, came out and said something like, "MBBS and BDS should form a single line here, others should leave this area". He said it in a way like he doesn't give a Bleep about them, I felt bad in a way.

At another time, the same man felt I was trying to gain an unfair advantage by jumping the queue, the guy said to me, "Go to the end of the queue, you are trying to jump the queue, these are your colleagues, they are all smart people too."

So you see, it's not really the fault of some Medicine/Dental Surgery students that walk around with a chip on their shoulders.

On your assumption that Consultants are proud, I know a consultant who hugs and plays with cleaners...

Again, that consultants brag about how much they earn, who does that help?? The Max a Consultant can earn in Nigeria is about NGN800,000 per Month, which is a joke as compared with what their colleagues in other countries earn. If they are to brag about their earnings it should be with other consultants not with Medical students/House Officers/Registrars.

As regards NMA vs JOHESU, I was having a laugh about the matter a couple of weeks back with a friend of mine who studies Medical Lab Science.

I asked what the problem was between Medical Lab Scientists and Pathologists, he said, "Pathologists always want to dominate the Lab while the scientists also want to retain their territory". He further explained to me that Scientists do most of the slide preparations etc, sometimes it takes weeks for complicated tests.

When the results are available, a Pathologists just saunters in from somewhere to diagnose and sign. Perhaps there is another angle to this issue, I can't really say. (https://www.nigerianmedlabscientist.com.ng/2019/09/ucth-medical-lab-scientists-and-doctors.html?m=1)

However, as regards JOHESU guys becoming consultants, I will remain apathetic. JOHESU guys haven't been appointed consultants yet, there was the case of a Dental Therapist administering anaesthesia in the absence of a Doctor (https://www.google.com/amp/s/thenationonlineng.net/dental-therapist-kills-undergraduate-in-gombe/amp/), one can only imagine what would happen if they are ever appointed consultants.

Even more ludicrous the case of Nurses who are not in academia having Ph.Ds. The average patient would be confused by a pronouncement such as, "I am Doctor Adetiba, I will be your attending Nurse for the duration of your Surgery". (https://nurse.org/articles/doctoral-prepared-DNP-nurses-use-title-doctor/)

In essence, the patient should remain the revolving point of every medical discipline. Not like the cases we now hear of Hospitals/Labs becoming battle fields for professionals with bloated egos.

On a final note, I leave you with this quote by Martin Luther King Jr.,

"If a man is called to be a Street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, 'Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well."

To Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, grammar without action is but entertainment, preaching without practicing what you preached is but greed, a philosophy he anchored on, to propagate the gospel of our lord Jesus Christ.
He is an ardent advocate of the return of Christianity doctrines to the old time religion, a belief that propelled him into the donation of a modern free specialist Hospital in Port Harcourt. The aim is to respond to the need of the less privileged and vulnerable members of the society, who could not afford to remedy their hospital bill during delivery or even attained to antenatal care services. The hospital is non discriminatory, irrespective of religion, denomination or tribe.

The situation is not different, as Mrs Saratu Musa, a Muslim faithfuls from Yobe State but reside at Rumukrusi, Port Harcourt in company of her husband in October 18th 2019 visited the hospital during her 7 weeks gestation period to be registered for free antenatal care.

The good news now is that, Mrs Musa on 26th May 2020 delivered safely a baby girl in OPM free specialist Hospital. Mrs Musa who believed God is one, no matter who you are and where you come from always participate in the daily antenatal morning devotion.

Everything that has to do with antenatal or baby care during delivery were all provided for her by the Church, this is not excluding her daily three square meals for the period she remains in the hospital, courtesy of the members and non members tithes and offerings

na wa oo. nothing person no go c 4 nairaland. And why do you have to tell us that Christan hospital is treating Muslim for free. How about the many Muslims treating Christians for free. But wait oo, didn't your Christianity teach you that all men are equal before God. When do we have to start doing good to the other because they are Christians or Muslims. My brothers at Law, have you not noticed that where there is a wrong, there is hue and cry? And have you not seen that it is the Law, that when there is a wrong, bickering must follow?

Many things about Law have been hidden from lawyers.

The Law is Always and Absolute about Good, Right, Balance and Everything Good. The Law quenches all Wrongs, Not Goods, Bad's and Evils.

