Health / 8 Normal Body Changes To Expect During Pregnancy!!! by Damian2016: 7:28am On Jan 30, 2017
Pregnancy, when it happens at the right time, can be one of the best moments in a woman's life...the expectation of motherhood can be so exhilarating and satisfying for the woman that she becomes intoxicated with joy. For some women, it is a time when they have unrestrained freedom to demand anything of their liking from their husbands without being denied them.

However, even with all the thrills and joys that come with pregnancy, if you are experiencing it for the first time, it can prove a very weird, surprising and even dreaded experience, as your body often undergoes dramatic changes just so that the pregnancy reaches term successfully. When you at least know what to expect, the element of surprise is taken off and you can better adapt to the changes that come with it.
Below are 8 common body changes associated with pregnancy and its progression to term;

#1. Food craving: also known as pica, this is one spectacle you witness that humbles you greatly. And yes, it is true that for some women the craving is so strong, twisted and weird to the point of them munching down nails, phones, stones or other strange articles of food. At other times, they can wake their husbands up at 3:15am to go and buy suya for them or else there would be war! And by the time the poor man returns with the suya, she doesn't want it again, she wants boli (roast plantain) instead. What is actually the cause of this craving, you may ask? Well, there is no consensus, in the medical at least , as to what the actual cause is, but then, a common theory out there that tries to explain it is this one: that pregnant women have this craving due to a deficiency or lack of certain minerals or nutrients in their system. For example, it is believed that the craving of spicy foods may be indicative of sodium defficiency while ice cream may suggest calcium defficiency. Even with this and other theories that exist, pica still remains a mysterious phenomenon.

NB: in some women, it is the opposite, food aversion, that occurs. It is so dramatic that their pre-pregancy (before pregnancy) favorite food or meal can suddenly become utterly repulsive such that they can puke just by thinking about it or perceiving the odour.

#2. Increase in body weight: there is usually a 15kg increase in body weight during pregnancy. This is in addition to the weight of the growing fetus. Of course, because of the increased physiological demand during pregnancy, there is a compensatory increase in weight to meet up with the demand. This increase is perfectly normal and is usually reversible, with conscious efforts though, after pregnancy.

#3. Mood swings: well, the explanation for this is not far-fetched as well: a surge in hormone levels. With pregnancy comes a rise in pregnancy hormones. This surge is often associated with mood swings. For some women, they can become mildly depressed, while others just experience a persistent, 247-round-the-clock spike in crankiness! And if you are a man experiencing this sudden weird behaviour from your wife, have no fear. She is still very much sane. Just the hormones messing up her mojo. In any case, it is a very normal occurence in pregnancy and not a cause for worry or reasom enough to invite the psychiatrist over.

#4. Full, heavy or painful breasts: the breasts become fuller and, occasionally, tender. This is because, while preparing for birth and lactation, the breast tissues undergo massive proliferation and become engorged with lots of milk, enough to last the baby for months (well, that's if the baby's father doesn't share the milk with him/her).

#5. Increased frequency of urination: this one can weird you out if you are not expecting it. Imagine rushing to the toilet every now and then just because you don't want to pee on yourself. Some women, even before they grudgingly rise from their beds, leak out urine. What causes it? It's the growing fetus. Because the womb rests on the bladder, the weight of the enlarged womb (with the fetus inside) bears down on it and the resultant pressure causes you to urinate quickly. Also, because the body retains a lot of fluid, increased urination is the body's compensatory mechanism to tackle it.

#6. Morning sickness: this is one of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy. Suddenly, you realize that you are so powerfully nauseous and are unable to hold back the urge to puke, coupled with some mild malaise. At times, you wake up from the bed and dash straight to the bath or toilet to puke. For a majority of women though, it is hyper-salivation (sialorrhoea) that occurrs: they can fill up a tank with saliva in minutes! This is more pronounced in the first trimester (first 3 months of pregnancy) and they are all very normal and expected occurences during pregnancy.

NB: some women experience what is known as hyperemesis gravidarum, that is, excessive vomiting during pregnancy. This group of women are to be promptly and properly looked after by a doctor, as several complications can arise from it.

#7. Fluid retention: this often presents as swollen legs and or hands. And it is due to the retention of fluids in body because of increased physiological demand. Again, the growing fetus exerts pressure on the veins (the inferior vena cava) which in turn impairs return of blood back to the heart. When this happens, the veins of the lower limbs become distended and filled with blood that is not or only going very slowly back to the heart. You can actually relieve this by not standing upright for long and lying down on your left. When you sit, you can elevate your legs on a stool as well. All these help to reduce the swelling.

#8. Skin changes: also included to the list of body changes seen during pregnancy are skin changes, and they include,

-Stretch marks: seen especially on the abdomen and on thee sides of the breasts. About 90% of all pregnant women experience stretch marks during pregnancy.

