1. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has taken the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to task over the increasing number of out-of-school children in the country, calling on the agency to intensify efforts to reverse the trend. 2. The FCT Minister gave the charge when he received a delegation from UBEC, led by the Executive Secretary, Hamid Bobboyi on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja on Thursday, October 17, 2024. 3. The Minister recalled that the Almajiri school system was introduced during his tenure as the Minister of Education in partnership with UBEC to address the challenges of out of school children in the country and called for more efforts from the UBEC to improve the worrisome situation. 4. Barrister Wike who also stated that the security challenges in the country could not be addressed without reducing the number of out of school children, further called on other States of the country to also complement the efforts of UBEC in bringing children back to school. 5. According to the FCT Minister, “All of us know the problems of not just girl child education but out of school children. I don’t know what you are doing as regards to all our children roaming the streets. It is the function of UBEC. 6. “When we were in education, that’s when we started the Almajiri schools. In fact, in the whole Northern States, the only State I never visited was Yobe. I visited virtually all the States in the North, Southwest and the South South and Southeast where you have more boys dropping out. We tried to see what we could do. 7. “In the North, we talk about Almajiri and the girl child education and I do know that through UBEC, we were able to build a lot of schools. We were able to buy clothing and sandals and feed them. 8. “I don’t know what it is now because the number has tripled. It’s so annoying. I do know that you are doing your best but I do know that the States too need to complement your efforts. So many States do not want to pay the counterpart funding which is very unfortunate. 9. “The insecurity we are talking about today can never be resolved if we don’t bring these children back to school”. 10.Barrister Wike, who noted that the increasing influx of people in the FCT from other parts of the country was also contributing to the number of out of school children in the nation’s capital, said the FCT Administration was doing its best to also address the situation. 11.He acknowledged the vital role of the UBEC in the provision of qualitative education in the country and pledged the continued support of the FCT Administration to the activities of the Commission. 12.Responding to a request for land allocation by the Executive Secretary UBEC, to enable the commission construct staff quarters in the FCT, the Minister frowned at a situation where institutions are allocated land without developing them, which he said was attracting shanties and criminals to the FCT. 13.He said institutions seeking for land allocation in the FCT must agree to develop the land within a given timeframe and also demonstrate their financial capacity to carry out such developmental activities before allocations are made. 14.The Minister said, “What we have found out is that most institutions apply for land, you give them land. 20 years, 15 years, no development and then people go and build shanties, which of course attracts criminals to stay and then it becomes a problem to us. 15.“When you begin to go there and say they should move, then people will come to say ‘oh people are suffering, the economy is very hard, it’s where they are trying to find what to eat’. It becomes another problem for us. 16.“Now, for us to give land to any agency, you have to have an agreement with the FCTA through the land Department that you are going to build within a specific time”. He added that the agreement would state clearly the commitment of the agency; ‘If we cannot, you take back your land’. 17.Speaking earlier, the Executive Secretary UBEC, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi acknowledged the development strides that have been recorded within the education subsector in the FCT under the current FCT Administration, especially the renovation and construction of schools as well as support to other education activities. 18.The Executive Secretary also commended the smart school initiatives in the FCT, which, he said, was encouraging a more modern way of teaching and pledged the readiness of the Commission to collaborate with the FCT to move education forward. 19.Present during the visit were, the Chief of Staff to the Minister, Hon. 1. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has reiterated that the forthcoming Africa Military Games will showcase the potential of the FCT and Nigeria to Africa and the world. 2. Barrister Wike said this in Abuja on Thursday, October 10, 2024, during a World Press Conference held jointly with the Defence Headquarters on the forthcoming Africa Military Games scheduled for November 18th to 30th in the FCT. 3. He said the games will be an opportunity to send a message across the world that the FCT and, indeed, the entire country is safe and thanked the Chief of Defence of Staff, General Christopher Musa, for bringing the games to the FCT. 4. He said, “What you have done is to take the bull by the horns by showcasing Nigeria and Abuja, in particular, to the entire of Africa and the world. 5. “You may not understand the impact this will have on the FCT and Nigeria. First of all, they will come to appreciate the fact that FCT, the capital of Nigeria, is safe, and to that extent, Nigeria is safe. 6. “Where you have over 3000 people coming to the city at a go, you can see what they will go back with; they will be our ambassadors and tell outsiders that indeed, Abuja is one of the best cities in Africa and indeed Nigeria is really moving forward”. 7. Barrister Wike who also stated that the military is not just about warfare, further noted that the Games will be an avenue for athletes within the armed forces also to showcase their sporting talents. He reaffirmed the FCT Administration's commitment to hosting the event successfully. 8. He said, “On our part, we have said so before, and I want to reiterate that this opportunity, we will not let it go. We will do everything to support you for a successful hosting, and your colleagues will be proud of you. 9. “So many people do not understand that the military is not only about going to fight wars. The military should also relax. The military has people who are boxers, good wrestlers, and good footballers, and trying to relate with their colleagues is key. 10.“You can imagine, from the 18th of November to the 30th of November, the kind of social activities that will take place and relax people. 11.“So, Chief of Defence Staff, I thank you for asserting that Nigeria should host this all-important game. The time is not on our side. 18th of November is almost just one month away. So, we should do all that we can and work round the clock to make sure that we achieve this. 12.“On the part of the FCT, be sure that we are going to give all the necessary support and make sure that security is tight in the FCT”, the Minister stressed. 13.Speaking earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, said the Africa Military Games is a prestigious event that brings together military personnel from across the African continent to compete in various sporting disciplines. 14.He said the event will bring significant benefits to the FCT and provide an opportunity for the armed forces to showcase their skills, foster camaraderie among participants, and strengthen military cooperation and partnerships. 15.“The hosting of the African military Games is a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to promoting peace and security in the region and an opportunity to demonstrate our capability as the host nation. 16.“The games will provide a platform for our armed forces to compete at an international level, exchange best practices with their counterparts from other African countries and build lasting relationships that will contribute to the overall security and stability of the continent”. 17.He thanked the FCT Minister for being a wonderful host and expressed confidence that the event would meet international standards and bring global recognition to the country. 