Health › Re: Lagos Waste Wars End As Visionscape, Psps Agree On Working Arrangement by Damorela00: 5:49pm On Apr 05, 2018 |
Finally finally, like a Yoruba adage that says "a single broom is not stronger than a bunch of broom" ... Psps joining hands to work together is a great development to achieving a cleaner Lagos. Kudos to all the parties involved. . Congratulations to Lagosians (we won in the end) yeankhar49: The court-owrdered negotiation between Visionscape Sanitation Solutions and private sector participant (PSP) operators has ended as both parties shake hands and agree on terms of operations. The waste wars which resulted from disagreements over the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI) saw PSP operators discontinuing residential waste collection in Lagos State. This led to gaps in service delivery making a mutually beneficial resolution imperative. This resolution comes after months of negotiations, and barely a week after the PSP operators opted to partner with Visionscape Sanitation Solutions to clear up the backlog of waste in the State. Speaking with the media after the exercise on Thursday, a representative from a contributing waste collection operator, Mr. Hafis Kasumu said: “We have decided to support the government in the initiative to get rid of the waste. And also, to partner with Visionscape. So, it is a partnership and we are doing it together.” The resolution will see the PSP operators, now referred to as waste collection operators (WCO), continue residential waste collection, while Visionscape Sanitation Solution deepens its work to develop the infrastructure needed to facilitate an effective integrated waste management system. One of these is the critical construction of engineered landfills across the state to prevent environmental disasters like the recent Olusosun dumpsite fire.
Also highlighted in the new agreement is that Visionscape will serve as the central processing hub of municipal solid waste within Lagos State. The company will engage PSPs on long-term service arrangements and will pay them for their service. carry out any intervention required to fill service gaps in public areas. This new direction will ensure that all arms of the CLI is able to deliver optimal results that will raise Lagos State’s waste management process to globally acceptable standards. With countries like Rwanda already exploring e-waste management facility and commercial composting, it is essential that the State accelerates the development of its waste management infrastructure, which Visionscape has concession of. The company has reaffirmed its commitment to leading the concerted effort towards an environmentally sustainable Lagos State. This partnership is expected to start yielding visible results over the next few weeks.

I just have to commend the initiative of the Lagos state government in hearkening to the voice of the people and on time. The channels given out to the public to make complaints are responsive and they are yielding the positive results we want to see. I'll be attaching pictures of what I saw at Agidingbi and allen roundabout. . I'm happy at least, the Lagos streets I want to be clean is finally taking shape.. I'm sure other areas will receive touch soon

I used to think like this too aswear, 1question for you is "did you communicate with the right authorities concerning this waste you witnessed?" So it can be attended to? I still blasted them this morning wen I was arguing with a friend of mine but he was yarning some tangible infos about cleaner Lagos before I got further understanding on it.. then, this facts I saw up here. I think the initiative is good yeah but we as Lagosians should be patient and criticize constructively enough to make it work... We should not badmouth it, it's a step in the right direction maeshal: Forget this cleaner lagos initiative, i have given up them. I told them about a month ago about the waste at sunrise bus stop along oshodi apapa expressway and till now nothing has been done. The entire stretch of that road is a disaster and yet these guys keep sweeping places that require little or no attention, let them keep deceiving themselves |

I believe it's because we all want a clean of dirt Lagos and we want it fast, like very very fast and there's no harm in that.. some of us just need proper education and info on the status quo and how visiocape is driving the cleaner Lagos initiative so we can be patient enough... . Govt should do more on educating the larger populace, this will help us all OlisaOsega87: These facts are interesting ones really but my question is this, why exactly are people fighting this noble initiative? is it that we don't like good things or laudable projects like this in this part of the world? it's really baffling see certain comments online, people antagonizing this initiative and I begin to wonder, when will we ever get it right in this part of the world?? |

I generally think some people just like to choose whatever narrative that fits them, either because they're paid to do so or working against people doing good for the society or something. These cleaner Lagos people are working tiredlessly day in and day out and we should learn to be patient, they are not magicians afterall and we can see that they are all out for good which visionscape is not sleeping on as they have showcased so far. I don't think so bro, my movement around some parts of Lagos is saying otherwise, we should inhabit the culture of constructive criticism with proper info and facts revontuli: Oh boy that looks bad. Lagos drowning in trash! |

These pictures are old guy, I can categorically tell you as of present that Lagos is way cleaner than this. Look up the pictures accompanying my reply to you as evidence to support my motion. We should always try and be objective and updated in our criticism cc @lalasticlala lalasticlala , @Mynd44 Mynd44 AutoJoshNIG: Indeed, this is not the cleanest of times of our dear Lagos state.
No matter the location – highbrow, lowbrow - one thing has become common to all – heaps of garbage on the street.
No doubt, the only legally approved organization for clearing up refuse in Lagos,Visionscape, is clearly overwhelmed.
As much as one is not aware of the contractual details of the clean-up arrangement for Lagos state, however it is very apparent that the sudden disengagement of the services of the PSP operators wasn’t exactly a well thought out one.
But whatever the case, Visionscape urgently needs to up their game.
These sights are not exactly what any serious city that strives to attain the status of a mega city should project.
