First you have to knw d system you want to enter,military structure is diff my guy,even if you re prof you will nt b place beyond your starting rank depend on d commission you enter,nigeria army have RC,SSC,DSSC and EC
RC are NDA millitary student,im sure you knw NDA right? NDA graduate can become generals in army and as well get appointment(polical) like COAS,COAS(NAF) CODS etc
SSC is a combatant comission,they can become a general too but it takes man no man to get appointmeny(virtualy impossible)
DSSC is a direct short service and you can not exeed rank of conol in army except you convert to RC before you reach d rank
EC is an executive commission reserv for only serving NCO millitary member just for compensation of hard work,outstanding characters during your service as nco,and you can b giving like lt,cpt,or mjr straight before you retire
Note that starting rank for RC, SSC is 2nd lt while DSSC is lt irrespective of your qualification,so no special treatment for Msc.
RC,SSC promotion is 4yrs while dat of DSSC is every 5yrs thats if you pass there courses,
All soldiers knows how and trained to carry gun when need arise but only RC,SSC re combatant.DSSC are office officers
