Celebrities / Twitter Users May Soon Have To Pay Monthly Fee To Keep Their Verified Tags by Cowmilk(m): 12:47pm On Oct 31, 2022
Twitter users may soon have to pay monthly fee to keep their verified tags, report says

Just days after “Chief Twit” Elon Musk took over Twitter, the social media giant is reportedly introducing a new plan to charge users a monthly fee of about $20 to retain their verification tags.

The social media company is working out plans to change its $5 a month subscription service Twitter Blue into a more expensive one that also verifies users, The Verge reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

“The whole verification process is being revamped right now,” Twitter’s new boss Mr Musk tweeted on Monday, replying to a user on the microblogging platform.

Twitter’s executives reportedly spent the weekend discussing changes to the social media platform.
Users may have to pay to subscribe to Twitter Blue or lose their badges, Casey Newton, a former editor for The Verge reported in his newsletter Platformer, citing sources close to the matter.
Users may have to pay to subscribe to Twitter Blue or lose their badges, Casey Newton, a former editor for The Verge reported in his newsletter Platformer, citing sources close to the matter.
The subscription service, launched last year, currently costs $4.99, and is only available in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and offers users a slew of new features such as the ability to undo or bookmark tweets as well as a “reader mode” to view long threads of posts.

Twitter Blue, along with the verification tag for its users, may cost as much as $19.99 per month, according to the report.
The social media company did not immediately respond to The Independent’s request for comment.

Merely three days after taking over Twitter, Mr Musk has made several changes to the company, firing three of its top executives, including chief executive Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal and Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s head of legal policy, trust and safety.
Since his takeover, Twitter has made changes to the platform’s homepage for logged-out users and the Tesla chief has also pitched to investors to cut Twitter’s reliance on advertising revenue.
On becoming the company’s new owner, Mr Musk described it as an asset with “incredible potential” that has “sort of languished for a long time”.
The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” the Tesla titan tweeted.
There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society,” he said.

Some reports have also expressed concern following Mr Musk’s statements about free speech and open debate on the platform, that there be cuts to Twitter’s content moderation.

Health / Patient Dies After Being Given Sweet Lemon Juice In Drip In Place Of Blood Compo by Cowmilk(m): 2:05pm On Oct 22, 2022
A dengue patient in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state died after he was allegedly administered fruit juice instead of blood platelets.

Pradeep Pandey, 32, was transfused with sweet lemon juice and chemicals in a blood pack by the private hospital, his family has alleged.

After Pandey’s condition started deteriorating, he was shifted to another hospital where he died. Doctors at the second hospital informed Pandey’s relatives that the platelet bag was fake and instead, contained juice.

As the video of the fake “platelet bag” went viral on social media, Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak ordered that Global Hospital and Trauma Centre — the private hospital in Prayagraj city where the incident took place — be sealed.
“...on my directive, the hospital was sealed and the platelet packets have been sent for testing,” Mr Pathak said on Thursday. “If found guilty, strict action will be taken against the hospital.”
The patient’s family was asked to arrange blood platelets after his platelet count dropped to 17,000, Mr Mishra told news agency Press Trust of India. He added that Pandey had a reaction after three units of the “platelets” were transfused.

“They brought five units of platelets from SRN Hospital. After the transfusion of three units, the patient had a reaction. So we stopped it,” he said, adding that the platelets’ origin should be traced because they had the sticker of SRN hospital on them.
Pandey fell sick on 14 October and was admitted to the private hospital where he was told he was suffering from dengue, his brother-in-law Saurabh Tripathi said.

“We were told he has dengue after tests were done. On October 16, we were told that he needed eight units of platelets. We managed to arrange three units from within the family,” Mr Tripathi told The Indian Express.
He allegedly got in touch with the hospital building owner’s son and paid him Rs 25,000 (£270) for five units.

