Culture / How Will You DESCRIBE This Easter Decoration In One Word? by crackclap: 5:00pm On Apr 21, 2019
There are things that will always be super funny, or say weird. This got me thinking, what the hell is this?

We all know that this is what EASTER TELLS - The festival of Easter is the oldest annual festival in the Christian calendar. It originated in the 2nd century AD, probably within 100 years of the time of Christ. We know this because we still have the text of an Easter sermon preached in around 190 AD.

The early Christians celebrated Easter during or on the Sunday after the Jewish feast of Passover which, the gospels say, is the time of the year when Christ died and rose again. After some debate, the church settled on a Sunday.

However, Christians found that Jews at that time were not very consistent about when they celebrated Passover – Jews in different countries used different date so, in the 4th century, the church developed its own universal formula, though still similar to the Jewish practice and still following the moon, as Passover does..

Religion / We're Too Over Spiritual. Easter, Where Did Easter Start, And Was Today Easter? by crackclap: 4:41pm On Apr 21, 2019
The festival of Easter is the oldest annual festival in the Christian calendar. It originated in the 2nd century AD, probably within 100 years of the time of Christ. We know this because we still have the text of an Easter sermon preached in around 190 AD.

Before we go on, here is one fact mind-blowing fact about Easter celebration. Perhaps you do not believe in Easter celebration as a Christian, truth is, it is not a sin, and at the same time, it does not mean those celebrating it are insane.

In fact, whether one is a believer of Easter celebration or not, it does not move or change who God is, right? See Malachi 3:6.

Truth is, we allow what does not matter a lot to get us moved. Will celebrating or not celebrating Easter give you automatic access to the Kingdom of God? Just think about it.

The Origination of Easter Celebration?

Easter celebrations in most churches, including Catholics, are centered on the biblical narratives of the Passion (on Good Friday) and the Resurrection (on Easter Sunday). They use Christian symbols such as fire (the Holy Spirit), candlelight (the light of Christ), the cross, water (baptism).

Secular folk customs have grown up around the festival in the 1900 years or so since it started. These (eggs, Easter bunny etc) were not part of the original festival and are still not part of most church celebrations. However, there is no evidence to link any of them with any pagan religion.

These supposed links are a modern invention dreamt up by people in the 19th and 20th centuries based on a single theory about the origin of the word Easter.

The word “Easter” is nothing to do with the origins of the festival as, when it started, the festival was named after the Passover – Pascha – and still is in most languages (Paques or Pascua or Pasken).

It is the name Anglo Saxon common folk gave to the festival in the 7th century (500 years after it started).

How is Easter Celebration Calculated?

Easter is calculated to follow Passover which is based on the lunar calendar. The Catholics and most Protestants use the new Gregorian calendar decreed by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 to calculate the date of Easter.

The time of Easter is based on the cycles of the moon, the equinox, and seasons and things in nature.

In simple (?) terms Easter occurs on the first Sunday following the first full moon that occurs on or after the day of the vernal equinox (the first day of spring).

What of Easter eggs and Easter bunnies? Do they both symbolize fertility and new life? More.

Education / 18 Significance Of Easter Colors You Never Knew Nor You Were Told by crackclap: 1:17pm On Apr 20, 2019
If you have celebrated Easter in childhood, you must surely remember the fun that you had with chocolate bunnies, hot cross buns, marshmallow chicks, brightly colored eggs, new outfits and bright hats that are the main Easter attractions.

As we know, Easter is a festival that commemorates the resurrection of Christ three days after his crucifixion. It is a festival that means so much more to many people. As a major springtime festival, apart from its religious importance, Easter also celebrates the end of chilly winter to herald the sprightly spring season.

Easter Colors?

Goodness me, I never knew Easter Celebration had so many colors. Truth is, there was a time when traditional Easter colors were only pastels: pink, light yellow, light blue, light green, lavender and light orange. The paradigm shift is that Easter colors are no longer one dimensional.

Today, Easter colors can be almost any color you like as long as you keep some traditional Easter flair in your decorations or table settings. However, I will go ahead to give you the 18 significance of Easter colors you never knew nor you were told.

18 Modern Easter Colors
For sure, every Easter color has a story to tell and bears a special relevance. If one is indicative of brightness, the other represents the darkness of our sins. If all this sounds interesting to you, then let’s see the 18 modern significance of Easter colors.

RED: This color is associated with the blood that Jesus Christ had shed for mankind. Thus, the color red is a symbol of love and sacrifice for the goodness of humanity.

BLACK: The color indicates the evil side. To put it other words, we can say black signifies darkness.

BRIGHT BLUE: It symbolizes heaven or sky. It also signifies the beginning of a new creation.
GOLD: it symbolizes something that is precious and valuable.

GREEN: The color green brings a ray of hope. Green is the color of grass.

GRAY: Gray is the color of ashes, and therefore a biblical symbol of mourning and repentance. It can be used on Ash Wednesday, during Lent, or on special days of fasting and prayer.

Nairaland / General / This Lion Attacks His Trainer While The Lioness Begs Him To Stop. See Video by crackclap: 1:03pm On Apr 20, 2019
Do you think lions are to be messed with?

This lion showed his trainer he’s not to be messed with. Maybe hurt him a little or just scare him until he submits.

Like a girl with her drunk boyfriend at the bar. “Babe, babe, babe. Calm down.” This is how this trainer was saved.

Coming over to lion training. Of course, the guys are professionally trained. The only obvious consideration that I don’t know is the sort of training they undergo (to train a lion). Be it as it may, this lion attacked this trainer, and he would have gone too soon but not for his senior trainer and the lioness begging & helping him out.

A Great Thought

If I’m a newbie lion trainer and I ignore the male lion’s obvious irritation with me and when he stares in my eyes I stare back basically challenging him.

Would we need a moral lesson here? If yes, let me know what you think. See the video.

Nairaland / General / See The Photo Of Notre Dame At 4:55pm – An Hour Before It Was Consumed By Fire by crackclap: 11:54am On Apr 17, 2019
Would you believe that Notre Dame was built in the 14th Century? To be precise, it was constructed in 1345, yeah, you read that right.

Tuning up to CNN, I saw a sight that looked like a fireworks, but mainnnnnnnn, it was more than that.

According to reliable course, the fire outbreak was actually caused by bad electrical work in relation to temp power for the Reno.

A spokesman for Paris police tells CNN the Notre Dame fire is now under control.

The fire burned for several hours Monday, causing the collapse of the cathedral’s iconic spire and the destruction of its roof structure, which dated back to the 13th century.

Consumed by flames, the spire leaned to one side and fell onto the burning roof as horrified onlookers watched.

French President Emmanuel Macron praised firefighters for saving the cathedral’s iconic facade and towers. “Thanks to their bravery, the worst has been avoided.”

The Photo Of Notre Dame At 4:55pm 15 April 2019

“Notre-Dame is our history, our literature, part of our psyche, the place of all our great events, our epidemics, our wars… the epicenter of our lives.Notre-Dame is burning, and I know the sadness, and this tremor felt by so many fellow French people. But tonight, I’d like to speak of hope too.Let’s be proud, because we built this cathedral more than 800 years ago, we’ve built it and, throughout the centuries, let it grow, and improved it.So I solemnly say tonight: we will rebuild it together.”
- France President said.