-Pregnancy glow: for some women, they experience this shine or glow during pregnancy. This is due of increased blood circulation through the veins.

-Pimples (acne): some women experience an amazing and terryfing sprout of pimples!

-Varicose veins: these are visibly engorged veins seen in the legs because the veins become stretched and distended with too much blood.

-Melasma: also known as the "mask of pregnancy", these occur as dark small spots or patches on the face during pregnancy. Occasionally, the nipples and areolar become darker and more pigmented as well.

The above changes are generally considered as normal physiological occurences that often resolve after birth. Now, except in a few cases like hyperemesis gravidarum where the woman and her baby may be harmed in the process, these are changes with little or no harmful effects, and as such, they shouldn't cause anyone to panic.

Health / Health Alert!!! 15 Symptoms You Must Never Ignore!! (photos) by Damian2016: 12:53pm On Jan 28, 2017
There are symptoms and there are symptoms. Some symptoms are benign and can be conveniently tolerated without serious consequences. However, there are those other symptoms that, even when tolerable or seem to appear benign, are indicative of very serious, life-threatening medical conditions or emergencies. These are the symptoms that everyone must quickly identify and notify their doctor about...without delay!

Below are 15 of those "please-don't-play-with-this-symptom" symptoms:

#1. Chest pain: this is chest pain that is often left-sided, crushing or gripping in nature and radiating to other parts of the body such as the neck, jaw or left arm (seen in myocardial infarction and heart failure). Regardless of whether it is left or right-sided or whether it has the other features listed above, any episode of chest pain at all must be reported to your doctor.

#2. Swollen legs: this is swollen legs that is not the result of trauma or injury. This type of swelling is usually on both legs, painless and forms an indentation when pressed. It is more pronounced in the morning and reduces significantly as the day progresses. It is often a sign of heart, liver or kidney disease.

#3. Coughing of blood: also known as hemophthysis, this is one symptom that must appear on your checklist of symptoms. Coughing of blood is often indicative of a serious injury affecting the lungs or more commonly, it is indicative of complicated pulmonary tuberculosis or advanced lung cancer.

#4. Passage of blood-coloured urine: it is very abnormal to urinate blood or urine stained with blood, so when this happens, you must take it seriously and talk to your doctor about it without delay. It is often indicative of a urinary tract pathology such as ballder cancer, urethral injury or infestation of the bladder with Schistosoma heamatobium. Very commonly, it could be a symptom of kidney disease or even a renal nalignancy.

#5. Passage of blood-stained stools: this is known medically as hematochezia. It is an alarm symptom that must be reported to your doctor. Hematochezia is often symptomatic of lower gastrointestinal bleeding, bowel or rectal cancer, severe hemorrhoids, etc. If you are 50 years and above, and you witness this symptom, please don't wait a minute before contacting your doctor.

#6. Convulsion/seizure: any form of convulsion or seizures are a medical emergency! When a person is convulsing or seizing, it is mandatory that the seisure be promptly aborted. This is because, for every episode of a seizure activity, a part of the brain is fried...like dodo, and normal function of it can never be fully restored. Brain tumors, head traumas, infections (meningitis, cerebral malaria), drugs and epilepsy are very common causes of seizures.

#7. Difficulty with breathing: this could present in the form of chest tightness, very slow respiratory rate (bradypnoea), or shortness of breath characterised by gasping. Asthma, pneumonia, damaged lungs (from trauma, pneumonia, cancer, or TB), pulmonary embolism, massive air or fluids in the chest cavity or even heart diseases are very common reasons while one may experience difficulty with breathing. Asthma, pulmonary embolism, fluid or air in the lungs and heart failure are potentially deadly conditions that often present as difficulty with breathing.

#8. Severe abdominal pain: conditions like ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm, perforated typhoid, perforated gastric ulcer, ruptured appendicitis, gallstones, etc are some of the causes of a severe, intense, abdominal pain. And tragically, almsot all of them are potentially deadly conditions, and as such they require emergency care when suspected. Report to your doctor when your abdominal pain becomes intorably and intensely painful.

#9. Post-menopausal bleeding: it is very usual for women to experience occasional blood spots or mild bleeding immediatly after menopause. This is due to the hormonal changes associated with menopause.
However, when the bleeding becomes recurrent, and in some cases periodic, then it is time to alert your doctor. Why? Because it could be symptomatic of a genital tract cancer e.g endometrial cancer.

#10. Unexplained weight loss: if you untentionally lose 10% of your total body weight in the space of 6 months, then your doctor must be notified...especially when you are not obese. This is very important because it could be a sign of a cancer, TB, HIV, hyperthyroidism or any other terrible and potentially fatal disease.

#11. Breast lump/dimple: if you ever discover a lump in your breast(s) or you notice a breast dimple, alert your physician about it very quickly. This is due to the simple fact that there is an association between breast lumps/dimples with breast cancer. Occasionally, these lumps are benign and not a cause for worry. However, when they are indicative of a cancer, it is very important that they are diagnosed very early when successful treatment can be achieved.

