It is called equity contribution.

What Passage does is to provide funding/loan to cover your tuition and living expenses for the first year.

Assuming both comes to CAD 60,000 you will be required to contribute about 25% while Passage provide the remaining balance. So in this example, you will pay CAD 15,000 and they will grant you a loan of CAD 45,000 and a POF letter for the 60k.

You will now use this POF letter with other supporting documents to submit your study visa application.

Everything is not a scam simply because they are new and you have not heard about them. I have processed 2 study visa applications where the applicants used Passage loans as POF.

They will get an admission for you in selected schools and in demand programs that will help you get employment immediately. Their offer letter comes with a well spelt out repayment plan.

The reason they request for an equity is so that you will commit yourself to the process. Banks demand equity contributions whenever they finance a asset like a car or machinery for you.

Anyone saying Nigeria should take over MTN and nationalise it or force the sale of the company to a Nigerian should not forget that we have a purely Nigerian company in the Telecoms sector as well. A company that prefers spending money on celebrities than improving its quality of service. That company is Glo. Can we confidently say Glo can be as reliable as MTN?
Everybody in the industry knows that this is because of the singular way Glo is run. Has nothing to do with it being a Nigerian company. Same Glo when pack Indians full the place pass the local Nigerians? The Nigerians running MTN Nigeria are the reason it is now the number one revenue generating company in the entire MTN Group

I posted my IRCC application portal he claimed I was getting those pictures online to post that I didn't apply for any study permit that I am an agent bla bla bla.

This is my visa stamp.
Don't worry let me land in Toronto next month I will make a video.

Do not give your application to any agent do everything yourself. Ask questions when in doubt. Make use of AI.

That was exactly what I did and he is bitter about it.

I don't believe in that at all... I'm the king of using non-commercial banks for applications.

For my visit to CA, I used Rova (which is Nigerian MFi just like GREY) and a swiss online bank account and it was approved
my CA student visa, two Canadian bank accounts, a GIC, and a Lithuanian online bank account (bulk of the money) and it was approved
My parents' US visa: I used my Lithuanian online bank account only, as their sponsor failed them at the last minute so had to step in, and it was approved.

So far the bank is licensed and has the country's financial approval, and you are not cooking documents; my take is to use it.
This is my thinking plus Grey is registered in Canada as an in-country and cross border payment service provider. It is so easy and smooth to use. Love their service like mad. Please what's the tea on the Swiss and Lithuania online bank account. Why was it necessary? Details please. Thank you.

If yes, how long have you worked there?

Which course and program do you intend to study in Canada and which school?

Sorry, the questions might seem personal, but I have my reasons for asking. Nb: Got my PPA 4years ago, graduated 2 years ago
been working for various top multinationals for the past 20 years plus some side hustles. Mostly in IT. IRCC can reach them with all their available means thats not a problem. Ask grey if they have being doing it for student visa applicants especially from Africa and if they say affirmative then go ahead. If their explanation is not straight forward then use your local account but i believe they should be honest with you in order to avoid litigation.
They confirmed for student visa applicants from Nigeria, don't know about other African countries but I will assume the same where Grey offers a similar service. Been using them for years to store my FX reserve. I dont like the local commercial banks when it comes to FX because it is very difficult to move FX around with a dom account. Common pay tuition to a foreign school will take days or weeks. But Grey makes it very easy and quick. I have USD, GBP, Euro, USDT and USDC virtual accounts with them.

Yes I am familiar with grey. It is legally registered with Canada Fintrac and even in the United States therefore it should be able to provide the service and the probability of it acceptance by ircc is high.

However, I will advise you to contact grey customer support team for accurate information. Grey seems to charge higher commission and their apps have some negative comments but they re legally and internationally registered.
They said I will download a stamped and certified bank statement via the mobile app and they will provide the supporting letter however IRCC can only reach them for verification via email, not phone.

Are you familiar with grey.co (registered in Canada with a Canadian Money Services Business license), popular with Nigerian remote workers to receive salary. I have USD stored there. After I pay my tuition in full and I do a GIC for the max amount, will a Grey.co stamped statement with an official supporting letter addressed to IRCC confirming my account status, balances, and Grey's regulatory standing work? Including my Nigerian bank accounts statements?

The only option is via Credit or Debit card.
Use grey.co. Popular amongst remote workers in Nigeria who use it to receive their salary in FX from foreign employers. Grey is registered in Canada as well and even have an office there and you can transfer from your USD, EUR or GBP virtual account straight to a Canadian account. Best you contact their customer care email first to understand how to do it properly and they do KYC before you can use their services. Do your online research about them first abeg! And do as the spirit leads.