The reason for the hue and cry is because of the imbalance of the decision of the school in expelling the students.

The school had a right to terminate the relationship with them and the students but what should have been advocated for was for the students to have been withdrawn.

Injustice and wrong of the school's decision lies in the giving of justice in excess of the grievance it has with the students for by their action, they destroyed and punished both the past and future of the students with one swoop in the play of punishing the students.

This is not double jeopardy but triple jeopardy, an overkill!

I am not interested in this moral considerations you are advancing here. I may have to do another post on that but for now, it is the legality or otherwise of the university's action.

The law may be harsh but it still remains the law.

Your arguments won't hold weight in a court of law.

If you had read the ruling on Esiaga vs Unical and Garba vs unimaid
You would know
1 she was outrightly expelled denying her right to fair hearing whereas in the Esiaga vs Unical case he was suspended.
A cardinal principle of this doctrine of fair hearing is that the judge, tribunal or panel must be free from bias. In the case of Okoduwa V. State the Supreme Court described fair hearing in the following languages; “Fair hearing incorporates a trial done in accordance with the rule of natural justice and Natural Justice carries with it the implication that justice should not only be done but must be seen done"
Was this the case section36 subsection 1,2
2 the video was recorded for private viewing which she is at liberty to do see section 35, 36 sub section 8, see also section 37
3 She had committed no crime by law, nothing incriminating was found on her but rather was a primary victims of sexual assault. Their is no legal backup or grounds for any disciplinary action section 36 subsection 12 underline the word defined there.
4 on association with an expelled student see section 40

Forgive my disorganized writing but if I put time to this case I would drain that school like a rat that was electrocuted.
P.s I'm not a lawyer

I think you missed the point.

The issue is not that she had sex and videotaped it. It is that the video became public knowledge and has caused odium and disrepute to the university

THE EXPULSION OF MIA KHALIFA BY THE AUTHORITIES OF BABCOCK UNIVERSITY: X-RAYING THE LEGALITY THEREOF.

By Isajini Amos.

The media, like flies that feasts on decaying substances has feasted to its full on the alleged #SEXVIDEO of two students of Babcock university. According to a statement by its Director of Communications, Joshua Suleiman, the young man was also a student before his expulsion in February this year following activities, that were considered anti the values of the christian based institution.

A lot of questions and comments flowing from divergences in emotions have been aroused by this issue. However, I am not writing to sympathize with the victims herein or to share sentiments with anyone. The fulcrum of my ink is to diagnose the Constitutional Legality of the said expulsion.

That a young man and a lady were videotaped having sex is not in dispute.

That the said parties were identified by the authorities of Babcock University as its students is also not in issue.

That the video was in fact done by the victims is not in doubt as a close look so reveals.

What I think is in issue is whether the expulsion was proper ?

The need to respect and jealously protect the sanctity of the sacred rights of students is not in issue. This is so even when such a student is alleged to have been liable for some misconducts. This position was firmly affirmed in the celebrated case of Garba v. University of Maiduguri (1986) ANLR 149. Particularly at pages 172 of the Judgment, Obaseki, JCS had this to say on the value of a university student to the nation :

"A university student is a priceless asset and he is on the threshold of useful service to the nation...."

I cannot agree less with the revered judicial demon on this point. However, the right of a university student to be protected from the whims and caprices of maladministration, is coextensive with a duty upon him/her to be of noble and good behaviour. A university student owes a duty of care to protect the image and reputation of his institution even after graduation. Where he or she acts otherwise, it is only righteous, that the disciplinary machinery of such institution be called in aid.

A university, we must not forget is a being that lives. It has hands and legs. It has a dignity, a reputation and a business interest that must be protected. Where as in the instant case, the activities of a student brings odium, shame and disrepute to her, she can rightly exercise its powers appropriately under the circumstances.

Every institution, in addition to its express powers, has implied powers to act where necessary. Apart from being a citadel of learning, a university is also a custodian of morals just as the English court in the notable case of Shaw v. DPP affirmed its responsibility to protect societal morals.

