Family / My Wife Impregnated By Her Lover Five Months After Having A Baby – Husband by dabrin: 2:48am On Oct 16, 2018
An Islamic teacher, Abdulrazak Adeniyi, has accused his wife, Barakat, of child abandonment and adultery, sequel to which he has sued for divorce.

Abdulrazak narrated to the court: “Just five months after Barakat gave birth to our first child, I discovered that she stopped breastfeeding the baby without notifying me.

“Within a twinkle of an eye, Barakat’s ex-lover started visiting her in my own home, especially anytime I was not around.

“Shortly, Barakat became pregnant and she shamefully abandoned my house because I had stopped making love with her by then.

“This is the reason the baby started feeding on custard and milk, which I usually provide.

“In fact, anytime I went to give Barakat money for the baby’s feeding, I usually see her secret lover in the same room with her.

“Therefore, Barakat is a pathological liar for branding me as irresponsible.

“I want to pray this honourable court to give me custody of the baby because I am capable of taking care of him in my school,” Abdulrazak said.

Earlier, Barakat, in her petition, had accused her husband of gross irresponsibility.

Barakat, a petty trader, told the court that her husband no longer loved her.

“My lord, Abdulrazak is such a wicked husband who doesn’t care about what happens to me and our child.

“For two weeks, he may not even ask about the baby’s welfare,” Barakat told the court.

The Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, where the case was determined on Monday, eventually dissolved the two-year marriage between Barakat and Abdulrazak over acts of infidelity and irresponsibility.

The court’s President, Suleiman Apanpa, held that the court took its decision in consonance with the wish and resolution of both parties, Barakat and Abdulrazak.

Apanpa held that, “In the interest of peace and tranquility, the union between Bakarat and Adulrazak has ceased to be.

“Custody of the one-and-a-half year-old child of the union is awarded to Barakat, while Abdulrazak shall pay a monthly allowance of N5,000 for the child’s upkeep.

“In addition, Abdulrazak is directed to give adequate attention to the child’s education and general welfare,” Apanpa said.

Career / Oil Workers Block Imo Govt House, Demand Salaries (photo) by dabrin: 2:41am On Oct 16, 2018
Scores of workers of Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission on Monday blocked the main gate to the state Government House in Owerri in protest against the non-payment of their salaries.

The workers displayed placards with inscriptions depicting their grievances, including the non-payment of their two-months salary arrears, deductions in the payment of their July salaries and other alleged unfriendly treatment.

They accused the Managing Director of the commission, Andrew Nwoketubo, of allegedly paying lip service to their welfare.

The workers, who caused temporary gridlock on the road leading to the Government House, prevented vehicular movements in and out of the governor’s lodge.

They called for an end to what they described as “impunity in ISOPADC.”

The ISOPADC union Chairman, Sunny Nwabuo, demanded the immediate payment of their August and September salaries.

Nwabuo, who accused the government of being insensitive, said a great harm had been done to their farmlands because of oil explorations in the two oil producing local government areas in the state.

The union leader said, “While N21,000 was deducted from the salaries of drivers in the month of July, N15,000 was deducted from senior staff of ISOPADC, and N24,000 was deducted from the salaries of workers in the accounts department.

“This is at variance with labour laws. The union will make sure that things are done according to the laid down rules.”

The Public Relations Officer of the commission, Promise Eke, confirmed the protest to our correspondent on the telephone.

He, however, declined to make further comment.

Meanwhile, in Calabar, Cross River State, angry residents of Atu and adjoining streets in the Calabar South Local Government Area on Monday shut the area office of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company over non-supply of electricity despite consistent billing.

The resident, under the aegis of Concerned Residents for a Better Calabar South, stormed the PHED office on Atu Street around 7.30am and blocked the entrance.

Men, women and children displayed placards with inscriptions such as, ‘Enough of the extortion by PHEDC,’ ‘Stop sending bills without power supply,’ and ‘Your operation in Calabar South is fraudulent,’ among others.

The protesters said they were tired of the epileptic power supply from PHED while also receiving bills for electricity not supplied.

One of the aggrieved resident, Magdalene Umoh, said the electricity distribution company had no right to distribute bills when there had not been power supply.

She said, “We are here to confront the electricity company for its failure to provide the area with stable electricity even though the company has been distributing bills regularly to consumers.

“It is fraudulent; enough is enough and we cannot take it any longer. The company must live up to its responsibilities by providing the utility we are being billed for. The company should stop extorting money from us because bills without electricity are fraudulent and criminal.”

Another resident, Mathew Odok, said the protest was long overdue, adding that the residents could no longer stomach the ill-treatment from PHED.

“The PHED has shown no desire to restore public power supply to Calabar South. We are very bitter because the action of PHED has led to many negative consequences concerning the economy of our area.

“You need to see how many businesses have shut down because of epileptic power supply. They should give us light because we are paying for it,” he said.

However, while the protest was ongoing, power supply was restored to the area, which made the protesters more furious.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Business Manager of PHEDC, Calabar Office, Mr George Chinwo, proved abortive as he did not pick up calls and also did not respond to text messages.

Travel / 51-year-old Taraba Bridge Collapses by dabrin: 6:17am On Oct 11, 2018
Tragedy was averted in the early hours of Wednesday in Taraba following the collapse of a major bridge at Peva, which linked Wukari and Takum towns in the state.

Takum is the home town of a former Minister of Defence and Former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma.

An eyewitness, Mr Torsaa Chieve, told PUNCH Metro that the collapse of the bridge followed a heavy rain that lasted for several hours in the area.

He lamented that residents of Peva in Chanchanji ward along Takum-Wukari Expressway had repeatedly called on the Federal Government to fix the bridge which had become a death trap since the beginning of the rainy season this year.

Elder Joseph Kyanden Useh, a community leader, said he had mobilised youths in the area to manage the bridge to enable people access the market and called on the Federal Government to come to the aid of the people of the area, as well as commuters plying the Takum-Wukari road.

“Today is Peva market and only God knows the number of casualty if the bridge had collapsed when people were crossing it to come to the market.

“Peva remains the commercial hub of Taraba, especially when it comes to agricultural business. So government must fix the bridge to promote commercial activities here,” he said.

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Taraba State on New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), Dennis Nev, who hails from the area, said, “The bridge is central to the economy of the state and must not be allowed to be in this bad state for long. It is serving both farmers and contractor handling Kashimbila Dam project who are also constructing a power station in Wukari.

“I want to appeal to the federal and state governments to quickly fix the bridge,” he said.

Our correspondent gathered that the bridge was constructed in 1967 during the military administration of Gen. Yakubu Gowon, while Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo was the site engineer.

The bridge was said to have been constructed by the military to enable soldiers to access the 93 Army Battalion in Ada Barracks, Takum.

The rape occurred while the suspect and the child were watching TV together.

Celebrities / Kanye West Deletes His Twitter & Instagram Accounts by dabrin: 9:56am On Oct 07, 2018
Kanye West's Twitter and Instagram accounts no longer exist. The rapper's social media presence vanished yesterday, Saturday (Oct. 6).

It isn't the first time West has deleted his social media accounts without warning. He stayed off of Twitter for nearly a year, making his return this past April, and recently went back to Instagram as well.

West had come under fire as of late for his support of Donald Trump on SNL and on social media, where he also published a tweet suggesting "we abolish the 13th amendment" of the U.S. Constitution -- the amendment that brought an end to slavery when it was ratified in 1865. In since-deleted messages clarifying his words, he added "the 13th Amendment is slavery in disguise meaning it never ended" and "not abolish but. let’s amend the 13th amendment." Goodluck Kanye!