18.Speaking at the briefing, the President of the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), Major General Maikano Abdullahi, commended the state of sports facilities in the FCT and said all neighbouring countries would be participating in the Games, which he said was aimed at promoting friendship through sports among military personnel in Africa. 19.In his remarks, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2024 Africa Military Games, Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, who disclosed the theme for the event as “Enhancing Military Cooperation Through Sports,” said at least 3000 athletes and officials were expected from 42 countries that have indicated interest in participating in the Games. 20.Present at the briefing were very senior officers from the Defence and Service Headquarters and the FCTA. 1. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has the support of the FCT Administration for the successful hosting of the African Military Games scheduled to take place in the FCT in November of this year. 2. Barrister Wike made the pledge when a delegation from the Defence Headquarters led by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. 3. The Minister described the event as a welcome development, saying it will provide an opportunity to showcase Nigeria and the FCT to Africa and the world. 4. He further stated that the Games would also help boost economic activities and showcase the positive aspects of Nigerian society. 5. He said, “This African Military Games coming up in November in Abuja will also showcase the city of Abuja, where over 40 countries will be participating. It’s a welcome development. One is the economic activities; two, it will also show that Nigeria and Abuja are safe. 6. “Sometimes, as you said, people have an impression from the outside without even having first-hand information. So, I believe that when they come here, they will go back home with a different narrative. 7. “On our part, we have no choice but to give you the necessary support because our city will host this international game. 8. “So, we want to assure you that we will fully participate and give you all the necessary support so that it will be a successful event. Whatever you think we can do, do not hesitate to tell us quickly”, the FCT Minister stressed. 9. The FCT Minister also commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their role in fighting insecurity in the FCT and the campaign against insurgency in other parts of the country and pledged the continued support of the FCT Administration to the Nigerian Armed Forces. 10.Earlier in his remark, the Chief of Defence Staff said they were on the visit to inform the FCT Minister about the African Military Games holding in the FCT in November and solicited the FCT Minister's support to ensure a hitch-free event. 11.The Chief of Defence Staff said that armed forces from about 40 countries would participate in the African Military Games for one week in the FCT, adding that it would also provide an opportunity to correct some erroneous impressions about the country. 12.The CDS further commended the Minister for providing infrastructure in the FCT and pledged the Armed Forces' support for the security of lives and property in the nation’s capital. 13.He said, “We appreciate you and want to let you know that the Armed Forces is here to support you in whatever way we can. …Reaffirms commitment to addressing challenges in land administration in the FCT 1. Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has pledged the support of the FCT Administration for the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). 2. Barrister Wike made the pledge in Abuja on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, when a delegation from AMCON, led by its Managing Director, Mr. Gbenga Alade, paid him a courtesy visit and assured his guests that the FCT Administration was willing to support AMCON to enable it to succeed in its mandate. 3. Barrister Wike congratulated the MD and his team on their appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to manage AMCON and urged them to remain focused in the discharge of their duties. 4. He said President Tinubu has identified competent individuals to change the country's narratives and expressed confidence that the MD and his team had what it takes to bring about positive changes. 5. The FCT Minister, who also noted that there were challenges before the AMCON, stressed that tough decisions were required to address the challenges 6. He said, “Mr. President believes in you. He thinks you can make a difference. For every opportunity you have, say that this was my contribution while I was there. It’s very key. This country must succeed. 7. “You were brought there because there are challenges. If there are no challenges, nobody will appoint you. There are challenges for you to solve”. 8. Reflecting on his equally challenging experience as the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Wike stated that the journey has not been easy but reaffirmed his determination to also succeed. 9. The FCT Minister regretted that government decisions were being viewed through ethnic and religious prisms but stressed that a leader must step on toes in order to succeed. 10. He recounted the challenges in land administration in the FCT, an area that he said was mired in corruption, but said he was in the office to change the narratives. 11. He said, “We have a problem in land administration. That is the place where we see corruption. People think that you are coming to share land when they appoint you as FCT Minister. 12. “That is the only thing you see here that as the Minister of the FCT, your business is to preside over land allocation—no other job; no infrastructure, no education, no health. You come to the office; everybody is land, land, land. Nothing more. 13. “So, when you have come to make changes, it becomes a problem; they will call you all sorts of names….We can’t continue in that way. Somebody must have to take the bull by the horns. That’s all about leadership”. 14. “You may not be right all the time, but you must take a decision and be firm, and that’s the only way this country can survive,” the Minister stressed. 15. Earlier in his remark, the MD AMCON said they were on a visit to pay homage to the Minister of the FCT. 16. Giving insight into the history and functions of AMCON, the MD said the agency was created by the Federal Government in 2010 to stabilize the banking industry, which was shaky and struggling with a large stock of bad loans. 17. He said the Federal Government founded AMCON to take over the bad loans from the banks, administer the loans and all the assets underlining them, and manage them on behalf of the Federal Government. 18. The MD acknowledged the giant strides recorded by the FCT Minister in infrastructure development. 19. SPEECH BY CP OLATUNJI RILWAN DISU PSC ON HIS ASSUMPTION OF DUTY AS THE 32ND COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, FCT POLICE COMMAND, ON OCTOBER 7, 2024 Officers of the FCT Police Command, esteemed members of the press, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, It is both an honor and a privilege to stand before you today as the new Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Inspector General of Police for entrusting me with this critical responsibility. As I assume this role, I am acutely aware of the security challenges facing the FCT and the foundational work laid by my predecessors to maintain relative peace. I am committed to building upon this groundwork and enhancing our efforts to significantly improve the security situation in our territory. 1. The FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has expressed displeasure over the pace of work on the Outer Southern Expressway II (OSEX II) to Wasa road project. 2. Barrister Wike made his feelings known while addressing journalists shortly after inspecting the on-going construction of the 15 kilometer Left-Hand Carriageway of Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX II) from Ring Road 1 to Wasa Junction on Friday, September 27, 2024. 3. The Minister who was visibly angry, said he was happy he came physically to inspect the project as he was misinformed on the progress of work, adding that the contractor had earlier promised to deliver the project by December 2024 and not May, 2025 as being muted. 4. He said, “I am not encouraged. Yesterday my attention was drawn to this road when I went to inspect the Apo-Karshi Road which took us through Wasa and I tried to find out where the company, CGC is working. CGC is one of the respected companies as far as I am concerned. But as far as this road is concerned, I am not happy. 