The Peoples Democratic Party, on Thursday, said former President Goodluck Jonathan has no space in the All Progressives Congress.

The PDP was reacting to a visit by some APC governors and chieftains to the Abuja residence of the former president last month.

The visit by the APC chieftains to Jonathan, who contested in the 2011 and 2015 presidential elections on the platform of the PDP, raised the stakes in permutations for the 2023 general elections.

But speaking on Thursday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, dispelled reports that Jonathan was about to dump the party for the APC ahead of the 2023 elections. Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State had defected from the PDP to the APC last month, saying more opposition politicians would join the ruling APC.

However, the PDP spokesperson said the party was not bothered by Umahi’s defection as well as the recent visit by the APC chieftains to Jonathan’s Abuja residence.

“Why should we be bothered about people who are working on innuendos and are claiming they are working. Where is the action?

“Because some governors went to visit (former) President Goodluck Jonathan on his birthday, then, it is concluded that he has joined APC? For me, there are many things I cannot say in the public but I want to assure Nigerians that former President Goodluck Jonathan is politically savvy enough to know he has no space in the All Progressives Congress,” Ologbondiyan stated on a television programme in Lagos on Thursday.

Jonathan was elected president in 2011 and lost to Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress in 2015. His concession call to Buhari which was first of its kind endeared him to many within and outside Nigeria.

The former Bayelsa State governor has also been active in his role as Special Envoy of the Economic Community of West African States.

Bauchi govt to renovate govt house with N6.1bn, says present structure “embarrassing”
Bauchi State Government has planned to renovate is Government house with over N6.1billion.

The information was released by the Commissioner for Environment and Housing Mr. Hamisu Muazu Shira while speaking with journalists.

He said that the present Government House was built during the creation of the state in 1976.

Acccording to him, the current structure is an embarrassment.

He added: “If you check some states that were created the same time with Bauchi State, you will see that almost all of them have reconstructed government houses.

“This structure was built by the military government. We have presented a memo during the Executive Council meeting before the governor and N6.1billion will be spent to reconstruct the Government House.

“Also, we are going to reconstruct Bauchi Government Lodge in Abuja where the governor, his deputy, speaker, chief judge, secretary to the state government and journalists can make use of anytime they are in Abuja. The governor’s office around the ECOWAS headquarters will be remodelled too. This will cost the government N3.1million

A member representing Nguroje Constituency in the Taraba House of Assembly, Barr. Bashir Mohammed has been abducted by unknown gunmen.

Acccording to The Nation, the lawmaker was kidnapped from his house behind SSS office area of Jalingo at about 1. 30. am Wednesday by a heavily armed gunmen.

According to the source, the gunmen who were more than ten in number and heavily armed with assorted weapons invaded the house at about 1.30 am and engaged the area in sporadic shooting that lasted for over 45 minutes before kidnapping the lawmaker.

The source said that none of the family members was hurt, adding that the kidnappers forced the lawmaker into one of the two vehicles used by them.

Barr. Bashir Mohammed, a member representing Nguroje Constituency is also the Chairman House Committee on Information in the Taraba state House of Assembly.

When contacted the spokesman of the Taraba police command DSP, David Misal did not respond to calls from this reporter.

Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has kicked against zoning for the post of presidency.

Many groups and individuals have been declaring support for creation of zoning system for political posts in the country, most especially, position of President.

Fayemi lent his voice on this matter while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics on Sunday.

Fayemi was expressing his opinion to various calls for the Power to shift to south in 2023.

Acccording to the Governor, he understands the feelings of those who feel marginalized in the country.

He said:“in a country that is multicultural, multireligious and multiethnic, one of the equilibrating mechanisms is to ensure that those in leadership represent the mosaic that the country is”.

“there are excellent Nigerians from all parts of the country”.

Fayemi added that candidates from any part of the country has the right t take part in the primaries ahead of the next general election.

Some top stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State have decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Among the defectors are: Chima Obinna; former John Bazie; and Dr. Ipalibo Jenberetoa George

Chief Salvation Ezegwogwo (business mogul from Ahoada-East) and Johnny Soye Lulu-Barango joined APC.

They were welcomed by Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi at the APC secretariat on Long Aba Road, Port Harcourt, at the weekend.

Amaechi used the opportunity to showcase his achievements.

He said: “There is not up to 10 per cent of politicians here who did not pass through me. I don’t drink, I have never tasted alcohol in my life, I don’t smoke, I am not tribalistic. If I were, I would have accepted tempting offers by the former president to remain in PDP, but I insisted that I will never leave President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I built projects in every village. We will challenge PDP to show us such projects in every village in the state. By the time I left government, my indebtedness was N17 billion, I challenge them if they have not borrowed up to N500 billion.

“During my tenure, I built all the federal roads to the tune of N104 billion. When the Federal Government said it could only pay N78 billion, I was not selfish to kill it. If I am evil, I could have killed it in the cabinet by simply lobbying my colleagues to never allow it see the light of the day, since I am no longer a governor, but not only did I argue that they must pay governors who worked on federal roads, but I insisted the money was not enough.

“Rivers’ interest is primary to me. Outside that, Nigerians interest is equally paramount to me.”
