PoliticsFayose Extends Ikere Dualisation Project, Distributes Cheques - Photos by DailyPost(op): 2:26pm On Apr 01, 2016
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has flagged off the further extension of the dualisation of Ado-Ikere Road in Ikere-Ekiti with a promise to extend the project into the town's roundabout before leaving office.

The governor, who stated this in Ikere-Ekiti, said the extension being undertaken now would be completed before the year runs out.
In a statement on Friday by the governor's Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, the governor also supervised the payment of compensation to people whose houses and structures were affected by the project.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor noted that it was unfortunate that where he left the project over 10 years ago during his first tenure was where he met it.
"I was the one who embarked on the dualisation of major roads linking the state capital, Ado-Ekiti with other towns and that included the Ado-Ikere Road. Before I came back and for about 10 years, no administration improved on the project.

"We are embarking on projects like this because it is better to use state money for the development of the state and her people. My mission is to make life easy for the people of the state and that is why we have to pay compensation before demolishing affected structures.
"We are bringing hope to the hopeless and doing the best for the development of our society. What we need is your support and cooperation. Don't allow disgruntled elements to come and cause trouble in our communities." he said.

Fayose gave the assurance that the project would be completed in a matter of months and that his administration would extend the road deep inside the town.

The landlords who were given compensation praised the governor for his determination to provide social amenities for the people despite the prevailing economic challenges.

One of them, Hon. Aluko Abayomi, said, "What the governor is doing is a sort of wonder when one takes note of the financial crunch in the country. He is still embarking on developmental projects. This is great. We appreciate his love for the people and his determination to leave the state better than he met it."
In the same vein, Mrs Juliana Jolayemi, thanked the governor for the prompt payment of the compensation and prayed for the success of his administration

PoliticsPeter Obi Is Running For Senate by DailyPost(op): 7:19pm On Mar 29, 2016
Former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi, has confirmed that he is indeed running for the Anambra Central senatorial seat on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Admitting his candidacy publicly for the first time, Obi gave reasons behind his decision to join the race to the senate in Anambra State.

He said that he is in the race because various prominent people of Anambra State, including Senator Uche Ekwunife, had piled pressure on him to run and convinced him beyond doubt that he is needed there at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly to assist his constituency and the state.

He insisted that he did not agree initially hence he went back to school, trying to figure out how to help his people but yielded when critical stakeholders explained the implications of a General abandoning his troops when they needed him most.

Speaking in an interview with Odenigbo FM at Obosi yesterday, the former governor said that notable people across the southeast geopolitical zone put it to him that his experience and exposure with wide connections would make him a good senator and he succumbed to the pressure they mounted after due consultations.

He said that he decided to run the race after putting certain factors into consideration among which include the fact that he has a good relationship with a good number of current senators who were his colleagues as governors like the Senate President Bukola Saraki, Sen Aliyu Magatarda Wamakko from Sokoto, Sen Sam Egwu from Ebonyi, Sen Ahmed Sani Yerima from Zamfara, Sen Danjuma Goje from Gombe, Sen Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from Kano, Sen Godswill Akpabio from Akwa Ibom, and Sen Theodore Orji from Abia among others.

“Senator Saraki was the Chairman of the Governors Forum and I was his deputy for three years and we moved together, did a lot of things together, so I am sure that Saraki would like to welcome me in the Senate,” he said adding that if elected, he would use his relationship with top senators to attract dividends of democracy to the good people of Anambra central in particular and the southeast zone in general.

Maintaining that good relationship pays, he noted that he was able to record great achievements in Anambra as governor because he had good relationship with people that matters.

“Through a good relationship, a senator facilitated the construction of a flyover bridge at the New Parts junction along Onitsha – Enugu expressway at Nkpor, through a senator I attracted N3 billion to a University in Anambra, through good relationship I brought MDG, World Bank, European Union, DFID and other foreign agencies to Anambra.”

The former governor who is called Okwute (stone) because of his doggedness and competence in doing things also recalled that through his relationship with the Federal Government during late president Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan, he was able to save Onitsha Drug Market from permanent closure by the federal government, facilitated the state burial for the late Ikemba of Nnewi and Eze Igbo Gburugburu Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, helped to facilitate the establishment of Innoson Vehicle plant and validated the upgrading of Enugu Airport into an international Airport.

