dhtml18:Abeg, what's your github username? I'd like to follow you on GitHub |
Joavid:Actually, you first disappeared strangely (your number no longer showed anything on your profile); maybe it was WhatsApp screwing up BB users. Then my phone finally stopped supporting WhatsApp, and I've not gotten on Android yet. I was emulating it on my PC, but it stopped working too. |
@Lilyqueeny, @Joavid Here's one I like by W. B. Yeats, quoted by Sir Ken Robinson in his 2010 TED talk: Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with gold and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half-light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly, because you tread on my dreams. |
Joavid:Just try; I'll be seeing one from you. Or, if you're shy, you can just PM it on FB ![]() |
Lilyqueeny:Did you compose that yourself? I like it. Joavid, come write me a poem, please... ![]() Here's mine to all those we've lost, whether in peace or in peril; for friends and family who, being dead, cannot share our feelings today, here's one for you. The art of saying goodbye, |
ChidinmaRose:It feels like a threat to their status as the local movers of tertiary education, and their source of income. But if their source of income is the preservation and stagnation of an old order that doesn't serve us any longer, then it's worth questioning. The first move of the lobbyists was having degrees and certifications from MOOCs declared unacceptable within Nigeria. But degrees in courses taken abroad, whether by classroom presence of online presence, are acceptable. One might see it as a move to protect local educational institutions from unfair competition, but it's far from that. Knowledge is a prerequisite for national development, and denying students such opportunities by covert means is no less a crime than exploiting their already limiting ignorance. And academia is not a component of society that should be bogged down with unnecessary bureaucracy. I've had much progress educating myself by following MOOCs and other opportunities available on the internet, and I think any tertiary institution willing to de-emphasize profit maximization for a few semesters, for the growth of their staffs' and students' quality of learning, can learn from the model. I won't say exactly how since there are many possibilities. |
The new developments in education are shaking up the traditional premise of higher education within walled boundaries. Some tertiary institutions are responding defensively, while others are open to innovation. Thumbs up to ABU; I expect more from them and others. |
Someone attempted trolling a few minutes ago. dhtml18, dem don ban u again? |

You observe well, larisoft! Another undesired effect is that it has caused some developers to relegate ethics to a place quite lower than it should be. I was approached to setup a ponzi site, but I couldn't take it. I don't regret it anytime. The proliferation of ponzi schemes demonstrate the general disregard for privacy and online security in Nigeria. The guys that approached me had no decent plan to circumvent possible tracking by law enforcement. They would use their emails, bank account / debit card numbers, registered phone numbers, ... to run the scam. What might be the most destructive to entrepreneurship in Nigeria is the tendency to equate ponzi administration to internet entrepreneurship: they're orthogonal to each other, and we need to correct that impression in order to move Nigeria's tech community forward. Again, great observations, larisoft. |
dhtml18:you and that guy get serious beef so? abeg let's celebrate phpbrowserbox jorr. Seunthomas come o... it's time for the toast. To phpbrowserbox!!!

You'll really calm down after listening to Ed Sheeran's "Even My Dad Does Sometimes". Then rethink your priorities: if your family is so hostile to you, they're probably not worth your time, for now. Consider that life is much about survival -- it's why we form social bonds to increase our chances of surviving when weak. But if they despise you for being still weak, find another way. It's easier said than done, but it's worth doing. If you don't mind me asking, how was your upbringing? Was it a restrictive, strict routine around the home with the assumption that life happens fine after school? |
uzoexcel:The userland and applications are quite similar. Things get different in configuration for certain things. You have to figure out where things go because the file system hierarchy is slightly different. But it won't take long to get it. I'd say, download CentOS, install it and learn it. It's very close to Redhat; it's RHEL without the license and brand endorsement. |
Alake Terry just overdid it. Twice! You just can't accept friend requests in peace again: someone will find a way to smear your wall with borked English. This one pass Buhari style. Oya Joavid com'an see o... Thanks for acceptancing my requested for friends on Facebook. |
You can solve the challenge on the linked website. But homeboys would like to see your solutions. It's a simple problem, so have fun finding pi! I'll turn my solution in tonight. If someone has a more difficult challenge, please post it and mention the hommies: it's getting boring around here ![]() If I mention you unnecessarily (like the challenge being too easy for you), not bad: you still get my Pi Day greeting ![]() Cc: proxy20, jacob05, harby, laykhorn, appcypher, onedayatime, paranorman, DanielTheGeek, dhtml18, Jregz, seunthomas, FincoApps, cbrass, FrankLampard, godofbrowser, thewebcraft, Javanian, booyakasha, larisoft, stack1, yawatide, tr3y, Knownpal, rayval, blueyedgeek, jidez007, KvnqPrezo, Jenifa123, VenantCode, directonpc, DavidTheGeek, crotonite, Blenyo11, CodeNister, CodeHouse, logicalhumour, Asalimpo, lekropasky... |

I'll just break the screen and go find the creature running the alien casino. It's a cruel ending...remembering all I'd have done differently if I knew 'twas all a game. |
Mikechinos:Sure, you can. |
Joavid:I'm fine, you? I've been busy trying to pick up on studies lately. I hope I'll do significant work before the last quarter of the year. |
Joavid:I'm not into blogging now. Whenever I start, I might write an aggregator for bloggers in my niche, not a general one. Long time Joavid. |
Mikechinos:Then I can't give the personal touch, but everything I can do with you online you can also get elsewhere. The internet is open to you. Type in your first search query and there you go. |
Mikechinos:If you're in PH, send me a pm. Let's get started. |
Jregz:Xubuntu feels lightweight too. I really need better power management and battery life. |
DanielTheGeek, what's up with Friendosphere? It keeps returning this error: Bad Request - Invalid Hostname |
ww purplekayc:Can we get descriptive error reports and screenshots? |
asalimpo:For $2000+, I could turn a PHP ninja overnight. Trust me, I should have accepted the offer first o. ![]() |
Someone doesn't get the joke? |
appcypher:Ouch! What went wrong? I was already thinking of wining with some developer friends to celebrate the first programming language out of Africa. Keep us updated please... |
purplekayc:Give root password for maintenance, unmount your root and home partitions. Then type in 'fsck /dev/sda1', 'fsck /dev/sda3', replacing sda1 and sda3 with the partition labels for your corresponding partitions. This process will attempt to correct filesystem errors. If you are prompted to accept an action, just enter 'y'. |
