Abia State Government has assured the management of the International Glass Industry Limited Aba that the Government will do everything necesary to assist it. International Glass Industry in Aba, which has the capacity to employ over 5000 workers, was neglected by previous governments in then Imo and later Abia, but Gov. Ikpeazu took a bold step in reactivating it when he appointed Mr. Kelechi Onuiri as the General Manager of the Industry. Few months after his appointment, Onuiri has worked energetically and with full support of the Governor the Industry has resumed production after about one year of non-activity. Inspecting different sections of the company, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu commended the new management for implementing the vision of the Government in creating employments which is a key factor in developing the state. He said he was interested in seeing how best reactivating State own industries will attract more job opportunities and thereby grossly reduce poverty rate in the State. He hopes that as Golden Gunea Breweries will be producing soon, the company will complement it. Source http://www.viviangist.com/international-glass-industries-limited-back-in-abia-state-ikpeazu

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the rerun elections in the state have shown clearly who is on ground and who is accepted by the people. He said the rerun elections have proved that the control of INEC, Federal might, military, police and other security agencies cannot not translate to electoral victories as the people will always resist agents of rigging. Governor Wike also accused the defeated the Rivers State APC Governorship Candidate, Dakuku Peterside and his defeated running Asita Asita of hijacking results from Isiokpo in Ikwere LGA on Sunday. The governor also stated that Dakuku Peterside and his security details opened fire and killed an aide to his Chief of Staff, Mr Emeka Woke. In an interactive session with newsmen on Sunday, Governor Wike said that most military men deployed for the elections were used by APC leaders to hijack materials, illegally arrest PDP and manipulate the process. He said that the people resisted the attempt by the military to subvert the election process. "Remember I warned that today's Nigeria is not yesterday's Nigeria. Things that were done wrongly before cannot be done wrongly now. I warned that the people will resist any attempt to rig", he said . He said that it was unfortunate that the military has been reduced to this level when they will be used against public interest. He said the number of military men unleashed to intimidate and harass Rivers people is regrettable as they failed to tackle security challenges. "Now they have the Federal might, Army, Police, INEC and DSS, but we have the people" , Governor Wike said. On the conduct of the rerun legislative elections, Governor Wike maintained that INEC was not prepared in terms of logistics and planning. On the issue at the Mile 1 Police Station, the governor said that Mrs Ekwi Adebisa is the girlfriend of the APC Candidate for the Port Harcourt Federal Constituency who framed her abduction alongside APC leaders. Kebbi State Government said it has commenced the training of 100 youths in the state under its special Muzammil Project aimed at discovering and nurturing youths with talent in Kebbi. The Muzammil Project is named after Muzzamil Umar, the young secondary school student from Kebbi State who made news headline for designing vehicles made from metal scraps. Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Rt. Col. Samaila Yombe stated this in Birnin Kebbi recently while displaying to newsmen the vehicle created by Umar as well as a refurbished luxury bus and caravan. Daily Correspondents learnt that six young men under the supervision of the deputy governor customized the two vehicles from materials purchased locally. The deputy governor is a retired army pilot, an aerospace engineer and a committed car-customizing enthusiast. Col. Yombe stated that the Muzammil Project is just the beginning of the fulfillment of promises made by Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu to provide jobs designed to engage the youth of Kebbi State in connection to their interests. The Deputy Governor reiterated the commitment of the Bagudu administration towards youth development in Kebbi. He said plans are underway to get more youth in different local government areas engaged in other sectors of the state including farming and sporting activities for the development of the state and the country at large. He said the five departments under the Muzammil start-up scheme would be mechanical, electrical, upholstery design, body work/panel beating and painting. The selected youth will also study manufacturing and business management as part of the scheme. Young Muzzamil had admitted being distracted from school due to his personal projects, but the Kebbi government had assured that he will be supported and motivated to complete his education. A visibly jubilant Umar thanked the Kebbi government for all the support and attention he has received so far. Our correspondent learnt that the young car designer came into the limelight after the SSA to the Governor on New Media, Aisha Augie-Kuta reposted an online image by a former NYSC member Ajiboye Oluwaseye Kolade on Instagram. The photo was taken during his service to the nation in Kebbi State last year. The Governor and his wife, Dr. Zainab Atiku Bagudu, who showed interest in the young man's talented work, gave a directive that the boy be found and brought to the Government House. Bagudu thereafter met with the boy on Sunday 24 January, 2016 and handed him over to his Deputy, Rt. Col. Samaila Yombe, which later led to the birth of the scheme. That is the capacity I was invited. We should all go out and cast our votes, vote your consciences, vote according to the people you believe who will represent you in all the positions they area aspiring to go to”. The initiative is to be driven by the Anchor Borrowers' Programme of the CBN. Governor Ortom thanked Mr Emefiele for the N28 billion loan CBN gave to Benue State for salaries of workers which the immediate past administration left unpaid as well as the agriculture value chain loans to farmers in the state being processed. He said Benue has comparative advantage in the production of a wide range of crops including rice, sesame seeds, tomatoes, citrus, soya beans etc. "Benue is the food basket of this great nation as our state has numerous products which give it comparative advantage over others and we as a Government are prepared to provide the right environment for our farmers to continue to take the lead not only in feeding the nation but also in exporting massive products to other parts of the world. We therefore need your support to make this a reality," he stated. Governor Ortom told the CBN Governor that the Benue State Government has allocated N1 billion in the 2016 budget for the establishment of dams in different parts of the state to enhance dry season farming. He expressed the readiness of the State Government to encourage over 5,000 farmers to access the loans when the process is completed. Responding, Mr Emefiele commended Governor Ortom for his vision in agriculture, assuring him that CBN will ensure that farmers of the state benefit from its Anchor Borrowers' Programme. The CBN Governor said the loans had already been provided to about 70, 000 farmers in the country, stating that the Buhari administration has a target of creating 3 million jobs through agriculture. Governor Ortom was accompanied on the visit by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Michael Gusa, Special Adviser on Special Duties, Arc. Joe Ikyaagba, Principal Private Secretary, Stephen Amase and other senior aides to the Governor.
