The politicians have used us , they've seized all our powers and left us hopeless, but not this time. Let's vote not just because of where we come from, not just because of our ethnicity but because of where we are going to, together. It's time to use our weapons to fight this war that is coming our way in 2023, let's vote in competent, considerate and quality leader irrespective of his religious or geographical background. Together we can make a better Nigeria again.

The governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has declared that anybody who despised the state or downgraded its political capability would meet political strangulation in the state.

Governor Wike made the declaration at the inauguration of the Orochiri -Worukwo (Waterlines junction) Flyover that was performed by the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in Port Harcourt on Monday.

The Rivers State governor explained that the dynamics of contemporary politics had made it unpopular to just gift votes away without the assurance of derivable benefit for the people.

“If you say Rivers State does not matter, Rivers State will tell you that you don’t also matter at the appropriate time. If you don’t like us, we will not like you. If you like us, we will like you.

“Nobody will use our votes for nothing. Our votes will matter and Rivers State must benefit from anybody that we are going to support.

“Politics now is no longer just vote for somebody, it is about what you will do for the people of Rivers State,” Wike said.

Governor Wike pointed out that it would be difficult for those he described as conspirators to upset the voting pattern of Rivers State and support for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The governor reiterated that those who looted the treasury of the State would not be supported to become governor of Rivers State.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has boasted that his widely acknowledged outstanding stewardship in office reflects his personal capacity and passion to deliver enduring development to Rivers state people and nothing to do with his political affiliation with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike, who spoke during Tuesday’s commissioning of dualised Ogbunuabali – Eastern bypass Road project in Port Harcourt, bragged, “Take me away today from PDP to another party, I will still perform. So, it is not because I’m in PDP that I’m performing.”He said, “Leadership is not about party. Leadership is about individual. Party is only a vehicle to actualise your ambition, to be able to tell your people I have this capacity, I have this quality to render services to you.

“It is because I have that passion for my people, have the commitment to serve my people. Take me to YPP, allow me become whatever I will become there, I will perform. Take me to any party, I will perform. So, it is not party that makes you to perform,” he statedThe Governor, who noted that misguided Rivers politicians twisted his assertion on Monday that the state was fully under his grips, explained that, “Because some people went to school late, they don’t understand when somebody says I am in charge of this State.“I never said I am in charge of votes in this State, but I know I can talk to my people and my people will listen to me. Some people say, I have only one vote, I agree. I can’t vote two times. I will only vote once. But because of the services I have rendered to the people of this State, the State will listen to me.”

The commissioning of the dualized road was graced by former Governor of Sokoto State, Sen Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko who inaugurated the road project, as well as top political leaders who continue to acknowledge the leadership capacity of Wike in service delivery to Rivers people.

Team Nigeria led by the impressive Tobi Amusan has won the Women 4×100 metres relay race to grab the country’s 11th Gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK.

The Labour Party has gained a new member from the PDP.

Babatunde Gbadamosi, a former governorship candidate, is no longer supporting Atiku Abubakar for president.

"By the same token, I also hereby publicly declare my support for the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi” - he said.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the 54-year-old politician said he had completely lost hope in Nigerian youths but Obi and his choice of running mate have rekindled his hope.

The statement read in part:

The Minister of Agriculture, Mohammed Abubakar, on Thursday said in spite of the protracted security challenge in the country, food production has not dropped.

Speaking during the weekly ministerial briefing at the State House in Abuja, Abubakar acknowledged that the insurgency, inhibiting farmers from accessing their farms, particularly in the North-West, North-East, and North-Central, is a concern for the Federal Government.

He, however, maintained that food production continues at an appreciable level for most parts of the country.

The minister further revealed that 3.6 million direct and indirect jobs have been created through $1.1 billion in externally-funded agriculture projects and are being implemented by the present administration.

According to him, $538 million dollars was approved by the African Development Bank (AfDB) for special agricultural processing zones to support inclusive and sustainable agricultural development in Nigeria.

He gave the participating states as Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kogi, Kwara, Kebbi, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, and Sokoto.

While debunking recent reports that Nigeria is not on track to end food hunger by 2025, Abubakar cited Nigeria’s food production sufficiency (which has placed the country as number 1 in Africa and 4th in the world in rice production) as evidence that President Muhammadu Buhari is living up to his promise to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty within a decade.
