No doubt that the strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) has been a nationalistic fight to finish, it came at a loss to the country. This is as voted by students, the top 5 losers of the ASUU strike:

1. Students - Aside being academically dormant for over 5months, thus raising the fear of mass failure during exams expected to be rushed within the months of January to February next year, while some have lost their lives or dignity indulging in one criminal activity or another, others are growing lean wondering how to tackle their house rents at school, that have most likely expired, with the academic year uncompleted.

The strike will also delay these current finalists from making the February/March NYSC batch, pushing them to June and November.

2. Campus Businesses - Even here at Abia State University, the standard of living of the canteen operators have dropped. So also have times become rough for the motorcycle riders, photocopy shops, photographers, other businesses and even churches on campus.

3. Lecturers - Most of them were financially stranded by september when their nursery, primary and secondary school children had to return to school with no money for fees, uniform and books, owing to no salary and no proceeds from sale of textbooks and handouts.

4. Federal Government - The ultimatum that didn’t work showed how weak the FG is and set a bad precedent for other unions to follow.

5. President Goodluck Jonathan - This charade was bad for his political ambition of vying for second term, as well as for his political party PDP presidentially.

The top 5 gainers however were:

1. Newspapers - Most newspapers especially those online enjoyed an influx of new customers reading updates on ASUU strike.

2. Vice Chancellors - They sat and watch ASUU struggle to make huge sums available to them to improve their various varsities. Some of these funds will be diverted for personal use of course.

3. Facebook - There was an increase in the use of facebook by Nigerian Public University students this period.

4. Lecturers - They are to be paid for not working, not being stresses, and shall enjoy earned allowances most of them probably lost hope of getting, or didn’t know they were entitled to earn.

5. Hostel/Lodge Landlords - They will earn payment for emergency periods of learning. The quest to retain one’s room for the rest of the semester or session ie. January to whenever, might force some to pay for a year they may not complete in that lodge.

Going through the above, it is clear that the strike had more negative consequences than positive. Economically, Nigeria was at loss for this strike. It is thus the hope of every Nigerian university student, that the ASUU strike ends this week as anticipated, so that we can return to learning by 6th January, uncomfortably but necessarily.

The Federal Government’s new offer of enhanced academic allowances has been rejected by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, insisting that government should first implement in full the 2009 agreement before any other negotiation could take place.

Speaking to Vanguard, yesterday, National President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, said after consultations with branch chairmen of the union on the new government offer, members rejected it, saying accepting the offer meant starting negotiations afresh.

“They wanted to make an offer on one of the issues in dispute. They said they are more interested in the earned academic allowances, so they said they want to make an offer just like they did in the first instance.

“We told them that the issue is not making offers on any item in the agreement. The issue is implementing the agreement. We have consulted our principal (branch chairmen) and our principal is of the opinion that the agreement should just be implemented.

“If we say we are going to start talking about offers and rejections and acceptance, it means that we are going back to re-negotiation.


“That is the situation and of course, they asked whether we will still attend tomorrow’s meeting where they will discuss implementation of the needs assessment report, we told them that we will be there.”

The ASUU boss, who said it seemed the Federal Government wanted to reduce the whole agreement to earned academic allowances, said “for us, the agreement has many other things that are very vital for revitalizing university system in this country.”

Fagge said the branch chairmen who were contacted on the development rejected any move that would end up in government abandoning an agreement that was willingly signed and that the union did not want a development where a component of the agreement would be singled out by government.

“They said (branch leaders) that are not interested in re-negotiating the agreement for now, when you implement the agreement then we will talk about re-negotiation,” He said.

A woman is accused of trying to kill her husband by putting poison inside her private parts – then asking him to perform a s*x act on her.

The shocked 43-year-old hubby is now suing her for the alleged attempted assassination.

The woman, from Sao Jose do Rio Preto in Brazil, planted a toxic substance in her private parts then lured her husband to bed, local reports say.

But when she asked him to give her oral s*x, he is said to have fled after noticing a strange smell.

The suspicious husband then took his wife, who has not been named, to hospital where doctors carried out tests and found she had ingested a poisonous substance.

