The Nigeria star and his spouse welcomed the arrival of their first child on Friday Leicester City midfielder Wilfried Ndidi has announced the birth of his baby girl on Friday. The 23-year-old took to Instagram to share the good news and revealed the girl will be called Jaina. A year ago after the 2018-19 Premier League season, Ndidi tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend Dinma Fortune in an elaborate ceremony in Abuja which had his Leicester City teammate Kelechi Iheanacho and other close friends in attendance. The Nigeria international has established himself as a rock in the Foxes’ midfield since he arrived in England from Belgian outfit Genk in January 2017. Ndidi is renowned for his ball-winning skills and combative displays in the middle of the park, and he is ranked as one of the top tacklers in the Premier League in the past two seasons. Before the suspension of football in England, the 23-year-old made 23 league appearances for Brendan Rodgers' side with two goals to his name in the Premier League in this campaign. Since his debut outing against DR Congo in an international friendly in October 2015, Ndidi has played 36 matches for Nigeria, and he was a member of Gernot Rohr's team that won bronze at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Presidents of West African countries, under the aegis of the Economic Community of West African States Authority of Heads of State and Governments, have appointed the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as champion of their COVID-19 response. A statement by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in Abuja, said the appointment took place on Thursday, at the Extraordinary ECOWAS Summit on COVID-19, which was held via teleconference under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou. During the teleconference, Buhari was said to have called on fellow ECOWAS leaders to look beyond the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and tap into various opportunities that it presents for the betterment of lives in member states. Buhari was quoted as saying, “In every challenging situation such as the current one, there are also opportunities. Our region must therefore seek to find those opportunities provided by this gloomy global outlook for its benefit by embarking on the implementation of such critical policies, which, before now, will be difficult to accept.” While calling on his colleagues to intensify collaboration in order to save the region from “this deadly pandemic through sharing our experiences and best practices,” Buhari outlined some measures taken by his regime in response to the pandemic. They include, reduction of interest rates on all applicable Central Bank of Nigeria interventions from nine per cent to five per cent and introduction of a one-year moratorium on CBN intervention facilities; and the inauguration of a presidential task force to coordinate national efforts to combat the spread of the virus and ensure efficiency and effectiveness in line with the Nigerian Action Plan on Health Security. The President also stated that unprecedented economic uncertainties, including severe fiscal and foreign exchange constraints, amid a slowdown in global economic growth that most nations are grappling with, had made it imperative for “our sub-region to refocus on accelerating the implementation of our popular vision of ‘ECOWAS of the people’ by adopting dynamic regional policies aimed at providing relief to our citizens.” Buhari added, “At a time of global uncertainty such as this, caused by the devastating impact of the COVID-19, let me convey Nigeria’s solidarity with all the member states as we collectively battle to defeat the pandemic. “I am greatly saddened by loss of numerous lives and extend my heartfelt condolences to families of those who have lost loved ones throughout the region. I also wish infected victims speedy and full recovery.” Mynd44

The reduction of player salaries has been a big talking point since the outbreak of the coronavirus, with the Blues deciding against such measures Chelsea have released a statement confirming that, as things stand, their players will not be taking pay cuts to help with the running of the club and that no full-time staff will be furloughed. Football clubs in England - and especially those outside of the Premier League - are experiencing severe financial issues during the coronavirus crisis, with income streams having been decimated. The severity of the situation has led to some clubs asking their players to sacrifice a portion of their salaries, with Arsenal having recently reached an agreement over a 12.5 per cent reduction. Criticism has been aimed at Mesut Ozil after he allegedly refused to take a pay cut, although there also those that feel the German, and any other player asked to take a deduction, are well within their rights to decline. And Chelsea have now made an announcement over their stance regarding player salaries, insisting that they are not currently asking their first-team squad to contribute to assist the club's financial situation. The statement read: "Representatives of the Chelsea board have recently held extensive talks with the men’s first team to discuss how they can contribute financially to the club during the coronavirus crisis. "The objective of these talks has been to find a meaningful partnership around ensuring we preserve jobs for staff, compensate fans and participate in activities for good causes. "We are grateful to the team for having played their role in assisting the club with community activities as well as all the charitable causes they have been supporting in their respective home countries and through the Players Together initiative supporting the NHS. "At this time, the men’s first team will not be contributing towards the club financially and instead the board have directed the team to focus their efforts on further supporting other charitable causes. "As this crisis develops the club will continue to have conversations with the men’s first team regarding financial contributions to the club’s activities." The west London club also confirmed that they will not be furloughing full-time staff, adding: "The club can confirm we will not be taking advantage of the government’s current Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme which runs to 30 June. "We are not planning any general redundancies or furloughs for our full-time staff who are continuing to be paid 100 per cent of their current wages. "Casual workers and match day staff employed by the club are being compensated by us through 30 June as if matches had been played and we had been operating as normal. "We are continuing our current level of financial and other support to our professional women players and also to our women’s academy programmes. Our women’s team and staff have been very supportive of our charitable activities during this crisis which has been appreciated by both the club and the respective charities." Mynd44 |
Arsenal handed Champions League hope by UEFA contingency plan for cancelled Premier League season. Mikel Arteta could benefit from a new UEFA plan. UEFA have floated the possibility of handing out Champions League places for next season based on their coefficient scores if domestic seasons are cancelled, which would see Arsenal sneak back into Europe’s top competition. Contingency plans are being drawn up for if major leagues across Europe cannot be completed due to the coronavirus crisis. While there would be much argument over teams being awarded title and if sides should face relegation, there is also the issue of which teams qualify for Europe next season if this campaign is voided. UEFA held a video conference with all 55 national associations and one idea that was put forward was handing out European places based on the UEFA coefficient, regardless of current position in the domestic tables. This would see Arsenal make it into next season’s Champions League, despite sitting ninth in the Premier League at the moment. The coefficient would also hand would also give Champions League places to Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United, with Leicester City and Chelsea missing out. If Man City’s two-year Champions League ban is upheld then it is Spurs, who are currently eighth in the Premier League, that would take their place, leaving Chelsea, Leicester and Wolves to contest the Europa League. The team currently in seventh, Sheffield United, would not get a spot in Europe. The proposal remains just that at this stage, with Uefa President Aleksander Ceferin not thought to be in favour of it. UEFA are pushing for domestic leagues to be completed, being restarted by the end of June if at all possible. A statement from UEFA after their online meeting read: ‘There was a strong recommendation given to finish domestic top division and cup competitions. ‘But some special cases will be heard once guidelines concerning participation to European competitions – in case of a cancelled league – have been developed. The argument between who is the better writer between Dan Brown and Sidney Sheldon has been going on for a while now. For those who don't know Dan Brown is a writer who writes mostly on mystery, religious topics which always involve a twist while Sidney Sheldon used to write on romance and crime novels. For me Dan Brown is better than Sidney Sheldon. What is your opinion