#12. Persistent fever: fever is commonly associated with an underlying infection e.g TB, HIV or even cancer (lymphomas). If you have fever that's is persistent and has been on for at least 7 days, please consult your doctor for immediate medical evaluation.

#13. Chronic cough: this is any cough lasting more than 3 weeks. When this is associated with sputum production, you must note the colour of the sputum and even the smell, in some instances. Are there traces of blood on it? Does the sputum smell so badly? Is the cough worse at night or during the day? These and more are some of the questions your doctor will ask you when you complain to him/her about the cough. So it is important you understand and note the pattern or features of the cough.

#14. Yellowish discoloration of the eyes: also known as scleral jaundice, this may be indicative of a liver pathology such as hepatitis or liver cancer. It results from the build up of bilirubin in the blood, which on its own can be very toxic. And again, it also co-occurs, occasionally, with with the passage of very pale stools. Usually, before you notice it, one or two persons close to you would have drawn your attention to it. Considering the fatalities associated with hepatitis, this is one symptom you want to quickly verify with your doctor.

#15. Snoring: this can be caused by sleep apnoea- a sleep disorder in which a person experiences moments of complete absence or cessation of breathing lasting for a few seconds to one or more minutes. Usually, the person is not even aware of the snoring and only gets to know about it when someone draws his/her attention to it. Because their sleep is often interrupted and disturbed, they wake up the next day feeling very tired. This condition, just like the others above, is potentially deadly and must be promptly addressed.

The above symptoms may not be entirely inclusive, they are some of the very common symptoms around, associated with the greatest fatalities, that people often take for granted.

NB: the safe thing to do, as a health conscious person, is to notify your doctor about your symptoms, for professional assessment, regardless of whether they are tolerable or not. Health / 7 Symptoms Of Hypertension You Must Tell Your Doctor About!!! by Damian2016: 5:23pm On Jan 25, 2017
Hypertension kills about 7.5 million people yearly! This is more than 5 times the number of deaths attributed to HIV and AIDS annually. Even with the growing awareness on hypertension, the fatalities associated with it is persistently on the rise, especially in third world countries where lack of an adequate healthcare delivery system impairs early diagnosis and prompt management of the condition.

Notoriously famed as the silent killer, hypertension, at its earliest stage, is often symptomless, and sufferers never get to know about it until very late into its progression when a lot of terrible complications begin to manifest. In order to avoid the tragic and very preventable deaths that result from it, it is very important that one is vigilant and immediately notifies his or her doctor when any of the following symptoms are noticed:

#1. Chest pain: this is a chest pain that's often described as left-sided, gripping in nature and occasionally radiates to and is felt on the jaw or left arm. Even when you are not hypertensive, this is one symptom you don't want to ever ignore! This is because hypertension or high bp has been associated with increased risk of myocardial infarction and heart failure.

#2. Severe headaches: mild headaches are usually the first symptom of long-standing hypertension. This nuisance of a headache is often tolerable for most people. However, when the headache becomes too severe and unbearable, then alert your doctor immediately! One of the most feared complication of a high bp is a stroke (hemorrhagic stroke), where a blood vessel in the brain ruptures due to the high pressure of blood flow. When this happens, a very severe headache, which gets progressively worse, ensues. Occasionally, following this headache is an episode of syncope (fainting): the patient collapses and loses consciousness. Report this symptom to your doctor asap!

#3. Difficulty with seeing or eye pain: often described as blurry vision, this symptom is indicative of severe hypertension that has damaged the small blood vessels (the retinal arteries) of the eyes leading to a condition described as hypertensive retinopathy. If not promptly addressed, this condition can progress to complete blindness! So if you are hypertensive, and you suddenly notice that you are having difficulty with seeing clearly, then talk to your doctor about it without delay.

#4. Pounding heartbeat: medically known as palpitation, this is one symptom to never ignore. It can be provoked at rest, but it is more associated with physical activities. In fact, even an activity as mild as sweeping the room is enough to make your heart pound so loudly that you are forced to take a break from whatever you are doing to catch your breathe. This pounding of the heart is often associated with feelings of anxiety as well. Suffice it to say that this symptom also occurs in other conditions that are unrelated to hypertension such as stress, caffeine consumption, thyroid disease, anemia, certain drugs use and exercise, however, when you are hypertensive, you should and must tell your doctor about it.

#5. Easy fatiguability: this an extreme weakness of the body that often follows very mild physical activity like combing your hair, walking a few meters or climbing the stairs, and it is a symptom of heart failure, a complicatiom of long-standing and poorly managed hypertension. Eventually, the weakness, if not promptly looked into and addressed, can become so severe that even the mere act of lyingly down and doing nothing causes severe discomfort.