Newly sworn-in governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Muhktar Ramalan Yero, has sought the assistance of the British Government in tackling insecurity and other anti- development challenges facing the State.

The governor made a plea for assistance in Kaduna, while playing host to the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Andrew Pocock at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House. He commended the intervention of the British Government in other areas of concerns in the State, particularly through its Department for International Development (DFID), arguing that British intervention has assisted in supporting the state realise some of its human development and growth objectives.

He said the DIFD launched five interventions recently �prominent among which is the Women for Women programme targeted at training female health workers.� Yero assured of his administration�s commitment to ensuring security of lives and property through short and long-term measures. He said his administration had created a business environment that could attract investors and other development partners to the State.

Meanwhile, the British Commission, in a press statement, said over 170�000 people travel from Nigeria to the United Kingdom for different purposes yearly. It pledges to continue welcoming genuine immigrants with openness: �Most of those travelling have a great time and their visits are safe and successful. The UK is open to genuine visitors, students and business people who benefit from the first class visa service we offer,� it said.

A British high school called police to remove a star pupil who is so “obsessed” with revising that he refused to leave the library.

Jamie Gagliardi, 18, was ejected from Ifield Community College in southern England, after refusing to leave the library. The school accused Gagliardi, who is predicted to be an A-grade student, of being “obsessed” with after-school tuition and said that it called the police because the pupil was causing a “nuisance”.

Gagliardi, who was forced to call his mother to pick him up, said: “I have been punished for wanting to do well. I am a hard-working and dedicated student, and this could have such an impact on my future.”

The student went to the library despite being banned from the premises for the day as a punishment for interrupting the school principal during a meeting – to request extra revision sessions.

Marilyn Evans, the school’s director of administration, said: “He became vociferous and irritated that he couldn’t have after-school revision.” She described Gagliardi as a “top student” who should do well in his exams, but said he had been “causing a nuisance and a disturbance on the premises.”

A police spokeswoman confirmed that officers were called to the school to remove a “disruptive” pupil who was refusing to leave the premises, but said that Gagliardi will not face any charges.

An aide of Mrs Folorunsho Alakija, Chief Executive Officer, The Rose of Sharon, a Non-Governmental Organization, Mr Vincent Ayewah and six others have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in a case of abuse of office, conspiracy, forgery, impersonation and theft of N3million (Three million naira only).

Their arrest was the sequel to a petition by Alakija, alleging that Vincent, one of her employees fraudulently misappropriated the funds meant for the beneficiaries of the foundation’s empowerment scheme. She alleged that he impersonated and stole various cheques and withdrew monies meant for orphans and widows in care of the Foundation.

Vincent allegedly forged cheques of the Foundation’s Stanbic IBTC Bank Account and got one Miss Florence Ayewah and their friends to cash the forged cheques by presenting them with fake identity cards.

In the course of investigation, it was discovered that Vincent used his position to enlist his family members as beneficiaries of the scheme.

Specifically, the Foundation had been able to prove his mother who is a widow in a petty trade and was paying the school fees of his sister, Florence Ayewah who is a student of Lagos City Polytechnic.

Vincent confessed that he fell for the scam due to his poor upbringing and being the only bread winner of his family. He admitted that when cheques are ready for some beneficiaries of the Foundation, “I divert them and get my siblings and friends to cash at banks, I also arrange ID cards bearing the name on cheques with their faces on it for bank clearance”. Florence was arrested at a Stanbic IBTC bank in Lagos while trying to cash a forged Cheque number 03378 in the sum of N97, 000 in favour of one Ms Olubunmi Juliana Ishola

Besides Vincent, six other members of the syndicate involved in the scam and who have also been arrested are George Ehizibolo, Onwuwa David, Okonkwo Chikadibia, Emmanuel Ayewah, Florence Ayewah and Chinyere Awanah

Vincent admitted having at, various times, sent his younger sister, Florence and her friend Chinyere and his younger brother Emmanuel to banks with fake identity cards. He also admitted having acquired a Honda Accord car with registration number: UA 845 AAA from the proceeds of crime.

The suspects will be arraigned in court soon.

She started her day just like any other person out there, little did she know that it was her last day to live on this earth.