5. “I summoned the FCDA and CGC yesterday to really come here today to see things for ourselves, not every time them telling you that they have done so so per cent of work. There was no equipment when I passed here yesterday. But I believe because I said I was coming here today, they have mobilised equipment. And these are things I will not accept. 6. “We have paid more than 80 per cent of this contract, and the job, as far as I am concerned they have not done up to 50 per cent..I have told the Director Engineering Services to go and sit down with CGC and bring up the work plan. 7. “CGC has told us that they are going to complete this work by May, well let them show their commitment that by May they are going to hand over this project. The Minister who said the FCTA does not have any relationship with non performing contractors, stressed the need for routine inspections to ensure that projects are executed as scheduled, adding that relying on reports will not yield the desired result. 9. He said, “We don’t have any relationship with non-performing contractors. Anybody knows our position that if you don’t perform, we kick you out. There is no sentiment about it. Whether you are an indigenous contractor or a foreign contractor we don’t care. 10.“All we are concerned about is the work. If you do the work, we go along with you. If you don’t do the work, we kick you out. And we make you to pay for it. And there will be sanctions. You cannot just collect our money and we just say ok, go. 1. The Hon. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has appointed Dr. Udo Samuel Atang as the Senior Special Assistant on Administration. 2. Dr. Atang is a seasoned administrator with a wealth of experience in public service, governance, and administration and was, until his new appointment, the Head of Service of the FCT Administration. 3. Born on the 27th of March 1964, Dr Atang, who hails from Eket local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History obtained from the University of Calabar in 1987 and began his working career in the defunct Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory in 1989. 4. Over the next thirty five years, he held various senior administrative and strategic positions in the FCT Administration culminating in his appointment as the pioneer Head of Service of the FCTA in March 2024. 5. His tenure as Head of Service was extended for 6 months by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his reaching the retirement age of 60 on March 27, 2024. 6. Dr Atang’s expertise, has been instrumental in driving various reforms and initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations. 7. In his new role as Senior Special Assistant on Administration, Dr. Atang, who is a fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, will work closely with the FCT Minister in overseeing key administrative functions within the administration, ensuring seamless coordination of activities, and providing strategic advisory support to the Minister. 8. FCTA PRESS RELEASE 1. The FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike on Thursday, September 26, 2024 inspected the ongoing Apo-Karshi Road project as well as the newly awarded emergency rehabilitation of the Nyanya-Karshi road project with a call on the contractors to deliver on time. 2. Speaking with journalists after the inspection, Barrister Wike who said that the Apo-Karshi Road project was very dear to the Administration, expressed doubt that the Contractor – Messr Kakatar, could deliver on the April 2025 deadline as promised by the contractor. 3. He said, “We thought that within seven months they ought to have completed but unfortunately the contractor could not move to site because of some procurement processes. But thank God we have passed that stage now and they have also been mobilised. 4. “I still have my doubts, I will not lie to you, but the contractors are insisting that by April they would have completed this project. It is a project that is very dear to us. We know the importance of this road. So many people are eager to see that this road is completed on time so that it will ease off a lot of traffic. It will also boost the economic activities in this area. 5. “So let us give them (the contractor) the benefit of doubt and believe that they will play their own part. On our own part, we are doing what we are supposed to do. The funds are there to be given to them. 6. “And we believe that they should put more efforts. If I come back here again and see that they have improved on what we have seen on ground today, I will tell the treasury department to release further funds to them, but for now let’s watch them because we are very serious about this project”. 7. The Minister who said that government is a continuum, stressed that the benefit of moving on with the project far out weights the implication of abandoning it because of the myriads of issues surrounding the award of the project and the work being done, adding that the benefits for people were government’s main priority. 8. He said, “There a lot of things that happened in the award of this project but we try to move on and let people not think we are playing politics, but it wasn’t good at all, I can tell you that. But we have no choice than to see that the people do not suffer”. 9. While fielding questions on the option of cancelling the project and re-award it to a different contractor, the minister said: “People don’t understand that when you cancel a project there are many implications. There are financial implications and there are legal implications and so many things. So, what we will do is to continue to encourage the contractor to see that he finishes this project on time. 10.“We don’t have any problem on our own part, that is why from time to time we will come and check to see that the project is delivered on time”. 11.Speaking on the emergency rehabilitation of 18-kilometre Nyanya-Karshi road contracted to Messrs SCC Nigeria Limited, the Minister also stressed the importance of the road to the economic development of the area, saying that the decision to rehabilitate the road was necessitated by its deplorable condition, which he had observed during a prior visit to Apo-Karshi Road project. 12.He said, “What attracted me to the road, if you remember, when we came to this Karshi-Apo Road last time, we took that road and I saw how bad it was and I said this is not acceptable to us. And we wrote to Mr President and he approved that there should be immediate rehabilitation of that road. And we are doing it under emergency. And we contracted SCC to see how they can rehabilitate the road. 13.“It is an 18-kilometre road with streetlights and they have given us eight months to complete the work. We know how important that road is, look at many agencies of government along that road. So, if emergency rehabilitation on that road is done and the Apo Karshi Road is completed, then we are free to go” 14.Speaking on site both the Head of Engineering, SCC Nigeria Limited, Engr. Ori Aridor and the Executive Director Engineering, Kakatar Company Limited, Engr. Ezekiel Panan assured the Minister that the projects would be completed on time. 15.Anwering questions on the ongoing strike action by primary school teachers in the Area Councils, Barrister Wike warned that if the strike lingers, the FCT Administration may be compelled to use the 10 per cent IGR meant for the area councils to pay the teachers. 16.He said, “I have invited the area council chairmen and the NUT to sit down. We try to do what we can do in order to see that the system is moving well. It is unfortunate that the teachers are on strike. 17.“That will mean that if the teachers are not paid, I will use the 10 per cent IGR which we normally pay to them to pay the teachers. No serious government will fold their arms and watch the teachers stay at home while the children suffer. 1. The FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has directed the Department of Development Control of the FCTA to embark on the demolition of structures obstructing road ways in the Kugbo International Market in Kugbo district of the FCT. 2. The Minister gave the directive on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, during an inspection tour of the Kugbo International Market under construction as well as the structure proposed to house the new Ministery of Livestock Development in the Central Business District. 