#6. Bleeding from the nose: nosebleeds, also known as epistaxis, are often a symptom of an hypertensive crisis and must be taken very seriously. At this point, the BP would have exceeded 180/110mmHg. Of course, there are several causes of nosebleeds, but when they occur in a hypertensive patient, then it must never ignored. Very often, when this happens, other symptoms such as severe headache and blurry vision also accompany it.

#7. Swollen legs: this symptom may be a direct consequence of heart failure or kidney damage, both of which can be caused by hypertension. The swollen legs are often persistent, painless and form an indentation when pressed.

Health / 8 Early Signs Of Depression!!! by Damian2016: 11:27am On Jan 15, 2017
Source: www.DoctorsHub.com.ng

A few days ago, I was on Facebook, going through posts by friends...basically trying to keep up and know how they were doing. And while I was doing this, I came across a post by a friend that really touched me. He had posted that he was kind of down, sad and depressed, and that people should help him with ideas and suggestions on how to lift his mood. Shockingly, all but one person, made fun of him and joked about his condition. Some even took it afar...advising him to go get himself high with alcohol and marijuana! Feeling both sad and angry, I reached out to him and offered the little help I could. But then, that experience had a profound lasting effect on me. It thought me that, most times, the only thing some people need, to help them overcome their challenges, is a listening ear- someone who genuinely listens to them without judgement.

Tragically, that experience is just one among thousands of others out there. A sad depiction of how we take our mental health for granted. Today, so many people out there are very sick and in need of help. But because of our obsession with superstitious beliefs (taboos about mental illnesses) and our nonchalance for health generally, we often abandon them to their fate.

Just sad.

Anyways, here...a few depressing facts for your digestion:

Do you know that over 800, 000 people die yearly as a result of suicide? And that for every 3 suicides, 2 have depression as the reason behind it? These statistics are depressing, but they are facts. Nigeria is currently experiencing a rise in suicide rates. This worrisome rise is not unconnected to the fact that we exhibit a shocking lack of interest in our mental health.

According to WHO, depression is a common mental disorder, characterized by sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, feelings of tiredness and poor concentration.World over, about 350 million people, of all age groups, are said to be depressed! And contrary to the belief that depression is a rich man's disease, depression is as rampant among the poor, even more so, as it is among the rich.

Here are the 7 early signs that may help you identify a depresssed loved one/colleague/friend or one who's on the brink of a depression,

#1. Prolonged feelings of sadness: this is different from normal sadness that usually lasts for a short period of time. The sadness of a depressed person is usually persistent and must have been ongoing for at least 2 weeks. The person is persistently gloomy and despondent 247! Nothing brightens his or her mood. You see him/her for first time and you can tell all is not well. As a rule: not all sad people are depressed, but all depressed people are sad...always.

#2. Lack of interest: this one is actually shocking and worrying. Someone you know, who loves and deeply enjoys a particular experience or activity, suddenly goes cold. No more interest. And it happens so suddenly that your mental alarm gets ticked off, leaving you worried with a lot of unanswered questions.

$3. Social withdrawal: you have that friend or loved who has, only recently, started avoiding social gatherings without a genuine reason, and in a way that gets you worried? Observe them very closely. They may be depressed. Look out for the other signs of depression and if indeed that person is depressed, quickly REACH OUT to them asap before it is too late.

#4. Sleep disturbance: usually, depressed people often have sleep disturbances. For some, it is insomnia (sleeplessness) while for others, it is narcolepsy (oversleeping). Which ever it is, always look out for other constellating signs that will support your suspicion(s).

#5: Personal neglect: someone who is usually a fashionista by calling or a neat freak by profession, suddenly transforms into a slob: clothes are dirty, hair unkempt, body is out of shape and every other thing a complete mess. There is absolutely no motivation for them to want to a
There is absolutely no motivation for them to want to appear neat. Life suddenly loses its colour and everything becomes hopeless. Cause? Depression.

#6. Feelings of guilt and worthlessness: he or she persistently demeans himself/herself. They blame themselves for everything. They are overwhelmed with a profound feeling of guilt....to them, they are the world's greatest failures. Even their previous achievements becoming meaningless and forgotten.

#7. Absent-mindedness: you are talking to them about a topic that should naturally make their eyes light up and their ears stick out, instead what do you see? They are absorbed in their own worlds....completely lost in thought and oblivious of reality and their immediate environment. You shout their names severally but until you touch them, they do not hear you.

NB: suicidal thoughts/ideation is usually a sign of a very serious and prolonged depression (major depression). If you are having thoughts of suicide or you know of a person who is always talking about and has some of the signs listed above , please don't hesitate in getting help, either for yourself or for that person. Ask for help. Talk to a doctor ( visit www.doctorshub.com.ng and have a doctor attend to you).

Thanks for reading!

