Everest Amaefule, Fidelis Soriwei and Okechukwu Nnodim Three former governors in President Muhammadu Buhari ’s cabinet have said that they are not receiving pensions from their state governments . The ministers are Babatunde Fashola ( Power , Works and Housing ); Chris Ngige ( Labour and Employment ) and Kayode Fayemi ( Mines and Steel Development ) . Fashola , a former governor of Lagos State , said he did not receive any pension from Lagos State . According to his Special Adviser on Communications , Mr . Hakeem Bello , the minister recently made it clear that he ( Fashola ) had no reason to ask the Lagos State Government to stop paying him a pension when from the outset he never accepted it. When asked if the power minister would also ask the Lagos State Government to stop paying him pension, just like the Senate President , Bukola Saraki did , Bello replied , “The minister spoke on Hard Copy , a programme on Cha nnels TV on Friday . In that programme , he said you don’t ask them ( Lagos State Government ) to stop what you never accepted in the first place . “This your question was one of the questions they asked him during that TV programme and what I told you was his response .” Ngige also denied receiving double emoluments from the federal and state governments . Ngige had made a similar denial last year following a public outcry against public office holders receiving double emolument as former governors and as serving senators . Ngige said that the petition by the Socio - Economic Rights and Accountability Project to the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice , in which he was mentioned only showed that proper investigation was not carried out before his inclusion as a beneficiary of double pay from the government or it was inspired by mischief. Ngige denied drawing double emoluments from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federal Government or the Anambra State Government since he was elected and appointed at various times into public offices contrary to media reports . Ngige said that apart from two utility vehicles that were given to him some years ago , he had not accessed the privileges approved for him by the constitution as a former governor of Anambra State . Ngige , who made the comment in a statement on Tuesday , said that he had not received the severance benefits approved for former governors and their deputies by the state assembly. He said , “I wish to put it on record that since I left office in 2006 as governor of Anambra State ; throughout the four years I spent in the 7 th Senate ( June 2011 -2015 ) and currently as the Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment with effect from November 11 , 2015 , I have never drawn a dime even in the intervening period that I was not in public office , as salary , emolument and pension from the Anambra State Government ’s coffers . “In fact, I have not received any severance benefit as prescribed in the Anambra State House of Assembly law on pensions and other welfare and benefits for former governors and deputy governors , 2006 , and amended 2013 . Aside the two utility vehicles given to me some years ago , I have not accessed any of the privileges and other lawful trappings due to the office . “It is worth stating for the avoidance of any doubt that the Supreme Court affirmed that I was entitled to these benefits in their landmark judgment in Mike Balonwu and others Vs Anambra State Government , which declared me governor , de facto and de jure between 2003 and 2006.” The minister said that he was aware of the position of the law , the moral implications of receiving double emolument which was also against virtues of honesty and transparency being pursued by the government. Also , Fayemi said he had not even received his severance package from the Ekiti State Government as approved by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission since leaving office in 2014 . In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media , Mr . Yinka Oyebode , Fayemi, who is now Minister of Mines and Steel Development , said he had not received any kobo as pension. Fayemi had challenged SERAP to apologise to him for including his name among former governors receiving double remuneration or face legal action. http://punchng.com/were-not-receiving-pensions-from-our-state-govts-fashola-fayemi-ngige/