3. Barrister Wike who said that the Market was a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the Abuja Investment Company (AICL) – an agency of the FCT Administration- and a private business organisation – Mesotho Group Limited also said a market of such magnitude was an investment worth encouraging. 4. He said, “This is an investment that should be encouraged. An international market of this standard. Though there are a lot of problems, there is encroachment, but I have directed the Department of Development Control to immediately demolish any structure that will cause an impediment. As you can see, this is a road corridor, and we will not allow that. 5. “The Development Control Director is here and has been ordered to immediately move in with his men to demolish whatever is an obstacle”. 6. The Minister also urged Messrs Mesotho Group to invest more funds to ensure the completion of the project. He said, “The investor should as a matter of fact put in more funds to see to the realisation of the entire market. I have asked him when he thinks the whole thing will be ready and he said we should give him till January. 7. “However, the first phase has been completed. So, we will therefore see what we can do to open the first phase. And some of these our traders on the road have to come in here and give us the free traffic that we deserve". 8. Speaking on the possibility of acquiring shops for the less privileged traders and entreprenuers under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the Minister said “We will do everything we can to support people. Those who have not indicated interest, we will see how, through the empowerment programme of the Renewed Hope Agenda in the FCT, we can see if we can put in some funds by taking some stores and giving to our people in order for them to be involved in one trade or the other. 9. “So, we will do everything to see that people move into the phase one of this market as quickly as possible. We are happy with what we have seen”. 10.The Minister who said that the Kugbo International Market will create a lot of employment opportunities for residents and improve the economy of the Territory, added that the market will also assist in the road decongestion efforts of the FCTA by ensuring that traders leave the roadsides and conduct their businesses in the market. 11.Barrister Wike stressed that the cost of the shops should not be the reason for traders to sell on the roads and added that the FCTA through the AICL will work with the investors to ensure fair pricing of shops in the market. 12.He said, “You don’t expect an investor to open up and you move in for free. Nobody does that and it should not be encouraged. And that is not why I will allow people to trade on the road. The issue before was that there is no market. Now market has been provided and you are saying it’s the cost. Anyway, we will also not allow the investor to take advantage of that and people cannot afford it. No. 13.“The Abuja Investment Company will sit down with the investor and see what agreement can be reached. Even if it means putting our own stake to see that people get allocation here”. 14. Also fielding questions on the building proposed for the use of the Ministry of Livestock Development, the Minister said it was a directive from the President, to the FCTA for the refurbishment of the 9 storey building. 15.The Minister who said the refurbishment of the building was considered an emergency, added that with the directive from Mr President, work will commence immediately, and the new Ministry will take ownership upon completion. 16.He said, “First of all, we have told you that we are doing emergency work. The FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has pledged the total commitment of the FCT Administration to work with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Capacity Development for Nutrition Improvement in the FCT (CADNIP) as well as the Upgrading of Integrated Urban Development Master Plan of Abuja. 2. The Minister made the pledge on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 when he received the Japan Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Matsunaga Kazuyoshi who led a delegation from JICA on a courtesy visit to the FCTA. 3. Barrister Wike who stressed that nutrition was very good for health, education and Agriculture in the FCT, said the Administration will look into possible ways of increasing budgetary allocation toward nutrition, which, he said has improved in the previous years. 4. He also said that the FCTA will play its own part to ensure that the project for the urban development of Abuja comes to fruition. 5. The Minister said, “I like the presentation of how far you have gone with the nutrition program. We can see that there are a lot of improvement and we will want to say that for the 2025 budget we will try as much as we can to see if we can improve on our budgeting system for that. 6. “Nutrition is very key for health, education and also very key for Agriculture, so if we add more, it will go a long way in improving the standard of these three major sectors. 7. “On Regional Planning, you can be rest assured that, just like you stated what you expect from us, we assure you that the three items which you have itemised under your expectations from FCTA, be assured that we will do it as quickly as possible.. For us as head of the FCTA, be rest assured that it is a project that we are keen and committed to and we will do all we can to see that the project comes to fruition”. 8. Barrister Wike who commended the Ambassador for his efforts towards stopping open defecation in the FCT, expressed the hope that the envoy could continue the good work while wishing him well in his future endeavours. 9. The Minister who reminisced the time he was Minister of Education and had worked with JICA on the teaching of mathematics and other science subjects in schools across the country, commended JICA and expressed the hope that the project was still ongoing considering its importance in the nation’s education sector. 10. He reiterated the commitment of the FCTA to continue to work with JICA to fulfil the objective of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the FCT. 11. Earlier the Japan Ambassador to Nigeria had said that the visit, which was his first and incidentally, his last to the FCT Minister as he was leaving in October, was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Japan, adding that without the development of the FCT, Nigeria cannot economically grow and prosper. 12. He said the visit was also to intimate the Minister of his project in the FCT to end open defecation, which, according to him, has been a success in the Kwali pilot community, as well as two very important projects by JICA on improving nutrition in the FCT and the Upgrade of the Abuja Master plan. 13. 1. Minister of the FCT, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike on Saturday August 14, 2024 visited the Zeberced Limited Quarry, the biggest Quarry in West Africa, located in the Kubwa District of Abuja. 2. The FCT Minister stated that the visit was at the invitation of the Managing director of Zeberced Group, Ayden Adil Kurt to see the activities at the Quarry. 3. Barr. Wike who was impressed with the humongous scale of industrial activities at the quarry, including the production of gravel, stone dust and asphalt amongst others commended the company for its efforts and commitment to the project. 4. The Minister who also said he was encouraged by the activities at the quarry wondered why contractors still quoted exorbitant costs for construction projects in the FCT seeing as the essential raw materials were readily available at the quarry. 5. He said, “The Managing Director has always invited me to come to see what they are doing at the factory which is the biggest quarry in West Africa. I’ve taken the opportunity to look at the environment and see what they are doing. 6. “That shows that ordinarily, the cost of construction ought not to be very expensive, particularly in the FCT. Apart from the equipment that are being imported that are used for this quarry, the raw material is available here and I wonder why contractors will be talking about cost of aggregate as if these are imported. They are not imported. They are made here. 7. “So, I really want to encourage this company. It’s really amazing that we have this type of manufacturing going on here and from what the MD said, they have over 800 residents who are working directly here”. 