The Kaduna State Government and the Igbo community leaders yesterday condemned reports of an attack on the Igbos relocating to eastern states following the October 1 ultimatum given by northern youths. The government officials, top security personnel and Igbo leaders in the state, while addressing journalists, debunked inciting pictures and audio messages circulating in the state on how several Igbos retuning to the Southeast were allegedly ambushed in a luxurious bus conveying them. The Senior Assistance on Media and Publicity to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Samuel Aruwan, and Igbo leaders, led by the President of Igbo Community Welfare Association, Chief Chris Nnoli, quickly moved to avert the consequences the unverified report could generate. Aruwan said: “The attention of Kaduna State Government has been drawn to an inciting picture and audio message stating that some Igbos relocating to eastern Nigeria were ambushed and killed in Kaduna State. “The man behind the mischievous narrative, who also claimed to be at the scene, went on to lie that the attackers slaughtered Igbos, including women and children, and that their corpses were burnt along with the luxurious bus. “The so-called eyewitness then appealed to all Igbos residing in Kaduna and the rest of the North to relocate to their states of origin and to also avoid travelling en-masse, considering mass killings that await them in the north. “It is clear that some dark forces are bent on sowing and creating panic in our communities.”On the stand of the state government, Aruwan said: “As you can see, we are here with the leadership of the Igbo community in Kaduna, Zaria, Kafanchan and other places. “The story is entirely false and mischievous. The Igbo community is safe, like all our communities. Nobody is being attacked and nobody is relocating in fear. “The Kaduna State Government under the leadership of El-Rufai will continue to uphold and defend the rights of every resident of the state to live in peace. Our state is a safe place for all that choose to call it home.” Besides, Nnoli urged all Igbos resident in the state to disregard the rumour, assuring that no Igbo man, woman or children were attacked in the state. He called on Igbo community in the state not to panic, urging them to go about their legitimate activities in Kaduna State. Meanwhile, members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) have said unknown gunmen have attacked and amputated a Fulani herdsman, thereby threatening the fragile peace in the area. Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, yesterday, state Chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Haruna Usman Tugga, said the attack was a setback to the prevailing peace in the area.Tugga gave the name of the amputee as Abubakar Muhammed, who he noted was migrating from Panda village in Nasarawa State to Kachia in Southern Kaduna when he was attacked by youths from Maho village under Mazuga district. He stated: “They attacked him along a migratory stock route for reasons best known to the attackers and amputated his left hand and left him bleeding in a pool of his blood. “He was picked by a Good Samaritan to a private hospital in Kachia town, where he is presently receiving medical attention. “We condemn this inhuman and barbaric act. We are also calling on our people to be calm and law- abiding. We call on the security agencies to investigate the matter and apprehend the attackers.” As part of efforts to promote religious harmony and peaceful coexistence in the state, the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Church on Lemu road, Kaduna, has distributed food items to Muslims within their host community in Tudun Nupawa in the spirit of the Ramadan season. Rev. Jonathan Emmanuel, while making the distribution, said it has always been annual and is normally carried out during the Ramadan period to assist Muslim faithful during their fast.“This is our way of showing love to our neighbours during this period of fasting. We hope to sustain it on a yearly basis, God willing. “What we are distributing to them may be small, but it is a show of our togetherness and love and as a way of fostering religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.” Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the village head of Tudun Nupawa, Alhaji Shuaibu Balarabe Abdullahi, commended the church for annually remembering them, particularly during the Ramadan fast, with food items. He prayed God to bless the church and assured them of an enabling environment for them to worship their God now and always without any form of molestation from anybody or group. http://guardian.ng/news/kaduna-government-igbo-leaders-dismiss-rumour-of-attack-killings/

Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), the umbrella body of all political parties in the country, has appealed to Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State to complete projects abandoned by previous administrations. Chairman of IPAC in the state, Mr John Nwobodo, made the call on Friday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu. Nwobodo said that the abandoned projects, which included the International Conference Centre, started by former Gov. Chimaroke Nnamani’s administration should be given attention. “Their completion will boost the state’s economic fortune and resuscitate the positive ideas behind them,’’ he said. He assured of IPAC’s cooperation to ensure that the present administration in the state succeeded, adding that its members were open to collaboration with the government as such would promote more inclusiveness. Nwobodo lauded the milestone achievements of the governor so far, saying “Gov. Ugwuanyi has robustly delivered effective governance notwithstanding the meagre resources accruable to the state’’. He expressed the group’s commitment to a new political culture of tolerance and accommodation in the state. “We are placing the state above personal or party interest because first of all, we are all indigenes of Enugu State before we joined these political parties,’’ he said. How I wish Igbos would go home...Stop investing anywhere except in Eastern land...My family did the same as far back as 2003. Growing up, we thought Nigeria was one...until we started seeing the contrary. My father had a 40 room property in the Kaduna... for students...This was sold at a loss in 2003, when we started seeing didfferent things...Now all our investments are in the East...Creating opportunities for our fellow Igbos...Igbos please go home...Stop developing other regions...Instead of being praised for these, you are being made a laughing stock by the Yorubas and Hausas... Stop...even in Lagos...All those estates they are advertising in Ibeju Lekki villages...Please stop let the Yorubas buy and develop them...there are equally many estates on offer in the East... If there is life there is hope...PLEASE GO HOME! |

Yoruba Youths Have Lost Influence, Respect Of Nigerians Author: Katherine Baffour UPDATED: A YEAR AGO VIEWS: 2601 SHARE ON FACEBOOK SEND VIA EMAIL SHARE ON FACEBOOK SEND VIA EMAIL Writing for Naij.com from Magodo, Lagos, Maxwell Adeyemi Adeleye says the Yoruba youths are no longer making their valuable contributions to the political and cultural life in Nigeria. What can the Yoruba people do to restore lost influence? Lateef Raji, a public policy analyst, in an article titled Consequently, as a concerned Nigerian, I want to question the role(s) of Yoruba youths in the current fight against unemployment, starvation and poverty in Nigeria. This question was necessitated by my discovery through indirect observations that Yoruba youths are the most lazy, perfidious and egoistic youths in Nigeria as at today. I discovered that the pride of an average Yoruba youth has overshadowed his intellectual judiciousness, level-headedness and sagacity. Today, among ten Nigerians submitting their resumes to multinational corporations eight would be Yorubas. Folks from my generation in the Western Nigeria are too lazy to tap from the abundant opportunities that litter the streets of, say, Lagos, for primitive accumulation of wealth. The Igbos, and, by extension, the Niger-Deltans and the Northerners have indirectly taken over the control of economy of Lagos, Nigeria’s indisputable number one centre of success, excellence and opportunities. The Apapa wharf in Lagos has virtually been taken over by the Easterners. The data that I got from the Nigerian custom services divulges that 63% of those licensed to transact businesses in Apapa Wharf are Igbos. More so, data collected from licensing office reveals that owners of 56% of commercial motorcycles in Lagos are Northerners and Easterners. The lucrative transport business has been hijacked from the Yorubas. Today, the major work of average Yoruba youths on the streets of Lagos is to collect royalty, due and charges from the Hausas and Igbos, using their motorcycles to make cool cash from their land. Ninety-five percent of transport, travel and tour firms operating in Lagos are owned by the enterprising and hardworking Easterners. The Yorubas stay at various intersections harassing hardworking people transacting their legal businesses in the name of collecting charges and dues for the local government. I also discovered that majority of the few Yorubas riding commercial motorcycles in Lagos are locally-trained automobile engineers that have abandoned their workshops. Furthermore, the popular Ladipo and Owode motor spare parts markets in Lagos are now solidly in the hands of Igbos. As usual, the Yoruba youths are in the market collecting dues for their local government chairmen and the Iyaloja General of Lagos. Yaba, Oyigbo, Sabo, Oshodi, Agege, Alaba, Idumota, etc. markets have been taken over by the Easterners and Northerners who are predominantly youths. Let me also assert unequivocally that the Igbo youths are now becoming more prosperous in the entertainment industry than the Yoruba youths. Today, the Yorubas hardly tune their DSTVs to the Yoruba movie channel of the satellite television; rather, they watch some other movie channel that show English movies with actors and actresses of Igbo extraction. Why? Because most Yoruba movies are short of creativity. I can also articulate that 85% of the CEOs and executive directors of commercial banks operating in Nigeria today are Igbos and Hausas under the age of 50. They are very talented in boardroom politics, unlike their Yoruba counterparts, and they assist each other with an amazing ease.