What's the meaning of this? Are they disclaiming liability totally, even for situations beyond our control? I think these clauses are ambiguous. So you are required to defend them even when they cause damages to you by their actions or inactions? Why will they not be liable for the results of the content they post on their website? I'm not comfortable with this. So the government, or really anyone who has a political mandate in any capacity, can go to them and say, "hey, I want you to give me every information you have about lala, and even the ones you don't have presently. Get them all and dump them in my laps", and they'll obediently dump your digital biography in the hands of any such one? In a country where the law has as many representations as there are scoundrels? This is obviously debatable. We cannot determine this until the whole terms, and their relationships to one another, are fully understood by us. That will involve clarifying the other ambiguous clauses first. Well, I'm just paranoid because of our common experience in the hands of MTN, Etisalat, Glo and Airtel. Can someone explain the quoted clauses to me? 2 Likes |

...Because you won't question this whole composition and ask 'how true is this'? Because you won't ask if there are other rules besides these. Because you'll probably just like and share this, and forget it ever after. Because you probably didn't understand some of the statements but just skipped them. Because you get discouraged when a subject you're studying many controversies around it. Because you neglect or are ignorant of the fundamental principles and purposes of our existence. Because you think more about the negative parts of life than the positive parts. Many things can go wrong and if you focus on what things can go wrong, you'll be too occupied to follow the things that can go right. 1 Like 1 Share |

Not all characters can be found on your keyboard. Your keyboard would be very large if all characters were on it. Learn the html character codes of the characters you want to display and use them on your page. You can also use a typesetting tool to write the equations and post a screen shot of the result on the page. Whichever way you choose to go, it's your choice. Both options have limitations and drawbacks. But combining them is powerful. |

This probe will be big and may hit some dead ends. These companies are willing to pay huge fines to cover their crimes. The government then was so corrupt that the companies got away paying meager fines that didn't go anywhere near the treasury. It was a collaboration of some politicians and some mercenaries to screw Nigeria as much as they could. The next probe, I hope, will be concerning the infamous Ajaokuta Steel Plant -- one of the most conspicuous relics of corruption in Nigeria. I hope John Grisham is following these events. Well, he has more to follow in America. But someone can do something great on it here. |

johnydon22:A science fiction theory postulates that the state of Mars resulted from an interplanetary war that had cosmic effects. It's science fiction, of course. The writer, Joseph Farrell, a Physicist, suggests that the Giza pyramid was an ancient experiment for an interplanetary weapon of mass destruction, and that a similar weapon was being developed by Mars' inhabitants at the time: a kind of arms race. Eventually, the weapon on Earth was armed and deployed, and our near cousins on Mars suffered the effect more terribly. You can find the book "The Giza Death Star Deployed" by Joseph Farrell. It seems this link will work: projectavalon.net/Joseph_Farrell_The_Giza_Death_Star_Deployed_The_Physics_and_Engineering_of_the_Great_Pyramid_2003.pdf Cute theory for fiction. |
Webmasters / Re: Why Does Airtel Data Drain So Quickly? by Craigston: 11:27pm On Feb 17, 2016 |
They are doing something I don't understand with data service. I tried this once: I bought a data plan of 40Mb at 100 naira on Airtel and I tried to download files worth less than 30Mb total. You can guess what happened. They munched my cash within 20 minutes of browsing (just locating the file) and downloading (the main thing). In the end, I got less than the file size as value for my subscription. That was just one of many ugly experiences with Airtel. I've had very similar experiences with Etisalat too. With Glo, I get almost the full value for my subscription (considering both upstream and downstream data transfer). All the tests were done on 3G networks. You're likely thinking what I think about the two Trojan networks. My suggestion is this: carry out well-controlled, accurate tests on their data quality. Repeat the tests on different devices and check whether the inconsistencies show any pattern. If it's what we suspect, report to the customer care center and demand a balance. If they fail to comply, report to the NCC. 1 Like 1 Share |

