HOW TO GET A RECORD DEAL (PT. 1) By DAT Kulqee If you're reading this, you're probably 50% away from acquiring a record deal. The rest goes to when you decisively put them into action.. I have been privileged to go through over 300 articles and 100 audios and videos on A&R, Artiste Management and stories of how recent Stars got their record deal as its my passion and i came out with these notes... NOTE: You can choose to accept them and run with them or not but you can't stop them from being effective... 1. Personality Record labels ain't fans. They don't just make out meaning from your life on the media. They dig out facts about your everyday life and your kind of person. Are you humble? Are you always ready to learn? Can you be willing to change your sounds in the request of an artiste manager or music consultant? Pride won't let most artistes hid to those orders from the label. And trust me, no one enjoys a headache. 2. Content Most artistes are always making sounds with no concept. Most artistes are making confusing sounds. No one can really place your content without taking time to listen to two or more of your songs. A single product of yours should be able to define your craft. This doesn't really mean sticking to one beat like IF and Fall on you. But maintain the image you're representing. You can't be a rapper and be dressing or portraying yourself like a reggae musician. Your words, pictures and music should be able to define who you stand to represent. 3. Social Media Maturity No label wants to keep fighting to maintain your image on the industry. You should be matured to professionally grow and manage your fans via social media. 4. Artiste Manager I repeat no label will hire an artiste that doesn't understand that music is business. Once you have a manager, not just one but an experienced and matured one who knows what he's doing, you'll probably be more guided provided you're ready to fit into the first point mentioned above. Having an artiste manager replicates you're ready to make your talent that appears to be a hubby a 'Profession'. 5. Promotion. No A&R will border mentioning your name to a label when he/she knows aside your colleagues, friends, neighbours and family, no one else probably knows you. You only start having real fans when your 'fans' got to knew you through your music (I.e have not seen you before and most a times can't communicate to you directly (because you have an artiste manager that let's them know you're really in business and not in some crazy shit)). Thus you probably need to get your songs to the public. These are the points in pt1. Maybe pt2 maybe more explicit. ADD on FACEBOOK www.fb.com/datkulqee #SomethingBigIsCooking #PleaseSHARE |

THOSE WHO SAY IGBOS HAS NOT BEEN MARGINILIZED IN NIGERIA ARE FOOLS by Onyema Courage Just after the Nigeria-Biafra war ended in 1970, Nigeria continued to marginalize Igbos by devaluing the Biafran Pound and offering at most 20 Nigerian pounds to Igbos. This of course is the reason why Igbos are highly industrious and majorly traders. They tried to survive by hawking, trading, Child trafficking etc. This made Igbos lesser than Northern and wrstern Nigerians in finance, political power and influence. Despite these early challenges, Igbos survived and waxed strong financially but yet not leading the Nigerian Production Industry due to monopoly practiced in favour of a northern Nigerian(Dangote). Igbos however are leading all other sectors like Entertainment, Sports, etc. Igbos have been marginalized religiously, politically, economically and thus treated like they are out cast. Even while under Nigeria, Igbos has been made to live outside the interest of Nigerian government. These are the ways Igbos have been marginalized in Nigeria: 1) POLITICALLY: Nigeria is a country with three major political units; Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo. Nigeria has experienced the leadership of 14 men, and Igbos has not produced up to 5% of such leaders. Aside Nnamdi Azikiwe and Aguyi Ironsi (that never ruled up to a year) Igbos are yet to have a taste of leadership. Anyone saying Igbos have not been marginalized should as well tell me why we are yet to produce a democratic president and why South-East was left out in the rail way project by the FG. 2. EDUCATIONALLY If education in south East is $20 then it will cost only $1 in Northern Nigeria. Igbos cry out blood while paying expensive school fees and scoring high grades in UTME to be able to gain admission into a tertiary Institution unlike their northern counterparts. Northern Nigerians are begged to school. Their school fees are extremely too cheap compared to that of Igbos and they don't really need above 180/400 to be offered admission as it is for Igbos. Northern Nigerians have better school structures than Biafran schools. Out of the Best university lists in Nigeria, no university in Igbo land made it to the first best 10 universities. 3. FG PROJECT No single federal road in South East is accessible. Yet the federal government has not included South East in their plan on a railway project. 4. FG Appointments Easterners in the FG council is far below 10% of the total ministries in the country. Those who say Igbos have not been marginalized are fools and inhuman. Igbos cry for Biafra is and will still remain active until these errors are corrected... |