Health / 10 Common Drugs To Avoid During Pregnancy!!! by Damian2016: 6:45am On Jan 14, 2017
Source: www.DoctorsHub.com.ng

SIMPLE RULE OF THUMB: when you are pregnant, always ask your doctor before taking ANY drug! And by "ANY drug", I mean any drug, regardless of whether it be suppliments, over-the-counter medications or prescriotion drugs.

Of course, doctors understand that pregnancies are usually a very difficult experience for most women. Mothers-to-be often complain of a plethora of symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, stomach pain, fatigue, swollen legs, etc, . And because of this, they practise self-medication: taking countless number of drugs at the same time without prescription! Tragically, this seemlessly ordinary act of self-medication often carries very damning consequences for both the mother and baby.

The process of pregnancy is a very delicate one. During pregnancy, the growing fetus is highly susceptible and vulnerable to the harmful effects of a lot of drugs, substances and food products. A lot of these drugs often cause severe complications: birth defects, stillbirths, miscarriages and other terrible effects to the mother, baby or both.

Regardless of whether these drugs are prescription drugs, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs or food supplemets, it is extremely important that pregnant women pay very close attention to the medications they take.

Below are some 10 common drugs, some of them over-the counter drugs, that must be avoided during pregnancy;

#1. High dose Aspirin: high dose aspirin is aspirin in excess of 100mg. Aspirin is an NSAID and can be, occasionally, used to treat or prevent some peculiar conditions when given in low doses. Not withstanding, it can also prove a very dangerous drug when taken at a high dose. Never take aspirin on your own without first asking your doctor.

#2. Halofantrine: is an antimalarial drug. Also known as Halfan, this drugs is contraindicated in the first trimester (first three months of pregnancy) because it can damage the heart of the developing fetus. The drug of choice for malaria prevention during pregnancy is sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine.

#3. Ibuprofen: this drug belongs to a class of drugs known as NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Antiinflammatory Drug), and is often used for treating mild to moderate pain (e.g period pain, toothache, etc). However, when used in pregnancy, ibuprofen has been shown to cause premature closure of the fetal ductus arteriosus, oligohydramnios, fetal renal impairment, pulmonary hypertension, and prolongation of bleeding time.

#4. Flagyl (metronidazole): is an antibiotic used for treating vaginal discharge caused by bacteria and for treating diarrhoea. The first 3 months of pregnancy are the most delicate and flagyl must be avoided during this time. It has been associated with the development of cleft palate.

#5. Tetracycline: is commonly used for treating bacterial infections like urinary tract infections, gonorrhoea, etc. It is NEVER to be used during pregnancy and even after pregnancy when the mother is breastfeeding.

#6. Aminoglycosides: are a class of antibiotics and are known to cause permanent deafness in the developing fetus. They also cause severe kidney injury to the mother and her unborn baby. Examples include gentamicin, streptomycin, etc.

#7. Mercury-containing bleaching creams: mercury is a very toxic metal and the mere act of using it as a skin bleaching agent is enough to seriously harm both the mother and her unborn baby.

#8. Nicotine: is often found in cigarettes. Although, there are now specially made nicotine drugs, known as nicotine replacement therapy, for tobacco addicts. In any form it comes, nicotine is, just like alcohol, very harmful to the developing fetus. Avoid it as much as you can during pregnancy.

#9. Thalidomide: this drug used to be the number one cause of birth defects in newborns. However, its circulation has been largely restricted and banned in most countries. Even so, it is still available. This is one drug you want to always say a big NO to at anytime during pregnancy.

#10. Cocaine: lasts long in the body and can cause serious harm to your baby even if you don't take it during pregnancy, but were in the habit of taking it regularly before pregnancy.

Although the above list is not completely exhaustive, it captures some of the very common drugs out there, that are unsafe for the pregnant woman and her baby. Again, some drugs not listed here can equally cause serious problems when abused or taken during a particular trimester. The best and safest thing to do is to ALWAYS consult your doctor before you take anything, no matter how small or inconsequential it is.

Health / Popping That Pimple On Your Face Can Kill You!!! by Damian2016: 8:45am On Jan 12, 2017
Source: www.doctorshub.com.ng

So allow me to scare you a bit with some staggering fact: the mere act of popping that growing pimple on your face can kill you!

Yes, it is true.

I know pimples (also called zits and medically known as acne) can be very vexing when they start sprouting on your smooth face like yam seedlings on a fertile soil after the rains....and you are consumed with rage and the sickening urge to just grab them, squeeze them and pop the life out of the suckers! I know how it feels. And really, it's a wonderful feeling when you succesfully pop a ripe one and have your hands smeared with a mixture of blood and stinking white mater. Such a feeling!

But then, even as you enjoy that experience of popping, you may be unknowingly planning your own death. Because just one unfortunate singular act of it or misadventure, can kill you so fast you would wish you had AIDS instead!