Leke Baiyewu, Abuja The Senate Joint Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff, and Marine Transport , on Wednesday threatened to issue bench warrant against the Chief Executive Officer of Glo Mobile and other firms who failed to honour its invitation on alleged complicity in the N30 tn revenue loss by Nigeria . The CEOs of the British American Tobacco Company , CCEC Nigeria Limited , Dana Group , African Wire and Allied Limited , Admiral Overseas Nigeria Limited and Aarti Steel Nigeria Limited were equally issued the warning . Others are Gagsel International, Friesland Campina, Etco Nigeria Limited , Encounter Limited , Edic Chemicals and Allied Distributors Limited , Don Climax Group and De United Foods . The Chairman of the Senate Joint Committee , Hope Uzodinma , issued the threat at an investigative meeting with some of the firms on Wednesday in Abuja . The Senate had mandated the panel to probe the alleged N 30 tn revenue leakages in the import and export value chain between 2006 and 2017 . The committee had met with indicted commercial banks as well as government agencies . The panel had on Tuesday said it had identified over 60 companies for investigation over their alleged complicity in the leakage . Uzodinma said the refusal by the firms to honour the panel’s invitation was a disrespect to the institution of the National Assembly and would not be tolerated . He said out of the 30 firms invited to appear before the panel between Tuesday and Wednesday , only 14 honoured the invitation. According to him, the CEOs are expected to cut short whatever engagement they have to honour the invitation in view of the magnitude of the investigation . Uzodinma said , “It is only in Nigeria that the Senate will invite an entity for an interactive session , particularly in a case that bothers on investigation of financial mismanagement and infractions , and the companies will be complacent. “The companies will not be willing to come or sometimes send junior officers . “I have directed and we are working with security agencies; that any company that is invited and has something to explain and refuses to appear, we will issue a warrant for such persons to be arrested . “We are giving them the final opportunity to appear and if they fail, we will issue a warrant . “In this investigation we are working with the Nigeria Police . This is because we are using their facilities to process some of our data , so that the information we will present to the public will be information with high integrity , that will not be questioned by anybody . “We have directed that they must come tomorrow , Thursday ( today ) unfailingly.” http://punchng.com/n30tn-leakage-senate-panel-threatens-glo-bat-dana-others/ |

The Kwara House of Assembly on Wednesday approved an additional N 1bn loan to boost agricultural ahead of the 2018 farming season in the state . The approval followed a request by Gov . AbdulFatah Ahmed which was presented at the House plenary by the Speaker, Dr Ali Ahmad . The House had granted a similar request of N1 bn from the executive in February 2017 for the development of agriculture in the state . According to the governor , the facility would be disbursed under the Anchor Borrowers Programme of the Central Bank of Nigeria . He expressed the state government determination to focus on agriculture as a key driver of the state ’s economy and catalyst for industrialisation. Ahmed noted that the Kwara was ecologically endowed to grow maize, soya beans , rice and cassava . In approving the loan , the House called for proper monitoring to ensure that facility was disbursed to genuine farmers in the state . It directed the House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources to ascertain the impact of the N 1bn approved earlier on agricultural activities . The House also directed the committee to produce a comprehensive list of farmers who benefitted from each constituency in the state . Apparently sick of what he refers to as the ‘ Fake News’ media , Donald Trump has set up a ‘ real news ’ show to list his achievements as president. The show , hosted on Facebook , is fronted by Mr . Trump ’s daughter -in -law , Lara Trump . As the rest of the media spoke about the recent turmoil in the White House , this programme attempted to draw attention to what the Trumps see as the president ’s achievements of the week . The first segment shows his son Eric Trump ’s pregnant wife listing these achievements . She begins this by saying : “I bet you haven ’t heard about all the accomplishments the president had this week because there ’s so much fake news out there .” In the video , which has over two million views , Mrs . Trump said she is “proud ” of the fact that her father -in -law donated this quarter ’s salary to the Department of Education , after giving it to the Parks Department in the previous quarter. She said : “This is a president who is putting America before himself .” She also pointed out that unemployment is at its lowest since 2001 , saying it was an “incredible fact” and that the “economy is booming. ” However , she did not put this in context as she did not point out that unemployment has been falling every month for six years . Praising the president, she pointed out his visits to “incredible veterans ” and claimed that Mr . Trump had created 800 ,000 jobs . She also highlighted that he had visited a hospital treating wounded soldiers and helped to “crack down” on gangs by going to see officials from the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement . Mrs . Trump then ends the show by saying , “Thanks for joining us everybody . I’ m Lara Trump and that is the real news .” http://punchng.com/trump-launches-real-news-show-with-daughter-in-law-to-showcase-achievements/