[/b] Educationally, the Yorubas are no longer in the top-three. According to the National Universities Commission (NUC), Anambra, Imo and Enugu have the highest number of professors and doctorate degree holders in Nigeria. Ekiti and Ondo states that used to top the list have been demoted to number four and six respectively. In 2014, the reports of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) revealed that the Yorubas have been upturned by the Easterners in terms of academic performance. Ekiti, a state known as fountain of knowledge, was number 34 in 2013. The Yorubas are also missing in the sports sector. The Golden Eaglets, Flying Eagles, Super Eagles, Flamingoes, Falconets, Super Falcons, D'Tigers, other national teams are dominated by the Igbos and Hausas. The team that won the African Cup of Nations for Nigeria in 2013 was tagged Biafran national team by some columnists and social commentators, including myself. Politically, the Igbos and Hausas are more united than the Yorubas. The result of the 2015 presidential election is a point of reference. The Hausas voted massively for General Buhari of the APC, while the Igbos extraordinarily voted for Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP. Sadly, the Yorubas had no bearing during the election. Jonathan’s inner circle members are currently blaming the Yorubas for their son's expected defeat. Victorious Buhari's teammates are reportedly saying that the Yorubas contributed little or nothing to the success of their kinsman. In conclusion, I want to impel my generation in the Western part of Nigeria to wake up and begin to act. The nation of Nigeria that I am seeing today is hemorrhaging. I suggest we put ourselves in strategic positions. The bitter truth is that our leaders only think for themselves and their children. and this nice one...any news....? By Dennis Agbo, Enugu Those who witnessed the ground-breaking ceremony of the Enugu Free Trade Zone, ENPOWER FTZ, last week, were impressed with the turnout of dignitaries and the motivation of the citizenry towards actualizing an economic hub in South east Nigeria even as the state government is also planning another industrial park in Enugu which will be the biggest foreign investment south of the Sahara, propelled by a Chinese private investment. Saturday Vanguard gathered that after a careful survey of economic activities in Africa, a Chinese group known as GoalMark group, traced most of the Sino-Nigerian trading activities to the people of South East, Nigeria and decided to set up an industrial park in Enugu state. The public-private sector imitative is a project between the state government and the prospective investor – Goalmark group of Beijing- China through the coordination of a Nigerian company- Superjet Industrial Company Limited based in Enugu. Gains of investment During the signing ceremony of the MoU, GoldMark group’s delegation from China led by one Mr.Lin Feng said “the company decided to go ahead with the project after a careful study from which we confirmed Enugu as a suitable place for it. The project which will cost billions of dollars to complete will bring massive investments to Enugu from all over the world and ensure the tremendous improvement of the economy of the state and environs. Most Chinese companies shipping goods to Africa will move down to Enugu and set up base within the industrial park from where they will distribute or export to other African countries.” Going by the proposed investment, the Industrial park is to comprise investments in such major areas as coal mining, power generation from coal and water treatment plants as well as cassava and rice processing concerns. The Industrial park is made up of various zones such as a Residential zone that would warehouse a well serviced residential estates with over 20,000 housing units comprising of flats in high rise apartments of 35 floors each and duplexes; a Free Trade Zone; a Commercial Zone covering a modern 500 shops wholesale, warehouses, shopping complex, malls, bus terminals, sports recreational facilities, office spaces on several high rise buildings, hotels and more; an Industrial zone designed to accommodate light, medium and heavy