8. The Minister who also expressed concerns over the environmental impact of the quarry however said he has been reassured by the Managing Director that the environmental impact assessment has shown that the company has adhered to the approved standard. 9. Barr. Wike further thanked the Zeberced Group for its decision to expand the access road to the Abuja Industrial Park, which is also being undertaken by the company at the Idu Industrial District and assured of continued support of the government. 10. He said, “This is the same company that is trying to carry out an Industrial Park at Idu and which we are going to give all the necessary support. 11. “As of yesterday, I’ve sent out a letter to the Ministry of Finance on the tax credit to enable them to carry out the other one-way carriage to make it a double carriage, which is being done by Salini Construction Company. 12. 1. The Hon. Minister of the FCT, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike on Saturday, September 7, 2024 signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MOU), with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group for the lighting up of the FCT, using solar power and ensuring rural water supply. 2. While signing the documents with the two Chinese companies in Beijing, China as part his visit to that country on the entourage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), Barr. Wike said the selected projects would be completed across the FCT in time for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the creation of the FCT. 3. For seamless work, he said, “The whole area of Maitama, the whole area of Asokoro, Wuse, Central Business Area, the Airport Road, down to Bill Clinton Drive will be handled by CCECC while CGCOC would handle the districts of Mabushi, Katampe and Garki”. 4. Speaking further on the provision of water, the Minister said “And then again, we have gone further, you know the Greater Abuja Water Works which is being handled by CGCOC, that has been awarded for years … has reached 75 per cent completion. We believe that by the grace of God by this December, or thereabout they would have completed it”. 5. On the need to equally ensure water supply in the satellite areas of the FCT, the Minister said “ The President said look, you can’t only provide for the city, you have to talk about the rural areas and so we are keeping up with this idea that there is need to have satellite town water supply in Gwagwalada, Kwali and Kuje. We have now signed the MOU with CGC for them to carry out this assignment”. 6. The Minister stressed that the projects, which would further ensure the FCT's development, were pushed by Mr. President at the FOCAC summit as part of his agenda to bring hope back to residents of the FCT. 7. Speaking on lighting up the city, He said, " One key project which is very dear to us and one of the reasons why we are here today is to light up Abuja because Abuja will be fifty years by next year so it should be a jubilee year for us. And we want Abuja to be like other cities, like what we see in Beijing …we have gone round and we have seen light everywhere and that is how we want Abuja to be.” 9. While appreciating the quality of work done by CCECC in the execution of projects, the Minister thanked the company on behalf of Mr President for the development of the FCT and Nigeria in general. 10. He also appreciated the company’s efforts in making sure the commercial operation of the Abuja Metro line became possible during the first anniversary celebration of President Tinubu. 11. The minister said the completion of the project was a testament to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that the rail is operational due to the efforts of CCEC. 14. While expressing appreciation to the President for granting the FCTA approval to embark on these very important projects for the FCT, the Minister urged the CGCOC to ensure quick delivery of the project and ensure that water supply in the satellite towns becomes a reality. 15. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike said that the Abuja Industrial Park project in the FCT will grow the country’s economy and create employment for the youths. 2. The FCT Minister made the statement when he visited the Abuja Industrial Park being developed by Zeberced Group at the Idu Industrial District of Abuja on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. 3. Barr. Wike said the Abuja Industrial Park project, which has been approved as a free zone, will attract lots of businesses to the area due to the availability of regular power supply. 4. The FCT Minister who was also informed by the MD, Zeberced Group, Mr. Adil Aydin Kurt, that the project will create about 40,000 jobs in the FCT when fully operational, commended the company for its commitment and assured of continued support of the FCT Administration. 5. According to the Minister, “This is what we are talking about; growing the economy. This is what we are talking about; creating employment for the youths. Here you see that so many companies will have opportunities to come here because it has now been approved as a free zone for them and there will be regular electricity, which keeps manufacturers and businessmen going. 6. “From what the MD said, it’s going to create not less than 40,000 direct employment and that is huge. There is no government that will not support this kind of investment”. 7. The FCT Minister also commended the company over its decision to expand the road leading to the park and pledged the FCT Administration’s support to ensure that the road project comes to fruition. . 8. The FCT Minister expressed optimism that the road project, when completed will accelerate the development of Idu District. 9. He said, “Having gone around, we can attest to the fact that this is really what we need to grow our economy... you can imagine how the whole of Idu will be developed. This is what every government craves for and we must give them the necessary support. 10. “There is no city that if you want to develop and you don’t have an industrial park. How will that city develop? So, we are very happy and we want to thank the company Zeberced for their commitment to making sure that Abuja is growing, 11. Barr Wike further commended the Zeberced Group for keeping to high standards and branding the items being produced at the industrial Park, including polypropylene pipes and sandwich panel roofing sheets as made in Nigeria, assuring that the products would speak for themselves. 12. He said, “There is no need to discredit yourself or not to sell yourself. I really thank them and urge them to continue to do what they are doing”. 13. In continuation of the efforts to modernize transportation in the Federal Capital Territory, the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, on Monday, August 26, 2024, flagged off the construction of a bus and taxi terminal in the Central Business District of Abuja. 2. Speaking during the flag off ceremony at the site of the proposed terminal, Barr. Wike stressed the commitment of the FCT Administration to expanding transportation infrastructure in the FCT with the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. 3. The Minister who stated that the provision of road infrastructure in the FCT will not be complete without linking them to the various bus and taxi terminals equally said the project will be constructed according to modern standards and will have facilities for relaxation, including restaurants. 4. The Minister recalled that the FCTA had earlier flagged off the construction of two bus terminals in Mabushi and Kugbo axis of the FCT and added that the provision of a bus terminal in the CBD will not only improve transportation but will also help to address security challenges in the FCT. 5. He said the management of the bus terminals will ensure that buses and taxi operators at the various terminals are clearly identified for security reasons, stressing that terminals will also help to curtail the menace of commercial cab robberies known as one chance robbery in the FCT. 6. He said, “Before now, we have flagged off two bus terminals, one in Mabushi and one in Kugbo. This one is for the Central Business District, which is like the centre of the city. 7. “Some of us who have had the privilege of traveling overseas or traveling to other countries have come across these facilities. What comes to mind is why is it that we cannot also have the same facilities that we enjoy when we go outside the country? 