She was a young beautiful lady who mingled with everyone easily so social and everyone loved her due to her outgoing and outspoken personality, a committed Christian who impacted positively the lives of everyone that she interacted with while alive. She was a model and a university student.

According to the close family friends who revealed the bizarre incident to us, Violet commenced her day as usual she always bade her mum goodbye every morning it was a routine to her as the bond between mum and daughter was inseparable.

She was the only child in the family, and close family friends loved her so much. The close friend from south Africa informed us that she started complaining of threats in form of phone text messages from her former ' powerful' boyfriend since the man wanted her to make up with him by force in their once enviable relationship, but she never wanted to give it a second chance.

On that fateful day after evening classes, violet was living on her last minutes on this earth and not for long she was abducted and taken to an old deserted house and at around 7.30pm she was murdered and her once beautiful body left lying in the pool of blood.

According to the source the man later confessed to have killed her the reason being he loved her so much to let her go. My dear friends it's so painful for her mum putting in mind that she had no other child.

Nigeria’s president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has finally given an explanation for his perceived ‘slowness’, which has left a lot of the country’s citizens frustrated and angry.

Jonathan was speaking at a church service to mark the New Year celebration in Abuja, and equally vowed to improve on the speed with which he attends to issues.

“Sometimes, people say this government is slow,” he said. “Yes, by human thinking, we are slow, but I can say that we are not slow.

“Government must think things properly before it acts. When you don’t think through things properly, or when you rush, you will make mistakes.

“It is more difficult to correct errors. You can ask those who build houses. Government will not, because of the perception, begin to rush.”

Former president of the Ijaw Youth Council, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, recently spoke with some journalists on issues of national concern, including the alleged face-off between President Goodluck Jonathan and his estranged political godfather, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

On how he thinks the administration of President Jonathan is faring so far, Dokubo-Asari said there have been no changes and it is business as usual. He also acknowledged the vital role President obasanjo played in ensuring the Jonathan emerged as the president of the country.

His words: “First, there was no need for Jonathan, whatsoever, to disagree with Obasanjo. I don’t like Obasanjo, I don’t like his face, I hate him, but he was instrumental in bringing Jonathan to power. And the greedy people around Jonathan have not managed him well enough to prevent an open clash between him and Obasanjo… Some people say Obasanjo is manipulating Jonathan, that is why Jonathan is disagreeing with him, and we ask: ‘what has Jonathan’s government achieved to show that it is a departure from other governments that have existed since 1956?’ For us, nothing has changed. It is still business as usual. So, what is the advice that Obasanjo gave to Jonathan that is so difficult for him to fulfil, that made him to decide to fall out with the former President?”

It's a black Saturday in the city of Kano as another suicide bomber attacked MTN Communication office in the state capital. The occupant of the bomb-rigged car hit the MTN headquaters at Post Office Road, Kano, about 30 minutes after the attack on Airtel's office.

As at the time of reporting, credible sources told Olufamous.com that the number of casualty from both attacks were already four.

Some staff and security officials on night shift were said to still be in the office when the building was hit by the suicide bomber. “There may be casualties, but at the moment I cannot disclose to you how many because we are still investigating the matter,” a security source said.

Sporadic gunshots are heard around the area.

When you pair that number with the 4 billion hours of video we watch per month, it's clear that entertaining and valuable content is in high demand. And now that the YouTube Partner Program is open to everyone, monetization is actually more feasible than ever.

Even if you never reach Justin Bieber or oppan gangnam style (1billion views) status on YouTube, you can join the plenty of people who successfully make a living off the platform. Just know that it requires the right preparation, execution and equipment -- but most importantly, patience.

First, you must set up an account. If you already have a Gmail account, you can log in using the same name and password. However, it's helpful to keep your email separate, so consider creating a new account strictly dedicated to your channel. (You can always sync your email so YouTube-related messages forward to one address, if you prefer.)

When creating an account, think carefully about your username -- the handle will essentially become your brand name, so make sure it's something you're really comfortable with.

Content Is King

Patience and Consistency

Don't expect thousands of views right off the bat. To begin earning those precious views, you must be a reliable and professional content creator. Most YouTube filmmakers have plenty of days or weeks where they don't feel like making a video, but subscribers crave dependability. They expect a video on a fairly regular basis, so don't expect success if you only post when you feel like it.

