For accommodation, you have two main options: on-campus and off-campus housing. For a smooth transition (“soft landing”), on-campus accommodation is usually the best choice. If you secure on-campus housing, you can stay for one term and then look for a more affordable off-campus option for subsequent terms.

Finding off-campus accommodation can be more challenging, especially if you don’t know anyone in Winnipeg who can host you for one to two weeks while you search. If that’s the case, consider booking an Airbnb for a couple of weeks to give yourself time to explore housing options.

Adding to this, remember RRC is in downtown Winnipeg and a lot of downtown areas have high crime due to high drug usage and poverty amongst the native Canadian Indian population. So it means if you are doing off-campus housing it will be some distance from RRC and this could be problematic if you don''t have a car because their city transit system is not effective and punctual plus during winter which lasts 5 months, it goes to -45 degrees a lot of times. Winnipeg is the coldest city over 100k population in the entire North America (Canada plus USA). Their winter is legendary and very dangerous.

I did not post my comment to discourage or encourage anyone to come to Canada as a student. It is your money and your decision.

But honestly, I would not advise even my enemy to come to Canada as a student without doing serious research, especially if PR is the goal. I would rather encourage people to consider learning French and exploring other better pathways.

This is my fourth year in Canada. I came as a PR, and I live in Toronto. There is a school close to my house, and I have seen many Nigerian students crying and regretting their decision because of academic stress, financial pressure, difficulty getting work, and no clear pr route.

People post nice pictures on social media, but not everyone shows the real struggle behind the scenes.
Our people need to hear the truth: research properly before making any decision. Research the course, the school, the PR pathway, job opportunities, and other alternatives before jumping into the student visa route.

Also the job market is very tight in Ontario. There are better provinces for the student visa PR route. But most people due to laziness would prefer to go for the creme de la creme without doing proper research.

Flyovers are the height of their infrastructure achievements in Nigeria. Especially in the North. No plans to start local processing plants for the abundant raw materials Nigeria has. No plans to start up advanced technical acquisition schools that probably the Chinese or even Indians can use to train youths. No plans to create advanced manufacturing hubs and the supply chain needed to export manufactured items from these hubs for foreign exchange. Instead it is flyovers, hadj sponsorship, pay off bandits and sponsor mass weddings for almajiri girls.