Below is the 10th edition of 'Abia Today' by Mr Onyema Courage. 10th edition titled: WHY 'MADE IN ABA' GOODS ARE VALUED LESS By Onyema Courage Read below and drop your comments: ================================= The entrepreneurship prowess of Aba, the commercial city of Abia state and one of the oldest cities in Nigeria has been neglected both nationally and internationally for years. The products coming from the city have been devalued and regarded as fake or 'China' by many. Few days ago, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu's led administration flagged off the Proudly Made In Aba Campaign. The event had the presence of most Southeastern dignitaries and the superstar artiste Ruffcoin (Nwa Aba) who happens to be the brand ambassador of the campaign. In just two years in office, Gov. Ikpeazu have been toiling with a way to promote 'Made In Aba' products. He recently went to China in search of foreign investors to help add quality to aba made products like shoes, wears etc. In as much as one cannot rule out the positive effects Gov. Ikpeazu's era has made in maintaining the relevance of Aba on the world's map, one can still question his efforts as I strongly believe more and different strategies need to be exercised in order to achieve this dream of selling Aba Entrepreneurs to the world. Lagos State seems to be the mountain top of Nigerian's entrepreneurship, this they have acquired not by appealing for their products to be valued but by continuously branding and rebranding their products. Aba indeed has even more creative and productive hands than Lagos but what differentiates the products from both cities is branding. How many of our aba entrepreneurs are registered with Corporate Affairs Commission? How many of them has logos, brand names and websites? Can one actually value a product with an uknown producer? The answer is negative. I guess a phone produced with no registered logo or brand name should and is right to be addressed as 'fake' or 'China' despite its quality and uniqueness. The State government has and is still fighting the accumulated superstitious belief that nothing good can come out of Aba, but right now the fight has gone beyond that. If the Aba Entrepreneurs and the Abia State Government want to stand tall in entrepreneurship, the government should set up sensitization programmes for manufacturers. Mark Essien of Hotel.ng and other celebrated Nigerian entrepreneurs are probably not as rich and creative like an average Aba Entrepreneur yet they receive national and international recognition as entrepreneurs and their products/ services valued above all, because of their branding. Over 800,000 shoes are produced in Aba in a single day and yet one cannot mention for sure one shoe manufacturing company in Aba. Until Aba entrepreneurs start branding and advertising their products, the efforts of Gov. Ikpeazu and the 'Made In Aba' campaign will not be substantial. |
Below is the 6th edition of 'Abia Today' by Mr Onyema Courage. 6th edition titled: IKPEAZU? OGAH OTTI? OR NWOSU? AND THE MAY 12TH INDEBT ANALYSIS By Onyema Courage Read below and drop your comments: ================================= Lets take it back to the 8th of December 2014 when Gov. Okezie IKPEAZU emerged winner of the PDP gubernatorial primaries. All the other contenders were not happy as no one expected them to rejoice over their defeat. While some of the contenders walked away and continued with their lives, Barrister F.N Nwosu and Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah went on to accuse the leaders of Abia State PDP for thwarting the result of the primaries. The first to strike Ikpeazu with a law suit concerning his Tax Papers was Barrister F.N Nwosu who by this has been alleged by many to have rubbished his career in the state politics as far as PDP is concerned. Nwosu filed a forgery case against Ikpeazu seeking for the disqualification of the seating governor based on his tax papers which he claimed were forged. Nwosu's suit against Ikpeazu is 'self centered' as he believes he'll be sworn in as governor if Ikpeazu is disqualified, resting his argument on the fact that Ogah and other fellow contenders cannot benefit from a process they declared illegal and walked away from. He also said that it was only him and Ikpeazu that signed the result of the primaries, so by law, it is only him and Ikpeazu that contested for the PDP gubernatorial primaries. Dr. Uche Ogah became the second who's 'self' went before the 'state' as he took up the courage to file a suit against Ikpeazu seeking for the disqualification of the governor for presenting false information contained in his tax papers under oath. Ogah’s suit culminated when Justice Okon Abang on June 27, 2016 ordered that Ikpeazu should vacate the office and that INEC should issue certificate of Return to Dr. Uche Ogah and he should be sworn in by the Chief Judge of Abia State. And this was exactly what INEC did in less than 48hours after this judgement was read. Okon Abang’s decision raised a deadly alarm in the state, causing numerous public protests and private drama. The tension was very high. And the Ngwa race felt agitated as the power they've always longed for was almost being robbed from them. When Ogah arrived Umuahia with his entourage from Abuja, the city was already on fire. Abia State Chief Judge had gone underground scared of loosing her life as well as other judiciary officers that could sworn in Ogah into power. That was the extent of the tremendous impact Abang's decision left on the state. Disunited the state and broke the populace into units. Finally the matter went to the Appeal Court on Ikpeazu's watch as the governor pleaded for a proper look at the Abangs 'Ghana must Go' inspired judgment. On 18th August 2016, the appeal