Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi on
Monday said the laying of tracks of Lagos-Ibadan
standard gauge rail line would start in December. He also said that Jibowu and Costain bridges in Lagos would be demolished to give way for the new railway lines. Amaechi made the remarks in Lagos when he met with the Steering Committee of the project and the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC). The minister said “the two bridges that we may likely demolish are Jibowu and Costain to give way to the rail lines. “But we are rebuilding them immediately; we are not going to abandon them. “The challenges will be in the cities like Lagos, Abekouta and Ibadan because we have to pay compensation, look at the water pipes, gas pipes, houses and cables. “In Lagos especially, we deal with bridges, electric cables and water pipes and other assets.” Amaechi also said that CCECC was consulting with Lagos State Water Corporation, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation( NNPC), among others, to facilitate relocation of water and gas pipe lines that were parallel to railway line. He added that CCECC would start laying tracks by December in Lagos, noting that parts of the rail lines that would be used for the project would arrive the country by end of November. The minister while inspecting the level of work done, called for speedy work by CCECC so as to meet the deadline. He called on Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to ensure that adequate security was provided for officials of CCECC handling the construction of the rail line. He urged the Coordinator of the project, Mr Leo Tim, to complete the necessary documentation to facilitate provision of security on site by relevant security agencies. The minister visited Ijoko, Papalanto, Itori and Ewekoro community in Ogun State as part of the monthly site monitoring to ensure the project met the timeline by December 2018. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/11/new-railway-lines-lagos-bridges-demolished/

Nigeria commercial nerve centre , Lagos, has been ranked the second cheapest city in the world for expatriates. According to a report by the Economic Intelligence Unit on Monday , Lagos which fell 16 places to 132 nd place on the world priciest cities index joins Kazakhstan ’ s Almaty at the bottom . The report said, “Although Nigeria has been attracting significant interest and investment in recent years, the fall in global oil prices has driven a collapse in the value of the Nigerian naira , which pushed down relative pricing , despite strong local inflation. The relative cost of living in Lagos has more than halved since 2008 , which might signal renewed interest from foreign investors , with price levels so low by international standards. “ The Worldwide Cost of Living 2017 report saw Asian cities take five of the top ten spots, thanks to a sustained recovery in the strength of the Japanese yen that propelled Tokyo and Osaka back into the top ten, alongside Singapore and Seoul . Singapore was ranked the most expensive city in the world for expatriates for the fourth consecutive year . Western Europe accounted for a further four cities , with stalwarts Zurich and Geneva in third and seventh position respectively. Paris , the only Eurozone city , came in eighth position and the Danish capital Copenhagen , which pegs its currency to the Euro, rounded off the top ten. New York was the lone North American representative, falling to ninth position owing to a slight weakening of the U .S . dollar , which also affected the position of other US cities . In spite of topping the ranking , “Singapore still offers relative value in some categories, especially compared with its regional peers ,” the report said . It remains significantly cheaper for categories such as household goods, personal care and domestic help , but is still the most expensive place in the world to buy and run a car , the report found . In contrast , Seoul , Tokyo and Osaka were the three most expensive places in the world to buy staple goods. The Worldwide Cost of Living is a twice- yearly survey that compares more than 400 individual prices across 160 products and services that include food , rent, transport and recreational costs , among others . www.punchng.com/lagos-ranked-second-cheapest-city-worldwide-singapore-worlds-priciest/

South West Nigeria took the lion share of the appointments made so far by President Muhammadu Buhari since he took office on 29 May 2015. According to a list of 157 appointments provided by the Presidency on Saturday, South West Nigerians took 38, followed by the North West, Buhari’s region, which took 30. North East and South East took 23 slots each, while North Central took 21 and South South 22. The figures and names were provided in response to allegations that President Buhari had favoured the Northern part of the country in the appointments announced so far. The publication proved the contrary. Rather the South of Nigeria accounted for 83 of the posts while the North took 74. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/11/buharis-appointments-south-west-nigeria-took-lion-share/