Religion / Re: 7 Values To Teach Our Children To Make Them Grow Into Godly Men And Women by Craigston: 1:28pm On Jan 31, 2016 |
"Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts, for they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday. You are the bow from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrow may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness; For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable." * Separate your children from your ideal values. Let them not receive it; let them emulate it. Place before them the good and the bad, advise them which is better, then let them decide. Know this also, that your traits determine much of theirs. Do not be surprised when they have same bad habits you had growing up because they were not born blank slates. Let them have the will to choose the right. You cannot force good behavior: few years after they leave home, all your coaxing and coercion is forgotten because the environment leaves no permanent mark on their nature. Do not force them in the way of a religion. Let them discover the beauty of it themselves while you guide them carefully. Forcing them will deprive them of the understanding of the religion and will make them either blind fanatics or confused rebels who likely will abandon the religion later. 4 Likes 1 Share |
Music/Radio / Re: 10 Songs That Are Overplayed In A Typical Nigerian Wedding by Craigston: 1:04pm On Jan 31, 2016 |
All of these songs are intended to praise the bride who is herself the sole beneficiary of the processes up to that point. It becomes evident that men who overestimate marriage over personal development live for women and do not love themselves. The society pushes them hard to be responsible for everything and everyone, and they become women-pleasing neurotics. 1 Like |

Your assertions are true except this one: "Takeaway: There is always a girl behind every successful man!" For me, the take-away is, "let people do the work but take the credit for it". If you think the CEOs of most companies do anything as much as the efforts of the unappreciated laborers they employ, then know that my take-away is correct. |

We can only make them behave in certain ways, but I fear those behaviours may not be what is ideal for our safety. Imagine what could happen should such intelligence be applied in warfare. |

ChokolateBoss:I say disruptive not in a literal way. Consider the subsequent advances such technologies could bring in several sectors such as banking and finance, crime detection and investigation, engineering, population control, agriculture, defense, transport, medicine, town planning, education and other sectors. Imagine an architect being able to produce a full design in a very short time by feeding a few variables to a computer and have an AI produce a beautiful and standards-compliant design. Consider how data could be analyzed at greater speeds and solutions to problems gotten fast. It's really disruptive. |

Blakjewelry:Yes they do. Although this field of computing is still largely unexplored, I think an early adoption of the technology can give Google a large advantage in many tech areas: its search engine will improve more; its self-driving cars will have better performance at image processing and recognition of objects; its maps service can be extended in ways we've not thought of. And the whole field of IT will be transformed as other companies adopt the technology. Imagine how disruptive this, together with the new network technologies (5G and LiFi), can be. |

The measure of respect the moderators deserve is not that accorded them on Nairaland. Each thread created is not complete without the ritualistic mention of a moderator's user-name, and lalasticlala has been a favourite target for many. I do not blame the abusers of privilege: there is no rule to restrain and the culture here encourages them - the culture that promotes compromise instead of good standards. |

Feraz:Collaboration is the defending sexy stuff for programmers. I hope Nigeria will do well in IT. And I'll be taking some courses on edX this year. What!? That's very ambitious and also very ingenious. We have all we need to become a green economy soon. We just need to harness it. I saw an article about Europe's plan to build a massive solar plant in the Sahara Desert and channel all the energy generated to Europe. We need to act fast. Partner with some Asian countries to develop the technology quickly and solve our energy problem. We can then sell excess energy to other African countries. Europe should go find their own desert. I actually wanted to study Biomedical Engineering but I'm now in bed with Computer Science. It's a wonderful world of possibilities. |

ChokolateBoss:I too have not researched much on this field (still in undergraduate studies) but I plan to. Here is a list of possible applications of quantum computing either solely or in combination with other models like HPC (High Performance Computing): www.dwavesys.com/quantum-computing/applications It's very useful for solving problems where the number of possible solutions or approaches increases exponentially with increasing variables: getting the best possible solutions in a shorter time is very important. For example, analyzing user behavior on Nairaland (e.g, the probability that a user will comment on this topic) is not an easy task. Given a small sample space of, say, lalasticlala, ChokolateBoss, Jregs Jacob05, blueeyedgeek and cbrass, it may be easier. But with each new user you add, given their various interests, the time taken to compute the probabilities of each user commenting on various sections becomes very large. (This explanation is rather vague). Another area of application is in factorization of primes (an operation useful in cryptography). That's just the little I know. I wish Nigeria can join the STEM race soon. |