“When the four units of platelets were given to my brother-in-law, his condition worsened. Then we took him to another private hospital. The doctors there said there was some blood clotting in the body,” Mr Tripathi added
Pandey died on 19 October.

A three-member panel has been formed by the government to probe the medical negligence while the hospital remained sealed.

Crime / 2 Nigeria Men Jailed For Swindling Victims Out Of £674,000 In Online Dating Scam by Cowmilk(m): 8:10am On Oct 18, 2022
Two men jailed for swindling victims out of £674,000 in online dating scam

One female victim from Switzerland lost more than £600,000 after the men tricked her into thinking she was in an online romance

Two men have been jailed after swindling victims out of £674,000 as part of an online dating scam.

James Olagbaiye, 47, from Newham, was sentenced to four years and four months’ imprisonment at Southwark Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to conspiracy to money launder.

His accomplice Adesola Adebayo, 38, has been sentenced to four years and six months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to money launder and commit fraud.

The court heard how both men were part of an organised criminal group based in the UK and Nigeria that scammed multiple women and a man out of more than £670,000 by committing an online romance fraud.
A female victim in her sixties, from Switzerland, personally lost the equivalent of £612,000.

She mistakenly believed she was in an online romance with a British doctor and biologist living in London.

The scammers sent her a photo of a fake British passport bearing the photo of an older gentleman as part of the ruse.

This false online persona claimed to have produced ventilation machines for the National Health Service (NHS) to help combat the Covid-19 pandemic and sought the victim’s money as a loan for this venture.
The victim only realised she had been scammed after she was contacted by detectives from the Met’s Hendon based Economic Crime Unit following the arrest of the two men.

The team identified a further female victim from the USA, a man and two women from the UK.

The men were arrested on 29 October 2020 at an address in Newham. During their arrests, officers seized their mobile phones and bank statements which led them to identify further victims.

Detective Constable Chris Collins from the Met’s Specialist Crime, said: “These men have spun a web of lies to their victims and abused their honest intentions in the most awful way.

“I would ask anyone in an online relationship to think carefully before meeting demands for money no matter how heartfelt and convincing their story is.”

Crime / Re: Hushpuppi Narrates How He Bribed Nigerian Top Cop Abba Kyari In $1.1 Million Dea by Cowmilk(m): 8:17am On Jul 29, 2021

Crime / Hushpuppi Narrates How He Bribed Nigerian Top Cop Abba Kyari In $1.1 Million Dea by Cowmilk(m): 8:15am On Jul 29, 2021
Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas, the infamous Nigerian fraudster who recently pleaded guilty in the United States, has narrated how he bribed Nigeria’s celebrated police chief Abba Kyari, court documents seen by Peoples Gazette said.

Federal authorities in the U.S. have been investigating Mr Abbas and his co-conspirators after their syndicate was busted in Dubai, New York and other top cities last June. Officials said in court filings that Mr Abbas disclosed during interrogation that he paid bribes to Mr Kyari, a deputy police commissioner, to have one of his rivals arrested and jailed in Nigeria following a dispute over a $1.1 million dupe of a Qatari businessperson.

Mr Kyari did not immediately return calls and messages seeking his response to Mr Abbas’ claims when reached by The Gazette on Thursday morning.

Mr Abbas asked Mr Kyari to arrest and jail a fellow fraudster Kelly Chibuzor Vincent after both were locked in a dispute presumably over how to share the $1.1 million loot received from the Qatari businessperson. Mr Vincent subsequently contacted the victim and informed him that he was being scammed by a syndicate involving him and Mr Abbas.

This elicited anger from Mr Abbas, who contacted Mr Kyari to arrest and jail his rival over the dispute. Mr Abbas said Mr Kyari sent pictures of Mr Vincent in jail and subsequently sent his bank account number to Mr Abbas to which a wire transfer should be made having done a good job as sent by Mr Abbas.