Now let me just briefly explain how pimples are formed and why they have an inexplicably strange love for the face unlike other body parts and why they have a remarkable potential to assassinate you when popped.

Read on.....

Pimples form when dead skin cells mix with sebum, an oily substance secreted by the sebaceous gland found under the skin surface. This mixture plugs and blocks the sweat pores, causing a swelling.
Occasionally, bacteria can grow on the mixture leading to an infection and pus formation.

Quick question: why do pimples affect the face more than any other body part? Why not the soles of feet or nails or abdomen or whatever? Why the face of all places?

It is bacause the face has the highest concentration of sebaceous glands than any other body part. Naturally, the more sebaceous glands there are, the more sebum there will be and the more likely it is for pimples to form.

WHY YOU MUST AVOID THE URGE TO POP THAT PIMPLE?

There's a part of the face often referred to as the Danger Triangle of the Face or simply the Triangle of Death. It is called the triangle of death because any infection within that triangle can cause you to die. No joke.

Okay, why and how exactly does this happen?

It is because of the peculiar anatomy of this region of the face. Blood vessels within this triangle of death drain (flow) to the back of the head, at the base of the brain. Lots of sinuses (cavities within a bone or tissues) are found here and they make it very easy for infections to spread from the skin to the brain.

When you pop a pimple, you are not merely scarring your face or inflicting pain on yourself, you also introduce bacteria from the surrounding skin and your fingernails into the damaged skin. These bacteria can spread to infect the sinuses (sinusitis), eventually reaching the brain and snorting life out of you if not diagnosed and treated early.

Until another time,
Ja mata ne.

Health / Menstrual Pain: 5 Things You Do That Make Your Mp Worse!! by Damian2016: 12:42pm On Jan 11, 2017

Menstrual pain, also medically known as dysmenorrhoea, is an experience every woman of reproductive age dreads. For a handful of them, it is an experience that often leaves them physically and emotionally exhausted...a certified Debbie Downer on steroids! In fact, MP is the number one culprit of work or school-related absenteeism in about 10-15% of the female population.

Of course, because pain is a subjective experience, some women feel the cramps much more than others. Even so, there is no denying the fact that MP can prove excessively annoying and discomforting, especially during the first 48hrs of one's period.

While most women feel the pain at different levels, there are certain factors which make the cramps worse in some women than others. These factors are often daily habits popularly enjoyed by these women.

Without further ado, here are the 5 things you do that make your MP worse,

#1. Excess sugar consumption: many a young woman have a sweet tooth, especially when they are on. For some of them there is this powerful food-craving that overtakes them during their periods...very similar to the food-craving seen during pregnancy. Well, if sugar and other sweet food articles are what you crave during your periods, those foods are likely the cause of your severe MP. So you may want to severely reduce your sugar intake when you are on.

#2. Smoking during or before menstruation: yes, that famous stick of death also has, to its list of negatives, menstrual pain. Because the nicotine in the ciga functions as vasoconstrictor on blood vessels (i.e they shrink blood vessels and make them tighter and narrower), they reduce the blood flow to the uterine structures. And beacause of the reduced blood flow, more tissue death occurs leading to more release of chemicals which cause the cramps to occur. So if you are a diehard smoker or just started smoking, that ciga in your mouth is likely the cause of your recent severe MP.

#3. Coffee consumption: coffee is one of the commonest sources of caffeine. Caffeine is chiefly used as a neurostimulant i.e it increases alertness and wakefulness. But one of the side effects of caffeine is blood vessel vasoconstruction, just like the nicotinine in ciga. So while most people would rather die than not have that cup of dark, strong-smelling, and steamy coffee, you may want to tone down your consumption of it during your periods until you are dry.

#4. Over-stressing yourself: let me tell you something, people: too much stress can kill you or anyone else. But just before it does there are many harmful ways it affects your system, one of them being exarcebation of your MP. Personally, I FEEL MP is stressful enough. Don't make it worse by worrying yourself to death or adding unnecessary pessures (be it from the office, work, relationship, etc) on yourself. That time of the month is the time for you to just try and cool off. Let go all the worries.

#5. Eating foods that get you bloated easily: cheese, milk, ice cream (yes, even ice cream) cake, fatty meat, suya, junks, etc are some of the foods articles you want to avoid during your period because they make the MP worse. So instead of that temptingly delicious slab of fatty meat or that unbelievably tasty slice of cake, it is good practice to eat appropriate and light....fruits are usually a good choice of food at such a time.

Even though the above listed factors are not totally exhaustive, as there are other factors such as being obese, family history of MP, early age of menarche (first menstruation) and nulliparity (not bearing offsprings, they are the most easily modifiable. And as such they are factors that any woman can start working on right now for a less painful MP.

From the little i know, except your joystick is extremely small, I don't think it is the most important factor when it comes to satisfying your woman....it has more to do about skill. In any case, if you are lasting 2 mins or anything less than 4mins (according to WHO), then you have premature expulsion and that should concern you.

