Yes i agree. Let's all just call a truce.

Let's put it this way;

There are certain areas where ghana is better than nigeria, and there are certain areas where nigeria is better than ghana.

That's it. let's stop it there.

We are too similar to be doing this. We should be thinking about how to get rid of these corrupt old men running the system and start fulfilling our destiny. Imagine all these asian countries with no resources doing better than us.

I told ya'll my girlfriend is nigerian.she's mad at me for making fun of her country and now i think the shop is closed for me, lol, and it's a saturday too. una don cost me oo. lol.

Consider this an apology if i hurt ya'll. lol. and that includes you my special one, lol

Haha, The Truth hurts don't it?

You have all raised a myriad of funny points i don't even know where to start.

But at least we all agree on one thing, this discussion is not going anywhere. Maybe from my comments here it seems Ghanaians are proud, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Actually we don't sit to count our achievements at all. If you go to Ghana, the overriding sentiment is one of dissappointments in ourselves. Because we believe we should have done better. We started on the same level with Korea, and higher than Singapore and Malaysia at independence. But now look at those countries. So we are not proud of ourselves at all.

But in typical nigerian "we-are-the-best-fashion", someone started a thread here to imply people in ghana hate/obsessed with nigeria. I feel the need to set the record straight.

Now onto the funny points. @D.end - are you suggesting we no longer export Gold?, Check the stats, Only South Africa exports more Gold from Africa than Ghana. Infact, Gold and Cocoa usually alternate as our number 1 foreign exchange earner depending on what time of the year it is. True story. And as for your yankee returnee story?, lol, common bra, I'm sure you heard the word "Alata" which is what we call nigerians. Doyou know what that means?, lol. Let's not even get into that.

You see, i told you the only places you can afford to live are the slums. All those places you mentioned are pure slams. Nima, is the most notorious Zongo in Accra, Mamobi is not far behind. All those places you mentioned are slums and hotspots for crime. So i'm not suprised a nigerian boy is attracted to those places. I bet you spent a lot of time in the internet cafes there yeah?

Osu is not a government reserved area by any means. It is just where the official residence of the president is. No president has actually lived there in a long time. It is one of the dirtiest places in Accra. Too busy. We have built a new 60 million dollar presidential villa. Waiting for the new prez in january 09, i'm sure you've seen it since you claim to know ghana so well.

another straight lie, John Kufuor came to beg obasanjo for security?, LOL, that is laughable. What security does Obasanjo himself have.

And obasnjo gave ghana police force cars?, hahaha, where do you people come up with such stories. This is a completely false. Which cars were those?, when was it?, How can your president dash cars to us when your own police force ride bicycles. lol, this is hilarious. And what excuse did he give the nigerian people for this?

I don't deny nigerian movies are everywhere in ghana. I'm just trying to tell you how that came to be so.

THe other things i'm not even going to bother setting the record straight. I believe they are self obvious.

Like i've said already, if you've lived in the west, you know both countries are shiite. So the advice to you nigerians is to get busy and stop going around all over the place pounding your chest because the only people who think you're better than anybody is yourselves. Nobody else.
Sports / Re: Football: Between Nigerians And Ghanaians by cyril3333: 12:53am On Nov 01, 2008
Ok, i know i said that was my last post. I lied. lol.

I even feel sorry for you people now o. You embarrasing yourselves. So is that the best pictures you could come up with?, And that is supposed to impress us?, I can think of at least 5 places in Kumasi, not even Accra, which look better than that.

Look, aerial shots of anyplace can look good. especially when you take it when the sun is going down or at night. THAT MEANS NOTHING.

Haha, Are you really trying to compare lagos with Accra?, Are you out of your mind?, how can you compare dirty, filthy, stinky, chocked Lagos, with organized, horticultural, beautiful Accra. Are you kidding me?

@D.end, Ofcourse you didn't any nice place in Ghana. Because the only place your likes can afford are the slums. Accra is not even the best part of Ghana, not at all.

Ghanaians don't watch nigerian movies because they are good, or nice, they watch it because they are cheap. THis is how nigerians movies started to become common in ghana. because the ghana movie industry used to send a taskforce around to arrest people who were selling pirated copies of their movies on the streets. There was no such thing when it came to nigerian movies so they automatically became the cheap choice of the street man. And that is what they still are today.
I often see people here go, nollywood this nollywood that. Are you people actually proud of that crap?

You see, Empty barrels always make the most noise. Mention one thing in which nigeira is the best in the world?, or produces the most?, anything?, what at all is the source of your pride as a people?.because i sincerely don't understand.

For Ghana, at least we are the highest producers of Cocoa in the world.  Our economy is diversified, when it comes to primary products, we export large quantities of  Gold (they didn't call us Gold Coast for nothing), Diamonds, Bauxite, Palm Kernel, and now oil, and many more, We export electricity to Burkina Faso, Cote D'Ivoire, and Togo. Our energy future is solid,  Once we get our trans-country railway complete, we will be an industralized country in 20 years or less.

What about you guys?, What do you do better than anybody else? besides 419 that is.