Viscount Simonds had this to say :

"In the sphere of criminal law I entertain no doubt that there remains in the Courts of Law a residual power to enforce the supreme and fundamental purpose of the law, to conserve not only the safety and order but also the moral welfare of the State, and that it is their duty to guard it against attacks which may be the more insidious because they are novel and unprepared for. That is the broad head (call it public policy if you wish) within which the present indictment falls. It matters little what label is given to the offending act. To one of your Lordships it may appear an affront to public decency, to another considering that it may succeed in its obvious intention of provoking libidinous desires, it will seem a corruption of public morals. Yet others may deem it aptly described as the creation of a public mischief or the undermining of moral conduct. The same act will not in all ages be regarded in the same way. The law must be related to the changing standards of life, not yielding to every shifting impulse of the popular will but having regard to fundamental
assessments of human values and the purposes of society."

I dare say, that there remain in a university a residual power to conserve not only the safety and order but also the moral welfare of the university and the society at large.

Furthermore, it has been argued by some fellows, that the victims were not given fair hearing. This is a misguided conclusion as due procedure was followed before the said expulsion was decreed as the following statement from the institution's director of Communication discloses :

"His girlfriend in the same video, until the video broke out, [was] a third-year student of accounting of this university. After due process, she was expelled from the university for violation of university rules and regulations,”.

However, assuming but not conceding, that the victim was not heard, the position would still not be different. What fair hearing should be required from circumstances that speaks for itself ? An argument of lack of fair hearing will not find shelter under the case of Garba v. University of Agriculture. The courts have cautioned in the case of Esiaga v. University of Calabar on the need to be cautious in hiding every claim of this nature under Garba's case. A university cannot fold his hands in the face of an activity of a student that threatens its very essence. On this point, the court in Esiaga's case had this to say :

"Are we now to understand that a University should be incapable of enforcing ultimate and extreme disciplinary measures of expulsions where the facts and circumstances of the case demand that it so acts? The celebrated case of Garba v University of Maiduguri (supra) is not intended to be a court given licence and judicial umbrella to provide students of unbridled, recalcitrant and impetuous behaviour in the University system who have no sense of ethics and acceptable level of decency in a civilised society to cause ruination to the education institution by their uncouth and display of primitive characterisations. No it is not. It is equally not intended to tie the hands of the College Authority and debar it from making an effort temporarily to arrest a perceiving evil that is seen rearing its head which if not nipped in the bud might conceivably raise again".

On the strength of the arguments canvassed above, I submit with the greatest legalistic respect, that the expulsion of miss Mia Khalifa for her misconduct is legal and proper. I hold further, that the decision is right because :

#Jurisprudentially, it is in line with the postulation of the Naturalist and Utilitarian schools of thought.

#Legally, the courts in their judicial foresight laid down guidelines in cases such as this.

#Spiritually, it is in line with unseen eternal laws ordering the affairs of men.

#Biblically, the eternal book of moral conducts affirms this as it enjoins parents in to spare not the rod that spoils a child.

#Psychologically, it will help to restore mental confidence in the minds of parents who have their wards in the institution.

This is my humble view.

Please I would like to be educated about the undergraduate admissions process for foreign students intending to study MBBS in the US or UK
Registrations and all of that
Any advice would be appreciated...

If there is any other thread for topics like this I would also like to be informed
If you need intend to study MBBS in the US or UK,you should first have the money... plenty of it...
Then you can start the register for SAT, take the exam, get a good score which will help you secure an admission into pre-med in the US, it's after pre-med you enter into MEDSCHOOL proper.
In the case of the UK,I think you have to register for the GCSE,get a good score and apply for admission in a UK University...
This should help a little,I hope...

Hello. Thanks for the good work you are doing so far. Please i tried applying for the scholarship and i was requested to provide a school ID on scholastica before proceeding. I'm in 100 level and we have not been given a school ID yet. What i have is a temporary ID slip given to me at MIS that will be used to collect the original. What can i do?
Are you a UIite?

Hello!
I have made lots of research, contacted many awardees and have a compilation of study materials for dragnet exam.

I don't call them past questions because after the transition to CBT. Actual past questions are no longer accessible
It's study materials for Agbami
Dragnet exams are usually in 3
Numerical, verbal and abstract reasoning
But Agbami, Chevron(now handled by ORM) use only 2(numerical and verbal)
But Agip uses the 3 (numerical, verbal and abstract)