industrial complexes with a capacity to host over 250 industries and the industries will be provided with state of the art environment for indigenous and foreign industrialists. It will also accommodate an Agricultural zone, a large area covering over 700 hectares of land for modern and high yield crop and live stock production complete with modern abattoirs and produce market that will also serve as a training environment for local farmers; There will also be power infrastructures providing 24 hours power for both the residents and industries from a 300 mw thermal power plant powered by coal. Also included in the plan is for an establishment of a specialized school for training of manpower to handle the various investments that the park will be attracting. Ugwuanyi’s foresight Governor Ugwuanyi had since May this year developed road to the site through Nchatach-Nike including other communities of Oruku, Akpuoga-Nike, Owo and Amechi-Idodo. The Governor severally went to the host communities to resolve the issue of the 2, 632 hectares land acquisition for the project. The President General of Nchatacha community, Chief Fredrick Edeh, confirmed to Vanguard on Ugwuanyi’s effort at reaching amicable resolution with the host communities which brought about an access road developed to the site of the project. The General Manager of the facilitating private investor company, Superjet, Mr. Emeka Ugwu, who was at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Enugu Free Trade Zone, said that the ENPOWER FTZ would not affect the proposed Enugu Industrial park but would rather complement each other. He stated that the Chinese decided to set up the industrial park because of the interest of the people of the south east in industrialization. “It is a real estate development designed to gather critical infrastructure in one locality so that the aggregated infrastructure becomes cheaper. The choice of Enugu “It’s like a new city to contain 250 factories and will also house residential estates. The choice of Enugu for the location is because the state is strategically located for access by 26 out of 36 states within 24 hours and the state hosts an international airport. We have acquired the mining lease for coal which will be used to fire the power for the industrial park. Our social responsibility includes scholarships, employment, trainings and will take care of host communities and government will take care of revenue generation through personal income tax. In the next 6 to 8 years everything will take shape,” disclosed Ugwu. It was based on the unprecedented industrial revolution and economic activities coming in the state that Governor Ugwuanyi requested from the Federal government to commence construction of a second runway at the Akanu Ibiam International airport. He stated that the establishment of the Free Trade Zone has created an urgent need for the construction of a second runway at the airport in order to accommodate the expected increase in air traffic. “We therefore invite the Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, to present to us, a plan for this project and we affirm the availability of land required for its actualization. We further appeal to the Federal Government to ensure that the Airport meets with all internationally accepted standards especially by extending and resurfacing the existing runway and installing or building facilities that would improve night operations and accommodate heavier aircrafts that are normally used for international and intercontinental travels. |

and this one.... ![]() A US-based renewable energy power firm, Motir DuSable Power Investment Limited, is to build 300MW solar plant in Enugu State. The first phase of the project, estimated at about $200million will inject 100mega watts of power into the national grid, which will subsequently be increased to 200MW in the second phase. The drivers of the project which is a joint venture between two US-based power firms have already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government of Nigeria to site the project in Enugu State with the goal of making the state the hub for renewable energy generation in sub-Sahara Africa. The chairman of the firm, Mr. Emmanuel Irono, on Tuesday, made a presentation of the company’s planned take-off of the project during a performance review retreat of the Enugu State Executive Council holding at Nike Lake hotel, with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in attendance. According to Irono, chairman of Motir DuSable Power Investment Limited, “We have a joint venture that would enable us to bring this project to Nigeria and we are licensed and have gone through all the processes and procedure in terms of the power purchasing. Also, we have an alliance that can help us go through the various segments necessary for this project to be successful.” “So, today is the first day that we are meeting with the