I may not be able to offer you help here, but I know www.doctorshub.com.ng has an amazing team of doctors attending and responding to issues like yours for free....24/7.

Health / Skin Bleaching: 6 Facts You Must Know Before You Start!!! by Damian2016: 8:29am On Jan 11, 2017
Gone are the days when skin bleaching/whitening was considered a culture shock. Today, skin whitening is considered a luxury, an expensive addiction and a tool for attracting and winning over desirable members of the opposite sex. This is despite the fact that there is damning evidence and an abundance of health-related articles espousing the dangers of skin bleaching.

Skin bleaching or skin lightening is the practice of using special creams or methods on the skin to make it whiter or paler. It is a very common practice world over, although it is more common among blacks who often do it, not necessarily for its health benefits, but for the simple reason of wanting to attract potential mates.

Regardless of whether you are for or against it, there is no denying the fact that skin bleaching has come to stay. In fact, it is a multi-billion dollar industry with massive potential and an impressive annual growth rate. According to WHO, Nigeria has the largest market for bleaching creams (over 75% of Nigerian women bleach their skins!). Surprisingly, this practice is unrestricted to women alone: men, as well, are now very active participants.

Many of people bleach for different reasons, whether it's because of uneven skin tone caused acne scarring, age spots, dark circles under the eyes, some other skin condition, or whether it be for attracting potential lovers. Regardless of the reason(s) for bleaching, it is very important that it is done within the boundaries of moderation, and not abused.

Below are 6 facts you must know before you embark on that skin-bleaching joruney:

#1. Not all skin bleachings are bad: contrary to popular beliefs that skin bleaching is ONLY done by those who are morally corrupt and of low self-esteem, skin bleaching often has useful medical applications. Doctors often prescribe ( although under strict guidelines) bleaching creams for skin conditions such as melasma, hyperpigmented scars, severe acne, skin spots associated with aging, etc. And really, for sufferers of these skin conditions, skin bleaching proves a useful remedy.

#2. Your skin type determines how well your skin bleaches: Not all skins are the same. According to Fitzpatrick Classification of skin colour, there are six different skin types: type I (very fair) to type VI (very dark). What this means is this: your skin type determines how much melanin (the hormone responsible for skin colour) your skin has. This very important bacause melanin concentration is often used as a metric for determining the extent to which SAFE bleaching is practised. For example, people with skin types I to III, with small amounts of melanin, are more easily and properly bleached than people with types V or VI skin. So before you storm that pharmacy shop demanding those strange, fancy creams, do yourself the great favour of knowing your skin type: consult your dermatologist.

#3. Bleaching creams containing hydroquinone, steroids or mercury are toxic: most European countries have banned the use of hydroquinone, or mercury as active ingredients in bleaching creams. This, primarily, is due to the fact that these compounds have been found to be very toxic. Hydroquinone, the commonest bleaching agent, has been found to cause skin cancer while mercury is the deadliest of the 3, as it is known to damage the liver, brain, kidneys, immune system, heart, eyes, etc. Don't kill yourself bleaching. If you must bleach, do it right and healthy. Always check the labels of the creams you are buying, and if you see any of the 3 compounds, drop it! If you must bleach, do it well.

#4. Getting exposed to sunlight affects bleaching: it is counterproductive to overexpose yourself to sunlight when bleaching. This is because bleaching creams make your skin very sensitive to sunlight. The creams readily react with sun rays and cause severe skin damage.

#5. Use of natural bleaching products lessens the side effects: of course, you can decide to use conventional bleaching creams and still achieve similar results as the natural products. But at what cost? Conventional bleaching creams are the primary reason why the health community strongly preaches against skin bleaching. So if you must do it, go 100% natural! This is because natural skin bleachers like vitamin A, vitamin C, kojic acid, arbutin, licorice, etc are safer to use than hydroquinone or mercury-laced creams.

#6. Skin bleaching causes serious side effects: the problems associated with skin bleaching are very grave. Even more so when creams containing hydroquinone, steroids or mercury are used for very long periods of time. From skin cancer to mercury toxicity, to bleach burns, to skin thinning and allergies, to coke and fanta skin colouration, the list is endless. So just before you bleach, be aware of these potential side effects and the risks involved. This awareness of the risks, perhaps, would restrain you from abusing bleaching products and endangering your life. If you must bleach, do it according your skin's ability and need for it. Bleach responsibly!

Health / Dealayed Ejaculation: Causes And Treatment by Damian2016: 7:48am On Jan 10, 2017
Source: www.DoctorsHub.com.ng

Even though delayed ejaculation is the 3rd most common male sexual disorder, it is the most underreported and untalked about male sexual disorder! The reason for this may not be unconnected to the fact that mainstream media and pornography constantly depict unrealistic sexual performance feats, hence making most men with delayed ejaculation to consider it a blessing of some sort...a formidable magic wand capable of reviving the boredom and sexual unsatifaction of women! Not so. As a matter of fact, some DE sufferers, by the mere act of denying the existence of this problem, often experience severe physical and mental distress and relationship problems with their partners.