He explained that the federal government wanted to permanently close Onitsha Drug Market following a report presented by an international organisation convincing the ministry of health that the market is the den of fake drugs in Nigeria noting that it took his decision to storm Abuja with other southeast governors to save the market from permanent closure.

Reassuring that he will fulfil his promise if elected into the senate, he echoed that he fulfilled all he promised Ndi Anambra as governor from 2006 – 2014 noting that he promised that he won’t loot and share public fund with friends and relations and he did not loot and share money to anybody, promised to pay pensioners and he did, promised to tar 60 kilometres of road annually and exceeded it, promised to revamp education and health sector and ended up carrying out a massive revolution in the sectors among other things numerous to mention.

“As governor, I fulfilled every promise I made during campaign, the records are there and I will do same if I go to the senate,” he repeated

PoliticsWike Decries Failure Of INEC To Release Rerun Elections Results by DailyPost(op): 7:02pm On Mar 29, 2016
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has decried the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to release outstanding results of state and federal constituencies were rerun elections were concluded on March 19, 2016.

Speaking on Tuesday when he received the Ogbakor Ikwerre, United States and Canada Branch at the Government House, Port Harcourt, Governor Wike said that the continued delay in the release of the results breeds unnecessary suspicion and conflict.

He said what transpired on March 19, 2016 was the will of the people of the state to resist any form of rigging and manipulation of the electoral process.

The governor noted: "We believe that INEC should no longer delay the release of the results. The more they delay, the more there is suspicion and the tendency for crisis ".

On the issue of security, the governor reiterated that that reports of events in the state are misleading. He said across the country all states have security challenges, pointing out that the case of Rivers State was being manipulated by political groups for the pursuit of ungodly goals.

He said: "All the multinationals are working peacefully in the state. All the Indigenous companies are also around contributing their quota to the state. "

On projects execution, the governor assured that his administration will execute projects that will enhance the living standard of the people. He added that projects relevant to the wellbeing of the people which were abandoned by the previous administration will be completed.

Earlier, President of Ogbakor Ikwerre, United States and Canada, Dr Fortune Woluwo congratulated the governor on his victory at the polls and at the Supreme Court.

Dr Woluwo called on INEC to release outstanding results of the rerun legislative elections. He said it is sad that the Commission is yet to release the results 10 days after the completion of the exercise.

PoliticsAPC Cannot Win Any Election In Rivers State - Wike ( Photos ) by DailyPost(op): 5:01pm On Mar 29, 2016
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the All Progressives Congress, APC, is not in a position to win any election in the state, adding that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi is merely sponsoring violence to remain relevant politically.

Governor Wike informed that with the proofs of corruption against Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation resorted to blackmailing the leadership of the All Progressives Congress that he would reveal to the public how much he invested in the party’s campaign if he was not confirmed as a minister.

This is even as the Senate Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, must release the collated results of the March 19, 2016 rerun elections.

Speaking during a solidarity visit by the PDP Senate Caucus, Governor Wike said the Minister of Transportation lost his local government area and Federal Constituency, hence his desperation to influence the release of the results.

He said: "Any person who loves Mr President won't be causing unnecessary crisis for him. We have problem in the North East, problem in the South-East, so there is no need for another problem in the South-South .

"It is good that the elections were held so that Nigerians will know the truth about the polity. If elections are held 20 times, PDP will win".

The governor decried the role played by soldiers during the rerun elections. He said the military were directly involved in the elections at polling units and at the collation centres in direct violation of the Electoral Act.

He regretted the killing of the corps member, Samuel Okonta during the rerun elections, but stressed that investigation into the type of bullet that killed him must be made public. He confirmed that the state government will immortalise the late corps member.

Earlier, Senate Minority Leader and Leader of Senate PDP Caucus, Senator Godswill Akpabio said that the victory recorded by the PDP in Rivers State is: "A clear case of justice being done by God".

While describing Rivers State as peaceful , Senator Godswill Akpabio regretted the sponsored propaganda by the opposition to destroy the image of the state. He said that there is no other political party in the state outside the PDP.

He called for tolerance in the political space to allow for the sustenance of the state's multiparty democracy.