8. “Abuja is a beautiful city. By the grace of God, through the support of Mr. President, we have continued to expand the road infrastructure, improve the efficiency of public transportation, reduce traffic congestion and provide a more comfortable and convenient travel experience for both residents and visitors. 9. “What we are trying to do is to integrate and improve our transport system. It is going to cut off this so-called “one chance” that is always committed here. 10. “The management of these bus and taxi terminals will know that these are the vehicles that go to so and so place and these are the vehicles you have boarded. For security reasons, we will be able to identify them, unlike where you will go and stand on the road, you don’t know who is plying the vehicle. 11. “Part of what we are doing today is establishing a bus and taxi terminal that you can go and say that I am going to Gwagwalada and we are aware. If anything happens, this is the vehicle and this is the driver that will be held responsible. 12. Barr. Wike who also described the construction of the terminals as a practical demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, assured that the project will be adequately funded to ensure its timely completion. 13. ….as FCT YOUTH GROUPS OPT OUT OF PLANNED PROTESTS Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, on Monday, July 29, 2024, revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a Mandate Secretariat for Youth Affairs in the FCT. The FCT Minister made the revelation during an interactive engagement with residents of the Bwari and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the FCT, in furtherance of the peace-building process across the FCT, in light of the planned nationwide protests. Addressing the residents during the town hall engagement, which was also attended by the Area Council Chairmen and Heads of the various security agencies in the FCT, the FCT Minister, recalled that he had earlier promised to present the request for the establishment a Mandate Secretariat for the Youths in the FCT, adding that the President has approved as requested. He said, “On Saturday, I told the people of AMAC, when they requested for the establishment of the Youth Secretariat; I said take it for granted; I know that when I meet Mr. President, he will approve”. “Yesterday, while in Kwali, I repeated what I said. I want to bring you good news. I saw the President last night and the President has approved the establishment of a Mandate Secretariat on Youth”, the Minister said. Reacting to the resolve of the FCT Youths to not participate in the planned nationwide protests, the Minister commended them for their show of maturity and support for the government and assured of the continued provision of basic infrastructure to improve the lives of the people. He said the ongoing construction of rural roads in the satellite towns of the FCT would be completed and commissioned by December this year to improve the lives of the people in the rural areas. The Minister equally assured that the perceived issues of injustice and marginalization of the indigenous people as highlighted in the course of the engagement would be addressed to give the people a sense of belonging in the FCT and commended them for coming out to express their grievances in a civilized way. The Minister further stated that the government of President Tinubu was committed to solving the economic problems in the country and called for patience and understanding of the FCT people. Barr. Wike while also noting that the FCT has a generation of residents who were born and schooled in the FCT and know no other place that they call home than the FCT, equally called for peaceful coexistence of all Nigerians in the nation’s capital. Earlier in his address, the Immediate past representative of the FCT in the Public Complaints Commission, Hon. The FCT Minister made the call in Abuja on Thursday, July 24, 2024 when he inspected the ongoing construction of the 5km access road from the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) to the old Keffi road, also known as Saburi Road, in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the FCT. 3. Barr. Wike, who spoke in pidgin English while interacting with residents of Saburi, said those behind the protests were only working for their selfish political interests, adding that the problems in the country could not be solved by acts of protests. 4. He empathized with FCT residents over the economic difficulties in the country and reassured that the government was sincere, committed, and working round the clock to provide the needed succor. 5. “I HAVE TAKEN A PERSONAL INTEREST IN THIS ROAD”, - PLEDGES ITS COMPLETION IN SEVEN MONTHS 1. The Minister of FCT, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, inspected the ongoing construction of the Apo/Karshi Road in the Federal Capital Territory. 2. The Minister who expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of work on the road since the contract was awarded in 2011, stressed that he has taken a personal interest in the project and will see to its completion in the next seven months. 3. The FCT Minister blamed the delay in project execution on politics and personal interests. 4. The Minister who also noted that the people have lost confidence in the government as a result, stressed that the present Administration, through the Renewed Hope Agenda, has come to restore the lost confidence of the people. 5. Responding to his company’s inability to complete the work on schedule, the Project officer for Kakatar Engineering, Engr Ezekiel Panan said that in addition to the Apo Karshi Road, his company was also awarded the contract to construct the Karshi-Ara Road into Nasarawa State. 6. Barr. Wike however explained that this situation was unacceptable as the Karshi-Ara Road was an interstate road which was not the responsibility of the FCT Administration to construct. 6. He said, “I don’t see the reason why we should do the road from Karshi to Ara in Nasarawa because it is an interstate road. Interstate road has to do with the Federal Government. FCT cannot fund an interstate road, except it becomes a joint venture. 7. “The one that concerns FCT is the Karshi/Apo, which of course the people have been yearning for. It’s very unfortunate that for 13 good years, this road has been abandoned and I want to say clearly that part of the problem we have here is politics. Everything we politicize and that is why the development cannot get quickly to our people. 8. “Under this present administration of the Renewed Hope Agenda, we will do everything possible to see the Karshi to Apo road is completed”. 9. The FCT Minister while also expressing doubt in the capacity of the contractor to complete the project, warned that it would no longer be business as usual. He said the contractor must quickly mobilize to site in the next few weeks and demonstrate seriousness before funds would be released. 10.He said “I want to urge the contractor, it will no longer be business as usual. I don’t care who you are, I don’t care where you come from. You must show that you will be serious. In the next few weeks, I want to see your equipment on ground before funds will be released. I am not going to release funds when I’ve not seen that capacity. 11.“So, they must move the equipment to site and then that will convince me and then we can release some funds. But I can tell you that I’m not happy at all. This is not what citizens bargained for. Therefore, I will take this road as a personal project to make sure we complete this road”. 12.Speaking further on the capacity of indigenous contractors, the Minister said some of them were “political contractors”, adding that they were the ones giving bad names to local contractors. 13.The Minister however said that he still has confidence in the local contractors but stressed that he will continue to prioritize the major contractors for major roads in the FCT. 14.He said, “Major roads, I don’t play politics with it and that’s why people will say, why do you give your roads to Julius Berger. What I want is the best quality for the people. When you go to the city, you see Julius Berger, you see Setraco, you see CGC. It’s because we want the best for the people. And if I was in charge that period, I wouldn’t have allowed it for a major road like this”. 