Most policemen on the streets are illiterate.

I was once stopped by the morons at an illegal checkpoint manned by only 2 policemen (Every legal checkpoint must have at least 3-4 men)..

In police language parlance they call illegal 2-man checkpoints - 'Two man show'.

Immediately I saw only two men, I knew it was illegal. When they stopped me, and started asking for my papers, I played along, and gave them the papers, one of them asked for my e-CMR, I told him it was in my phone as I have not printed it.

I asked them what they think the 'e' in e-CMR stands for? They were clueless, they just wanted money.

I pressed further 'Oga e-CMR means electronic-Central Motor Registry, I have the electronic copy, it is in my phone, look at it'.

They were adamant. One of them decided I must follow them to the station or drop 30k. I told them that I knew how the police works and that a 2 man checkpoint is ILLEGAL, and that I belonged to the 'Nigerian Navy Seaman Volunteer Corps" (NNSVC) (Nothing like this exists), and that I was going to deal with them and their OIC, if they stressed me.

You could see how mellow they became, I called them by their name and rank- They love to call themselves 'Operative!' in order to hide their identity when extorting people.

I was like 'Operative John, you are a 1-star ASP, let's go and see your DPO, I am sure he is an SP or CSP', let him tell me he asked you to set up a Two man show here, I want hear it from him directly..

They were mortified and became instantly friendly, and started looking for an exit out of the quagmire.

'Oga, I know talk say I go arrest you, na joke I dey o' our team leader go patrol, he dey come, you can go Sir'.

I just laughed and shook my head, while I zoomed off.. On my way back, that illegal checkpoint disappeared..