Highpoint of the visit was the donation of N1million by the Senate to the family of Late Samuel Okonta through Governor Wike. Senator Godswill Akpabio prayed that Okonta's death would be the last during elections. He also commiserated with the government and people of the state over the death of PDP members during the rerun elections.

The wife of the governor whose NGO CAFÉ provides empowerment for indigent women and widows, and the less privileged with funding by philanthropists, cautioned the inmates about acts that can worsen their state after serving their sentence and charged them to do the right knowing that the prison term is temporal. Said she: “I don’t like to see people begging when they can easily support themselves with skills to earn a living; with what you learn at the centre you can be meaningfully engaged, be an entrepreneur, and like one of the points in the Anambra State Shared Values: “Be part of the solution not the problem.” That way, you come out reformed and a better citizen.”

Mrs. Obiano also expressed her displeasure over the news that the inmates tried to mutiny over the discovery and stoppage of the trafficking in Indian hemp inside the facility. She commended the eleven inmates who embraced Christ through the Sacrament of Confirmation for choosing to do right rather than join the illegal agitation, she stated, “ Now that you have given yourself to Christ, now that you decided to abandon the things that may have you brought here, I know you will come out of here better citizens.”

Mrs. Obiano thanked the Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha Archdiocese for donating the Skills Acquisition centre which she noted will help the inmates turn out better citizens. She also gave gifts including cartons of beverages, assorted food and ten bags of Anambra rice which she assured is of the best quality and a product of Chief Willie Obiano’s agricultural revolution in the state. She advised those who can to take advantage of the export of vegetables like pumpkin leaf amongst others.

Earlier in his Easter Message to the inmates, the Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha Archdiocese, Most Rev. Dr. Valerian Okeke, told them that Easter is a message and a victory which confirms that God the Father always have the final word. He condemned the attempted mutiny by the inmates over preference for illicit drugs and urged them to avoid such acts to avoid losing the opportunity to change their lives.
The Archbishop also prayed for Anambra State which he said is already a reference point in many aspects of governance and asked all to pray for more grace from God to help the State Governor to do well for the state to remain exemplary. He assured the inmates that the diocese will build the Skills Acquisition centre as promised and urged the Prison authorities not to hesitate to punish the erring inmates.
In his vote of thanks the Deputy Controller of Prisons, Mr. Alex Oditah, thanked Archbishop Valerian Okeke and the wife of the Governor for remembering the inmates at Easter. He confirmed that attempt by some inmates to cause disaffection was nipped in the bud and assured that they authorities ever prepared to maintain order in the Prisons and ensure there is no breakdown of law and order

PoliticsHow Buhari’s Financial Discipline Save States Amidst Fall In Oil Price- Shettima by DailyPost(op): 6:20pm On Mar 28, 2016
With the fall in price of crude oil to below forty dollars per barrel which has threatened Nigeria’s main source of revenue, Government in the 36 States would have been in serious trouble if not for the financial prudence of President Muhammadu Buhari, Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima explained before his colleagues in Kano.

Spokesman, Isa Gusau said in a statement issued from Kano that Shettima spoke at a wedding reception attended by Governors of Kano, Kebbi, Niger, Imo, Katsina and Gombe States at the Government House in Kano, soon after the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar gave out his daughter, Amina in marriage to Lawan Dahiru Mangal at a fatiha held at Umar bn Khattab Mosque in Kano.

“When the price of crude oil was over one hundred dollars per barrel, Borno State was receiving around N4.5 billion per month. Today, oil price has grossly fallen down to less than forty dollars per barrel which represents about 80 percent fall in price. Oil is our main source of revenue as a country, so ordinarily, State like Borno should have received 20 percent of what we were receiving when oil was over 100 dollars. This month, we received N2.6 billion at time oil is below 40 dollars and this is more than 50 percent of what we were receiving at a time oil was over 100 dollars.

Our salary wage is N2.6 billion but we still have to be grateful to President Buhari because wallahi if not for his financial discipline, all of us here would be in soup by now. I am not here to play politics, I respect the fact that we are a mixture of people with different political affiliations. Our brother, the Governor of Gombe State is in PDP so I am not playing politics but we have a responsibility to explain situations to the public so that they understand the economic times we are in at the moment and Buhari has made things tolerable in the face of the bad situation” the Governor said amidst ovation at the gathering.