15.On whether the FCTA will consider the dualisation of the Karshi/Apo road to accommodate foreseen traffic, the Minister said the plan is to stick to the original design of a single lane carriageway, adding that its expansion would be considered in future as the area develops. 16.He said what was important for now is for the people to have a good road that will enable them to go on about their businesses, adding that the construction of the road will also reduce insecurity in the FCT. 17. The Minister also appealed for the understanding of the communities around the Karshi area, assuring that the government is ready to work for their interests in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. 18. He also sued for patience among Nigerians, saying that the present government was working to address the challenges in the country, adding that the problems in the country could not be solved overnight. 18 Speaking on the planned protest by some Nigerians Barr Wike urged young Nigerians in the FCT not to embark on anti-government protests, saying that the planned protest was politically motivated. 19.while urging them to be patient, he said, “A government has just come to see what it can do at least to move from where we are to a certain level and you say that miracle must be performed within one year. 20.“You are here now and we are talking about contract that was awarded 13 good years ago. What has happened? Nothing, and now a government has come to see how it can fix all these things and we are too much in a haste that it must be done now. That is not possible. The protest is a political protest. 21.“Yes, everybody is not happy that there is hunger, everybody is not happy that there is unemployment. But this unemployment was not started and was not created by this administration”. 22.The Minister added that, “The administration is just trying to put things together which of course will take some time. I agree with Nigerians, when you are hungry, you don’t want to listen to anything again because you are hungry. But understand that somebody is trying to solve that problem of hunger. 23.“So let us not listen to political protests, political jobbers who just want to be popular. …ASSURES OF THE COMPLETION OF ALL INITIATED PROJECTS 1. The Hon, Minister of the FCT, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike on Thursday, July 4, 2024, flagged off the reconstruction of the 25km Kwaita-Yebu road in Kwali Area Council of the FCT. 2. The flag-off event which took place at the project site in Kwaita attracted a mammoth crowd of residents of Kwaita who came out to witness the event. 3. In his address, Barr. Wike urged FCT residents to have hope in the Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who, he said, has come to renew the lost hope of all Nigerians. 4. He said: “All of you have lost hope as far as this road is concerned. You never believed that any government will come back to this road because of the disappointments you had before. That is why Mr President said he wants to bring back the hope that you have lost. By the grace of God, that hope is back”. 5. The Minister also assured the residents that the road project will be completed as with all projects initiated by the FCTA, adding that the FCTA will not embark on projects it would not complete. 6. Barrister Wike who also assured of the availability of funds for the road project directed the contractor to ensure the delivery of the project in 12 months as against the 18 months originally stated for the completion of the project, adding that funds would be made available. 7. “We will fund you because I have seen the importance of this road to the people and we must not disappoint them. So, my message to you is, do not lose hope. By next year, by the special grace of God we will be here to commission this project”. 8. The Mister who disclosed that the six roads earlier flagged off in the six area councils would be commissioned before December 2024, said President Tinubu was determined to ensure that all areas of the FCT feel the impact of government. 9. “That is what the President owes you. We will do everything to ensure that the rural areas feel the impact of government. When the people do not feel the impact of government, they do not know that government exist. When the people are not feeling the positive impact of government then there is a disconnect between the people and the government. 10.So, when we are building the city, we must also build the rural areas. 11.The Minister thanked the residents for their support and implored them to continue to pray for the success of the current Administration while assuring that he will continue to work with individuals and groups, irrespective of party affiliation, for the development of the FCT. 12.He also said the FCTA will soon commence the rehabilitation of schools across the six area councils. 13.In his remarks the member representing Abuja South Federal Constituency, Honourable Abdurrahman Ajiya expressed confidence in the ability of the Minister to ensure that the road is completed on time and commended him for the efforts towards the development of the area councils of the FCT, while assuring him of the support of the National Assembly. 14.He stressed the importance of the kwaita-Yebu road to the people of the area while urging the Minister to also extend the reconstruction to not just Yebu but to Nasarawa State where the road originally leads to. 15.In his welcome address, the Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Hon. The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukoyade Ariwoola has conveyed the gratitude of the judiciary to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike over their support for the Nigerian judiciary 2. Justice Ariwoola made the expression during the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the court complex Abuja division of the Court of Appeal held at the site of the proposed building in Dakibiyu, Jabi District, Abuja on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. 3. The CJN described the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the five-storey complex as epoch making, saying that the facility will greatly enhance the functions of the courts, even as he reaffirmed the commitment of the judiciary to upholding the rule of law. 4. In his remarks, the FCT Minister, emphasized the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to creating the enabling environment for the judiciary to effectively discharge its function, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. 5. The Minister recalled that the President did not hesitate to give his approval for the construction of the court Complex when he presented the request, at a session of the Federal Executive Council adding that the President also insisted that all the relevant arms of government must be treated equally. 6. According to the Minister, “Mr. President said, why do you need to wait. Afterall, it is the FCT that rehabilitated the National Assembly Phase 1; it is FCT that rehabilitated the National Assembly Phase 2, which is an arm of government. So, why are we not going to do it for this arm of government…The three arms of government must be treated equally and he gave that approval”. 7. Barrister Wike also disclosed that the construction of the Appeal Court Complex will cost N37 billion and assured that adequate budgetary provision has been made for the project. 8. The Minister stressed that he will personally monitor the execution of the project to ensure its timely completion next year adding that the project would be available for use to celebrate the 2025 legal year. 9. Barrister Wike therefore charged the contractor to ensure that the project is completed within schedule, saying, “You have collected the first set of money. I don’t want to hear it has been raining. You collected the money when it was raining, so you must also do the job while it is raining”. 10. The FCT Minister while also acknowledging the important function of the judiciary and the need to provide judicial officers with comfortable accommodation where they can effectively discharge their duties, further disclosed that President Tinubu has also given approval for the construction of 40 houses for the Justices of the Court of Appeal, the Federal High Court and the FCT High Courts. 11. The Minister added that the President has also approved that the heads of courts, including the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, the Chief Judge of the FCT, the President of the National Industrial Court and the President of the Court of Appeal must have their retirement homes. 