court in Abuja declared IKPEAZU winner and reinstated him as the executive governor of Abia State. The panel, which comprised Justices Helen Ogunwumiju, Abubakar Datti Yahaya, Philomina Ekpe, Ibrahim Shatta Bdliya and Saidu Tanko Hussaini, set aside the judgment delivered by Justice Okon Abang in its entirety. The court held that the originating summons which led to the judgment that removed Ikpeazu was not properly constituted, and as such, the lower court lacked jurisdiction to hear it, and consequently, any decision that flowed from it was null and void. Aside from not signing the originating summons, the court held that the suit filed by Dr. Samson Ogah did not disclose any cause of action because it was filed even before the appellant (Ikpeazu) submitted his documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Justice Shatta agreed with the counsel to the governor, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) that it was not the duty of the court to begin to search for the signatory to the originating summons to authenticate it as required by law. The court also held that although the originating summons was later amended, an amended summons has no capacity to cure a defective and incurably bad originating summons being the foundation of the suit. According to the appellate court, "the law has laid down principles by which a case can be instituted, but on the motion which led to this appeal, three people indicated themselves as lawyers and signed the document while the law states that only an identifiable legal practitioner can do so." The court ruled that it was not its business to embark on a voyage of helping a litigant decide who filed his case, and by so doing, the lower court erred in deciding for the litigants. In another pronouncement by Justice Ogunwumiju, the appellate court held that Justice Abang raped democracy in his order that the INEC should issue a certificate of return to Ogah when there was no evidence of forgery or criminality against Ikpeazu. According to the court, the judgment of Justice Abang was grossly erroneous because it was based on inadequacy of tax receipt that cannot be visited on the appellant. "After reading through the judgment several times, I was amazed at how the trial judge arrived at his conclusion of perjury against the appellant when there was no evidence of forgery. To say the least, his findings are ridiculous. "The judge must have sat in his chamber, unilaterally assessed and computed the tax of the appellant and came to the conclusion that he did not pay the required tax. But let me say that courts are not allowed to speculate as the trial judge has done in the instant case. “In another breath, the trial judge spoke from both sides of his mouth when in one breath, he claimed that he based his findings on supply of false information and in another breadth, he came to the conclusion that the appellant in this matter committed perjury, even when there was no allegation of forgery and no allegation that he did not pay tax.” The Appeal Court also held that the Federal High Court judge turned the head of the law upside down in his conclusion that it was the appellant that should bear the burden of proof on the allegation made by Ogah. "With respect, we disagree with him in this conclusion because it is the person that makes an allegation of falsehood that must prove it," the court said. "From whatever angle one looks at the judgment of the trial judge, the decision of his court was grossly erroneous. The inadequacies of the tax receipt cannot be visited on Ikpeazu who scored the highest votes in the 2015 governorship election as doing so will amount to a rape of democracy." Yet, the case was moved to the supreme court by Uche Ogah. The Supreme Court has reserved ruling on applications relating to the Abia State governorship tussle for May 12. A five-member panel of the apex court presided over by the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, gave the date after hearing arguments from counsel on the matter. Abians called out May 2017 as a month that can either make or mar the state. The citizens of the state still maintain their stands in factions behind their prospective candidates. Though the governor has been found delivering great projects in the state, he has still suffered set backs and numerous oppositions all because of this active suit in court. May 12, the day Abians decisions may or may not be tampered with. But as it stands, Gov. IKPEAZU seem to have a larger chance of winning this tussle as compared to his contenders as tax payment holds no grounds as a qualification needed to be elected a governor that's if he's found to be guilty as charged. This I don't still see coming. Section 177 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has provided all the qualifications one must undergo to be a Governor of a state and which taxation and it's payment is not among. 177. A person shall be qualified for election to the office of Governor of a State if (a) he is a citizen of Nigeria by birth; (b) he has attained the age of thirty-five years; (c) he is a member of a political party and is sponsored by that political party; and (d) he has been educated up to at least School Certificate level or its equivalent. Yet I wonder why this case has lingered for years. Maybe there are other count charges against the governor which are yet to surface. But I don't see governor Ikpeazu being bent on May 12th. Nevertheless, one can't possibly say who will be Abia States governor on May 12th 2017. IKPEAZU? or OGAH or OTTI? or NWOSU?

