Firgemachar:North ready for Nigeria’s breakup –Prof. Ango Abdullahi, Northern Elders’ spokesman — 5th February 2017 Is the North really ready for dissolution? Absolutely, absolutely, we are. It all depends on the selfish way people want to negotiate. I am 78 now and I also went to the only university in the country at the time in Ibadan. Nobody can tell me about the history of this country. I know a lot about it because I was very much awake and a grown up person to know what happened. The people who argued for the creation of states in 1966/67 are the same people today who are asking for the restructuring of Nigeria with particular preference for regional arrangements. Why is the North ready for dissolution? What are the indices? The biggest indices other Nigerians do not want Nigeria; so I don’t see why the North should insist on having Nigeria. That is the biggest index I have. And this is on the basis of the recent statements. The Nigerian elite are the ones undermining the existence of the country and as long as they remain in the fore-front as elite and politicians, so long as we are going to have problems, so long will Nigeria not have the rapid development that we had hoped to when we got independence in 1960. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unity beggar...Can you see what your masters are saying....You have not still revealled why you guys are stuck with tis One Nigeria till, when all have agreed it is not working. |
For where? Dissolve this huge joke called Nigeria and you will you see development in the Niger area called Nigeria. With separate country, these projects will be completed. The new country will seek foreign loans to do these projects...staying together will only increase suffering... |
HE ground-breaking ceremony of the second bridge across river Niger between Asaba (Delta State) and Onitsha (Anambra State) was performed by former President Goodluck Jonathan on March 10, 2014, with fanfare, which attracted the presence of prominent citizens of eastern Nigeria and Delta. However, the project is abandoned by the present administration, although there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel following the visit of the senate committee on works to Delta and Anambra states and to the site of the bridge recently. Awarded to Julius Berger at a cost of N117.8 billion including VAT sourced from the coffers of subsidy reinvestment programme (SURE-P), construction commenced immediately as there was a beehive of activities at the construction site at Oko and it was suddenly abandoned. The total width of the dual carriage bridge is 35.3m consisting of 16.05m wide 3- lane carriage way in each direction and 3,03m central reverse. The bridge, which is 1590 metres in length is being located I.7km down stream of the existing one. According to its prototype, the dualised road leading to the bridge veers off from the Benin-Asaba expressway at a point before the Asaba International Airport, crossing through Ibusa road and straight to Amakon-Oko community on the Niger. At the Anambra end, the link road continues to Atani joining the Onitsha-Owerri express way and beyond to Onitsha-Enugu express road. The new bridge and the connecting roads are expected to enhance the capacity of the South-East-South-West transport corridor and provide significant economy. Similarly, the dualisation of Sapele-Agbor -Ewu road, which was flagged off on March 25, 2015 by the then Minister of Works Arch Mike Onolememen, has been abandoned by the federal government. There were two sections; the first one covers Sapele-Agbor in Delta while the other covers Agbor-Ewu in Edo at a total cost N112.8 billion. The then minister performed the flag off for the section one in Sapele, Delta State and later performed that of section two at Igueben in Edo. Following the deplorable state of the road, the Delta state government decided to rehabilitate Agbor-Abraka-Eku axes of section one of the road. Also abandoned by the federal government is the Ogwashi uku earth dam which was meant to provide water and generate for the area. The project which started since 2007 was to be commissioned by the former Vice President Namadi Sambo towards the tail end of former President Jonathan administration but was stopped by the community which felt that the project was not complete. The effect of the abandonment according to the community and the people ofAniocha south council area is the massive rise of the water level in the river such that it is currently on the verge of cutting off the Ogwashi uku-Kwale-Ughelli road. http://tribuneonlineng.com/2nd-niger-bridge-sapele-agbor-ewu-ogwashi-uku-dam-abandoned/ |
I have gone through several online media and found that the Yorubas, out of the 260 known ethnic groups in Nigeria, are the ONLY tribe very angry about Nigeria breaking up. From Nairaland, Facebook, Whatsup, Instagram, newsprint online media, and even on physical level. Could people state why this is so. We learn in this process. Please no insults.. |

