Golden Eaglets’ tactics confounds FIFA Study Group

Emmanuel Amuneke came to the on-going FIFA U-17 World Cup as one of the rookies in the coaching business, but the former Barcelona star has been able to confound even the ‘experts’ in the game with his unorthodox tactics that has made everybody to sit up and take notes.

After Sunday’s 3-0n defeat of Brazil, the FIFA Technical Study Group (TSG) saddled with the responsibility of ‘monitoring international matches and identifying latest footballing trends’ applauded the tactical savvy of Coach Amuneke for the ease with which they dispatched the Samba Boys.

Desmond (Desi) Curry, a member of the TSG, had sought out Amuneke ahead of their trumping of the A Selecao of Brazil at the Estadio Sausalito to explain briefly his seemingly obstructive tactics which have confounded opposing teams at this tournament.

The team, according to TSG’s elderly man from Northern Ireland, has brought to bear a new trend with varied styles and deployment of players when ‘having or not having the ball,’ hence the need for clarification.
“Sincerely, we (TSG panel) have tried to understand the tactics you are using but it is confusing,” Curry told Amuneke
matter-of-factly.

“I have done some of your matches here but it is unusual to see a Number 10 (Kelechi Nwakali) playing deep as much as we have seen your player here.

“This is a new trend and we are going to include some of your explanations in the Technical Report of the championship because the tactical approach of your team stands out,” he noted.

That is, FIFA Technical experts had to consult Amunike to help them understand his tactics. It was extraordinary and confusing.

As I said, he is up there tactically with Guardiola and Enrique and you are talking of Rohr.
grin grin grin grin. Guardiola? Enrique?? grin grin grin.
C'mon thegoodjoe. If this is what you sincerely believe, then I'm not having this argument

Oga Joe, I no say nobody fit win una for argument but you made some grand statements not backed up by data or facts. Saying Rohr knows he is not Amunike's mate in tactics isn't a fact sir. Yes he has attended training courses and had some successes but I don't think he has a better cv than Rohr at this moment. Could he, of course he can and I am rooting for him to achieve a lot more as a coach.
Oga thank you. He makes this fallacious statement often. He cannot back up with fact. The fact say you attend "Kings college" no mean say you sabi book pass person wey attend "ojokoro community high school"

PS: I hold nothing against Amunike but I will only rate him when he prooves that he his a good tactician at a decent level. For now he hasn't done ENOUGH for anyone to conclude that he is a good tactician

TheGoodJoe:

Tell me how Rohr is tactically better when you guys are up and down screaming for a tactician to support Rohr.

In your statement, you literally said nothing, that is why you had to pay it with you want to hear word.

Very simple brief, Amunike played and trained under the La Masia tactical system. A coach with versed knowledge of the most superior tactical art in the game today.

Despite that, Amunike kept building his tactical knowledge with repeated courses.

There is a reason why FIFA made him one of the members of their technical committee for the growth of football.

Even Rohr knows he is not Amunike's mate tactics.
So this is why Amunike is tactically better? > grin grin

Nigeria is a country you are good at something and people do not like you for that.

If we want to go on pure merit, Rohr cannot compete with Amunike in coaching.
How is Amunike tactically better?? Abeg make we hear word. On what ground did you come about this conclusion??

It's the regular fare here to engage in sometimes needless comparison between players even to the point of ridiculousness and then the argument will rage for days. I won't indulge in that because clearly that's where your question will lead to: comparison between Osimhen and Haaland.
So if Osimhen as he is now is a Monster Machine to you, fine. He is a fine striker to me but not a monster machine. Finito

Not really. He was the joint highest scorer in Europe last month and is currently co-leading the Europa league in goals scored. Also one of the top scorers in Serie A. Every Napoli game he commits himself 110%, wins penalties, scores, makes decisive passes, scrambles defenders, etc.

He truly is a monster machine.

i want to be sentimental a bit here. Ighalo scored some very important key decider goals for the SE.

I dunno how you'd rank an African 9 though, but knowing how disappointment trail qualifiers for big teams, i won't mind taking key goals over many unimportant goals. Don't get me wrong. Its the same way Mba gave us a key goal that gave us Afcon, that's my angle.

This sentimental feel get as e be sha.

Osimhen has 7 goals and 6 assists in 13 matches for Nigeria yet we are still looking for a 9?
I think it's 8 goals actually. Nigerians are funny set of people. Ighalo all of a sudden is now the benchmark for strikers in the SE. Haba how many goals ighalo even score for super eagles??

I agree with you, i would not have remove iheanacho though.
The 4231 and 3412 suit us better. If we must play iheanacho then we should switch to a 3412 formation. Trying to accommodate iheanacho by playing him slightly behind the striker in a 4411 system is killing our expansive wing play and to me this system isn't the best. Our wingers cannot express their self better in a 4411 system.

If truly you saw the game yesterday and still claim we weren't bad, then, it's either you an arsenal fan or you simply just hate the truth. Saying we were bad is even an understatement. Heck!! We played CAR and their goalkeeper was basically on holiday throughout the game. Did we even muster a shot on target??. I know it's difficult to play against a team that keeps a low block, but haba we no try atall.

JohnBullMySon:
No be only Onuachu, If na Maduka dey for goal, we know wetin dem for talk grin grin

You watched the match right? TBH were we bad as team, as many people claim here?

My only problem is that we become disorganized close to goal when we are not counter attacking. Whenever a team parks bus against us, It becomes difficult for us to attack. I will also attribute luck here. Somehow even all with all the good crosses we had, we hardly turned one into a chance.

Am I the only one who thinks Onyeka's display today made him look like the better DM for eagles ahead of Ndidi? Being a DM isn't just about interceptions and tackles, and Onyeka showed it today with more flair. Ndidi has never been this impressive to me, playing for eagles
He played against a team that was only interested in defending. CAR midfield was non-existent . I will keep a watch full eye on him when we play against a better team.
