CrimePolice Arrest Officer Caught With Beer While On Duty (Photo) by dabrin(op):
The Lagos State police command yesterday said it had arrested a police officer caught with beer while on duty.

The Guardian had on its Panorama section on page two of yesterday’s edition published a picture of a policeman holding a bottle of beer while on duty.

However, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Chike Oti, in a statement issued yesterday disclosed that the policeman, identified as Inspector Emmanuel Egba, had been arrested.

The statement clarified that contrary to the report, Inspector Egba is a police motorcycle rider attached to Area ‘M’ command, Idimu and not Rapid Response Squad (RRS). The statement further stated that on interrogation, the officer denied the allegation stating that he recovered the beer bottle with liquid contents from a driver who was drinking right inside his car in traffic.

It added that the officer posited that he feared that the driver might get himself intoxicated thereby endangering his life and that of other road users.

“The attention of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Edgal Imohimi, has been drawn to a publication on page two of the Guardian Newspaper of Wednesday September 12, 2018, in which a police inspector was caught on camera holding a bottle of beer.

“The case is, however, being investigated at the Command Provost Section and if his claim is found to be false, appropriate disciplinary action would be meted out to him after an Orderly Room Trial”, the statement said.

CrimeBricklayer Allegedly Rapes 13-year-old Neighbour’s Daughter by dabrin(op): 5:00am On Sep 10, 2018
A bricklayer, Dayo Samuel, has been arrested by the Ondo State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in the Ijoka area of Akure, Ondo State.

The 35-year-old bricklayer had allegedly been sexually abusing the victim for a long time before he was arrested.

The victim was said to be the daughter of the suspect’s neighbour.

The suspect was paraded at the headquarters of the command in Akure by the state Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Pedro Awili.

The NSCDC commandant, who said the suspect would “certainly face the wrath of the law,” explained that Samuel had threatened to kill the victim if she told anybody that he defiled her.

He said the victim, however, told her mother, who reported the matter to the corps, leading to Samuel’s arrest.

Awili said, “Abuse and defilement of minors have becoming a recurring crime in Ondo State and NSCDC has been collaborating with other security agencies to ensure that the trend is brought to an end in the state.

“The suspect will soon be charged to court after the completion of investigation.”

He appealed to the people of the state to work with the command by sharing security information so that the NSCDC could be able to deliver on its mandate.

The 13-year-old victim said the suspect used to give her N50 or groundnuts to lure her.

She said, “He would give me money or groundnuts before having sex with me. I later told my mother. It is my mother that told the civil defence people to arrest him.”

However, the suspect denied the allegation, saying the mother of the victim always quarrelled with him and had been looking for ways to get him.

“I didn’t defile the girl; the woman and her child are not telling the truth,” he said.

PoliticsChris Ekpenyong: I Will Expose Akpabio If He Dares Me by dabrin(op): 4:50am On Sep 10, 2018
A former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Dr Chris Ekpenyong, said he would unleash damning records of Godswill Akpabio’s secret deals if he (Akpabio) continued in his campaign of calumny against him.

Akpabio, a former governor of the state, was alleged to have castigated Ekpenyong (his kinsman) that he deceived him into defecting from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

It was learnt that Ekpenyong, who has been endorsed by the PDP elders and stakeholders to contest against Akpabio for the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial seat, described the allegation as baseless and self-serving attempt to score a cheap political point.

He said, “It sounds childish that someone of that level should make this kind of baseless allegation simply because I am challenging him for the mandate we willingly gave to him in 2015, which he threw away because of selfish interest.

“Assuming someone gave that kind of advice and agreed, it means someone can ask him to go and jump into the river and he would obeyed? If he (Akpabio) continues to attack me, I will unleash his records of secret deals.”

Speaking with hundreds of leaders and coordinators of one of his support groups in Uyo, Ekpenyong Volunteer Movement, on Saturday, he added that it was time for the electorate to be in the lead of rescuing Akwa Ibom and Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District from years of subjugation and underdevelopment.

According to him, the blackmailing antics occur because the PDP stakeholders in Akwa Ibom have taken a decision to enrol him as a consensus candidate to battle Akpabio and erase the sad chapter of years of underdevelopment and misrepresentation of the zone at the national level.

