He is not arguing with you that the Father is not different from Jesus. The name Jehovah is the same as the 'theos' (God) in Greek and Jesus is god thereby he is Jehovah. Jehovah is not the specific name of the Father, the Father has no name that his know to man at the moment. All those names in the old testament were only titles and names given to god based on the experiences with him. He Father clearly states that 'He is who he is" ( I am who I am). And only Jesus knows the Fathers name and will reveal it at the last day to his special people.
Revelation 3:12
[12]All who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of my God, and they will never have to leave it. And I will write on them the name of my God, and they will be citizens in the city of my God—the new Jerusalem that comes down from heaven from my God. And I will also write on them my new name.

So, when anyone tells you Jesus is Jehovah, he is telling you Jesus is god and not Jesus is the Father and yes the Father is greater than his son (Jesus).

These scriptures describe a future event and explicitly show that God the father is different from Jesus Christ, the Son.

What you wrote is super correct and it's not in argument. So we both agree that Jesus Christ was given all power and authority right? and he shares all the titles of the Father.
Now, you say that Jesus Christ is to fulfill specific purpose and that my be true but then, he was given all things, all authority. He was not given some specific authority or some specific powers. So why do you have a problem accepting this scriptural truth.
It was never up to you to pick and choose which authority Jesus Christ has. His Father gave him everything so why would you be the one to decide which of his Father's titles he is worthy of?

The Father is glorified in the Son.
Now, as humans we understand this. Nothing makes a parent more happy than the success of their Children. Parents don't get envious of their kids Success.

Our Father in heaven is not envious of Jesus Christ.
He commanded us to be perfect just like he is. He wants all of us to be like him and will do all it takes to help us reach our God potential.

And he wants us to be one with him just as his son is one with him.