“Court documents outline a dispute among members of the conspiracy, which allegedly prompted Vincent to contact the victim and claim that Abbas and Juma were engaged in fraud. After this contact, Abbas allegedly arranged to have Vincent jailed in Nigeria by Abba Alhaji Kyari, 46, of Nigeria.

“According to the affidavit, Kyari is a highly decorated deputy commissioner of the Nigeria Police Force who is alleged to have arranged for Vincent to be arrested and jailed at Abbas’ behest, and then sent Abbas photographs of Vincent after his arrest. Kyari also allegedly sent Abbas bank account details for an account into which Abbas could deposit payment for Vincent’s arrest and imprisonment,” U.S. Justice department said in a statement.

After the $1.1 million fraud was successful, Mr Abbas spent $230,000 on a watch and also bribed officials at St. Kitts and Nevis for his citizenship of that island country.

“Approximately $230,000 of the stolen funds allegedly were used to purchase a Richard Mille RM11-03 watch, which was hand delivered to Abbas in Dubai and subsequently appeared in Hushpuppi’s social media posts.

“Other illicit proceeds from the scheme were allegedly converted into cashier’s checks, including $50,000 in checks that were used by Abbas and a co-conspirator to fraudulently acquire a St. Christopher and Nevis citizenship, as well as a passport for Abbas obtained by creating a false marriage certificate and then bribing a government official in St. Kitts,” officials said.

Mr Abbas pleaded guilty to multimillion-dollar fraud earlier this month and faces up to 20 years in jail. He will be sentenced in the coming weeks and will forfeit some of his assets and his rights to appeal while also paying restitution to victims of his years-long fraud.

Mr Kyari has long grabbed media accolades as a no-nonsense cop who brought sanity to violent but lucrative crimes in Nigeria, including kidnapping and armed banditry.

He received an accelerated promotion for his exploits. But critics have repeatedly warned that his tactics had become increasingly brutal, opaque and corrupt.

In 2018, rights group Amnesty International accused Mr Kyari of illegally depleting assets of a suspected criminal after his team shot the man dead on the highway. Collins Ezenwa’s wife at the time said Mr Kyari and his team withdrew money from her late husband’s bank account and pocketed millions in accommodation proceeds from his hotels.

Mr Kyari denied corruption amongst his team but did not categorically address the allegations of the Ezenwas.

At about the same time as when Mr Abbas was arrested last June in Dubai, Mr Kyari was honoured by the Nigerian House of Representatives, with lawmakers praising him for his diligent and incorruptible service to the nation.

My granma sends me garri, dry pepper, oil from village, oh, let me not forget she sends yam and plantain too, even melon. Mama can send the whole village if possible.

My hubby enjoys it now. Initialy, he wasn't comfortable with it, I told him mama do that to all her children and am not an exception. She cant travel to your house empty handed, never.

What we do is we give her money in return, there are times i send her money to get me oil. Not an insult at all. All caring mothers do this and it's not because they want to disrespect you. The only thing is give them the cash, more cash to cover the food stuffs and more, buy them cloths and things you know they need. Chikena.

On arguing, you guys are still new, stop running upandan. My hubby n I argued alot when we newly got married. I had to learn to laugh when he start, when I start my own he goes to bed because we never liked the way we argued. You both are still in that 'know me know' you period.

You want to look out, no good man out there ooo, forget getting love outside. Build your home.

Hi @justwise
Thanks for the insight

Planning to apply for the standard visa soon for my plab exams... I think I have sufficient funds..

But my concern is dat while going through my statements I noticed most of the debits I made for the last couple of months are through internet transfer from my salary account to my other account (not same bank) this because at a point I misplaced the ATM of my salary account.. This made most of my debits transfer to my other account or a 3rd party I desire to send money to..well these debits are not huge. Max 20k

I really desire to present the statement of just my salary account... As my other account really has some transactions I can't account for

Is there anything to be worried about ..is ECO concerned about destination of ur debits as its not huge

Thank you