He said, “I am happy that generally, people know Akpabio to be an uncommon liar; he cannot continue to fool everybody all the times with his lies. I want to implore all of you to go back to your various local governments to begin your campaign for effective change in our zone.”

However, Akpabio’s media aide, Anietie Ekpong, said his boss could not have said such a thing. He asked if Ekpenyong could establish where Akpabio had been alleged to have made the remarks.

He said, “I’m not aware of the statement alleged to have been made by my boss. This is politics season, so many rumours are flying about, especially from sources one cannot trace.

“If I may ask, where was the statement made? Was it at a press conference, release, interview, rally, or where else.”

CrimeIG To Dismiss F-SARS Men Who Check Bank Accounts by dabrin(op): 4:38am On Sep 10, 2018
The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has told operatives of the reformed Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad to desist from checking citizens’ bank account details.

The IG also warned the F-SARS operatives not to invade people’s phones and laptops unless there was a court order or an instruction from the Commissioner of Police in charge of a state police command.

Speaking during a workshop in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Idris warned that any F-SARS operative who violated the new rules would be dismissed from the force.

Ibrahim, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the IGP’s X-Squad, Amaechi Elumelu, said any F-SARS operative who handled cases not related to armed robbery and kidnapping would equally be dismissed from the Force.

He said, “Under the new era in F-SARS, operatives must be professional and respect the rights and privileges of all citizens. In the past, F-SARS was considered as the most elitist and professional unit of the police force.

“In the last few years, the unit has been riddled with allegations of abuse and excesses which made the public to call for its disbandment.

“Under the reformed F-SARS, it is illegal to search suspects’ phones, computers, or inquire about their bank account details without proper authorisation.

“Henceforth, F-SARS commanders must get directives from the state Commissioners of Police before invading people’s privacy. Any officer who disobeys will be dismissed.”

The police boss said all operatives of F-SARS would undergo medical evaluation in order to guarantee their mental, psychological and emotional condition.

CrimeAbuja-kaduna Bound Train Crushes 52 Cows To Death – Police by dabrin(op): 1:44am On Sep 10, 2018
The Kaduna State Police Command said on Sunday that 52 cows had been killed by an Abuja-Kaduna bound train.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdulrahman, stated this during a press conference in Kaduna.

He said the incident took place at Kasarami in the Kagarko Local Government Area of the state.

He said the command received a distress call when the incident occurred and that he and some policemen attached to the command moved swiftly to the spot.

According to the police chief, the train was speeding and in the process crushed 52 cattle to death.

WHe added that 27 of the cattle were still alive, but had to be slaughtered and sold at low prices in order to avoid a total loss.

Abdulrahman explained that the Fulani herdsmen were on their way back to Katsina State when the incident happened.

The CP said, “When we got to the scene, we found out that contrary to earlier calls of insurgent attacks, what actually happened was an accident involving cows.

“Fulani herdsmen, who passed the night at Kasarami, asked if they could cross over with their cattle and were misinformed that there were no rail services on Sunday.

“It was when they were half way that a fast moving train from Rigasa Station on the way to Abuja approached.

“I want to assure the people of Kaduna State that what happened was an accident and no life was lost; only the cattle.

“I had a meeting with their leaders and the farmers in the area to check a recurrence.”

A journalist, Akinwunmi Dickson, and his son Nelson, 12, have been killed after fire gutted a shopping complex on Awolowo Way, in the Ikeja area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the deceased were asleep in an office in the complex when the incident happened around 5am on Sunday.

An eyewitness, Wasiu Hamsat, said the 50-year-old, who published a brand magazine, Brand Campaign, and his son were choked to death by the smoke of the fire, adding that their corpses were found at the entrance of Akinwunmi’s office.

The Lagos State indigene said, “I was asleep when I heard a noise around 5am. People were shouting that a building was on fire. We quickly called the fire service.

“When they did not show up on time, people were forced to break into the shop which was on fire. That was around 6am. But the smoke was much and nobody could enter. It was the smoke that killed the journalist and his son because the fire did not gut his office.