governor and his executive council members right here in Enugu and we are very pleased that it turned out a positive meeting”, he explained. He further stated that the project comes in phases, adding that the first phase will cost about $200m while another phase that will come thereafter would also cost 200m dollars. “Depending on the capacity we can do as they allow us but our partners are willing to consummate the project.” On the gains of the gigantic project, he said: “Our intention is to be able to bring more jobs, more opportunities, more innovations to Enugu State and to Nigeria. We believe that this will be a fantastic project for job creation and a mission critical for the Federal Government of Nigeria and Enugu State. “This is because we can empower Enugu State people to have access to power. If everybody wins, it becomes a win-win situation for all of us. “The state will be a collaborating partner in terms of making sure that our investment is safe and that the money we are bringing in is safe. They are not a financial partner. So the money we are bringing in is hundred percent to enable us fund this project.” Commending the governor for his warm reception and frankness, he said the fact that the governor invited them to the open floor to talk about the project was ‘simply amazing’, noting that this was despite having not met him before. Speaking earlier while declaring the 3-day performance retreat for members of Enugu State Executive Council open, Governor Ugwuanyi commended the development partners in the state for their successful contribution towards the actualisation of his administration’s reform agenda. The governor noted that the retreat was in line with his pledge made during his inaugural speech in 2015 to give the people a new lease of life with regard to good governance, enhanced social services, rural development, improved security, justice, among others. |
Does anybody know what is happening to this investment in Enugu...There are many projects not followed up... Ibeto Cement, a major cement importer, has signed a contract with a Chinese firm, Sinoma International Engineering, to build a $386 million cement plant in Enugu State. The cement plant will have an installed capacity of 2.2 million metric tonnes of cement per year and would be completed in 30 months, according to a statement posted on the website of the Chinese firm today. In June, the Central Bank of Nigeria announced the restriction of foreign exchange for the importation of certain goods, including cement. This measure, perhaps, forced Ibeto Cement to ramp up its local production. In 2012, Ibeto Cement acquired majority shares in Nigeria Cement Company, a comatose cement-manufacturing firm located in Ebonyi State. But the state government shut down the plant, claiming that Ibeto Cement used the plant to acquire import licenses instead of resuscitating the plant. With Ibeto’s new plant, Nigeria’s installed capacity is expected to rise above 40 million metric tonnes per year, far beyond the local annual consumption of over 20 million metric tonnes. Many cement plants in Nigeria operate below their installed capacities as a result of the rampant importation of cheap cement mainly from China, inadequate gas supplies to power cement plants and high haulage costs. In September, Dangote Cement slashed its cement prices in an attempt to boost local consumption and compete with cheap imports. This move led to an industry-wide lowering of cement prices by cement companies to maintain market share. The cement industry in Nigeria is dominated by four companies: Dangote Cement, the market leader, Lafarge Africa, BUA Cement and Flour Mills of Nigeria. Nigeria’s cement industry has benefited from the federal government’s backward integration policy, which was initiated in 2002 to encourage local production of cement. Since that time, more than $6 billion in capital projects have been launched. With the Ibeto Cement deal, Sinoma Engineering has become a Chinese contractor of choice for most Nigerian cement companies. In August, Dangote Cement signed a $4.34 billion deal with the Chinese firm to build cement plants in 10 African countries and Nepal. In September, BUA Cement signed a $600 million deal to double the capacity of its cement plant in Obu, Edo State . |

What is the way out? There had been discussion right from the beginning of British rule to the end of end of 1914. I participated in the last national conference organised by former President Goodlluck Jonathan and the outcome was a flaw. What the then government did not get during the sitting of the delegates to the conference, they resorted to cooking them in the outcome of the conference bill and they are now calling it a restructured bill for the country to adopt and accept. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This man will claim he is intelligent...I thought he was going to tell the way out? |
