Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on Saturday said his side lost 3-1 to Olympique Lyonnais to exit the UEFA Champions League because they lacked the perfection needed in Europe’s top competition.

Manchester City fell behind to Maxwel Cornet’s strike in a sloppy first half of the quarter-final match.

They then looked like their usual selves after the break and levelled through Kevin de Bruyne.

However, they were downed by two strikes from Moussa Dembele, sandwiched between an unbelievable open-goal miss from Raheem Sterling.

“It is what it is and hopefully one day we’ll bridge this gap,” Guardiola said after a fourth successive failure in the UEFA Champions League with Manchester City.

“We struggled in the first 25 minutes, but in the second half we felt free. We were there and I had the feeling we were better than them. But you have to be perfect in this competition and we were not.”

Guardiola did not complain about Lyon’s second goal, which survived a VAR review after a potential foul by Dembele on Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte.

“I don’t know, I don’t want to talk about those circumstances because sometimes it seems like I’m complaining or looking for excuses.

“We are out, I had the feeling we were incredible already, but we made mistakes in the boxes in the key moments.”

Guardiola also rued Sterling’s astonishing miss which would have made it 2-2 and they were promptly punished by Dembele’s second goal which was the killer blow.

“That moment sums up this competition, we had to equalise and after we conceded the third goal. That’s this competition, you have to be perfect.

“We created more chances, had more shots, we did everything, but unfortunately we are out again.”

Barcelona are considering their former striker Thierry Henry as a replacement for outgoing boss Quique Setien, reports Diario Sport.

The former striker is currently the coach of MLS side Montreal Impact, who he has guided to just one victory in his six games in charge.

The Frenchman previously was assistant coach to Roberto Martinez at Belgium before taking his first managerial job at Monaco, whom he tasted victory with just four times across 20 games, before being dismissed in January 2020.

Henry scored 49 goals for the Blaugrana across three seasons and is now on their managerial shortlist, which is said to include former Barcelona defender Ronald Koeman – current coach of the Netherlands.

Massimiliano Allegri (formerly of Milan and Juventus) and Mauricio Pochettino are also said to be on the shortlist, but Xavi Hernandez is not, as he has no interest in taking on the role at present.

It is reported that Barcelona will initiate contacts with representatives of Henry, Pochettino, Allegri and Koeman this weekend, as they look to refine their shortlist.

Setien is set to be dismissed by Barcelona on Monday, after the club called an extraordinary board meeting following their embarrassing 8-2 Champions League exit to Bayern Munich.

Same idiot came to my threads and littered all my post with scam alert. Someone i don't know or even have any dealings with. I checked him out to see if we have done any deal before, all ended up seeing on all his posts is accusing different people of scamming without him dropping any evidence. I wonder why the MOD has not call these guys to order. Allowing someone to just start tarnishing people's image without any evidence to back up claims. Even an arm robber caught during a robbery is innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