*THE YOUTHS, THE ONES HOLDING THE KEY TO HAVING A 30 YEAR OLD NIGERIAN PRESIDENT!* *#NotTooYoungToRun* Am pleased at how the Nigerian youths of 2017 have reacted towards politics. Back when I was growing up, I remember hearing of Nigerian leaders who assumed office in their mid 20s and early 30s. But it seems that changed some years back, when every single political position in the country had grandpa's and grandma's occupying them all even up to the post of the youth leader in political parties. I have always believed in a better Nigeria, despite the conflicts amidst our understanding of leadership flamed by the love we share with corruption, tribalism and chauvinism. But I believe for youths to assume office, we need to fight the mindset we've nurtured over the years about politics. Our parents have always and still do tell us that "Politics is a dirty game". This we grew up with and found it difficult to be as political as we are meant to be until our late 50's when we can possibly make our decisions in life with little or no parental guidance. This mindset we must erase. Politics is not a dirty game. We only have few dirty politicians, same way not all businessmen involve in money rituals, dishonesty and fraud. If truly we youths desire a space in the Nigeria's Politics, we need to first of all arrest this mindset and secondly stand against rigging of elections as we youths through rigging elections play a primary role on the outcome of the elections. If these two points can be arrested, then no one will be used as a tool by our fathers to cause election violence, and thus we stand a chance of having our leaders of choice. This is the only way, YOUTH LEADERSHIP can be realized as we dream for a better Nigeria. © *UBA CHIEMEZUO ANYAWU* 28/4/2017 |

BininEmpire:Ritualism can be a personal thing. As a lot still practice witchcraft and African Traditional Religion I. Desperation for wealth. But saying a whole sect feeds on humans, that's inhuman. NOBODY IS POOR!!! "CBN says a poor man is one living below 1-dollar (385 naira) a day. So do you mean to say no one can afford to spend at least 400naira in a day? I definitely don't belief anyone is poor" That's what a fellow said and I got pissed... Why say no one is poor? Why say no one needs help? Is it to justify your inability to render help to the less privilege? Or is it that you derive pleasure seeing people with gnashing teeth in your neighborhood? Do you know there are persons who can't afford a 100naira cup of garri? Have you been to the far north where a single family bears the population of a kindred in the East and yet the family as a whole lives below a dollar daily? Have you been to the South where the peoples farms and rivers are destroyed by oil spillage and the citizens suffer to live? That you are graced to be Rich doesn't mean no one is poor. World Bank has it that only 1% of the worlds population is absolutely rich, and the rest 99% harbours those who can at least meet their daily needs and those who can't... I visited my village for Easter and I got disturbed when I realize Kwashiorkor is still in existence in my dear Nation. Why then can't you offer 10 naira, 20naira ,100naira , thousands and millions as alms to the less privilege? Why then can't we all he philanthropists in the levels of our earnings? I belief no religion preaches against alms. So please help that poor boy/girl in the streets. God Will Reward you richly. #ShowSomeLove © Uba Chiemezuo Anyawu

WHERE DID OKEZIE IKPEAZU GO WRONG ![]() By Uba Chiemezuo Anyawu The governor seems to have had many oppositions online and offline. Though his supporters greatly outnumbers his opposition, the reason for opposition still baffles me. It is true not everyone supports good as well as not everyone experiences good, but even the devil knows that God is good. We tend to despise the seating government all because of our selfish interests. If he's not from your tribe, does that make him evil? REMEMBER, the abia state he met 2 years ago, is not the abia of today. There are tangible changes to which we could see, touch and feel. If you're honest enough, you will applaud him for his efforts. Just before you criticize him today, remember he is never responsible for the ABIA STATE he met. He isn't responsible for ABIA STATE not having a fly over that he's trying to fix now or for ABIA STATE having bad road networks of which we can attest to the roads that came with his government. Just because he's not the one you campaigned or voted for doesn't make him evil. After all we had various choices, we voted for personal reasons. What would have come out from the governments of those we voted, we can't catergorically say for sure. So why not accept the 'devil' you have that's doings Gods work in our dear state. Than stick to fanatics to the angel