SE will continue, with the sustained wickedness by the federal government; like poor roads, 2nd Niger bridge, quota system, high cut off marks to Unity schools, no federal investments, exclusion from rail network, relagating the Igbos who are one leg of the tripod that created Nigeria to minority status, etc, etc...Will these make you the happiest man on earth...? victorvezx:For where .....see>>>>> 50th Biafra anniversary: MASSOB, Security Agents hold processions in Imo IPOB Chidiebube Okeoma, Owerri May 29, 2017 The residents of Owerri, the Imo State capital, were in the early hours of Monday thrown into a surprise, as members of Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra and its sister group, Indigenous People of Biafra, and combined security agents staged separate processions ahead of the May 30 “sit at home” order by the pro-Biafra agitators. While security agents comprising the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, State Security Services, Army and Airforce processed across major streets in Owerri and other parts of the state, the pro-Biafra activists staged a street protest across the state capital ahead of the May 30, 50th year Biafra anniversary celebration. Singing pro Biafra songs, the secessionist groups shared hand bills which read “2017 Biafra Heroes remembrance day. We remember our fallen heroes from 1966-2017. 3.5 million Biafrans killed in Nigeria Biafra war. Over 200 IPOB members killed from 2015 till date. 30th May 2017, sit at home. Celebrating 50th Biafra anniversary”. Amidst cheers and ovation from residents who came out to watch them, the MASSOB and IPOB members, demonstrated, clutching various Biafra insignias. http://punchng.com/50th-biafra-anniversary-massob-security-agents-hold-processions-in-imo/ I still the de observe...things...

It’s now 50 years since the first shot was fired and 47 years since the war ended, but many of the issues are still on fire. The Igbo, in particular, believe that they are not receiving a fair deal in the union despite all the talk about reconciliation, rehabilitation and reconstruction. They believe the quota system and federal character are skewed against them, and the entrance requirements into federal schools are tougher for them compared to other parts of the country. The Igbo are also often at the receiving end of ethno-religious violence — although it is not limited to them these days. At some point, they always suffered the heaviest casualty. In the meantime, while every geo-political zone has six states (the north-west has seven), the south-east has only five. That means when you pick a minister per state, they will always have only five. They also have the least number of local governments. Federal infrastructural projects that could boost the south-east economy, such as interstate roads, railway and the second Niger bridge, do not often get priority attention in Abuja. Under the current administration, Igbo influence at the federal level has diminished significantly, compared to the case under Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan when they held important positions, especially under Jonathan. The elephant in the room, of course, is presidency. Will an Igbo ever become president of Nigeria again? Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, an Igbo, was governor-general of Nigeria from 1960 to 1963 and president from 1963 to 1966, but these were ceremonial positions without executive powers. Major-General JTU Aguiyi-Ironsi, an Igbo, accidentally became military head of state in 1966 after the failed Major Kaduna Nzeogwu-led coup. Aguiyi-Ironsi ruled for six months before he was killed in the countercoup. Since then, no Igbo has been president, either civilian or military. However, the other major ethnic groups — Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba — have had their fill. Now let’s face the fact: if I were an Igbo with such a long list of grievances, I would feel unloved and unwanted in the Nigerian federation. It is very easy for an outsider to dismiss these complaints. But the question to ask is: if you are a Fulani or Yoruba or Ijaw and you have a strong feeling that the system is skewed against the hopes, dreams and aspirations of your people, will you keep quiet? Who feels it knows it. I have said this a million times: I do not wish to live in any society where I am convinced there is a conspiracy to keep anyone down. I want to live in a society where there are no glass ceilings — no matter your ethnic origin, religion, beliefs, gender and accent.... janellemonae:How old are you gullible character. The killings in the north started before 1953. The coup was a militray thing. Did the military guys took permission from the Igbos to kill those leaders...? What led to the coup? Was it not part of the riot in the Wild, wild West...Please check your facts before you display your ignorance in the public... |
cristianisraeli:The north are not smart...What you call smartness here is their use of violence and terror...They introduced the SHARIA movement to distablise OBJ's government...They also upgraded Boko during GEJ's reign...If the whole south used the same methods...they would have called for talks to discuss the furture of the country...BUT I don't subscribe to terror...things should be done in a civilized way, like the use of refrendum....and other democratic processes... |
