2016/2017 SESSIONAL EXAMINATION RESULTS AND MATTERS ARISING
The Senate of the University of Ibadan at its meeting held on Monday, 19 March 2018 and Tuesday, 20 March, 2018, considered the results of the Final Year and Non-Final Year Results for the 2016/2017 Session, respectively.

We are delighted that the performance of our students was generally good. In particular, a total of 142 of our Final Year students earned a First Class Honours degree. The Faculties of Science and Technology tied in the overall best position with 37 students in each of the Faculties finishing with First Class. Twenty one of our students in the Faculty of Law earned First Class; this is the best ever result by the Faculty since its establishment 38 years ago.

The number of first class from other Faculties include Arts (16), Agriculture (cool, The Social Sciences (cool, Education (7) Renewable Natural Resources (4), Public Health (2), Basic Medical Sciences (1), and Clinical Sciences (1).

Similarly, in the unclassified degree programmes, a number of students had distinction in various courses. These include 13 students in Bachelor of Physiotherapy, 13 in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and 18 with Bachelor of Pharmacy.

It is worth mentioning here that the graduating students of the 2016/2017 Class were admitted into the University of Ibadan between 2011/2012 and 2013/2014 academic sessions, depending on the specific course of study, through a very rigorous and highly competitive Post-UTME.

Empirical and verifiable data available at the University of Ibadan have shown convincingly that there has been a considerable improvement in the quality of students admitted into the University since the Post-UTME template was introduced during the 2005/2006 admission exercise.

The withdrawal rate at the end of the 100 level at the University of Ibadan had dropped from an all-time high of 12% before the introduction of Post-UTME to less than 2% (i.e. Success Rate of 98%) during the 2015/2016 session.
Unfortunately, there was no Post-UTME for the candidates admitted during the 2016/2017 session. This has been largely responsible for the comparatively poor performance of our students admitted during the last session as shown in Fig 1.

The total number of students in the cohort was 2,998.

It can be observed that students in the science-based disciplines in particular did not perform too well, with the pass rate being lowest at 67.5% at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. On the other hand, the Humanities-based discipline posted better results, with the best coming from the Faculty of Law at 99.2%.

For the entire University, the overall success rate averaged 85%.

As can be seen from Fig 2, some 328 students, representing 10.9% of the total, have been advised to withdraw from the University for their inability to meet the minimum condition approved by Senate. In other words, one out of every nine of the 100 Level students did not meet the minimum condition to retain their studentship.

Moreover, another set, comprising 115 students, were unable to meet Faculty requirements and have been advised appropriately to apply for change of course.

With the restoration of Post-UTME for the new intakes, we are optimistic for an improved performance for the new students due to enroll at the beginning of the 2017/2018 session.

Moreover, Senate has taken a number of strategic decisions aimed at a continuous improvement of the standard of training and learning at the University of Ibadan. Implementation will commence with immediate effect.

All students are encouraged to apply for and collect their academic transcripts as soon as possible.

While congratulating those who performed excellently in their examinations, we send best wishes to the others.

With kind regards, always.

Piliferous layer gives rise to root hairs in young plant with time it is filled with deposits of cabin cells (dicots)which form a cork with dis explanation c and d as been erased abi
It is an extension of d cortex and epidermis... B cancelled
Answer A... Y because cuticle are only found in leaves old leaves to be precise dat y we have curricular transpiration if it is found in d root den it can't take part in transpiration process
Secondly it is only lenticel Dat can be found in both stem and roots not cuticle (it's like a water proff covering in thick leaves) or stomata......... I rest my case
seriously, plant stem does not have cuticle..you need to do some research...although cuticle are mainly found in leave, some stem have cuticle..Even,some aeriel root has cuticle...BT their cuticle is thick not thin..that's why the Answer is (A)....I made a mistake the other time saying root does not have cuticle..

But you know that the force that the car will exert will be more than the weight of the trailer plus frictional force??
No sir..The car will exert a force on the truck and the truck will exact the same force...if the force exerted by the car is greater than the frictional force, the truck will move...if not,the truck won't move...its like you pushing a wall..u exert a force on a wall and the wall exact the same force on you..the greater u exact ur force, the wall push back with same opposite force..if the force you exerted is greater than the static frictional force of the wall, the wall will move but that does not means you have exerted a greater force than that of the wall....its better if I explain verbally..

Which of the following is false about the piliferous layer of a root?It
A has a thin cuticle
B is the outermost layer of the cortex
C may bear root hairs
D breaks down with age
E is replaced by cork in old roots
..only stem and leave has cuticle..and its function is to prevent water loss cos it posses cutin which is impermeable.. The root of a plant is submerge so,no cuticle is needed..pilferous layer is found at the root cap( outermost layer of the cortex).. They produce extension finger like called (root hair) and they breakdown with age...am not sure of E..but will go for A

D is the answer! Considering other options, if the force exerted on both body is the same they will still be in a state of rest (inertia) . So an additional force must be exerted on the car to cause motion.....
another application of newton third law is a body falling under gravity. Assuming a man fall under gravity, the Earth exert a force of on the man while the man exert the same force of equal magnitude but of opposite direction on the Earth..According to F=ma,they both accelerate but the acceleration of earth is very small(can't be seen) compare to that of man which is 9.81..this is due to the fact that the earth is so massive compare to that man....the force they exerted on each other does not cancel..

the answer is "A" sir...what you stated is a misconception of newton third law...Newton third law state that if two body interact, they exert equal and opposite force on each other... Three condition need to be met..the force must (1) be in opposite direction (2) of equal magnitude(3)and act on opposite body..the 3rd condition is what many ppl don't understand...The force does not cancel each other cos it does not act on the same body...since same force is applied on both, the body will accelerate base on difference in their masses..in which the car will accelerate more than the truck in order to tow the truck since its mass is smaller...F=ma

E infinite
..The answer is E..infinite...the charge stored by capacitor is very small..as u know, the flow of charge per unit time is current...so the current flowing is small compared to the resistor connected...so the resistance is infinite...