Now oil is 65 per barrel. I'm sure your leaders are starting to tell their children in europe and america to start scaling back on their oppulent lifestyles because money is becoming tight, LOL
What has your oil done for you?, other than civil war?, Mind you, oil is an exhaustible resource. Nobody knows how much is left or how dificult it will be to reach. When the price of oil drops further, which it seems likely in the face of global recession, they could even decide it makes no more economical sense to drill. What are you guys going to do then?

Better start putting pressure on your leaders to diversify your economy and stop blowing jazz.

WE in Ghana don't compare ourselves to the likes of Nigeria. Nigeria, I mean how?
When you hear discussions on the radio in Ghana, we often try to match ourselves up against places like Malaysia and Singapore.
We are moving forward my friends. Hate all you want, but As Kwame Nkrumah said, Forward ever!,

And this December, we'll show you guys how to organize credible elections. Stay tuned.
Sports / Re: Football: Between Nigerians And Ghanaians by cyril3333: 9:10am On Oct 29, 2008
LOL, omg nigerians are self obsessed. hahahaha, Essien is Half Nigerian, You must be out of your mind. That is the funniest thing i've heard all year. hahahaha

The name Essien is a pure pure Fante name. From the Coast of Ghana. It is wildly common. Do you even know what it means?, LOL, this is pure jokes. b t w, unlike you guys we don't idolise individual players. We love Essien, just as much as we love Appiah, Muntari, and all the black star players. Infact, the most popular black stars player in ghana now is Junior Agogo. Why don't you claim he's nigerian too. maybe it's the name of a town in nigeria?, lololol

What exactly have you done to help us?, More than we've done to help you?, Go and ask your elders who know. When the western governments refuse to deal with Abacha, do you know who went to intercede for him?, Do you know your government was recently in Ghana to beg us to export a little electricity to u people?, Do you know your government wants ghana to establish another nuclear plant (we're already building one for ourselves) to supply power solely to nigeria because America doesn't trust you people to sell you enriched uranium?,
Do you know what will happen to your national security if we decide to close our oil refineries to nigeria?, there will be chaos. already you people queue for fuel everyday.

Now keep in mind,  none of this is for free. We're charging you for everything. Same way nigeria charges ghana for everything if we ever need something from you. When we need oil from nigeria, we buy it. it's not for free.Plus we don't buy the oil from you, we buy it from the multanational companies who drill it. This is the world of international business. Nobody is doing anybody a favor. Can you name one thing which nigeria has given to ghana for free?, nothing.

Somebody even said the ghanaian passport is useless. This coming from a nigerian?, lol, there's a lot of comedy on this site. Look, the nigerian passport is second only to Somalia in terms of insignificance. Ask ur brothers in europe and america how many of them are now travelling with ghanaian passports.

Even the oil you people are always bragging about, now we've found ours. In huge commerical quantities. Estimated 3rd in Africa.  Yes, in addition to our already strong diversified economy. Drilling is already underway. So in 2 years we will no longer need to import oil.  And we only have 30 million people to support with the huge oil revenues.  So while you guys are sitting there singing your own praises, we are fast moving towards middle income status.

The point is if you've lived in the first world, then you know both countries are shiite anyway. We both have a long to go, but we are moving forward while it seem nigerians are more content with bickering among themselves (south against north) and singing their own praises. Don't worry, we'll not forget our little neighbourhood friends when we become a superpower.lol.

Consider this my last contribution on this topic. It's pointless. We should be looking to strengthen our ties together. Not this useless cock fight about who's better. (because we all know that's ghana, lol). We have very similar cultures. Similar foods. Similar traditions. We are the only two significant Anglophone countries in West Africa (no offense to Liberia and Sierra Leone) Everytime i meet a nigerian outside ghana, i'm happy to see them. Infact, my girlfriend of two years in nigerian, and that's how i got here (she made nairaland our homepage, lol)

Truce anyone?
Sports / Re: Football: Between Nigerians And Ghanaians by cyril3333: 12:50pm On Oct 26, 2008
now isnt that peculiar that an average ghanian thinks every nigerian is a crook? enough to make it proverbial.  people know about the nigerian corruption et al; but its so outrageous in ghana it earned itself a thread here. with that, thats one place-  maybe the only place- i wont like to be.
Now that you mention it, i agree. Maybe the reason ghanaians came to view nigerians as crooks in general can be traced back to the nigerians asking ghanaians to leave their country. I imagine our fathers at the time must have been pretty appalled by this action seeing as ghana helped nigeria gain independance after we had already gotten ours.  But i maintain, this is not a generally talked about thing in ghana. Like i said, i myself never heard this, not even from my parents, until only 3 years ago. You make it sound like it was a natural disaster in Ghana and we are still talking about it till today. Which is just not the case. How many ghanaians were there anyway?, from what i hear, mostly women, most of them pregnant, and children, because they was a faminine in ghana at the time.
Nobody is asking you to come and live in ghana, but there are many many many nigerians now living happily and peacefully in ghana. No trouble at all. I don't know any ghanaians who will leave ghana today to go and live in nigeria. for what?

