No fewer than three worshippers at the Synagogue Church of all Nations, Ikotun, Lagos State, have been confirmed dead after a stampede on the church’s premises on Saturday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the victims were part of a crowd that struggled to see the church’s General Overseer, Prophet Temitope Joshua, during a special healing service.


Our correspondent gathered that while two of the victims were identified as Emeka Okonkwo and Emmanuel Oherin, the third victim had yet to be identified.Their corpses were said to have been deposited in a morgue in the state.

An eyewitness, who did not want to be identified, said the stampede occurred around 4.30am.

He said, “It was the church’s annual deliverance and healing programme. Usually at this time, the church becomes a beehive of activities as people come in their thousands to see the prophet for miracles.
“People lodge in different hotels surrounding the church. And they all arrive at the church very early.
“There is a canopy on the premises where worshippers are screened before they see the man of God.“However, on Saturday, after being screened, the crowd was much and they started struggling through the doorway to see the prophet. In the process, three people collapsed. They were rushed to the Isolo General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead.”
Another source said the two victims were identified through their phones, adding that the third victim did not have any means of identification.

“Their families were immediately contacted and they identified them. The police from the Ikotun division were also contacted,” he added.

A police source said the corpses were taken in an ambulance, adding that the Ikotun Divisional Crime Officer and the Area Commander, Area M, accompanied them to the mortuary.

When a Punch correspondent called a telephone number spotted on the church’s website, another official with a foreign accent, denied the incident.
She said, “Nothing happened on the church premises yesterday. Nobody died. Nobody. Thank you.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, however, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were ongoing.

She said, “The story is true. Investigation is ongoing as we await the result of the autopsy. For now, we are treating the case as sudden and unnatural deaths.”

A recent study by Booking.com of 17,000 participants revealed many areas where people feel so good about going on a trip and the benefits it gives.



The study shows that 77 percent go on vacation to boost their happiness and refresh their emotional well-being. It also revealed that many people preferred vacation to any material possessions or social activities. That is why 56 percent of the participants chose to spend their money travelling and 48 percent love to get away from home to enjoy delightful locations.


The result shows 50 percent believe going on vacation is more important to them than getting a good job, while 49 agreed it’s more exciting than their wedding memories. 51 percent of the participants love travelling than going on dates.


Of the study, 72 percent agreed that they are emotionally uplifted by the excitement of exploring a journey. Few people make advance enquiries on their trip as 56 percent are most excited doing it themselves when they are ready.


Surprisingly, 62 percent of the participants are more excited to leave office for their holiday.

Shawn Achor, a happiness expert says: “In a world where every dollar and hour counts, travellers are looking for a higher return than ever on their investment of time and money.


Why take time off and pay money to be more stressed and less happy? The data highlight how there is a very significant correlation between enjoying the booking experience, and happiness during the actual trip. Unlike the average vacation, a well-planned, low stress vacation has a 94 per cent chance of returning you to work with greater levels of energy, engagement and happiness.


“I recently found that people who take all of their vacation days are not only happier, they are 34 per cent more likely to receive a bonus over the next three years. Happy travel pays”, Achor concluded.

Nigeria is a dynamic country filled with contradictions. In a country whose economy is regarded as one of the top 3 largest economies in Africa, one won't expect that about 70.8 Per Cent of her population would be living on less than one dollar a day. No one would expect a country blessed with numerous vast mineral resources (including crude oil, gold, and ore) to have over 100 million people (her own citizens) living below poverty line.


No one would expect a country that sets huge amount of money each year in her budget for security, to still be regarded as a dangerous place to travel to and live in (despite having numerous military and paramilitary forces). Everything is contradictory, right?
Nigeria is known to often top lists of negativities (Most Corrupt Countries, List Of Insecure Countries, Difficult Countries To Do Business, etc). And things have been same for a long period of time, and Nigerians are tired too.

Northern Nigeria: “The Black Sheep Of The Country”
Nigeria is a big place. Nevertheless, the Northern part of Nigeria could rightly be refers to as the country's black sheep.

Without being unbiased, the Northern part of Nigeria is playing a huge role in keeping Nigeria in the world's blacklist. For instance, it was reported that over 65 Million Nigerians are illiterates (rating Ghanaians to be more educated than Nigerians). The fact is, majority of those who made up the number are Northerners. A report said:

“If you take the education of the girl-child as indicator, the South-East having an enrolment rate of 85%, South-West having an enrolment rate of 85%, South-South 75%, while the North-East 20% and North West 25%."
Same thing about security. Nigeria is among the 'Non-touristable' African nations today, simply because of terrorist attacks in the Northern part of the country.

