Peter Obi gets hotel as campaign office from Fayose, sound system from supporter

While UK-based Isaac Fayose donated his hotel in Ibadan as a campaign office for Labour Party in Oyo state, Mr Sebastian of High Class Instruments, donated a van filled with sound system for Obi's nationwide campaign.

Twitter - Isaac, a younger brother to the former governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose, has announced his donation of his property, Viewpoint Resort, in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital to the Peter Obi campaign team ahead of the 2023 presidential election

Announcing his donation via a now viral video on Twitter, the younger Fayose called on all 'Obidients' in the area to get familiar with the location.

“My Obidients, I have a good news for you. I will be donating my hotel for the period of six months for the remaining campaign time. I have four shops, I have halls, I have rooms, I have swimming pool, I have a big place that can take 1000 people for carnival. “If you are Obidient, and you are in Ibadan, we need to identify our polling units. In a related development, a supporter of Obi has offered to donate sound equipment for all Labour Party campaigns across the nation.

This is 2022 and we are still experiencing kickbacks in our education system. Universities all over the world is the custodian of research and innovation. The government is not fair with our academicians. The lecturers deserves better. It is not good at all.

A committee constituted by the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to explore grounds for reconciliation have met in Port Harcourt the capital of Rivers state on Friday.

A video obtained by Vanguard shows the two parties representing Atiku and Wike. The delegation of the Wike’s camp was led by former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, while that of Atiku was led by Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri.


Others present at the meeting include, former governors Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State and his counterpart in Cross River, Donald Duke; former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Bello Adoke and former PDP governorship candidate in Ondo State, Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN).

Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello is of the opinion that the strike involving members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has lingered on because the Nigerian elites are toying with the future of the country.

Bello disclosed this on Friday while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

The governor who said he has been closely monitoring the protracted face-off between ASUU and the Federal Government, said it is sad that the nation’s tomorrow is not being taken seriously.

When asked who are those toying with the country’s future, “Nigeria’s elites,” Governor Bello replied emphatically, adding that “elite cuts across board – both those in government and ASUU themselves.”

Governor Bello argued that if all involved are serious about the nation’s progress, then the ASUU issue would have been resolved within the twinkling of an eye.

While stating that his heart goes out to Nigerian students and their parents, the governor asserted that its not all for the Federal Government alone to handle, and as such, Nigerians must stop playing politics with the future of the country.

According to him, those who have been given the responsibility to fix the ASUU issue have not shown sufficient good fate.

While pointing out that the government must be decisive in dealing with the now malignant matter, the governor said the leadership of ASUU must also show good fate in solving the problem by looking deep at the human impact of their actions.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has insisted on the payment of the salary backlog to lecturers, maintaining that without the move, unfinished academic sessions should be forgotten.

President of the union Professor Emmanuel Osodeke made the remark on Friday, explaining that though public varsities have been shut since February, the lecturers should be paid since they have to teach to make up for time lost during the closure.

Osodeke was speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s breakfast show, Sunrise Daily following the government’s insistence on non-payment of the lecturers over the industrial action.

“Let me tell you the difference between ASUU and other labour unions. When other unions go on strike and come back, all those periods for which you are on strike, you don’t need to do the backlog of work,” the ASUU chief explained.

“But for ASUU, when we go back today, we are going to start from the 2020/2021 session. For these two sets of students that have been admitted by JAMB, we have to teach them over these periods to ensure that we meet up with the system.

“So, we are going to do the backlog of the work we have left behind. We are not going to start today and say ‘This session is 2022/2023, therefore, all these two sets of people that have been admitted by JAMB are cancelled. We have to take another admission for the 2023/2024 session’.”


According to him, if the government maintains its stance on the non-payment of salary backlog, members of the union are not obliged to make up for the lost academic time.

“If we agree on that, therefore, the lectures we should have given [to students] for 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 [sessions], they should be allowed to go so we start a new session 2022/2023 within September which is when a new session should start,” Professor Osodeke added.

“Therefore by July next year, I would go on my leave as we used to have in those days so that the backlog is gone. All the lectures that remain; all the two sets of admissions that JAMB has given that are waiting should become irrelevant.”

He said that ASUU does not need a pity party over the government’s withholding of the lecturers’ wages, maintaining that the union “can take care” of its members.
