Even nations like the UK and USA have sectors Asians are dominant in because of the principle of trading and manufacturing comparative advantage.

The concept is simple. If you do not have the human resources and expertise to produce finished goods cheaper than others can then you should buy from them, save money, and then concentrate on what you can produce cheaper and better than others to export.

So what do you have superior comparative advantage of, and why are you not forcing the Chinese to buy them and export to their country, instead of sending money out of the already malaised Nigerian economy.

I am into medical production, I buy medical equipments and source raw materials from China. You cannot send money out of China, you can only convert same to Chinese good and export out of the country. You see how smart they are?

Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Christopher Kalila says the organisation is engaging Nigeria over its stand-off with South Africa that has resulted in it boycotting this week’s conference of lawmakers in Cape Town.

Nigeria’s House of Representatives announced on Friday that it would suspend official visits and participation in legislative activities in South Africa over perceived xenophobic attacks against its citizens living here.

While SA Parliament said it had no record of Nigeria officially declining to attend the event, Kalila said the matter was raised with the CPA three weeks ago.

With more than 800 delegates attending the 69th annual conference of the CPA, this is set to be the association’s biggest ever gathering.

It’s the third time South Africa’s Parliament is hosting the event, but Nigeria will be absent.

Kalila said the matter was raised at a recent meeting of the CPA’s Africa region held in Malawi.

He told the media on Monday that an all-African nation committee has been established to deal with the matter.

“At this point, we would like to allow them to do their work, and we will be reporting their recommendations in due course when they are done. I think I would prefer that we leave it at this stage.”

Meanwhile, SA Parliament Speaker Thoko Didiza said migration issues affect many Commonwealth countries, not only South Africa.
