Honestly speaking, none. It's not so much the subject/course as it is the teacher that is the problem. |

Programming › Re: The Sad Truth About Programming Career In Nigeria by CryptoCoinr(f): 7:37pm On Aug 08, 2017 |
dontro: Sometimes when I see the list of skills plus years of experience demanded for programming jobs in Nigeria I begin to wonder if these recruiters/employers have an iota of idea what programming is and how many years it can take to become proficient in tons of skills they list
Am I the only one seeing this? I see job requirements like: HTML5, CSS3, ASP.NET, JavaScript, Java, C#, WordPress (development), MySql, Jquery, Ajax, Laravel, Angular, Sql Server, Oracle, Code Igniter
And before the end you'll see something like "good knowledge of C++, Python, will be an additional advantage"
One person? For $1,000,000 or for N100,000 job? Haba!
Even for $1,000,000 finding developers who are proficient in all those technologies/languages is unrealistic and goes to show how selfish or uninformed some of these employers can be.
Someone should help educate them please. It's not atypical though. Here are the requirements for two I received in an email: Front-End Developer
. . .
Requirements
- A good understanding of progressive enhancement. - A strong interest or previous experience building a company from the ground up. - A technology-related achievement that stands out from the average developer. - A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. - A minimum of 1 year of experience as a developer. Frond-End Software Developer
. . .
EXPERIENCE OR SKILLS REQUIRED
- Web software developer with a minimum of 3 years of client-side interface design and implementation experience - Traditional and modern client-side development platforms, such as React, Angular, Bootstrap, Backbone, and other similar technologies - D3.js, or other client-side data visualization platforms - Production experience interacting with backend APIs (e.g. ReST) - Modern software development tools (e.g. distributed version control, continuous integration/deployment) - Willingness to learn about image and video processing, including computer vision, deep learning - Preferred location in metro Washington, DC / Northern VA or metro Boston, remote full-time locations will be considered - 4 year degree in computer science or other relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent experience - Good problem-solving abilities - Excellent communication skills
INTERESTS OR SKILLS DESIRED
- Enterprise Java platforms (e.g. Java EE, Spring, etc.) - Elasticsearch - Image and video processing, including computer vision, deep learning - Docker - Big Data, grid, cluster, cloud platforms (e.g. Hadoop, Hazelcast, AWS/Azure, NoSQL) |
Programming › Re: A Critical Look At Nairaland's Anti-spam Bot Or Whatever... by CryptoCoinr(f): 7:25pm On Aug 08, 2017 |
Like I've said before, it bans people with no rhyme or reason and lets legitimate and continuous spam flourish across multiple threads. Simply put: NL's "anti-spambot" (the "buggybot" as I so lovingly call it) is a useless piece of crap that is way past its expiration date.
Also, the fact that the mods are completely unhelpful and pretty much worthless should you get illegitimately banned subsequently makes it all the more infuriating. |
Programming › Re: Javascript Programmers??? by CryptoCoinr(f): 10:45pm On Aug 07, 2017 |
Oops, looks like he got banned again. The anti-spambot buggybot is still as useless as ever. Muhammedbashir, if you can see this then try PM'ing Seun. |
