With d physics bckground, U can actually be considered for any of the positions as a trainee.....train and equip u wit the necessary skills, certifications dat makes u either a mudlogger, drilling engineer, or any other.
Geo-physics wld hav made it a lot easier for u tho...but not to worry, I knw a few persons wit ur discipline........ a driller, a geologist wit a multinational, mudlogger too.
So, dia is really no limit to where/what u can be in d O&G industry. Its mostly opportunity and God bro!!

I can't categorically tell u Yes/No but I. Have gotten interview invitations from applications thru my BB (even with d signature). I hav thought abt it though if BB affects......but d world is a global village now, d important thing is getting ur application across. Unless d recruiter wanna be psychic abt it.

Lemme giv u an insight..... Good a tin u graduated as an engineer. I bet u don't hav any rig/drilling experience for now. (Nobody was born wit it). The best bet is to apply to dis drilling contractors or some servicing companies. If u are fortunate, some send u on trainings, while for many, u'll learn on d job. In drilling..... Trust me, d best way to start is through the roustabout, u'll get to learn every bit of d operations from scratch,..... Gradually u'll grow into roughneck, assistant derrickman/pumpman, derrickman, AD etc..... But if there is anything very important that u shldnt play wit is getting certified... As u grow in experience, u'll begin to seee and knw d necessary papers needed for d next big step,.....Cos dis certificate is wot really places u above ur peers n gives u d xtra bucks. It also eases ur switching of companies/positions.
So my UGBOWO broda.... Follow threads like dis, browse dis companies sites n apply as much as u can!! U'll get dia someday!! Cheers!!

No disrespect deepwater cos u already know better than dis!!, Gone are d days when roustabout was dis low in thinking, even when d cleaning is still involved. Rigs have become more sophisticated and so its d level of operational and safety trainings. Transocean has taken a very bold step in turning roustabout into a somtin of a trainee position, good trainings, packages etc. A couple of my friends who entered in less than a year are roughnecks now. The growth doesn't stall anymore. Dnt forget what a name n experience from transocean can easily get u when u add IWCF to ur cv in other firms. Its a stepping stone!!!

I really dnt tink deepwater's comment were 4 ur post as per when d interview will be, hw many wil be called per rig or wen d rigs wil be arriving.
Its more of a post concerning lippyrat's fears for lack of transparency in d recruitment process.
For me..... I think its fair to say its gonna be a transparent process. Prepare well and exercise patience as dis rigs dnt just arrive like dat, its a multi-million dollar property we r talkin abt here o......NO BE BEANS!!!, a lot of bodies, documentations, processes etc r involved.

Can we really say how it will look like? For me, I will say knw ur cv, learn abt roustabout duties, safety measures, get an insight into drilling, drill pipes, slings, shackles, safety pins, banksmanship etc....quite wide sha, but just learn as much as u can. Read abt transocean too.
Questions can come frm anywhere..... Goodluck

deepwater: Part of the news gives me concern, two jackups still present in NGR are magellan and monitor. I know magellan has been up for sale but not sure about monitor, if magallan leaves now that would warrant transfer of crews from her to new arrivals thereby limiting space and all that for newbies, just like what happened to express when 135 left.
But don't forget, if its for you; ITS FOR YOU

Yeah.....very true bro.... Although rumours are spreading wide about monitor being negotiated for sale to shelf drilling. Either way....lets relax and watch how tins turns out.

No disrespect!!!! I do not agree with u. Guess u have ur source(s) and I have mine. Even medics who wrote dia test afterwards are waiting for interviews mainly based on when expected rigs will arrive. Have faith peeps!!!.

Stay calm Peeps........ Mails havnt been sent yet. Heard they will start calling for interviews next month (september) as rigs are also expected in the same month. Stay hopeful peeps.