Buhari: The Saviour We Thought
During the campaign for the 2015 presidency, Buhari passed a message like this to Nigerians:
"I'm a modest commoner like you who doesn't entertain extravagant living. I'm a disciplined experienced Ex General"

Nigerians believed him. Northerners rejoiced because they've seen a Northern Saviour who will turn their plights around. Unfortunately, President Buhari is not what we thought!
He didn't sell 'unnecessary' presidential airplanes as promised. He didn't cut the cost of governance as promised (maybe he will do this tomorrow). He isn't showing interest in the numerous Almanjiris up there in the North. And few days ago, we learn his beautiful daughter Zahra is getting married to Ahmed Indimi, the son of billionaire Muhammadu Indimi. And few days later, the Indimis bought 30 Lv Bags worth a whopping 47 Million Naira!

The Hypocrisy Of Alhaji Indimi And The Northern Elites
Despite the fact that Northerners held lots of juicy governmental positions in Nigeria, Northern Nigeria still wallows in poverty. Many of the private individuals who own oil wells in the Niger Delta are Northerners. And when you expect an oil mogul like Alhaji Indimi to be worried about the huge number of the Almanjiris in the North who are potential terrorists if nothing is done to help their plight, they will prefer wasting money buying 47 Million Naira worth of bags for someone who doesn't need it.



Alhaji Indimi, founder and chairman of Oriental Energy (A Privately Held Oil Exploration And Production Company), is worth $670 Million according to Forbes. Despite being a Northerner, his company has three projects offshore of the Niger Delta region, and 6 of his children sits on the company's directory board. Ahmed Indimi, Zahra's Husband-to-be, is a graduate of the American Intercontinental University, and is the Head Of Crude Oil Marketing in the company.


No one is saying the Indimis shouldn't spend their money the way they want. But common-sense is telling us that, since your money won't be buried with you when you die some day, then you should impact people's lives positively while still alive. The likes of Bill Gates are doing this continuously, and this is how common-sense is asking us to do things.

Northern Billionaires like Indimi need to prove to us that the Northern Elites are not intentionally impoverishing the Almanjiris so as to make them an available tool that can be used by them for wrong vices whenever the need arises.

Northern billionaires like Alhaji Indimi send their own children to the best schools overseas (Yes, Ahmed schooled in America), while the Almanjiris neither attended a school nor learn a skill.
Northern Elites like Alhaji Indimi are nothing but hypocrites who only enjoy performing good deeds in front of cameras only. Northern Billionaires like the Indimis should change their ways. They should build lots of tuition-free schools equipped with professional teachers for the Almanjiris. In the South, many rich men and women sponsor skill-learning seminars and workshops for the youths.

As Nigerians mourn the death of Ifedolapo Oladepo who died at an NYSC camp in Kano, another youth corper has passed on .Yesterday December 1st, Ukeme Asuquo Monday,died at the NYSC Camp in Zamfara state after suffering from Diarrhea.


His friend ,Victor Jerry Emah, who shared some screenshots of their conversations on Facebook said the first class graduate of Petroleum Engineering from the University of Uyo wasn't happy when he was posted to serve in Zamfara and even inquired on how he could be redeployed .

When I was initially introduced to MMM, I went to God in prayer to seek for HIS approval. HE clearly told me that I cannot engage in it because those Christians involved in the scheme have had their names removed from the book of life. I was seriously troubled and at the same time afraid as I prayed passionately.

As soon as I finished praying, I thought within myself ‘could this voice restraining me be of God?’. Just as I was meditating, another voice came saying; ‘It can not be of God but rather from the devil trying to tie you down in perpetual poverty for the rest of your life.’ So I quickly neglected the former voice for the latter.

I decided to try the scheme with 250k. At the month end, I was so happy when I saw the return of the investment. Could life had been better than this? God punish the devil that would’ve restrained me from this ‘bumper harvest’.

Then I decided to pay my tithe. Just as I was planning to make the withdrawal, God ministered to me – ‘I don’t have anything to do with such money.’ I broke down in tears regretting what I have done in disobeying God. I pleaded for forgiveness of which I know HE has mercifully answered. I closed my MMM account but till now I don’t just know what to do with the money God has rejected.

I’m sharing this as a result of the concern for the brethren in this last days. Though some people may decide to be asking rhetoric questions but I believe serious minded Christians will go to God to also hear from HIM
