Politics › Re: Nigeria Raises Troops For Gambia, Ready To Remove Yahya Jammeh - Premiumtimesng by CriticMaestro: 7:12pm On Jan 12, 2017 |
komekn: Nigeria has international obligations as well as national ones. Nigeria will be going in to protect the rule of law and is mandated by ECOWAS.
Forward strategic planning tells us that if we allow this despot to rule illegally. Gambia will become a pariah state and a haven for Islamic fundamentalists and terrorists. Jammeh declared Gambia an Islamic Republic illegally. And in order to stay in power at all costs will align himself with any Islamic power broker that will ensure his stay in power. Such as Isis, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
That will not be good news for us, we know Boko is heavily aligned with Islamic Maghreb and I would not be surprised if Shekau is currently hiding there. Allowing Gambia to become a haven for terrorists and Islamic fundamentalism will impact on Nigeria and the region in general.
Gambia's army is not more than 1200. However, the Nigerian armed forces are heavily lacking in infrastructure. The approach of sending high numbers of troops with basic AK47 will not do. It will result in high casualties and a cause us to become a laughing stock on the international stage.
Britain has been fighting in Afghanistan for over 15 years, with a loss of 405 troops. That is 27 soldiers lost each year, compare that to our casualty figure in Boko haram each month.
If we are sending soldiers they should be properly equipped, so that just the fear of responsive repercussions will restraint any attempts by Gambian rogue forces to engage with our boys. sorry can u please tell me the number of casualities among the nigerian army since the start of the war on boko haram began and for clarity...i aint against a military intervention in gambia..all i was saying is that it shouldnt be our responsibility to invade gambia we on our own are facing an internal crisis thats long from being defeated...thats's where we should be focused on...we have more than 15countries in ecowas who can handle the job...and as per islamic maghreb myth...weapons, training and recruitment of boko haram are mostly done in mali and libya, the fall of gadaffi created one of the biggest illegal arms trade along that line |
Politics › Re: Nigeria Raises Troops For Gambia, Ready To Remove Yahya Jammeh - Premiumtimesng by CriticMaestro: 3:15pm On Jan 12, 2017 |
am not sure of our present day soldiers because the lack commitment, will and professionalism required of an average soldier.... those that served in liberia, sierra-leone etc did it for the love f country, we had a pot bellied chief of defense staff that looks heftier than an average politician at the helm of our nations defense.......secondly we lack equipments.... our military is a declining force that has been living on its previous glory until boko haram identified that weekness |

For all that these old goons are lacking in modern technical knowledge, they more than make up for in native intelligence and experience. have they younger generation been giving any chance? you are a big shame to this country....they way our leaders have taken us backwards i cant believe ur still supporting them.....i guess to you Nigeria is exactly where it is supposed to be |