Nice. I asked because I wanted to see whether you have at least three years of work experience and if waiting will make any difference

When in Canada when the time comes, that foreign work experience can earn you up to 50 CRS points, so when the time comes, you will be able to claim those points

Whichever you choose September or January is entirely up to you. But if it were left to me, I would choose the September intake.
Appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

just curious how many years work experience do you have ? or will you have by that Septemeber and January

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Cullinane:

Anyone is fine, but if you were my brother or a close friend, I would advise you to resume in September, mainly because of the weather.

IMO you need time to get your body to that winter weather coming in Septerber will do that

if you have specific reasons for wanting to move in January, explain them and we can see whether it still makes sense in your situation...Maybe you need more time to save up for school or something like that....

It is much better to arrive in Manitoba in September when daytime temperatures average 15°C to 19°C and nighttime temperatures drop to a cool 4°C to 8°C, than to arrive in January when average daytime highs range from -11°C to -14°C and overnight temperatures can fall to -21°C to -24°C.

Coming from Nigeria to Manitoba in those January temperatures can be a very difficult adjustment, and you may end up regretting arriving in the middle of winter.
I initially wanted to start at Fall (Sept) 2027 simply because I wanted to clock work anniversary at my place of work next March but I am not keen anymore on waiting for a whole year plus. So I want to bring it forward to Winter (Jan) 2027. I am fully self-funded. I intend to pay the full 2 year tuition upfront and do a GIC for the max possible sum and present both as part of my visa application docs including other savings in USD. So it is not a funding issue per say.

Another approach is to ask your program adviser—the person who keeps you guys informed about course updates and everything related to your studies—to connect you with any outgoing student who has completed the same program.

Having a rapport with someone who has already gone through your course can be incredibly useful. They can offer valuable insights on course choices and selection and potential opportunities for teaching assistantships (TA), as well as recommend professors you might consider reaching out to with a cold email.

Additionally, connecting with outgoing students can provide a clearer picture of which term would be best to start your program. If you are considering commencing in the winter term, the weather might take you off balance at first, if you are not used to it but you will adapt in no time.
Thank you so much

There is no academic advantages for foreign students in starting school in fall over winter in Canada. There may be weather, flight ticket or shopping or other seasonal activities advantages but such advantages are going to be irrelevant or unnoticed to you. In terms of weather, some provinces or territory may be colder or warmer than the other in either season ... fall/winter but you will still experience Canada cold. Canada is generally one of the coldest countries of the world ( i think after Russia).
Thank you.

You mentioned the main advantage. The other reason is that some courses run in the Winter term requires prerequisite from courses run in the Fall term. In this case the school will specify if you can only start the program in the Fall term. If there is not specified you are good to start in the Winter term.
The targeted program starts in Winter and Fall. Thanks a lot for your feedback.

Is there any advantage starting school in Sept (Fall) has over Jan (Winter) besides entering into tough Jan winter season in Canada? Considering moving my school application forward from Sept 2027 to Jan 2027 in Manitoba. I know most international students seem to prefer to start classes in Fall.

Please remove your phone number from your post.

For accommodation, you have two main options: on-campus and off-campus housing. For a smooth transition (“soft landing”), on-campus accommodation is usually the best choice. However, it tends to be more expensive and comes with more restrictions. If you’re interested in this option, contact the school’s residence office to confirm availability before applying. If you secure on-campus housing, you can stay for one term and then look for a more affordable off-campus option for subsequent terms.

Finding off-campus accommodation can be more challenging, especially if you don’t know anyone in Winnipeg who can host you for one to two weeks while you search. If that’s the case, consider booking an Airbnb for a couple of weeks to give yourself time to explore housing options.

I hope your visa arrives on time so you can begin planning your trip and be ready to start school in September.
Adding to this, remember RRC is in downtown Winnipeg and a lot of downtown areas have high crime due to high drug usage and poverty amongst the native Canadian Indian population. So it means if you are doing off-campus housing it will be some distance from RRC and this could be problematic if you don''t have a car because their city transit system is not effective and punctual plus during winter which lasts 5 months, it goes to -45 degrees a lot of times. Winnipeg is the coldest city over 100k population in the entire North America (Canada plus USA). Their winter is legendary and very dangerous.

I did not post my comment to discourage or encourage anyone to come to Canada as a student. It is your money and your decision.

But honestly, I would not advise even my enemy to come to Canada as a student without doing serious research, especially if PR is the goal. I would rather encourage people to consider learning French and exploring other better pathways.

This is my fourth year in Canada. I came as a PR, and I live in Toronto. There is a school close to my house, and I have seen many Nigerian students crying and regretting their decision because of academic stress, financial pressure, difficulty getting work, and no clear pr route.

People post nice pictures on social media, but not everyone shows the real struggle behind the scenes.
Our people need to hear the truth: research properly before making any decision. Research the course, the school, the PR pathway, job opportunities, and other alternatives before jumping into the student visa route.
Also the job market is very tight in Ontario. There are better provinces for the student visa PR route. But most people due to laziness would prefer to go for the creme de la creme without doing proper research.