we don't know. Okezie might not be the best governor in the country, but he's probably the best in the state. He might be owing workers a 2 months salary, but that's the least you can get as Kogi State is owing 14 months, Osun (12) , Ogun (6) , Kwara (11), Ondo (7), IMO (2) , Ekiti (6) and Bayelsa (7). THROW BACK of BBnaija 2017 winner’s hit rap single Call Olopka. This song is a better explaination the phrases “street hop” or “hiphop for the streets”, with well delivered rhymes and witty flows plus a sing along chorus to complete its greatness. The song describes the guts of the average individual on the street to overcome intimidation and oppression against his/her will to succeed, channeled through the perspective of a rapper. [ The Nigerian music industry has developed so much that people earn a living from music, to the point that artistes like Wizkid can afford to buy a Porche car which goes for over 50million without having to call on mummy and daddy, but the major challenge up and coming artistes are having is getting signed on to a record label. That is why I came up to with this article to help all up and coming artistes with free tips on how to get signed on to a record label in Nigeria on your own 1. Develop your brand. Be known for my what you do. Stick to a style of music. Many up and coming stars keep running in circles, doing rap, R&B , dance hall etc just to show their versatility. Oh yes, it might help in gaining fans, but NO it counts less in getting a label. All record labels wanna see you gain fans in the brand you findself in. So if you sing, develop it, if you rap, build on that. 2. Build a niche of fans Oh yes, no record label will wanna sign a fanless artistes. You need to have fans in the range of 5-10 thousand before thinking about a record deal. Talking about fans, I mean individuals who are always ready to download your singles, follow up your tours and pay for your events. Don’t misunderstand fans to family and friends. They are different. A fan should be one who has no direct contact to you More on http://bluejamz.com.ng/2017/04/10/editorial-how-to-get-a-record-label-deal-in-nigeria/

The internet has opened up endless possibilities, and, while that may seem daunting, it really allows you to experiment and let your creativity run wild! The key is to learn from the promotions you run, make changes, and fine-tune them to your unique career. Let’s take a look at some basic strategies you could be using to promote your music right now. 1. Use Social Media to Promote Your Gigs and Appearances We all use social media. These days, if you’re not on Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram and Twitter, it’s almost like you don’t exist. However, you may not be using social media to it’s full potential to promote your music. Social media is not a straight-up marketing platform. It’s really a catalyst for conversation and word-of-mouth marketing. About 80% of your posts should be funny, conversational, and interesting, leaving about 20% for promotional material. Check out Oga Micky Di Wavy on Facebook for a clearer picture of how to be socially active. 2. Promote Your Music on Music Websites and blogs like BlueJamz The website shouldn’t be a static thing. It should be ever adapting and changing to reflect new events in your career. If you want to promote your music, it isn’t just about sharing things with your fans. You also want to reach out to new audiences and convert them to fans, and music blogs are a great way to do that. Bloggers are always looking for fresh, new content, and the cool thing is, there are a ton of smaller blogs that are totally within your reach as an indie artist. Blogs also tend to have a pretty niche following. This means that if your music is run on a blog, it’s guaranteed to be seen by people who already like the genre! It was a world breaking news when Africa’s largest record label added just about three more talents to their amazing crew. To some it came a surprise, to others it came just when we expected it. But i have been wondering why johnny drille? I guess many of us all have been having such wonders too. Here are Five (5) blue Reasons why Jazzy signed Drille 1. Drille grew his fan base even without a label He has been industrious ever since he got his name on a professionally produced and mastered song. He is not very rich but he has been 100 percent determined to succeed and proved that by giving his music all he had. 2. He is unarguably different Drille has created a niche for himself. A place where only him rules and every other person is a follower. Jazzy is a businessman and thus knows what difference and rarity means. He just couldn’t let that deal snap off his fingers More Reasons on : http://bluejamz.com.ng/2017/03/13/5-reasons-don-jazzy-signed-johnny-drille/ More on |