President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, expressed dismay at the continuous stealing of Nigeria’s crude oil by illegal bunkerers, vowing that his administration would do everything possible to stem the tide by bringing the perpetrators to book.

The President stated this at the opening of the Maritime Sector Presidential Retreat with the theme, “HarnessinG the Potential of Nigeria’s Maritime Sector for Sustainable Economic Development” at the Presidential Villa.

He upbraided those involved in the crime and told them to “throw their heads under the pillow” in shame as there was no justification for their actions.

Jonathan’s comment came on a day the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala revealed that the country loses over N2 trillion annually in capital flight to foreign countries following the inability of the indigenous ship owners to fully participate in lifting of the over 150million tons of cargo from the country including crude oil exports.

It’s only in Nigeria that crude is stolen According to Jonathan, “it is embarrassing that it is only in Nigeria that crude oil is stolen. It is a very bad news and I believe that Nigerians and foreigners who are involved in that act need to throw their heads under the pillow because all over the world, it is only in Nigeria that crude oil is stolen.

He said: “This must stop. We will be decisive in putting an end to this malaise. Our charge to all relevant agencies and departments of government is to work cooperatively with the required urgency.” He said the maritime sector was a critical component of the economic development of a modern state, noting that it was in this regard that it was incorporated as a major component of the transformation agenda.

The president said the “sector facilitates approximately 90 percent of world trade, creates millions of jobs and generates billions of dollars in economic output. The sector, to say the least, is a major engine of our national growth strategy. “Besides improved prospects in traditional sea-related activities such as fishing, shipping, ship-building and repairs, agriculture and tourism, the sector is a major hub in offshore oil exploration and production activities and will remain so in the foreseeable future. “Given its importance to the national economy, we have an uncompromising obligation to safeguard our territorial waters against all threats: poaching, piracy, pipeline vandalism, coastal insecurity, crude oil theft, illegal bunkering, non- payment of statutory levies and charges, illegal entry of ships into our territorial waters, illegal importation of arms and hard drugs, among other sundry crimes.” Cost of inadequate maritime safety Okonjo-Iweala who also spoke at the event said the cost of inadequate maritime safety and security to Nigerian society and the economy “has been significant.” She said “the Indigenous Ship Owners Association of Nigeria said that we now lose over N2 trillion annually in capital flight to foreign countries which own vessels used to lift about 150 million tons of cargos including oil products from this country as there is no Nigerian flag ship currently plying international routes.

Nigerian-own vessels make up less than one percent of the global fleets and are quite old with an average of 30 years of age”. FG sets up 15-man maritime c’ttee Meanwhile, the Federal Government, yesterday, set up a 15-member committee to draw up roadmap for effective maritime operations in the country. The committee which has heads of most of the maritime agencies was charged with the responsibility of working out ways for the development and effect exploitation of the enormous potential of the sector.

The committee is chaired by the Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar while a re-known maritime lawyer, Olisa Agbokoba, SAN will serve as the vice chairman. Other members of the Committee are the Director General of NIMASA, Mr Patrick Akpobolokemi, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Maritime, Mr Leke Oyelese and the Managing Director of the Nigeria Maritime Authority, Alhaji Omar Suleiman. Others are the Chairman of Indigenous Ship Owners Association of Nigeria, Chief Isaac Jolapamo, Chairperson Seaport Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria, Mrs Vicky Harstrup and former Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr Jim Ovia. Also in the Committee are the Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Umar and the Special Adviser to the President on Project Monitoring who will represent the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-weala, the Chief of Naval Staff, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Attorney-General of the Federation and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation would send a representative each as members of the committee. At the end of one day retreat on Maritim security in Abuja, President Goodluck Jonathan who announced the setting up of the committee charged it to look at all the issues raised at the retreat and bring out workable solutions in sustainable ways of achieving them with timeline for execution.

The President said that the Secretariat of the committee would be provided by the Ministry of Transport. President Jonathan in his closing remarks reiterated the need for concerted efforts at putting an end to crude oil theft, illegal bunkering and the activities of the illegal local refineries