petty and arrogant. an average nigerian does not even care about ghana. we see ghana as very little threat in everything; so we don't spend most of the days of our lives diggin out the numerous dirty news about ghana just to make us sleep better at night.

lol, you make it sound like the average ghana spends his days thinking about nigeria. This couldn't be farther from the truth.  The original poster in the first was severely exagerating because i don't see which treads he is talking about when he says we are always talking about nigeria, I can't even mention the name of one local nigerian team except enyimba because they beat my local team painfully once.I mean, where do you get this idea that we in ghana hate nigerians? It is more a feeling of indifference, same as for you guys i suspect, except when it comes to football, at least for us. But that's it. Like i said, there a few jokes here and there about nigerians being criminals but that is all over the world. Nigeria is only ever mentioned in Ghana when there is an armed robbery. Then a few ignorant people start mentioning Nigerians and Ivorians. Even then our governments are usually quick to put a damper on such notions. There used to be a time when every prostitute in Ghana was thought of as being either Nigerian or Ivorian. That is no more because the government actively worked to remove such notions. Ghana is a very very peaceful country. Ask anybody.

What i find is that nigerians are so quick to jump on anything to say "aah, see, they hate us" . Maybe this is some sort of subliminal inferiority complex? Like one time i read on here about some nigerian passenger being asked to leave a BA flight  for interfering or something and people on here saying the nigerian president should ban them, ban them.  they hate us.  You think BA cares if they can no longer fly to nigeria?, who looses more?

il conclude that ghanians are just jealous and blindly complexed. i saw a thread where someone was hating on india for putting a man on the moon; saying that ghana, as powerful and influential in africa as she is, should have stepped up to achieve that for the whole of africa long ago. I'm like "GHANA? wot d hell! makes  them think they are better than everybody else? maybe their journalists have been deceiving them or something,  with their "ghana soon to become a first- world nation" headliners.

This is very much a case of nationalistic pride. Every country has it. When i was younger and first moved to the US, one of my biggest shocks was to find out how much nigerians thought of themselves. Many of my nigerian friends in university usually referred to nigeria and the greatest country in Africa and would passionately argue to this effect, I was like Nigeria?, wtf?, because this was completely different from the the view we in ghana have of nigeria as a country.
This is nothing new, it's just nationalistic pride. For example i often see people here describing nigeria as the best country in Africa. I'm sure many african countries will laugh at this.

And maybe you in nigeria "fear" cameroon?, because they are close to you or something?, but no us ghana at all. We don't think cameroonians trump as in anything. anything at all. Not football either. Like Cameroon?, why?
I know most nigerians think of cameroon as their football rival, but as i explained to you before, this is because cameroon displaced nigeria as the top football nation in africa in the 90s. I doubt the cameroonians "fear" nigeria. Rather they absolutely loathe the Ivorians especially Drogba, because they feel he challenges Eto'o as the best african striker, and ivory coast in general is the best african team today. At least on paper.  With us ghanaians, if cameroon beats us in a game, we chalk it down as they were better than us on the day, or we didn't play well. Not that they're better than us. at all.

This whole tread is pointless. Because you can never get any ghanaian to believe nigeria is a better country. Same way nigerians think of ghana as insignificant, from what i hear on here. So lets just leave it at that.

lol, this is a funny cus im new here but longtime ghanaweb member. im proudly ghanaian.

so you naija people think we hate you?, lol, i wouldn't say hate at all. Infact even that ghana-must-go story, which you think we hate you for, not many young people in ghana know that story o. me myself i only heard about it from a nigerian about 3 years. I had never heard about it before, and i doubt any of my friends knew about this either.

the reason it seems we are always hatin on you guys is because the average ghanaian thinks all nigerians are crooks. and we have a couple of funny sayings to this effect. Like one of them is "God is not a nigeria man" , lol, it sounds funnier in our local dilect. People say this when something bad happens to a bad person, like a thief gets hit by a car, they'll say, "serves you right, goes to show God is not a nigerian man", lol. This is no fault of ours though.Everywhere around the world, nigerians have this similar reputation. Unfairly i think. This is something you the young generation of nigerians have to work on.

As for the football, yeah there is a bitter rivalry mainly from the ghanaian side because we considered ourselves to be the best in Africa, especially west affrica, which we were in the 50s and 60s, but in the 70s and 80s, nigerian football started to rise, at the same time as ghanaian football was in a bit of a slump, and we were not happy about this so we relish any opportunity to remind you guys who is boss. These kind of sports rivalries always arise everytime there is a sort of "change in power". This is what still persists to today, eventhough Nigeria is no longer the dominant football force in Africa. Egypt and Ivory Coast took over.

And to the cameroonian, I really doubt there is any rivalry between ghana and cameroon. If you pick 10 ghanaians, you'll be lucky to find 2 who know where to find cameroon on a map. I've never heard anybody mention cameroon on ghanaweb. We usually talk about strikers we'd like to have in our team like Drogba and Adebayor. So maybe a few people mention Eto in that category, but even then, not in the last couple of years i don't think. So Don't work yourself up for nothing.
