The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says it has complied with the Federal Government’s directive on re-opening of land borders in the country. This is contained in a statement signed by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday James and issued to newsmen on Friday in Abuja. “In compliance with the directive of the Federal Government, the following four land borders have been re-opened,” the statement said. It listed the borders as Seme in South-West, Illela in the North-West, Maigatari in the North-West and North-East and Mfum, South-South respectively. It said that the borders were immediately re-opened in the first phase, since the closure of land borders on Aug. 20 2019. According to the statement, the Comptroller General of NIS had also directed the head of the service formation at these borders posts to comply and remove restrictions of human movement. It said that the head of the service formation at these borders must avoid unethical practices and unprofessional conducts. It added that all persons entering or exiting the country must hold a valid travel document as prescribed in the immigration Act 2015 and to observe COVID-19 protocols. The service enjoined travellers in the statement to pass through only these four designated authorised borders posts pending the re-opening of others. |

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, says the Federal Government has commenced the review of the nation’s Labour Laws to meet what obtains globally. Ngige made this known while receiving a delegation led by Mrs Kathleen FitzGbbon, Deputy Chief Mission, the U.S in Nigeria, during a visit on Thursday in Abuja. He said the review was necessary in line with the Conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). “We are amending our laws to become contemporaneous with what obtains globally. We have done a Labour Law review. “We will send it to parliament. ILO is assisting us. But, we are doing what we can with our own small resources,” Ngige said. The minister said the Federal Government had done so much in the labour sector, especially in the areas of occupational safety and health. He said the Occupational Safety and Health Department in the ministry had engaged in labour inspections to ensure that working places conform to decent work standards. “We also have two types of insurance for workers. We have insurance against death, which is called Group Life Insurance. “We also have Employee Compensation Act, by which a worker is insured against any accident, injuries and death that may occur in the course of work. `This is an agency of this ministry, which is Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) that is managing it,” he said. Ngige added that a steering committee had been set up for the elimination of child trafficking and slave labour, with its secretariat domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment. He said Nigeria has a Child Labour Policy, noting that efforts were being made to bring on board, a new Action Plan to replace the Action Plan that expired in 2017 before COVID-19 interfered. “So, we are hoping that by next year, we shall launch it. We will do so after the validation. “We also have the National Steering Committee on Elimination of Child Labour and in the various 36 states. We have the state committees,” the minister said. He said the government had also followed the educational enticement approach through the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme to ensure free Primary and Junior Secondary School. He, however, called for assistance from the U.S Government toward equipping the schools for technical education. Ngige further solicited for technical and logistics assistance from the U.S Government, saying that the ministry lacked enough resources to carry out its mandate. Earlier, FitzGbbon said her delegation came for information from the ministry for their end of year report on what Nigeria was doing on the elimination of Trafficking in Persons and Child Labour. She said the visit was also to find out the kind of aid that Nigeria needed in combating these menaces before reviewing its policy on Nigeria on the two issues. |

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has fixed Wednesday for judgment in the case of a former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party Olisa Metuh who was convicted by a Federal High Court in Abuja on February 25, 2020 for money laundering. It was gathered that the lead lawyers were served hearing notice for the judgment on Monday. Justice Stephen Adah will be leading a three-man panel of the court in delivering judgement by 2pm on Wednesday. Two of the three consolidated appeals were filed separately by Mr Metuh and his company Destra Investment Limited, both convicted in the Federal High Court’s judgment. The third was filed by a former national security adviser Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd.) who was indicted in the contested judgment of the Federal High Court for acting in breach of public trust and paying proceeds of his alleged corrupt act to Metuh and his firm. Justice Okoh Abang of the Federal High Court had convicted and sentenced Metuh to seven years’ imprisonment for money laundering charges involving alleged concealment and unlawful use of the N400 million paid to him and his firm Destra Investments Limited by Dasuki in November 2014. |

The Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi, has given an assurance that the abducted students of the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, will be rescued soon as they have established their whereabouts. Mr Magashi, a retired major-general, gave the assurance on Sunday in Katsina when he led a Federal Government delegation to Gov. Aminu Masari on a sympathy visit. He said that security agents were working hard to ensure that the students were rescued. “So far, we have been briefed by the Police Commissioner, GOC, Brigade Commander, Air Commander, DSS, and other security officers. “Our interest is to keep ourselves abreast of what actually happened two days ago and we believe with their briefings, this task is going to be simple for us. “We have strategies and I believe we can do it without any collateral damage to the people of Katsina State. “We have the intelligence, the information, their whereabouts, their movements and their methods of operations. “The task is easy for the armed forces and the police. “The only thing is that we need prayers from you so that there will be no collateral damage in the event of being hostile. “We assure you that all hands are on deck,” he said. In his remarks, Masari said that the school has a population of 839 students. He said that the state government was still searching for some of the missing students. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that members of the delegation included the National Security Adviser, retired Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin. Also in the delegation were the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas and the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar. Others were the Director General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Magaji-Bichi and Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Rufai. NAN reports that some students of the boarding school were kidnapped on Friday night by gunmen. |
Buhari is the best president so far in the history of Nigeria. Meanwhile, Governor said about 333 students still missing. Let do simple analysis * 333 students missing---- political statement * 333 multiply by 2 = 666 students. That means 666 students still missing. Buhari till 2099 |