Read on....

Delayed ejaculation, also known as impaired or retarted ejaculation, is defined as prolonged sexual stimulation or intercourse that lasts longer than 30 minutes before ejaculation occurs. It can be classified either as lifelong or acquired. Lifelong DE is seen in men who have always had it from day one (from their very first sexual experience). Acquired DE develops later on in men who have had a normal ejaculatory time, hitherto. Although, a handful of sufferers eventually get to achieve ejaculation by masturbation or sexual stimulation without penetrative sex, this is usually not the case.

And while most men can reach climax during masturbation, there are plenty who can’t orgasm during intercourse, no matter how hard they try (medically known as anejaculation) and an even larger number who take a very long time to get to the point of orgasm. Usually and for this group of men, delayed ejaculation becomes problematic and a cause for worry when it starts causing them distress or frustration, or if they have to stop sexual activity due to fatigue, physical irritation, loss of erection or a request from their partners.

NB: Most men usually ejaculate at an average time of 5.5 minutes during the first round of penetrative sex. This very normal. A handful can reach about 15 minutes or so during the first round especially when with new partners or when using thick condoms. So unless you are averaging less than 4 minutes before ejaculation, you shouldn't worry yourself to death out of fear for premature ejaculation (PE). I think our ladies should know this as well and stop making unrealistic sexual demands of their partners just because they read some fake news or watched some doctored blue flicks that said men must last 2 hours straight! (Just watch out for my next article on PE).

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF DELAYED EJACULATION?

1. Psychological problems: such as depression, anxiety, fear of pregnancy, cultural and religious restrictions, mental conditioning (some men can actually psyche themselves not to cum and this can cause a temporary DE for them), etc are some very common psychological reasons for DE.

2. Relationship causes: relationship stress, lack of excitement, sex with a new partner (situational delayed ejaculation), poor communication about sex between partners all, at different extents, cause DE.

3. Pornography and masturbation: pornogrpahy is like cocaine to the brain! Eventually, the excitement you derive from it is much more than the one you get when you engage in real sex. This often leads to disinterest in real sex leading to DE. Masturbation, on the other hand, reduces the sensitivity of the penis from vigrous and prolonged stimulation with the hands.

4. Old age: the is not necessarily a cause. It is more of a risk factor. DE is more likely to be seen in a 50-year old than in a 25-year old. So the older you are the more likely you may complain of DE.

5. Medications: certain antihypertensives, antidepressants, antipsychotics, diuretics and anitconvulsants have been known to cause DE. In fact, some men suffering from premature ejaculation are now using some of these drugs for their premature ejaculation.

6. Alcohol: chronic and excessive alcoholism, apart from causing other numerous health dangers, is also a cause of DE. This is because alcohol is a CNS depressant and also crashes blood testosterone levels. These two mechanisms significantly impair normal sexual function and often cause DE.

7. Medical/surgical causes: diabetes, spinal cord injuries, pelvic injuries (in which pelvic nerves are damaged), hormonal problems such as hypothyroidism, complication of prostate surgery, retrograde ejaculation (a condition in which the semen goes into the urinary bladder instead of getting ejected via the penis),etc all play in major role on the development of DE.

TREATMENT OF DELAYED EJACULATION
Treatment is mainly based on the cause of the DE. Psychological causes often require the help of a psychiatrist, through counselling and often involving both partners. In fact, most sufferers have been known to significantly do better when they elicit and get the services of a sex therapist (via psychotherapy or behavioral therapy or both). This is known treatment modality is known as sex therapy. Please visit www.doctorshub.com.ng to have one of our doctors attend to you.
Also, treatment can be in the form of discontinuing or replacing any of the above mentioned drugs that are known to cause DE. Similarly, for an alcoholic, drastically cutting down on the alcohol or outright cessation of alcohol consumption may be the only treatment you need.
For those with medical or surgical causes responsible for their DE, treatment is usually with the aid of medications (e.g cyproheptadine, buspirone) or with surgical intervention or both. After series of tests and detailed investigations, your doctor decides the best treatment plan for you.

In summary,

-DE is any sexual (penetrative sex or masturbation) activity that lasts longer than 30 minutess before ejaculation is achieved.

-It is the 3rd most common male sexual disorder after impotence and premature ejaculation.

-Very often, it results in undue frustration, fatigue, low libido, inability to achieve pregnancy in a couple or other terrible psychological problems.

-Common causes include psychological problems, alcohol, medications, relationship problems and health-related causes such as diabetes, prostate surgery, etc.

-The treatment depends primarily on the of the DE. However, most patients have shown remarkable improvements following sex therapy and beavioral modifications.