“At times, if there was traffic, he usually slept in the office with his child. No one knew he was inside the office because everybody was busy finding a way to put out the fire.

“Before we knew they were there, it was too late. They had struggled to open the door, but could not see anything because the smoke was much. In fact, people found them dead at the back entrance to his office.”

Another resident and witness, Busayo Adebanjo, said one of the air conditioners of a boutique in the complex caused the fire.

The 20-year-old said, “The fire started inside a boutique. One of the boutique’s air conditioners that had fault caused the fire. The owner of the boutique had travelled; so one of his boys switched on the air conditioner.

“It was that air conditioner that caused the fire and since there was no one inside, it was not easy to break into the office to put out the fire. Immediately the fire started, the state fire service was called, but the officials did not come early. Before they came to put out the fire, it had damaged many goods inside the shop.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the corpses had been taken to a morgue.

Oti said, “On September 9, 2018, around 5.20am, there was a distress call to the police control room that there was a fire at a shopping complex and a residential building on Awolowo way, Ikeja, Lagos.

“One of the shops where the fire started was completely gutted; one Akinwunmi Dickson, 50, and his son, Nelson Dickson, 10, who slept in one of the shops used as an office in the building were choked to death as a result of smoke from the burnt shop.

“Various patrol vehicles provided security. Values of property destroyed have not yet been estimated. The corpses have been taken to IDH mortuary, Yaba, for autopsy. Investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing.”

The Public Affairs Officer, Lagos State Fire Service, Mrs Bola Ajao, also confirmed the incident to our correspondent, adding that the nearest fire stations were mobilised to the scene.

She said, “Our control room were informed around 5.40am and we arrived at the scene of the fire around 5.44am. Ikeja Fire Station responded, while Alausa Fire Station provided the back up a few minutes later.

“The fire affected four shops on the first floor of a three-storyed building. A male adult and a teenager were recovered and handed over to State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.”

Crime41 Suspected Homosexuals Arrested At Bauchi Birthday Party by dabrin(op): 5:53am On Sep 06, 2018
No fewer than 41 suspected homosexuals have been arrested by security operatives in Bauchi State.

The suspects were arrested during a joint operation by men of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Bauchi State command.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Kamal Abubakar, who confirmed the incident, said the police had charged 37 of the suspects to court.

He said, “Although we gathered through intelligence reports that the suspects were homosexuals, we did not charge them to court as homosexuals or lesbians since we did not catch them in the act. But we charged them for being public nuisance since they were arrested at a birthday party.”

Abubabakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, reiterated the commitment of the police to protect lives and property of residents.

The Bauchi State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Ado Zigau, said the suspects were arrested based on intelligence reports.

He said, “Intelligence reports revealed that some lesbians and homosexuals planned a gathering at the Federal Secretariat Conference Hall. Security operatives were mobilised to the scene and they arrested quite a number of the suspects. Each security team arrested some suspects and took them to their office for interrogation.”

Meanwhile the state command of the NSCDC paraded four of the suspects.

The Public Relations Officer of the corps, DSC Garkuwa Adamu, said, “On September 1, 2018, intelligence information revealed that some group of youths suspected to be homosexuals were having a meeting at the Federal Secretariat and we swung into action and arrested four suspects.

“The suspects are Abubakar Adamu, 18; Usman Abubakar, 20; Dalhatu Hassan, 19; and Mukhtar Mohammed, 20.

“We recovered three Jincheng motorcycles, one Haojue ladies motorcycle, one generator, three birthday cakes, four GSM phones and other souvenirs during the operation,” he said.

One of the suspects, Abubakar Adamu, denied being a gay.

He said “We are not gay; we don’t have lesbians among us. I organised a birthday party and invited my friends. I sat with a female friend when I was arrested. I am a tailor and we followed due process and applied to use the Federal Secretariat Conference Hall, which they gave us.

“After we finished the birthday, security operatives came in and arrested us. But we are not homosexuals and we don’t belong to any association.”

When asked how he got money to organise the birthday, he said “I am a tailor. My customers pay me between N400 and N2,500. My friends contributed some of the items. I have learnt my lesson and I will not organise a birthday party again.”
