So many young African girls these days, want to be top models and live the glamourous life style of Tyra Banks and Naomi, but how many of these girls actually know what it takes to "make it" in Africa? i would say very few girls make enough money from modeling to earn a living from it solely, and since Nigeria doesnt have the right structures in place for modeling, many Nigerian girls are now relocating to South Africa, doing anything and everything; due to the thriving modeling industry that exists there, but permit me to burst your bubble, most of these girls end up as escorts, prostitutes or what ever you choose to call them, and some agencies or fellow models function as pimps providing links to rich and influetial men, who bid for them...yes! i am well aware its been going on in Nigeria for a while, but its apperently more profitable in SA.

Dont get me wrong, but there are better opportunities for models in South Africa, and many of these girls have become hot cakes for top designers, due to their peculiar body and skin tone, endless legs and lovely curves, the general belief is that these girls are hitting it big due to the numerous fashion shows they feature in, and are being paid handsomely, yea...i used to think that too, till i found out from one of such models (name with held) that most of these girls are involved in prostitution at a very sophisticated level. this has been the main source of livelihood for many, who parade themselves as models.

according to her " when i started modeling (in Nigeria) it wasnt easy, we would attend castings and auditions like crazy, standing in sun and rain, some people will want to sleep with you before you get the "job"...thats why i "hustled" to go to SA and found an agency that wanted to represent me, it wasnt easy, i was living with 5 other girls in a small room and food wasnt easy, untill some of us got "jobs"...we had to do "Runs" to survive, because these men want to care of us and how much will fashion show pay? i have been living well, i have a car and i still do modeling jobs...but i have traveled around, Dubai, Milan, Newyork so many places, i have an apartment here and i have a nice house at home (Nigeria)...if i didnt do "runs" i would have been suffering, working in fastfood, cafes or supermarkets...other people do it...thats not for me.." she concluded.

It is a fact that these girls dont earn much as runway models. For every job they do, by the time the agencies deduct their commisions the girls are left with peanuts to manage. the only successful ones, are the girls who land jobs for commercials and billboards, as payments for these are usually high, even after agents deduct their commisions.
