Surgeons in the UK use the 'Mr' title.. Though the title is not protected..

Every clime has some regulated titles. You could even get arrested and fined up to £5,000 if you use the Biomedical Scientist title in the UK, when you are not one.

There's no such title as "Scientist". Same with other unprofessional titles like "Pharm", "Nurse", "Arch", "Surv" etc. The westerners that brought education here don't recognise such titles, different if you're a "Dr" or "Prof". Make una emancipate unaself from low self esteem. Having "Mr" or "Mrs" as your title is enough.

Scientist as a title exists, but it's use is not legally regulated like Prof or Dr, in most climes.

You may not like the proliferation of titles, but in Nigeria, the title exists and is captured and protected in the MLSCN Act 11 of 2003.

When I address my international colleagies and students, we do that on first name basis.