12. He said, “I want to assure you, by the grace of God, the foundation of these homes will be laid this August and before September next year, you will all have your keys to your houses. 13. He said approval has also been given by the President for the provision of more court rooms for the Magistrates, particularly in Maitama, Asokoro and Garki Districts of the FCT based on the request made by the Chief Judge of the FCT and assured that the projects would be completed by the next legal year. 14. President of the Court of Appeal, Hon Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem thanked the FCT Minister for fulfilling his promises, stating that the appeal court complex will ensure a conducive environment for the dispensation of justice in the country. 15. A high point of the event was the handing over of the plot's Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) by the FCT Minister to the President of the Court of Appeal. 16. In his remarks, the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi emphasized the vital role of the judiciary in the society and that the complex will serve as a beacon of hope and provide a conducive environment for the delivery of justice. 17. President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Maikyau in his goodwill message also thanked President Tinubu and the FCT Minister for initiating the project, 48 years after the creation of the FCT. 18. Giving an overview of the complex, the Executive Secretary FCDA, Engr. Shehu Hadi Ahmad said the complex will feature administrative offices, file rooms and conveniences and will provide an environment for effective discharge of justice in line will the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President. 19. The President who stated this on Thursday, June 6, 2024 when he commissioned the seventh FCT project as part of activities marking his one year in office, said the commissioning of Roads B6, B12, and Circle Road in the Central Area of the FCT was a significant milestone in his administration's commitment towards achieving the vision. 3. The President, who was represented by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, said the roads being commissioned were paving the way for enhanced economic activities, improved accessibility, and a higher quality of life for residents 4. Wike explained that the contract for the road being commissioned was awarded in 2007 at the sum of N48.5Billion and revised in 2021 to N98.8Billion but was never completed until now, a feat which he attributed to the leadership direction of President Tinubu. 15.“Mr. President, it may interest you to know that the contract for this road was awarded in 2007. When you talk about renewed hope, a road that was awarded in 2007, just one year of the administration of Mr. President, the road has been completed. 16.“For those who know mathematics, 2007, that’s how many years?... 17 good years. Today Mr. President has been able to complete it in just one year. This is called leadership. Leadership is key. With the right leadership, you will get the right result. Because we have the right leadership, we are getting the right results”. 17.He said, following the President’s matching orders in August 2024 when he and the Minister of state, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud were sworn-in as Ministers, that all abandoned projects must be completed before embarking on new projects, the FCT Administration has done just that, resulting in the setting aside of 58 per cent of the FCT 2024 budget for the completion of old projects. 18.The Minister used the opportunity to debunk some media report making the rounds that he had made Permanent Secretaries in the FCTA to bow before the President at an event, saying that asking the first set of Permanent Secretaries of the FCTA upon the implementation of the FCT Civil Service Commission act was a mark of honour and appreciation for those who have had their hopes revived. 19.He said, “Two days ago when the President came and we try to thank him for what he did in making sure that those who had already lost hope in their career progression and Mr. President brought back hope to them by making sure they get to the peak of their career. 20.“Before now FCTA do not have Permanent Secretaries. But with Mr. President way of Renewed Hope, he said they must get to the peak of their career by getting to the position of Permanent Secretary and Head of the Civil Service if possible and Mr. President granted that, and then I called out the Permanent Secretaries who are the beneficiaries to come out and take a bow and thank Mr. President. 21.“It is an honour to be called out to take a bow but some human beings can never see anything good, criticizing, saying how will you call people who are Permanent Secretaries and ask them to take a bow. 22.“In my place, when someone does not have anything good to say about you, they will say ‘look at him’. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike while commending the President for his support for the FCT Administration and the successful completion of the projects being commissioned, also noted that projects such as the first phases of the rehabilitation of the National Assembly and the Federal secretariat complexes, awarded by the last administration, were among the projects also completed but not slated for commissioning while the second phase of rehabilitation of the National Assembly complex has been awarded by the present administration with the support of Mr President. 12. Barr Wike also noted that the FCT Administration, with the support of the President embarked on the rehabilitation of major roads in the districts across the FCT which were hitherto in deplorable conditions, now giving the areas a new look. 13. The Minister said, “It is important to let you know. But we don’t believe that we should be going to inaugurate such projects. But for record purposes, it was as we came on board that the streets are wearing a new look”. 14. He explained that the contract for the extension of the Inner Southern Expressway (ISEX) from the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) to the Southern Parkway (S8/S9) was awarded in 2010 at 17Billion but reviewed to 18Billion in 2023, adding that the contractor was not owed a dime as the project has been fully paid for. 15. Barr. Wike said, “We thank the Almighty God. And the contractor can attest to the fact that we are not owing him a dime as far as this project is concerned. It is fully paid. And it is because of your directive that all ongoing projects, in line with the renewed hope agenda, must be completed and we are happy that the residents of Abuja can see the new look of the FCT”. 16. He assured that the second phase of the project, also awarded by the last administration will be completed, adding that the completion of the project will change the landscape of Abuja. 17. “Mr. President, I can tell you that that project is key to changing Abuja's landscape. I can tell you that when that project is completed, which has not less than ten bridges. I can assure you that by the grace of God we are going to complete that project”, he stressed. 18. The Minister thanked the President for making him and the Minister of State a part of his Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that the President’s support is not taken for granted while also urging the President to be present at the remaining three key projects to be commissioned over the next three days. 19. In her remarks, the Minister of State, FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud while commending the President and members of the National Assembly for their continued support for the FCT Administration, said the extension of the Inner Southern Expressway (ISEX) from the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) to the Southern Parkway (S8/S9) would enhance connectivity, save man hour on the road and improve the quality of life of residents of the FCT. 20. Giving an overview of the project, the Executive Secretary, FCDA, Engr. Shehu Hadi Ahmed said the extension of the Inner Southern Expressway (ISEX) from the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) to the Southern Parkway (S8/S9) is providing rapid east-to-west movement on the southern flank of the city and linking motorists to the Abuja/Keffi road.
